Six Classes You Should Take Before or During College

Keyboarding - I took this course freshman year of high school, and I feel it was probably the best course I've taken. It allowed me to write faster than ever before on the computer, and not punch the keys with two fingers.

Calligraphy - I have terrible chicken scratch when it comes to writing. This is a course I wish I would have taken so my friends could actually read my notes I took in class.

Introduction to Photography - Even if you are not into photography that much, I'm sure you have a small point and shoot camera you bring around to parties. Why not learn the technical aspects of your equipment and be able to take better shots of your friends funneling beers.

A Tech Class of Somekind - Learning how to drill into a wall or cut a 2x4 should be basic knowledge. How else are you going to install that snowboard shelf onto your dorm room wall?

Intro to Computing - Why not learn how the computer works and how to maintain it so you are not buying another laptop in 2 years? It's a quick and easy 'A' and you learn a lot.

Finite Math - Another very easy course, but it will help you with financial calculations like how much you should put for a down-payment on that new sports car that you are dreaming of buying.

Songbird 1.0 Released - An Alternative to iTunes

If you are familiar with the web browser Firefox then you must be aware of the company Mozilla. I have been using Firefox for many years now, and it has never let me down. It's fast, secure, and fully customizable. Mozilla's latest project has been Songbird, a media player that has the look and feel of iTunes, without all the baggage.

Last night, for some odd reason, when I booted up my trusty 'ol iTunes, none of my music was there. You can imagine how frustrated I got, and that is why I was willing to give Songbird a chance.

It was an easy install, and it loaded all my music on my computer (which is like 50GBs worth) within a few minutes. From there I told Songbird what zip code I was in, and it automatically told me what concerts were coming up around me based on my music collection. This is a sweet feature if you ask me because what usually happens is I end up hitting myself because I missed one of my favorite bands that was just playing down the street.

I recommend giving this alternative a try, I'm sure you won't regret it.

Another great thing to do when your bored in your dorm room and your procrastinating homework Netflix Origami gives you a way to reuse those red slices of a tree. Why not make a swan or some crabs ( ...The crustaceans) for your significant other. I'm sure they'll add a few more creations in the days to come.

What Google Knows...

I new site to be being passed from one AIM window to the next is whatgoogleknows.com. A sweet and clever website to get a laugh from. Just click on over there and it will give you a funny and interesting fact of what google knows. I few I got were "Google knows where Carmen San Diego is" and "Google knows whose line it is anyway." It seems to refresh itself with a new phrase every so often.

Google Pumps Out Their New Web Browser - CHROME

The web sees many different web browsers every year. The most popular ones being Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox (my fav), and for the Apple folks, Safari.

Firefox has been my default browser for several years now, and I hate going back to Internet Explorer when some websites aren't compatible. I was happy to hear that Google came out with a beta version of there new browser, Chrome.

I decided it was time to give it a try, and I have yet to com

plain one bit. It's fast, keeps the pop-ups away, and the coolest

feature, going incognito. By opening a new tab with this new feature it allows you to browse the web free of a (digital) paper trail. No longer will you have to clear your history because you don't want your girlfriend to see that you've been going to some cheerleader website.

I suggest everyone give this one a try and if you don't like it, it's a simple remove.

Ok, you can all yell at me as much as you want in the comments. I disappeared for a good amount of time, and for that, i'm sorry. Living in Boston over the Summer was just pure craziness. There wasn't a day that went by where I didn't explore a different part of Boston or met a random person and chatted for a bit.

Living in the city gave me a different view on life, and I hope I can do it again sometime, but for now, I'm back in the green state so I can once again enjoy my favorite microbrews and Ski.

For all the new viewers that have stumbled onto college kid, welcome. I'm sure there are hundreds of freshmen who need some guidance getting through their first semester in college, and that's what we're here for.

Start making this one of your frequent stops when you wake up in the morning again (after Facebook if you must) I promise i'll be around.

Get Drunk Faster

Dilemma: It's a Friday night after a long week at work, and you just want to kick back, unwind, and get trashed. Problem is, your friends want to go to some posh bar downtown, and you have only a twenty on you. How in the world are you going to get drunk on twenty bucks at a bar that sells ten-dollar martinis?

Solution: Buy an energy drink at a liquor store and use it as a mixer.

Why this works: Energy drinks have caffeine in them, which causes your veins to expand, allowing the alcohol the beverages are mixed with to circulate faster. A lot of energy drinks also have an amino acid called taurine in them, which helps speed up your metabolism. This causes you to feel the effects of the alcohol faster than you would under normal circumstances.

