Clemson Council Member on Immigration

I came across an article on Clemson Councilwoman Margaret Thompson today and agree with her plans for the future of the Clemson and Pickens county area. She is actively perusing ways to better the community, by action not hot air. "The county has stepped up on immigration while others have kept their heads on the sand," Thompson said. She plans to run for Pickens County Council in 2 years and wants to focus on that. As a Former Pickens County Sheriff's deputy, Thompson said she wants to get involved in the county government. "I worked for the county for 25 years and I've always had a sense of loyalty to them. The county has always treated employees well and you just can't find that anywhere else," Thompson said.Thompson also has been lobbying across the state against hiring of illegal immigrants, and when her term on the city council ends Jan. 1, she plans to tour the state talking to municipalities, counties and chambers of commerce about the issue....

McCain Computer illiterate

Obama has released a new ad attacking John McCain and his ability to use a computer. The attacks by both parties are becoming absurd. "Both campaigns are making a mistake, and that is they are taking whatever their attacks are and going one step too far, they don't need to attack each other in this way." - says Karl Rove. The attack ads are going to continue or get worse until the two candidates meet in a town hall meeting or some other form to debate. "Today is the first day of the rest of the campaign," says David Plouffe Obama's campaign manager. Obama has criticized negative campaigning in the past, but seems to have CHANGED his mind once again.

Obama: "I told this to my team, you know, we are starting to sound like other folks, we are starting to run the same negative stuff. It shows that none of us are immune from this kind of politics. But the problem is that it doesn't help you."

McCain may be computer illiterate but at least he does not change his mind as frequently as Barack Obama. Negative ads have been around for a long time and are used strategically by political campaigns to bring down the opponents poll numbers. If Barack Obama thinks this makes the McCain campaign dishonest why is he now using the same tactics? When you can't bring poll numbers up enough you attack with negative ads to bring their poll numbers down and close the gap. John McCain inability to use computers is just a stupid attack, I am sure he can learn everything he needs to know about computers in a few days. He is not running to be president of IBM.

Poitical Campaigns Online Battle McCain vs Obama

Political campaigns have increasingly been relying on the internet to advertise in an attempt to win votes. The online battle between John McCain and Barack Obama is unique because of the two candidates age difference. John McCain has publicly stated he doesn't use email, and stated he is not very computer literate. McCain also said he is learning how to use the internet and will have it down soon, so he is trying to catch up with technology. McCain made this statement about blogs "I understand that something appears on one blog, can ricochet all around and get into the evening news, the front page of The New York Times. So, I do pay attention to the blogs. And I am not in any way unappreciative of the impact that they have on entire campaigns and world opinion.
Barack Obama is much more tech savvy then the older John McCain. Barack Obama is often seen fiddling with his blackberry phone. He used text messaging to send out his choice for Vice President, which I never received, to people who signed up for it. Obama has the edge over John McCain when it comes to using technology, but it seems the people working for McCain are keeping him in the online race. I use a program called linkdiagnosis to examine my link count it may not be 100% accurate, but it gives you general idea of how your site compares to others. I ran a report on both the McCain and Obama campaigns website's out of curiosity to compare the links. As of yesterday JohnMcCain.com had 2256 total backlinks and BarackObama.com had 3191 total backlinks. This is not great indicator of which candidate is wining the online campaign battle, but Obama has almost a 1000 more backlinks then John McCain. McCain may be losing the online campaign, but he is now in the lead in the polls. It will be interesting to see how the internet influences future campaigns and the remainder of the 2008 presidental campaign.

Obama and Bowden Change you can't believe in. I found this picture on tigernet, a site dedicated to Clemson Sports. I am a huge Clemson fan and was in Atlanta this weekend for Alabama's butt kicking of Clemson and have seen enough. I just wanted to share this picture. "We’re going out full pads, and there’ll be a lot of contact today," Bowden said during his weekly media briefing. "If somebody gets hurt, they get hurt. We’ve got to get better.

At least he seems to be showing a little more backbone, if T.B would have a do whatever it takes attitude more often I would not have a complaint about him. I hope he does not do like he did against the Citadel and try to keep the score down against SC state this weekend. We need to play as hard as we can until the end of the fourth quarter. The team and fans need confidence!

