I found out yesterday that I have an interview for a new position within the company this morning. So keep your fingers crossed everyone. The position is in a different part of the company and it would get me off of the phones for the most part and have me working more with paper. I'm excited about the change and the full time status that would go a long with the position. Did I mention that it would put me back down town as well? So the travel time to and from work would literal be cut in half.

Fringe Play Review

Here is a Sound and Fury Review

So it's opening night of the Winnipeg Fringe Festival and we decided to start it off with a show that we had no doubt will be among the Best of the Fest and that would have us laughing in our seats before the show even got started. Sound and Fury continued there winning streak and didn't disappoint.

Since I returned to the Winnipeg Fringe and started attending shows again Sound and Fury has been one of the highlights for me. Sherlock Holmes and the Saline Solution kept the tradition alive. The laughs start before the show even starts with a bit of audience interaction and chatting with the crowd. The new 3rd guy Vinney Cardinale blends with Shelby and Richard seamlessly bringing to the stage some new acrobatics a great new song and someone who is truly hung like a pony.

Here are the last of the photos from the 2008 Winnipeg Folkfest they were all taken on the Sunday of the festival. You may see more from time to time when I get the chance to sort them out futher.

There were various art installations set up through out the folk festival park. The person sleeping in the field, was just one of many that you might come across at the fields of folk festival taking a break and enjoying the sun and sounds.

We had found a nice and shady space in a grove of trees in front of Snowberry Field. This was our view of the stage and while the tree may have blocked our view did nothing to hinder the sound.

Well it is the two days of rest between the end of Folk Fest and the beginning the Fringe Festival. Now by days of rest what I really mean is going to work for regular full shifts, then racing home as quick as I can so I can clean. After all when you go away for a weekend you may have fun but all of the things you have to normally do on a weekend still need to get done they just don't. We've also had to stop at the Fringe office to get some shifts switched around and such. Basically we ended up dropping two shifts on the weekend and then pick up a team leader buddy shift so we can help out and do team leader work. But all in all these two days between the two events our a gift of the Goddess.

Alright so I wanted to post some of my thoughts on Folk Fest weekend. If someone had come to me on tuesday or wednesday before the folk fest and offered me I paid for the tickets I would have taken the money. Not because I was short on cash or anything like that, it just felt like there was so much stress surrounding getting ready for festival. Between tamile struggling and trying to get her shifts the way she wanted them and not being able to in the end. It felt like such a big headache, even that morning we were talking about it and flat out decided that in 2009 we would jut get a pass for the Sunday.

Everything changed for me pretty much the minute we pulled in to the parking lot. It was almost like driving on to the land at the Dr Jessie Sotoux (I have no idea how to spell his last name) Centre where we have been to a couple of retreats. By the end of the first night I was ready for a weekend pass for next year. The music was amazing so many great bands and groups, so many new CD's to buy. I'll try and post a list to them as soon as I have a few minutes to spare and the program book with me.

Over the course of the weekend we had sun, wind, rain, gale force cold winds, and then more sun. So it covered the gambit of the folk fest experience. Its hard to figure the perfect weather for the festival. No rain would be the place I would start, followed with lightly over cast and warm.

Here are a couple of pictures... Wow what a night. Everything to an African sing whoes energy level was so high she was bouncing and singing and moving about. She reminded me of the opera singer from the 5th Element. Followed by the Weakerthan's who I've always enjoyed. I was a little disappointed when the who made walked off at the end of the set without singing One Great City. But then the lead singer came out by himself and belted it out with his guitar. At that point the crowd pretty much rushed the stage. So we became tarp bouncers for the last show which was beyond description. Micheal Franti rocked the place had us bouncing and singing and waving our arms about. The last picture is of him hugging my wife after the show.

National Celebration or Side walk sale

Ok yeah I know I’ve been quiet and hardly writing anything here, and to my readers I say am sorry. It is something I am going to be working on improving over the next couple of weeks. A few things in life have been keeping me busy, mainly learning a new department at work and working on a couple of new stories that have grabbed my attention.

On to the subject at hand National Celebrations, in Canada we have Canada Day on July 1st and in the US they Independence Day. So you can imagine it is something of a big deal around here for a lot of people or at least that was what I thought until this past Canada Day…

The day started off pretty quiet my wife had to work so my daughter and I hung out at the house and got a few things done. We really didn’t have any intention of going to any of the 3 big celebrations happening around town. Tamile my wife got off work decided to swing by and pick us up and that we should head down to the village and check things out and enjoy the celebration. Now for those of you who don’t know the village is a shopping district in Winnipeg that has traditionally held more of a counter culture feel to it. It was for a very long time felt to be a trendy and hip place to hang out.

