Hyacinths are one of my favorite spring flowers. I sat on my front steps this weekend knitting while my 7 year old rode her bike - as the breeze carried the sweet scent my way the smell of spring tickled my nose.

Well to say a lot has happened since my last real post would be an understatment. We've had Thanksgiving - the kids came for T-day this year so that was fun; we've had Christmas - which was quite and small and just A, M and myself; we had New Year's - very quiet at home; and that brings us to now. I believe these are a wild flower known as New England Asters. I see them this time of year on the side of the road quite a lot. I just love their purple color. My mom used to call them weeds. Some weeds are really quite pretty, don't you think?!?!

Every year the Maine Windjammer Association hosts a Wooden Boat raft up in Brookin, Maine - home of the Wooden Boat School. It's such a beautiful and quiet harbor but for this event all the Maine windjammers sail into the harbor and enjoy steamed mussels and a steel drum band. It cracks me up every year because its not something you think of seeing on the Maine coast - a steel drum band. Everyone

There is this great mountain side spring where we go to get water. It's so fresh, crisp and clear. We love it. We have saved all of our gallon jugs for when we driver there. We have figured out that if we go with a minimum of 6 gallon jugs it equals out price wise to buying six gallons of water at the store. Annie went picking blackberries at a friends house and I wanted to grab a photo of them before her family ate them all. I have to say I don't like the way they photograph. Of the seventy of so photos I took of them - most of them made the berries look like mush. This one was one of my favorites though.

We had another broody hen so I let her have 5 eggs. Only one hatched this time and Annie's girls and Anna all wanted to name it. So our newest addition is named Freedom-Elsa. Uh-huh. Yea, we call her Freedom for short, lol. She is such a cutie though.

I keep talking about the garden.....well here is a photo of part of it. This is a straight shot from pumpkins (next to the raspberries and also growing in compost) to the hen house which you can kind of see in the way back behind the sunflowers, tomatillos, and tomatoes.

Just a tomato with a nose that came from the garden. I have a great photo of a carrot that be harvested last year. I 'll have to dig through my archive Cd's and see if I can find it. It really is worth the wait to see.

This a bowl of the huge raspberries that are now ripe and ready for eating. It's amazing how big they are. Just another great reason for composting - your fruits and veggies grow bigger and better!