McCain picks Sarah Palin for VP. Some people may be upset by this decision, but most will be very happy with the choice when they get to know Governor Palin. I started paying attention to her after receiving a comment on this blog from Tales of a Temple Night Owl. She is the Governor of Alaska, a state we need to be tapping to help ease gas prices. Palin is a big plus for McCain's campaign!

ATV and OHV Trails in South Carolina

A newly proposed OHV trail system in South Carolina is receiving funding. SandHills State Forest, a 46,000 acre tract in Chesterfield and Darlington Counties near Patrick, is where the new ATV area will or may be. The trail project is rumored to have received around $600,000 from a federal grant. An environmental assessment study by the US Fish and Wildlife Service is the first step. If they sign off on the study, work should begin soon on the ATV trails. If you are interested in getting involved with the OHV riding trails project or want to let SCPRT know you support it, I have included some contact information below.

SCPRT Recommends 13 Trail Projects for Federal Grants

Thirteen projects totaling $1,477,302 designed to help build or improve trails across South Carolina have been recommended for federal grants by the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism (SCPRT). The money would come from the Recreational Trails Program (RTP), a program of the Federal Highway Administration that helps pay for the construction of new trails, improvement of existing trails, the development and improvement of trailhead or trailside facilities, and the acquisition of corridors for public recreation. Grants are provided on an 80-20 reimbursable match. Projects were recommended for Abbeville, Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Chesterfield, Darlington, Dillon, Greenville, Laurens, Richland and York counties. All are subject to final approval from the Federal Highway Administration. Projects were rated on how best they met criteria, goals and objectives of the South Carolina.

State Trails Plan and South Carolina Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan, and were evaluated in terms of their overall quality, need, public support, planning process, and the ability to maintain and operate the project after completion. Russia flirting with Cold War 2

Russia's invasion of Georgia could re-write America's foreign policy. Some Political Scientists will say Russia is flirting with setting off another Cold War, while others think a repeat of the first Cold War would be more like WW3. Russian Prime Minister and former President Vladimir Putin even added his two cents about the Russian-Georgia conflict being compared to the Cold War. Putin's role as prime minister is seen by some including myself as a loop hole for a dictator to retain control of the so called Semi-Presidential Republic system of Government.

"The Cold War has long ended but the mentality of the Cold War has stayed firmly in the minds of several U.S. diplomats. It is a real shame," Vladimir Putin.

Russia's attack on the country of Georgia began on August 8, 2008, when Georgian troops where sent to South Ossetia to reclaim the region. South Ossetia is a pro-Russian area which separated from Georgia in the 1990s and became a separate state, without international recognition. If Russia had stopped at "liberating" South Ossetia, this conflict would be over and the world powers would not be as concerned with Russia's actions. What is now being called the 2008 South Ossetia War will have one of two possible outcomes in my opinion. The first being Russia pulls out of Georgia territory within the next couple days and the countries agree over the Ossetia region. Because of Russia's overwhelming bashing of Georgia the country will face negative political backlash, but it will get little more then a slap on the wrist in the end. The second being Russia continues its war path through Georgia and gravely hurts its relations with the U.S and its allies. This second outcome could be the beginnings of the worst World War in the history of mankind or it may destroy all nuclear non-proliferation progress made in the last 20 years.

Georgia has 2,000 troops in Iraq allied with America. The U.S gave the Georgia troops air transport home to defend the country from Russia. The country is considered a close ally to the United States of America. Georgia's ambassador to Washington said he hopes Putin "will listen to what President Bush had to say." "The time is very critical for my country," Vasil Sikharulidze said. "Georgia faces extinction under this brutal Russian invasion." Georgia also holds a key oil pipeline which supplies much of Europe and cuts off Russia as a supplier to the region. This has been brought up as a possible motive for the Russian invasion.What does America do in this situation? Georgia was in Iraq helping America and generally is more in line with Americas values of Democracy then Russia. On the other hand military action against Russia is close to incomprehensible, if not impossible while fighting two other wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. I personally don't like letting Georgia being taken over by Russia, because of the message it sends to other past Soviet Union republics who seceded and Russian leaders.

John Edwards, John Edwards, .... on every news channel every fifteen minutes. Really who cares about this? John Edwards had an affair, how does this make him more news worthy then current foreign affairs? The politician from Seneca South Carolina, 10 minutes from my house, was never someone I looked up to nor was I surprised to hear he had an affair. Very few politicians today would surprise me to hear similar news. I respect his wife for how she has handled the situation, but I don't think the media hounding the subject day in and day out is helping her to deal with the situation. John Edwards is paying for his mistake, but its a personal issue between him and his wife. He has apologized and admitted it so for my sake drop the John Edwards gossip. If there where no other important issues in the world today then I maybe could understand all the hype around this "news."

