So mellow, good for doing art. The teacher in the oil painting class I just took made a statement almost every week about the value of listening to classical music to grow new dendrites or something like this, and building right brain - left brain balance. In any case I enjoyed the Andreehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06614762624055343961noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5085767.post-1112618906774483282005-04-04T07:46:00.000-05:002005-04-04T07:52:48.790-05:00To see a world in a grain of sand

You're stuck inside Fahrenheit 451, which book do you want to be?
Our class read 1984 instead, too. I'm glad we read 1984, its been very applicable. But if I were going to be a book, how about William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven and Hell. There's a reason I'm named Blake.

I always thought that last title was Music For Native Americans, which has a different connotation than it does this way, which certainly makes it about the documentary, not the people! Either way it's great, Andreehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06614762624055343961noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5085767.post-1107612085225438622005-02-05T07:57:00.000-06:002005-02-07T16:39:24.916-06:00I've been listening to the ambient lounge collection Chip sent out for my birthday, it's pretty mellow and international so that is good for the destress zone. Not much else to report on the music front, except apparently it's true that Barry Manilow is universally unpopular. That's right, you can always get your breaking music news here!

It's basically show tunes. If this kind of music would rock your world, send me your address and it's yours.
In other news, the car has been settled, but they don't cover cds in the car! wah! But I got a pretty decent payout on the buick so I guess I can't really complain. King & Eric Clapton, Clint Black, and Harry Connick Jr. How pleasant is that? Very easy to listen to. Then I switched to the latest Torcuato Mariano, a Brazilian jazz guitarist. Yes, things are very mellow here. But things are edgier in the Princessmobile where I've been listening to Ani Difranco's new album, Educated Andreehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06614762624055343961noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5085767.post-1097181508743513662004-10-07T15:24:00.000-05:002004-10-07T15:55:19.310-05:00hi - this is not good, twice a year blogging seems to be beside the point. Well, so it goes. It seems that the balance in my cdplayer is tilted slightly to country but in the car I've been listening to more radio - smooth jazz to soothe the savage blake on the evil commute. At the Art House, the current theme is Love, Chocolate and Stillettos. I went with stillettos, which I think are generally evil. This is the most neutral of the pieces I did. Two others, an assemblage and a collage, are in the show right now, so that is cool, my first pieces in a show! The others are much more pointed, so to speak, in their message.
The next show is Death and Taxes. It's been playing a lot of the stranger stuff, the atmospheric and eerie Voice of Eye cd keeps to be getting airplay. And there's some short story reading apparently on a SXSW cd that I just have no patience for. I mean a tune is a tune and a story is a story, and I want to listen to tunes. And Lauren Hill unplugged, which I like though it's not the kickass album her Miseducation album was. And what about 69 Love Songs by the Magnetic Fields? Much fun, very silly, clever and catchy. Johnny Cash's latest cd The Man Comes Around. As someone put it in another review, people can feel his authenticity in his songs. It's there and it's expressed so well.

The one where he covers everyone from Simon and Garfunkel to Trent Reznor as well as some original tunes and old standards. His love, faith and integrity are evident through out. His rendition of Hurt is worth the price of the album. His lyrics are clever, sometimes silly, sometimes pretty pointed, the music and vocals are very gentle. It's easy to listen too. I may be saved from overindulgence because I hear a Ben Harper cd is coming my way next! But I have an excuse. I've moved and that means chaos. Of course, I do still have tunes flowing at home. It's much like the first album, The Lighthouse Keeper, relaxing, layered, dreamy.
