For many years people knew that liquid bottles are heated up when they are exposed to sun radiation. Greenhouse agriculture is known for centuries. As of the 20th century, Solar Hot Water Heaters based on the greenhouse effect were developed, and in countries like Spain or Israel almost every dwelling building is equipped with a Sun powered Water Heater System.

Water Heating is cheaper than Solar Power Generation

Residential Solar Power generation is based on the photovoltaic effect. Although the effect was known for over 200 years and was explained in the 1920s by Albert Einstein, commercial exploitation started seriously only in the 90s of this century. Solar Power generation is still an expensive technology because it is not as matured as the conversion of sun radiation to heat using the greenhouse effect. It is expected that within the next 5 to 10 years residential photovoltaic power generation panels will be sold at more affordable prices. Solar Water Heating systems are sold at very affordable prices right now, even the most expensive evacuated tubes collector type that is recommended for use in the colder less sunny regions carries a very affordable price tag. In most countries, the payback time on sun powered water heaters is 3 to 5 years, even for the most expensive systems

The Benefits

A typical household spend about 20% of the home energy bills on heating water whether the water heater is operating on electricity, gas or other fossil fuel. A sun powered water heater can eliminate 80% of this expense for the 15 to 20 years life span of the solar heater.
The household once equipped with the sun powered heater contributes to the environment by the evident reduction in CO2 and pollutants emissions.

North America

I share my time between Israel and Southern California. In Israel I can see the solar collectors on almost every roof. When I come to sunny California I am surprised to see very few homes with installed solar water heaters. To me, it is like sitting on a gold mine and not exploiting it. I checked into the US statistics, and found that only 3% of the households have solar water heaters. Widespread installations of sun radiation powered water heaters can cut the nation energy consumption by 2 to 3%. Just imagine how many new power plants can be deferred and how many barrels of crude oil can be saved.

Jacob Mintz
http://www.solar-energy-for-home.com/solar-water-heating.html
http://www.solar-energy-for-home.com/solar_hot_water_heaters.html

Residential Solar Project Manager (cincinnati )

Date: 2009-12-06, 9:38AM EST
Reply to: job-kfqtu-1497311156@craigslist.org

No Phone Calls, Please.

RESIDENTIAL PROJECT MANAGER

Job Description:

This rewarding opportunity is a fast paced, and a fulfilling experience that deals with high profile and professional architects, builders and successful clients on a daily basis. Over 32 projects will receive the stimulus funding in order to produce a more efficient and smarter "smart grid." Additional funding from the private sector will bring the total to over $1.6 Billion dollars!

Wind energy will be getting a boost with a new testing facility in South Carolina. Next generation Wind Turbines will be tested for durability and use on a utility scale.

950 companies submitted applications for these grants with 125 small technology companies being awarded up to $150,000 each.

With all the large and small scale projects being started and continued through these grants, more good news is on the way for people who want to work in these fields. The plane, "Solar Impulse" did a short taxi with the team monitoring each break and acceleration. This was the first taxi run for the plane at 5 knots with the team monitoring how the plane handles ground maneuvers carefully watching out for the safety of the landing gear.

The team says the plane's November 20th '09 test met their expectations and will undergo a more rigorous test by increasing it's speed and letting it do "flea hops" to monitor the plane's reaction to the small pressure of landing from a small height.

The plane was conceived in 2003 by Piccard and partner Andre Borshberg, the Solar Impulse is just now starting to take it's baby steps to what hopefully will be it's first successful flight.

Jobs In Solar: Product Design Engineer - Renewable Energy- Thermodynamics (South Carolina )

Date: 2009-11-19, 11:50AM EST
Reply to: job-9wq3n-1473103351@craigslist.org

We are looking for 5 Product Design Engineer ! !
And 1 Supervisor !

These Engineers Must have certain backgrounds to be considered.

