Today, while Jihad was standing near it, I said to him, "Jihad, find the book that has your name as part of the title." Kaleya was standing right next to him and please tell me how she was able to point to the RIGHT book within 20 seconds? It blew me and Kalonji away! We know she has some pattern recognition going on, but this Taneyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12467750664253689462noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-499685.post-46068251626228698332008-08-08T18:28:00.002-05:002008-08-08T18:40:17.656-05:00It's been awhile again since my last post, but a lot has been going on! First of all, we have been getting ready for school. Jihad, my stepson, is now living with us, and he starts 4th grade on Monday. We are all excited at the start of the new year and hope to get a lot from it. On August 1st, I officially became a student again! I am now a National Library of Medicine-funded Informatics Taneyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12467750664253689462noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-499685.post-55507672351244638502008-07-19T15:12:00.003-05:002008-07-19T15:15:20.066-05:00Signing says "To Kaleya - You Rock! Taylor Parks" This is what we received in the mail today for Kaleya! Kaleya has been all over Hairspray the past month and she loves Little Inez's part. So, Kalonji found her on MySpace and I requested an autographed picture for Kaleya and she sent it. I have a new appreciation for the history of the institution and all that it symbolizes. We took the kids there so they start to understand the importance and significance of having an education. We got to campus at 10am and were treated to a tour by a student with an intriguing background - W.J. (I have four stepsons in case you didn't know) for a week of family fun. Yesterday we had a very leisurely morning - not really stirring until around 9 or so (well, them -- i myself did not get up until about 11!). I've been using it for about three days now and I love it. Unfortunately, I'm not at work and I forgot to grab some screenshots, but I am finding it very helpful in keeping track of who has sent me what files and email. I highly recommend it. I just downloaded it and will be giving it a trial over the next few days. I'll report my opinion this weekend. He just received an email from his school, Liberty University, that his degree has been conferred. We are so excited! Actually, the degree is quite unexpected as he was told that he had one more course to take before he could graduate, but he certainly had the requisite number of credits to graduate. Yeah!! This degree has been many years in the making for him. A DigiScrap page! I haven't done a scrapbook page in quite a while now. I had a separate blog for it, but decided to let that one go as I don't do this often enough to justify a separate blog. I have plenty other blogs to keep me busy :-) This is Kaleya over Memorial Day Weekend with her BFF. It was very cute and I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would! Kaleya is so funny; she runs around making hand movements like they do in the movie. Kalonji and I have considered putting her in karate for the past year so we are hoping this movie gets her motivated. Okay, well, maybe I haven't done any stitching, but here is a stitching picture :-) All the work i've done this week for the Cross Stitch Magazine Database & Blog has made me really nostalgic for stitching. Happy Memorial Day to everyone out there. I am posting this just a tad bit late, but I had a great weekend and have to share. My weekend started with some house cleaning - I rearranged our bedroom and cleaned up the rest of the house as well. Managed to get the whole apartment except for the kitchen. This year it was in Chicago. It was a very quick trip, I flew in on Saturday and flew out Sunday evening, but though it was short, I was quite busy the whole time. One thing I did get to do was meet more of my family. Sadly, my maternal grandmother's youngest and last brother died on Mother's Day. Here she is with her two roommates (who are cousins to each other) after the ceremonies yesterday. And, here I am with her and our aunt. My father sent me an email a few minutes ago - he's on the front page of his local bike shop's webpage! You can't tell it's him really unless you know him, but he is the guy in the front in the second picture in the second row. Go daddy! He is the cutest cat - Kalonji told me it was the same cat that he'd seen before a few weeks ago. However, this time, the cat did not have his collar on. So, being worried about the cat, we decided to take him in and see if we could find his owner. I've posted about him on several online lost pet sites, and will put up some signs this week. Here are my results. I pretty much agree - I don't have much of an accent. Although, I had a friend tell me once that the only thing that I say with a southern accent is "North Carolina." When you ask me where I'm from, I pronounce it "Care-lina" -- and seem to skip the second syllable completely. Today we took Kaleya to Kalonji's lodge for an Easter egg hunt and it was fun. There were at least 40 kids there I think and everyone seemed to rake up! Kaleya was looking forward to this for the past several days and she couldn't wait to wear her new dress. For more pictures click here and advance forward, there are about 10 pictures.