In case I am the only one who noticed between the John Edwards affair segments on the news, Russia invaded Georgia a few days ago and is continuing what seems to be a takeover bid of the country.

John McCain ad comparing Barack Obama to Paris Hilton and Brittney Spears. This was a good move by McCain. He has received attention from his original ad and from Paris's rebuttal ad. The Hilton's are McCain supporters and have contributed to his campaign, in more ways then one now.

Oil and Gas prices could get cheaper if McCain picks Sarah Palin as his Vice President. McCain's choice of a VP has become a media frenzy over the past week with everyone guessing as to who it will be. Thanks to a comment by Night Ow l I have been following Sarah Palin and I am very impressed. If she was currently running for president, she would have my vote over both McCain and Obama. Sarah Palin is the Governor of Alaska. Who would be better to have in a time of soring oil prices? Shes for drilling for oil in ANWR along with most of the Alaskan population, who have the highest gas prices in the nation. Palin seems more conservative then McCain, which will help strengthen support from his base. I want someone who will do more and talk less, I think Sarah Palin will. Palin may be a long shot, but if she is involved in the 2008 Presidential election, we will have lower oil costs and maybe a working government. Oil and Gas prices will continue to climb in the future, but how fast they do will depend on the 2008 election. The economy will be crushed if we see gas prices of $5, $7, and eventually $10 dollars a gallon during the next presidents time. If you vote for Obama or are against drilling to help sustain our way of life (until another form of energy is ready to take the place of gas) I hope you own a bicycle or are filthy rich. I have converted a power point about drilling in ANWAR to a video, and posted it below. It may play too fast, but you can pause it. It puts the liberal bullshit to bed.

There have been rumors circulating for some time about presidential candidate John McCain's VP choice. Due to recent public outings with Rudy Giuliani and the recent media hype over Barack Obama visiting Iraq, it might be perfect timing for McCain to reveal his running mate as vice president. Mark Salter, a senior aide to the McCain campaign, says "I’m not denying, I’m not confirming." He did say staffers have been instructed not to talk about the veepstakes and he would be keeping quiet. “I got a stern talking to last time I went down that road.” McCain and Giuliani attended a baseball game at Yankee stadium together, this started the McCain-Giuliani speculation again. When asked about the possibility of being on the ticket with with McCain, Giuliani responded "You hear all kinds of stuff, but I'm not thinking about anything but helping to get him elected," Giuliani said. "Beyond the fact that he's the candidate of my party, he's a very good friend," according to DEVLIN BARRETT of the A.P.

I was a Giuliani supporter before he dropped out of the Republican race. I still think he would have been better choice for President, but I do not think he is a good choice for McCain. McCain needs a more conservative running mate to gain solid support from the far right. I also believe McCain will do well to pick a younger vice president, at least in appearance, to help ease concerns over his age. In the best interest of keeping Obama from "raining destruction" on Americas economy, foreign policy, and whatever else he can ("change") it is best to let Rudy Giuliani sit this one out. Some other candidates for the VP position are Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, Mitt Romney, and Condoleezza Rice. These five choices are the vice presidential candidates I believe to be the most likely choices, including Rudy G. You can see more possible candidates and polling data for the question "Who should John McCain pick as running mate be," HERE as well as Democratic running mate projections. We will know who McCain picks to run as Vice President on his ticket soon, it will be interesting to see when Barack Obama follows suit and picks Hillary Clinton.

South Carolina Lowers US Flag, Raises SC, Confederate Banner

Armed Robbery in Central South Carolina

Early Monday morning July 7th 2008 around 12:30 am two armed men entered an apartment in Central, South Carolina and robbed two young women who lived there. This happened in the Summit apartment complex in Central SC, near Clemson. The description of the two males was described to me as follows: one was around 5'9" tall around 140 pounds small build and was holding a bandanna over his face. The other was described to me as around 6'1" tall average build , wearing a red hat with white lettering, and had a very defined jaw line. Both of the robbers were black. The gunman was right handed, he cocked the slide on the gun with his left hand. The gun was described as like a glock. It had a greenish color slide. They each had on very baggy clothing. No vehicle was seen leaving after the victims got up off the floor and looked. They either were on foot or lived in the area. They must have known the girls or someone who does, because they knew where to look for money, and I believe called one of the girls by name. The central police were contacted and I hope are at least running fingerprints.

