Orbit Commission Progress photos

Here are some pictures of a piece I have been commissioned to do. It is an extension of the Orbit Series. This series of work was created using shoelaces. The size is about 3'x4'. I plan on making two pieces so the client can choose which one she would prefer. I will post pictures of the second piece...soon!

Stance...purchase award!

I am happy to announce that Stance now has a new home. It was recipient of a purchase award during the notBIG show at Logsdon1909 in Chicago, Illinois. Happy to know this piece will stay in the Windy City, one of my favorite places to be. Thanks to Marco Logsdon the director of the gallery and the patron who provided the award. What a nice way to start 2010!

Vacations Gone Wrong

Here is a series of plates I have done focusing on the events that can ruin a vacation. I used the souvenir plate context that we normally associate with the cool, neat, touristy stuff we like to remember from our vacation and accented the tragic events that can make a vacation less than perfect. Bead Making Class at the Garbage Garage

Here are some photos of the Recycled paper bead class at the Garbage Garage. It was a standing room only crowd of enthusiastic recyclers. They were a joy to teach and hang out with. The next workshop will be on March 6th. We will be making Garden Flags from recycled fabric.

Boulder Recycled Show

This piece, "Admit One" will be in a new show at The Boulder Library Canyon Gallery. The show, called "Resurrections ECO-logy & ECO-nomy -- a functional trash show" is being curated by Jennifer Heath. This show will be up from May 1 to June 30, 2010.

Lyric Cinema Cafe

My painting has been chosen to grace the tables at the Lyric Cinema Cafe in Fort Collins, Colorado. I will be decorating a table with a painting similar to this one. I will post more pictures as the table progresses.

This show invited all of the artists that have exhibited at Harmony Hall in the past 20 years to submit a piece for this great exhibit. Reporter Herald Article

The Loveland Reporter Herald had a story about economical, recycled gift giving this holiday season. They mentioned my Recycled Bead necklace workshop that will be held December 12, 10:00-12:00 at the Garbage Garage, an education center at the county landfill, 5887 S. Taft Hill Road. The class is free, but space is limited, so registration is required.

This painting was made for the parents of a friend of my daughter. He was only 9 years old when he passed away earlier this month. My favorite memory of him is when he was in preschool, he was swinging with my daughter and his prosthetic leg flew off because he was swinging so intently. He just laughed, hopped over, put it back on and continued swinging. He was such a wonderful spirit, despite the challenges he faced. He will be missed.

During my Master's program in at Maryland Institute College of Art, I was also an Americorps member. As part of the program, Students are placed in various Community Organizations ( I was at the JCC of Baltimore) and serve those organizations through Americorps while taking classes pertaining to Community Arts. Anyway, as part of Americorps, once your year of service is done, you receive and Educational stipend that you can use to take classes at any accredited University. I am finally cashing those bad boys in and taking a painting class at Front Range Community College. During my time at MICA and NCSU College of Design, I never got a chance to take a painting class. I was always wait listed and never got around to it. Anyway, I am loving the process of painting. It is so different from weaving and sculpture, so immediate. I feel a bit like I am cheating on my chosen art form of Fiber, but reading Joanne Mattera's Artblog has made me realize that perhaps I have been cornering myself by referring to myself as a Fiber-artist. Defining yourself as an" Artist" only frees your mind to any possibility and avenue. It is an interesting journey. Here is a photo of a painting I did for class, a Self-Portrait. This is so cool. Garth Johnson of Extreme Craft fame has included my piece, "Twist Off" on the cover of his new book 1000 Ideas for Creative Reuse This book looks really great with an emphasis on common items used in way uncommon ways! I am ordering my copy right now.

New work from the studio.....This piece was created using found beads. Each piece measures about 20"x40" and was woven using cotton fabric and cotton warp string. This work is for sale.

SUPER FLY

This piece, titled "Super Fly" will be included in Fort Collins Museum of Contemporary Art's "Masks at MOCA" show. It is created using zippers to decorate a bisque fired mask provided by FCMOCA. This show helps raise funds for FCMOCA's operating budget and out reach. The show will be April 2 -May 7th 2010. The show will feature a live and silent Auction. The live Auction/Gala will be held on May 1st, 2010.

Open Studio This Friday

This Friday I will be hanging out in my studio from 6-9 during Old Town Fort Collins' First Friday Art Walk. I will have new 100% recycled plastic bag bags for your enjoyment as well as a few new works I have created since the last artwalk. Come on by Fort Collins Museum of Contemporary Art. I am on the Second floor, next to the drinking fountain!
