1. Advertise. Post your music on every website you can find. People can't love you until they've heard you, and it usually takes some repeat exposure before they'll get around to listening.

2. Ok you have a great son. Now, make a video. Borrow talent and resources to help you make it look good. If it's good, post it everywhere you can. If not, figure out why it's not and do it again.

3. Get gigs. Take anything, don't be picky. Again, they can't like you if they've never heard you. You know those VH1 interviews where the big names look back fondly on all they had to put up with in the early years? That could be you.

4. Get yourself known to the world. Put together a website. A band without a web presence doesn't seem like a big deal. Update it often. Make sure you post your music and information about your upcoming gigs.

5. Get Connected. Get onto social networking sites. If you're not at least on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and YouMusic you're missing out on millions of potential new fans. And update constantly, including media. If a picture's worth a thousand words, video's worth a million.

6. Announce Your Music. Put together press releases of your gigs and send them everywhere. Most of them won't get published most of the time but when one does, it will be extremely valuable to your success as an indie artist.

7. Get it on CD. Put a CD together. Find a friend who does graphic design and get a professional cover and label on it. Sell copies on your website. You may not sell many but just having it as an option helps to add legitimacy.

8. Take this seriously. Don't show up late for gigs, forget lyricsdon't be sloppy. Don't presume that people can't be put off just because your music's goodthere are millions of bands vying for their attention.

9. Be good to your fans. Enough of them and the labels will come knocking.

10. If you are stuck. Ask for help. Get the band to ask everyone they know to ask everyone they know to help promote you. Give them CDs and get them excited with you. They'll help you find gigs, websites on which to post your music and video, and people that will run your press releases.

We must love nature….

Ever since I was a young boy, I've loved nature. This is why I purposely put out squirrel feeders, bird bathes, and endless birdseed. If you offer it, they will come. Even right this very moment I can see six robins on my large bird house feeder. They are grouped around it for lunch time. And from the size of their stomachs, they definitely get plenty to eat. But I don't stop there. While my humming bird feeder is bare right now, the little ones will certainly show up soon. They do every year. And the squirrels make appearances year-round. I suggest you try a squirrel feeder with an ear of dried corn. You can literally watch them sit in a chair and eat the corn like they're sitting down to dinner. You've got to give it up for Mother Nature. She has created a wondrous variety of creatures for us to enjoy as the seasons change. Currently we're enjoying the springtime. I admire this season in particular because it's when all the birds, butterflies and bunny rabbits appear. I can survey my back yard and spot all sorts of creatures loving their environment. This is partially due to the bird house feeder draped from a tree limb and the carrots my daughter scattered about the lawn. If there's one thing that draws in wildlife, it's food. Because just like us, they all have to eat. You'd show up too if the food was free.

Ancient Aztec Symbols

The Aztec civilization thrived from the 14th century to the 16th century until the Spanish conquest ended their reign. They believed in many gods and myths, using Aztec symbols to represent their beliefs. Animals played a particularly significant part of their culture. The Aztecs were one of the most artistic civilizations and we have learned much about them through their art.
The Aztec's legacy is still felt today and can be seen in everyday products such as T-shirts, hats, bags and other clothing items. Posters, prints and calendars also feature symbols and other household items, such as fridge magnets, decorative plates, mousepads, mugs and playing cards. Aztec symbols have also been used on Mexican and US postage stamps. A special set of Mexican stamps with Aztec designs was published in 1956 to mark the 100 year anniversary of the first postage stamp in the country.
An alphabet based on letters was developed but the early alphabet used pictograms. These symbols resemble Japanese and Chinese characters and they described the world around them. The Aztec symbols can still be often seen in Mexico and the Mexican flag is an example. It shows an eagle on a cactus, holding a snake in its mouth.
Aztec gods were worshipped, using Aztec symbols, such as the Quetzalcoatl, which is a feathered serpent. Other important gods were represented by the Huitzilopochtli (hummingbird) and the Tezcatilipoca (smoking mirror). Other animals, real and legendary, symbolized different qualities and emotions. The mythical Phoenix bird depicted re-birth and the frog represented joy. Butterflies stood for transformation, turtles symbolized earth and the fish was the animal for instinct and determination. The monkey was a symbol of celebration and dance.
The Aztecs devised a calendar and used symbols to denote the days of the month. Animals again featured and included the crocodile, lizard, serpent, deer, rabbit, dog and monkey. The other symbols used were a house, wind, death and water. The sun forms a central part of the calendar, as the sun was very important to the Aztecs.
Today, the influence of this civilization can be seen in tattoos, something that the Aztecs themselves were fond of having. They held art in high esteem and considered tattoos to be a kind of art work, even paying tribute to their god, Uitzilopochtle by having one. I've wanted to run my own business ever since I can remember. As a kid, I saw my dad go to work for 10-12 hours per day just to line someone else's pockets, and I promised myself that I wouldn't end up like that. After doing quite a bit of research, I've decided that the best way to accomplish my goals is to become a real estate developer.
Of course, I can't simply snap my fingers and become a real estate developer just like that. I'll have to take classes, become certified, and get some experience under my belt before I start making real money. The first order of business, therefore, is for me to find accredited courses that will help me learn the ins and outs of the industry. I prefer taking online classes because of the convenience, so I'll start by looking at those.
This must be a popular field of study, because there are lots of different ways for me to learn how to become a real estate developer, including the online class options that I was looking for. Since these classes are offered over the Internet, it doesn't matter where I live or where the school is located. I can learn to become a real estate developer right from my own home, studying whenever I have some spare time (even if it's two o'clock in the morning).
That's precisely what I want, so right now I'm in the process of comparing the different course offerings from different institutions to see which ones will give me the knowledge I need to become a real estate developer (at tuition rates I can actually afford). There are so many choices out there that it's going to take some time for me to go through them thoroughly enough to make a decision. Then once I get this figured out, I'm going to enroll as soon as possible so I'll be that much closer to being able to quit my day job.
I know that becoming a real estate developer won't be easy, nor will it happen overnight. But I think that as long as I'm aware of the potential difficulties ahead, I'll be able to overcome them and make my dreams come true. After all, the harder something is to achieve, the sweeter the reward in the end!