This picture of the guns may not be correct it is just similar to what I think the gun may look like after hearing the description.
The robbers took a paycheck, a money order and I think some cash and things of value. I know both of the victims and they work hard to earn their money working 11hrs some days and on the weekends. This is a letter written to an representative about illegal aliens getting a tax break and then becoming legal. Its a funny letter and well written. It may be old, but it was the first I have seen of it. The following is a small portion of the letter written to this senator:

"As a native Iowan and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance. I have contacted the Department of Homeland Security in an effort to determine the process for becoming an illegal alien and they referred me to you.

My primary reason for wishing to change my status from U.S. Citizen to illegal alien stems from the bill which was recently passed by the Senate and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill's provisions is accurate, as an illegal alien who has been in the United States for five years, all I need to do to become a citizen is to pay a $2,000 fine and income taxes for three of the last five years. I know a good deal when I see one and I am anxious to get the process started before everyone figures it out."

Alaska Oil Rush and High Gas Prices

REP. Lynn Westmoreland was speaking on C-SPAN this afternoon about his petition which I have listed below and gas prices. I am glad someone is doing something, but to congress: The saying talking yourself to death may take on new meaning because of the slow action by the peoples representatives. We need to open up off-shore drilling, A.N.W.R (Arctic National Wildlife Refuge), my back yard, the moon, for drilling fast because we need to be focusing on implementing a lasting alternative fuel, such as hydrogen and nuclear. Today you have been focusing on gun rights, well I am glad I get to keep mine because I may need it in the World War for Oil which I feel is inevitable if we don't come up with something to replace oil within the next 25 years. Gas prices are hurting the American people financially in every aspect of daily life, not just driving. High gas prices will continue to crush the economy until something is done.

Take a look at REP. Westmoreland's web page linked below and if your representative signed no find out why and let them know how you feel. If they haven't signed contact them and ask them to. I am from SC and will inquire about about Rep. Bob Inglis (R-S.C.) no answer to this petition and post any findings.

Barrack Obama & Gore endorsement

"Take it from me and from the election of 2000, you know that elections matter," says Al Gore preceding his endorsement of Barrack Obama. The speech took place in Michigan where many auto workers who are not happy with Gore live. Al Gore is the the king of bullshit. He claimed to invent the internet, he has made outrageous claims about global warming, and does not practice what he preaches! He was such a big figure in the global warming issue, yet his carbon footprint is larger then 100 or more average citizens combined. He claims to buy carbon offsets to make up for such a large environmental impact, but did you know he owns a carbon offset company. So he buys them from himself? Yea, let that sink in. Al Gore blames the dog and cat food contamination on the Bush campaign saying, "After the last eight years even our dogs and cats know that election matters." What had Al Gore done prior to this tragic mishap to prevent it? I believe the countries and George Bush's' main interest has been air planes hitting buildings, people crossing the boarders unhindered, and terrorist bombing innocent people all over the world. This was just a stupid remark by Gore! The timing and location of Al Gore endorsement of Obama does not seem to be in the best interest of Barrack's campaign. I would not vote for my best friend if he stood on a stage with Al Gore and publicly excepted his endorsement.

While Al Gore is trying to persuade his followers, with more crap from his mouth, to vote for Obama; Barrack Obama is saying he wants to tax the big oil companies more on wind tax revenue and make all illegal aliens legal citizens.

First taxing the oil companies will only transfer to higher costs for the consumer, which is you and me. "Even Putin is lower fuel taxes"-Headline news. The government gets rich and the people poor, by taking a few more dollars from the oil giants. This is not the answer you id**t! Also why tax wind power it is better then oil for the environment, they ought to get a tax break if anything. If the government wants to put up wind turbines and give out free energy I am all for it and will go along with taxing big companies for not using more renewable sources to fund it.

The second topic illegal immigration , are we legalizing another form of slavery? If you have seen how many of these illegals live? I have seen as many as 10 people in a shabby falling apart single wide mobile home on the property where the illegal aliens are employed. These companies buy run down housing and hide it on their property, many times behind locked gates, and house "workers" there. Illegals are getting paid below minimum wage in many cases and are not doing themselves or this country any good. We need to secure our boarders and deport known illegals not give them underpaying jobs and a slum to live in.