On Canada day they would shut down the whole street to cars and use the whole area for a big celebration. They would have clowns, shows, music, face painters, a beer garden, more music and a few little stalls of things selling things that we in some way related to Canada Day. That was how it once was now it’s changed. This year it felt like I was walking through a big market or side walk sale. The only way I knew it was a Canada day Celebration and not just a side walk sale, was when the crowd cheered as a trumpet player blared out Oh Canada before his band started playing. Beyond that it felt like it was just a great big sidewalk sale. Nothing beats shilling out crappy products while pretending to do it in the name of our country.

I don't normally take part in Wordless Wednesday's but I've been mean too and today seemed like a good place to start.

My youngest daughter graduates from High School this evening. Kind of a scarey fact in itself, but it gets even worse when I think about everything that she still has to look forward to in life. There are so many choices, so many options, and so many paths left to be explored.

I may not be graduating but the same thing that worries me for her is also true for myself and everyone reading this blog... To all of you I say good luck.

I don't know if I should be getting excited about this or not. Growing up I was a huge fan of the Toys, the Cartoons and everything about it. I just can't help be get this feeling that they are going to horribly rape my childhood for the sake of a few million dollars.

It looks cool and the subtitle of the movie is nice as well. 'Raise of Cobra' overs a good amount of excitment, and hope that it will be something of an orgin story that could lead to other movies. The one saving thing it does have going for it is Transformers did a decent enough job.

An updated life and recommitment to Blog

It’s been an interesting weekend, in a sense it was kind of a restart weekend for a number of different reasons. First we celebrated my wife’s BLANK birthday oh and it’s blank because she would likely shoot me if I posted her age without asking first not because I don’t know how young she is. Much fun was had at the small party and much Rock Band was played.

As presents she received three different cards of Microsoft for the Xbox. All of the points have no been spent getting new songs and the like. Nothing beats getting a set with multiple Metallica tracks I think they are the hardest songs in the whole game. I often wonder how the real band members would do at some of there own songs. I’ll have to remember to search Youtube or something and see if I can find some videos of it.

I mentioned restarting at the beginning of the Blog and am not really sure if that is the best world for it. It does work though it was the first time I had done ritual with a group in far too long and it was a wonderful experience for me. I led the guy’s side of the ritual, and leading up to I found myself thinking back about the people who had done that type of thing in our community before me. It was big shoes to fill but I think I did alright all in all. Am not going to go in to details about the ritual and the like, after all that would take away the mystery and well Wicca is a mystery religion

Saturday evening was a BBQ with friends and family. A number of them were at the ritual in the morning as well. If you ever get the chance to greet the Sun on Solstice morning and then say good by to it with the same group of close friends. Go for it is well worth it.

I’ve been working on a couple of new writing projects, I won’t give away to much in the way of details at this point as I have some amount of hope of getting them published. The first is about the life of the embodiment of a God in modern day earth. The working title is ‘Among Us’. While the second is a horror novel and the details for that one are still being sorted out in my head.

The podcast I’m working on with Tamile is going great we are currently working on our third episode. It is called SMOFCast and focuses sci-fi and fantasy fandom. Stop by and give us a listen. At this point we have had over 70 downloads. #:o) Another podcast is also being worked on but you will have to wait on the details for that one.

Thirteen Things Iron Chief Secret Ingredents

For those of you who haven't seen the show let me explain. Each show
started with the revealing of a secret Ingredent and every dish that is
made has to feature and include that ingredent. Now the secret
ingredent can pretty much be anything but it is almost always some
rare and often strange food item that the average person in their kitchens
wouldn't have a clue what to do with. So here is my suggestions for secret
ingredents for the next season. After all every show needs a bit of a shake
up from time to time.

1.... Kraft Macaroni and Cheese

2.... Mystery Cans
When he pulls the cover off the secret ingredent he reveals a bunch of
tin cans of various shapes and sizes. All of the labels have peeled off and
the rule is that if you open it you have to use it.

3.... Klik / Holiday / Spam
This one would be all about the presentation and the spam sculptures

4.... Whale Blubber
The eskimos eat it.

5.... Left overs from the last three shows
There always seem to buy way more food then they could possible need.

6.... Hobo
We collected, cleaned and marinated five Hobo's for our judges dinning
pleasure.

7.... Road Kill
They collect it and it has to go somewhere

8.... The Rare White Rhino
Only 14 or so left in the world so this meal is a once in a lift time
experience

9.... Carmel
Because it makes so many thing so much better.

10.. Open Flame
Everything you make and serve must be cooked over an open flame.

11.. Ethnic
Everything served must be an ethnic dish

12.. Child
It's like veally good

13.. Vegan
Everything you serve must be vegan
