Just a note:

Some people call these "mandalas", indeed, but I read that mandalas (specially from India) include squares inside with the theme for the meditation. I think these are spirograh creations. You might remember these. Click here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirograph We played with them when we were young. They are very nice designs.

Two Surprising Cross Stitch Proyects

I love surprises, even during crafting. These are my last completed proyects. Both turned into something I didn´t expect. And I love that!

The first proyect is from my "finishing" classes from the excellent

"I Love Cross Stitch" Group in Yahoo. The second proyect was totally inspired by the central motif itself.

I think this beautiful motif of AURELLE ( aurelle.over-blog.com ) had to be in a bag like this one ;) Hope you like it.

What to do with a beautiful design?

Two days ago I finished this "quick" project.

I just had to use one of those beautiful designs of

www.stitchinspiration.com!

I had to get the right plan so I could make justice to the design and at the same time do a useful thing.

I decided to do a nice purse.

It´s strange but there are two things I don´t wear: jewelry and purses... and I love to do jewelry and purses :D

I liked this project because I did it very fast, in fact I could have done it faster but I´m on vacations and who wants to miss a good chat or a good breakfast with nice friends?...

Not me! Oh no, madam! :)

The DMC colors I used were: 210, 321, 472, 550, 754, 912, 3346, 3750. And it´s dedicated to all the nice ladies embroiderers in Yahoo Groups. Thanks to you all!

Let´s continue enjoying our "Cross Roads" ;)

Outline Stitch Emboidery

A good reason to stitch? Nieces!

Here is my very first OES. I did it in 24 hours, not because I were a good stitcher -thing that I´m not- but because it was my Niece´s birthday 24 hours later. She is a dolly and this style was the perfect match for her. It´s not too difficult eventhough it requires -as all good things do need- care.

This is the style that most of the time we recognize as "Redwork", "Greenwork" or "Bluework" when done with those colors, or colored when it is so. Pat taught me that, thanks Pat ;) I also learned that there are some differences with Blackwork. First of all the outlining, second the motifs: most of them are kind of scenes and third -I suppose- is that it doesn´t need to be reversible.

In Mexico we also have this tradition but most of it is filled with more embroidery in beautiful colors.

What did I learn with this proyect?

Technicaly, to take good care of stitching straight and to enjoy scenes in embroidery.

What did I learn from this proyect?

I learned several things. I took some notes (the order is cronologic):

My big mistakes:
1. "Ubi". Ubication in the space.
2. "Quanto". How many. Count correctly without forgetting the spaces between each repetition. Otherwise I´ll make the same mistake as shown in the pictures: the whole design is not centered.

(a) It cannot be done in a hurry.
(b) Requires -at least for a complete newbie as me- to treat each part of each figure as a unit.
(c) Cannot do it without good friends helping and encouranging you: Yahoo is a great place for it! My thanks to moderators and members.
(d) About looping, doing it just at the end is ok. But try to do it just passing under each stitch is better.
(e) As Linn -correctly- said, I have to remember that where I started I´ll have to come back at the end and not somewhere else.
(f) Beware with single stitches! Otherwise I´ll forget them again.

The good shots:
1. Trying to get as many reversible figures as possible gave me the chance to get into the special characteristic of the traditional technic.
2. As always, planning and trying to be calm and enjoying it gave me the reason to come back to it everyday.

It´s ready for being used in another nice proyect ;)

>SEASON: Pouring in Xalapa

I was in the middle of stitching and enjoying emails from Yahoo group when suddenly it started pouring. Everything got into a quick dark. Then we had fog and then hail.

When a was a child and started raining that way I always thought that I wanted to be a grown up so I can get out to the rain and get all wet. Now, that I´m old, I just open the windows of all the house, enjoy air and water and try not to get too wet.

Today my garden received God´s blessing and I thanked Him for it.

Afterwards, sun came out again and I continued stitching and emailing with my window infront of me.

When it doesn´t pour, it rains.

This is my first try in Blackwork

The fabric is Aida medium; DMC 815, 3 threads because I would like to see it full; the pattern is from the beautiful site www.blackworkarchives.com

It also shows my first big mistake on it.
Nevertheless, this work is dedicated to my Pa´ now resting in peace.

I love this proyect! Not only because it marks my comingback to cross stitch but for all the things that are meaning together: First, it´s for my friends (I´ll do 6 in total, mine was the test). Second, it has a kitchen motive, flowers and letters -3 of my very favorite motives. And third, they are going to be... small coushins for needles! I love them! (Please see my other labors ;)

I wanted to do something different, so I planned this "Charlestone´s style lamp" (I said) as a weekend proyect for our bedroom. The labor is around a "Quaker Oats" container.

This was for my husband. The flags are the first letter of his complete name:

SMALL PILLOW FOR NEEDLES

I made 15 for the first "Baby Shower" of my sister.

At the middle of the photo you can see the needle.

When the baby was baptized, I made 25 "Angels" presents for our guests. They were small cardboard boxes painted in golden.

The labor was at the top as (another) small pillow for needles. I love to do these. They contained basic sewing things.

I don´t have any, or if I have one, I can´t find it.

I´ll tell my sister to bring hers when she comes to visit us.

It´s a small bag for pen and pencils.

It´s over jeans fabric (light tweed? -says the dictionary)

These are some of our sterling silver pieces (100% handmade). Mexican Amber is our favorite. As you can see we can find it from light yellow up to dark red. It´s a beautiful gift of God to our country.

¡Hola! This is me. This picture was taken on march 29th, 2007 when (I started) to finish an important stage in my life. I presented a philosophy investigation to get the college philosophy degree known in my country as "licenciatura". I´m not as young as seads -normaly- are, but I´m not as old as oaks can get to be. Thanks to Holy Jesus, Holy Mary and my Archdiocesis now I can continue walking with this smile.