Canadian Border to Check iPods for Copyright Infringment

If this law is passed no more making playlists for those road trips up to Montreal to take advantage of their drinking age. This law, that is secretly being created, will allow border patrol to go through your laptop, iPods, and CD/DVDs checking for copyrighted material. If they do find anything, which they probably would with any college student, you would face fines and/or confiscation of your device. This law would just expand on the duties of border patrol because they are already allowed to randomly search people's laptops for child pornography.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Words cannot describe how frustrated I have been over the past few weeks. I am sure you have tried to visit College Kid, and you got the very ugly, and rude 404 message (not available). Something happened with our hosting company, and it killed us. We could not find what was wrong and they were very unhelpful because I was talking to them for the past two weeks and got no real help. I just wanted to apologize to all our dedicated readers (and you know who you are) because obviously being down for two weeks is unacceptable. It happened at the worst time too, during FINALS. I was already freaking out enough, but of course our website had to go down at the same time.

You WILL see posts coming your way, and I guarantee that because Ask a College Kid has new headquarters located in the beautiful city of Boston where it inspires us everyday.

Beer Frisbee - Beersbie

Got a new drinking game for you. It requires you to get your ass outside, so grab some beer and enjoy the awesome weather.

2-4 Players:
First you need two posts or pipes roughly to the chest in height and spaced a decent Frisbee toss apart stuck squarely in to the ground. You now need an object for either pole, we used empty bottles but I’m sure you could improvise some other object as long as both poles get the same object for fairness. You place this object on the top of either pole. Choose the throwing order/turn order. When it is your turn to throw the other team is ‘defending’ and you may only score when throwing. There is a beer in hand rule at all times, even while throwing. The objective of the thrower is to knock the object off the opposing team’s pole which can be done via a direct hit, hitting the pole, or just tripping up your drunken opponents. The defenders must then prevent the object from hitting the ground and catch the Frisbee. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Scoring can be done however you want but this is what we did…
Games were to 10pts.
1pt awarded for a failed catch of the Frisbee but only if it hit the object.
1pt awarded for a failed catch of the object.
1pt awarded (to opposing team) for a spilled drink regardless of defense/offense.
Loser finishes their drink.

Long Time, No Posts

First of all, let me apologize for not posting in a LONG time. It's been a crazzzzy couple of weeks and soon to be another few with finals.

I hope every ones spring break was awesome (the college kid's went to Mexico) where we got to practice some of our Spanish. We met a lot of cool people down there, but surprisingly enough it was full of high schoolers (I know, WTF?!). We only got to meet a handful of college kids that we would actually give the time of day to talk to.

It was brought to our attention that girls are dressing way to old for their age. I mean GOD DAMN, chill out, and wait your turn. I saw this one girl leave a bar with a 20 year old guy (that was a D-Bag I might add) and she was 15. First of all, she's not even supposed to be drinking, let alone leaving a bar somewhat intoxicated with a guy who "just wants to have some fun...".

Enough of Spring break, now we all have to have are minds set on getting through these next couple of weeks so we can enjoy our Summer, and not have our Mother's on our backs. Let me just say that this Summer is going to be EPIC! All the college kids (well 90%) got apartments in Boston, and we are going to party hard and long (go ahead, giggle) and it's going to be incredible. Of course, we always would like to meet some of readers, so if your ever in our neck of the woods give us a heads up.

We will be trying to throw posts up more often now that we have our grip on life again, and we look forward to seeing you in the comments.

Who The F@%$# Is Tammy?

Okay, so something kind of odd happened to me last night. I went out with my friends and when I got back to my apartment, I noticed that I had a new voice mail. I first checked the number and saw that the number said "Restricted." This meant I could not call it back, and from my own experience means that someone is out of their network (i.e. in another country). I then checked my voice mail and it was from a girl named Tammy. She said that she did not know me, but was "looking for something to do on Friday" and ended up on my website, Ask a College Kid. She told me that she wanted to "see what I should do on Friday" and to call her back. Apparently I have a secret admirer.

Usually I would just ignore something like this, but I want to know how she got my phone number. The only online network that I list my cell phone on is Facebook and I don't think that it was any of my Facebook friends. Mainly because she told me "you don't know me", and because I have no friends named Tammy. So as a result I am sending a message to this "Tammy" person: call me back and tell me how the hell you got my number.

Also, because I am certain this is a prank, good job!