- MUST have a BSME and we would prefer a MSME
- MUST have experience in Thermodynamics & Heat Transfer
- MUST have a solid work history. We started our company seven months ago and have experienced tremendous growth with over $200,000 in sales, doing only trade shows. We are a team of only 7 people covering the entire continental US. What this position would require is for you to have an entrepreneurial spirit and a go-getter attitude. You would need to get sufficient inventory of solar flash lights (about $1,200) to run a show and would net out the difference between wholesale pricing and retail pricing. Wholesale pricing is about 60% of retail pricing. On average, after discounting the cost of the booth at a show, we make between $400 and $2,000 net, in cash, per show, with an average of $1,000. If you would like to get more information about this opportunity, feel free to email me your resume. We will be running the Go Green Expo this weekend. Please visit gogreenexpo dot com for the hours and location of the event. If you are interested in this opportunity, I will get you a free pass for the show and you will be able to see what this job is all about, in real time. Be prepared to see a crowd around our booth because of the quality of our solar flash lights. We patent, manufacture and assemble these lights right here in the US. We have many beautifully designed buildings, vehicles, phones, even clothes that are solar powered. All the elegantly designed and built solar powered technologies in use today and being developed for tomorrow are exciting to consider.

But, what about the practical and down to earth applications and businesses that need help from the sun's rays? What about the daily care of dairy cows, chickens and other earthy chores that have to get done on a typical farm. How would solar power possibly work in a farm setting?

The University of Delaware has their own dairy farm and came up with a master plan five years ago to integrate solar power into their farm. As time went by and funding became available they were able to acquire solar panels which they use to power the farm's feed storage and storm water treatment facilities and yes, a manure recycling facility!

Their latest project was the installation of 44 panels on the roof of the manure recycling facility. They're also utilizing green energy for a wetland project, stream restoration and a new milking parlor.

Tom Sims, deputy dean of agriculture, said this way of running a successful farm is "doable and practical."

Here we have a down to earth use of solar powered technology that directly affects the consumer. The use of solar energy is no longer considered an odd far left hippy-dippy impractical ridiculous pursuit as it once was. The cow's milk, goat's milk, eggs, etc you eat on a regular basis will be produced by farms using clean-green energy. It is easy being green [on Halloween].
And with this list of ten steps, we make it even easier.

1. Plan ahead to avoid last-minute shopping which often limits your choices.
2. When it comes to costumes and décor—reuse, borrow, trade, purchase used or do-it-yourself.
3. Treat bags can be anything! For extra fun, match the bag to the costume using something you
already own. Here are some ideas: purses, flower pots (cover the hole), cloth sacks, backpacks,
lunchboxes.
4. Choose healthier treats. Take baby steps with organic candy and honey sticks, two child-favored
choices. (Honey is not for children under two years of two).
5. Choose fun treasures instead of conventional sweets. Think of the treasures your child collects
in her pockets—pretty rocks, feathers, etc.
6. If you’re giving a party, avoid disposables including napkins, plates, cups, tablecloths and other
décor.
7. Walk from house to house instead of driving.
8. Naturally solar power is mentioned but in relation to using space-based technology that beams the power down to a receiver.

The other 4 technologies are:

Advanced Vehicle Batteries such as Lithium-Air batteries that pull oxygen from the air to get a charge. The article admits however, that r & d that leads to commercialization could be at least 10 yrs away.

Utility Storage. In this case lithium-ion battery energy would be the method scientists would focus on for energy grid storage. Lithium-ion batteries could be placed close to grid customers in an attempt to more efficiently capture and deliver renewable energy.

Carbon Capture and Storage. Two different methods are being studied for dealing with CO2 produced by coal plants. One technology focuses on capturing the CO2 that's constantly being generated and other scientists are working on cutting emissions by 90% while cutting costs.

BioFuels. In this case the star is Algae. Algae grows fast and can generate 5000 gallons a year per acre of biofuel compared to 350 gallons produced by corn-ethanol. But this technology is still so green (pardon the expression) that it will be yrs before they figure out all the drawbacks to maintaining and producing this type of biofuel. Since algae based biofuel can be added to already existing distribution systems it could produce enough to cover the vehicle fuel needs of the entire country. Again, this technology is years away also.

All these game-changing energy producing and controlling technologies will be in development for years but their success will be worth the wait!

Check out the 5 interesting technologies at The Wall Street Journal Online.

Jobs In Solar: Solar Sales Representative - Champions Only (Phoenix)

Date: 2009-10-18, 8:36AM MST
Reply to: job-wybgu-1426691996@craigslist.org

Seeking Solar Sales Representative for in home sales.
