Communities for a Restorative Justice recently invited Howard Zehr to lecture at Trinitarian Congregational Church. Zehr is the author of Changing Lenses: A New Focus for Crime and Justice and is widely recognized as a major restorative justice pioneer. The lecture was recorded by CCTV volunteer producer Judy Terry, and is now airing on CCTV's Channel 8 on Sat May 2, at 11:00pm, Mon May 4 at 11:00pm, Tue May 5 at 8:30am, and Fri May 8 at 1:00pm. 19th Century Presidential Elections.
With great gusto (and the gift of being a masterful storyteller), Professor Gary Hylander brings to life the most memorable 19th Century presidential elections. CCTV volunteer producer and man-about-Carlisle Dave Ives videotaped all three lectures, which took place at the Gleason Library. This is the first in a series of three which airs on CCTV channel 8 on Saturday 4/25 at 10:30pm, Monday 4/27 at 11:00am, Tuesday 4/28 at 3:00pm, Wednesday 4/29 an 6:00pm, and Thursday 4/30 at 10:00pm.

CSBC Informational Interviews

Carlisle resident Heidi Harring interviews Carlisle Finance Director Larry Barton about the challenges facing the Spalding Building, which is currently in disrepair. Heidi interviewed six members involved in the plan for a renewed school building. Those six interviews will be airing throughout the next couple of weeks as Carlisle gears up for it's townwide election on May 12th. Modern Dads - John Badalament

Lecturer, documentary filmmaker, author and experienced educator John Badalament discusses the trials and the joys involved in raising children in the 21st Century as well as his book “The Modern Dads Handbook”. The Lecture which took place at CCHS Auditorium, was Taped by CCTV Volunteer producer Regine Ryder. Watch for it on CCTV Channel 10 airing Sunday 4/26 at 9:00pm, Monday 4/27 at 3:00pm, Tuesday 4/28 at 5:00pm, Thursday 4/30 at 8:00pm, and Friday 5/1 at 4:00pm.

Local Crew Produces Holiday Show

Thanks to all who came out on Sunday, December 7th to tape Concord’s Holiday Open House and Tree Lighting. The volunteers, consisting of 8 crew and 4 on-air reporters, brought this cherished family event home to CCTV viewers.

The finished program, featuring footage of the holiday parade interspersed with location reports from downtown businesses, the Emerson Umbrella, the Concord Museum and Orchard house, is now playing on channel 8.

“This was a big production,” said Charley Paige, executive director of CCTV. “The volunteers were invaluable in making it happen.”

The parade itself began shortly after 6:30pm, but crew started the set-up process at 2 pm. Main Street business Coldwell Banker was kind enough to allow CCTV to set up the Anycast station in its 2nd floor offices.

In addition to Coldwell Banker, CCTV would like to thank volunteer videographers and crew members: Lynne Lori Sylvan, Adetola Sylvan, Dan Latham, Dan Palmer, Chuck Palmer, Gari Palmer, Andy Sapp and Rob Mast. CCTV would also like to thank parade hosts Alicia Cleary and Julio Gomez and reporters Meredith Eaton and Victor Shakespeare.

Old Home Day 2008 on CCTV

Newcomer Meredith Eaton burst onto the CCTV scene in May and in July wrapped her first feature, a 45-minute program on Old Home Day, the annual town celebration in Carlisle.

Eaton worked with experienced CCTV volunteer Dave Ives to shoot the piece. From 9 am until 4 pm on June 27 and 28, the team shot Old Home Day staples such as the pet show and the soapbox derby. While Eaton had familiarity with video due to her recent degree in communications from Boston College, producing was a new experience for her.

"I had to plan it out in advance, weeks ahead. I had to make contact and see who was available to do interviews. All the while we were shooting I had to be conscious of how this was all going to fit together," Eaton said.

After shooting, Eaton edited the footage using Final Cut Express on the CCTV editing computers. "As a PC user and completely mac ignorant, I was surprised at how user-friendly I found it," she said. "For the parts that weren't so user-friendly everyone was very helpful and readily available to offer advice."

Old Home Day 2008 is now in rotation on CCTV's channel 8. Eaton's next project, like many recent college graduates, is to look for a job. Creating her own television show at CCTV has opened her eyes to new opportunities.

"Prior to this experience I'd only ever thought about being on camera. But now after being exposed to producing and editing I think there's a whole slew of opportunities I hadn't even considered," Eaton said.

Elliot Lilien Presents Brahms

Elliot Lilien returns to the Carlisle Gleason Public Library for a series about Johannes Brahms (1833-1897). This series is a consideration of Brahms as a composer, with heavy emphasis on his method. For music lovers and those that want to become better listeners. Elliot Lilien Presents Johannes Brahms was produced by CCTV volunteer Dave Ives and will air for the next eight weeks beginning Saturday, March 22nd at 8:00 PM with encore presentations Monday at 6:00 PM, Tuesday at 3:00 PM, Wednesday at 8:00 PM, Thursday at 10:30 PM and Friday at 9:00 AM.

CCPI Tapes Forum

Regine Ryder, of the Concord/Carlisle Parents Initiative (CCPI), leads a forum on January 10th on Teen Driving Safety. Ryder, together with other CCPI members, engaged in video production training at CCTV to turn the forum into a television show. Graphics for the show were done by Priscilla Sturges.

Unger and MacAdam perform traditional folk music from Yiddish vaudeville to Romanian gypsy as well as original pieces. She performs her music with guitarist Woody Woodward. DeCoste performs original songs which combine funk, blues and folk styles. Rocha, a West Newton-based musician, specializes in Brazilian music and has a breadth of musical styles - from waltz to salsa. CCTV producer Terri Ackerman brings her new show Who Cares?! to channel 8 beginning Monday, May 21st at 7:00PM. Who Cares?! profiles people in Concord and Carlisle who are truly making a difference in the community. Terri's first show explores CERT, Concord Emergency Response Team, and how they are ready for any emergency in the area.

Debbie Bier, CERT Coordinator, Fire Chief Ken Willette and host Terri Ackerman discuss some of the tools used to deal with emergency situations in our community.

TOWN MEETINGS

Thanks to the efforts of CCTV's volunteer crew, the Concord Annual Town Meetings aired live on channel 9 on April 23rd, 24th and 25th. The following Monday, the Carlisle crew taped the Carlisle Annual Town Meeting for playback on channel 9. Nearly 17 hours of meeting coverage was produced in the four evenings. The new Anycast system was a great addition to CCTV's production arsenal providing camera switching and graphics for the productions.Volunteer crew and CCTV board members who donated their time to CCTV's coverage included