No Fight Left in Clinton

The AP is reporting Barack Obama has clinched the nomination for the Democratic party nomination. Whether he or Clinton won the party's nomination the Democratic nomination would have been historic. Obama won and thus we have the first black candidate of a major political party. I think it is good for this country and about time for an African American candidate. I do not like the specific candidate, I am more of a Colin Powell type person, but its a good first step.

Sources with the Hillary Clinton campaign stated early, Senator Clinton will acknowledge Barack Obama has the delegates to become the nominee. However, soon after this report surfaced her campaign issued this statement, "Senator Clinton will not concede the nomination this evening." "The 46-year-old first term senator will face Sen. John McCain of Arizona in the fall campaign to become the 44th president." - AP

Tonight will be interesting, what do you think Clinton will do? I think she might stay in it and fight a little longer if at all possible. Clinton put up a fight and fought well, but it was too little too late. The race between McCain and Obama will be interesting, as it starts to heat up in the coming months. I think the age difference will be one of the main factors played in future campaigning between the two. I hope the race card is left un-played, because it diminishes what a Presidential candidate should be.

The Democratic convention will be interesting because the two states with primaries left don't have enough delegates to give Barack Obama the 47 needed to seize the nomination outright. Obama will win the Democratic nomination, his former preacher will "God Damn America" and John McCain will be the next President. That is the Law of Politics bet at this point in the election. Things are going to get ugly in the coming months between Obama and McCain, and there is no telling what other ghosts may come back to haunt them.

Looking at how the candidates have voted in the past is the best way to judge how they will vote in the future, in my personal opinion. On the Issues is a good source of information for individual candidate facts. On the issues has information about Foreign Policy, Economy, Abortion, Education, Energy and Oil, and more pertaining to the presidential candidates. The site seems to be a little slow on updating new issues, but overall has a vast amount of political information on many different candidates. I did not include Hillary's stats because in my opinion she is already out of the race. Hillary Clinton claims to have the popular vote lead after Puerto Rico, but as we found out in recent years, delegates are all that really matter.

Guerrilla Warfare Politics

Politics in todays America is Guerrilla Warfare without the death toll. Words are twisted to take on meanings intended to discredit or otherwise hurt the person who spoke them. Everyone is so busy chasing personal gains and profits I wonder if the truth ever surfaces in todays politics. I just watched the HBO movie entitled "ReCount," it trys to shed some light on behind scene politics. While it does do this, the movie makers are as guilty as anyone else for picking sides and playing the political game. I understand theirs going to be bickering and low-blows in any Democratic election, but turning citizens against each other as a way to win an election is absurd. I want a candidate that stands for what he believes not what the polls tell him to say he believes. Politics and the do anything to get elected strategy is good in small amounts, but it could hurt this country if it continues without the voters taking notice. Politico wrote and interesting post on a comment made by Hillary and how it is reported in the news / web. The article shows further proof of how personal gain is more important then who is running the country.

"The McCain Age"

John McCain's appearance on Saturday Night Live, turned into an age joke. McCain is 71 years old, which has been a reoccurring topic in the opposing media for some time. McCain's is trying to use the age factor as tool to weaken his support. When McCain was asked "what should we be looking for in our next president?" He responded. "Certainly, someone who is very, very, very, old." McCain's ability to joke about his age and in such a witty, youthful way made the age issue vanish, at least to me. With age comes wisdom; if Alzheimer's doesn't come first.

I personally don't think McCain's age will be a factor in his ability to lead the United States. I think the ability to laugh and crack jokes on yourself is a trait each candidate should posses. Quotes from his appearance on SNL:

"I have the courage, the wisdom, the experience and, most importantly, the oldness necessary," McCain said. "The oldness it takes to protect America, to honor her, love her and tell her about what cute things the cat did."

"Controlling government spending isn't just about Republicans or Democrats," he said. "It's about being able to look your children in the eye. Or in my case, my children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren, the youngest of
whom are nearing retirement."

Later, during the program's "Weekend Update" segment, McCain urged Democrats not to rush to choose between Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama.

Who do you think McCain V.P choice will be? Huckabee wants the job, but I don't think he will get it.