I have reached one of those times in my live where I am reflecting on what impact I have made on the world around me and how many of my personal goals I have achieved. This year I will turn fifty years old, a definite mile marker in my life. I have decided that it is time to take a long look at what I still want to accomplish.

One of the areas I am most proud of is how I have parented my children. My husband and I were blessed with two sons and a daughter. Each of them has had many accomplishments and is successful in the career paths that they have chosen. My daughter and her husband have started their own home based business. This business involves buying real estate and selling it in a quick turn around for a profit. My daughter has a degree in computer programming. She worked very successfully for a major computer company. This job involved a great deal of travel to help set up companies with computer systems and to trouble shoot problems that they had with the systems. She enjoyed the work and travel a great deal; however it was not the type of job that is conducive to raising a family. When she learned that she was pregnant with her first child she decided that she needed to research career options that allowed her to be at home. The computer company she was with had some options that she could do through telecommuting; however she thought she would like to try something new. She is good at work with computers, but she wanted a new challenge and also wanted to stay at home with her child.

She began looking into home based businesses that can create income and would require only part-time work. Out of the many possibilities the business she decided to pursue was buying real estate. She went through training on-line and began her new business by buying a small apartment building in the western part of the untied states. She then listed the property and sold it for a profit within three weeks. She was very excited about her success and immediately bought another property. She has been buying real estate and selling it for a profit for three years. She has been so successful at doing this that her husband has quit his job and is working the business with her. They put in about twenty hours a week and are making a six figure income. She loves the work, but is more thrilled with the fact that she is home full time. She is now about to give birth to their second child. She has been a full time mom to her first born and is excited that her husband will be able to be a full time dad to both of the children. Buying real estate is not the home based business for everyone, but it has been very successful for them. She insists that I should look into getting involved with it also. It may be fun to start a new career as a reach the half century mark of my life.

Antique Oak Curio Cabinet

When my kids were growing up, it was easy to decide what to put into the antique oak curio cabinet. After all, we had very creative children. They were always involved in arts and crafts, from the time they were very little until they graduated high school. We would fill the antique curio cabinet with drawings, sculptures, pinch pots, clay figurines, and all the other beautiful decorations that children make. Once they left the house, however, it seemed a little bit absurd to keep the cabinet filled with their childhood art projects. For a while, it was nice to have it there because it reminded us of how much we missed them, but soon we realized that, as they were moving on with their lives, we had to move on with ours.
It took us a while to decide what to fill that cabinet up with. We had some antique china, but it was only really enough for one shelf. We knew that we needed some more objects, but we were not big collectors of anything. That is how we started to accumulate, one piece at a time, a great bunch of antique curio.

Although I miss my children living with me, it is nice to be able to add new life to that antique cabinet. Life, after all, must continue.

It seems like the headline news stories are getting more sensational all the time. There are times when I see the daily paper and you have to take a second glance to make sure it is not a tabloid. It is harder to do this when newspapers report events with slanted views. My son brought this up to me a while back when he approached the subject of going on a college spring break.
When he came to his father and me and told us that he and a group of friends were checking out locations for spring break I felt instant panic. The newspaper has been filled with spring break stories over the years. My son said that the Cancun spring break offer seemed like the best deal and one of his buddies was checking into it further. This raised my concern even more. A Cancun spring break meant being in a foreign country and too far from home to just hop a plane or bus if something went wrong. I was pointing out all of the reasons I did not feel this was a safe idea when my son brought out the brochure that they had been looking at. Part of the Cancun spring break that they were considering included two days of working in a school setting helping the area children to learn English. My son and his friends are getting their degrees in education.
