FSN Rocky Mountain honors the career of former Colorado Rockies All-Star Eric Young with two half-hour shows dedicated to the 14-year MLB veteran who is officially retiring as a member of the Colorado Rockies. The ERIC YOUNG RETIREMENT press conference debuts Fri., Sept. 12 at 6:00 p.m. MT while TOYOTA ROCKIES ALL ACCESS celebrates Young’s accomplishments in baseball with the ERIC YOUNG RETIREMENT SPECIAL Thurs., Sept. 18 at 6:30 p.m. MT.

Moderated by FSN Rocky Mountain’s Colorado Rockies announcer Drew Goodman, the ERIC YOUNG RETIREMENT press conference is being held adjacent to Coors Field at Sports Column (1930 Blake Street). Young will talk about his career in a Rockies uniform and answer questions from the media. Fans are invited to attend the press conference before the Rockies face the Los Angeles Dodgers later that night.

Young also will be honored on TOYOTA ROCKIES ALL ACCESS with the ERIC YOUNG RETIREMENT SPECIAL highlighting the former Silver Slugger’s five years playing in Denver. The show looks at Young’s homerun in the Rockies first-ever home at-bat on April 9, 1993 at Mile High Stadium. During the 1996 season with the Rockies, Young was named an All-Star and earned the Silver Slugger Award as a second baseman. Before joining the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1997, Young finished his time with the Rockies as the career leader in stolen bases with 180.

Matt Holliday to start in All Star Game

MILWAUKEE -- The Rockies' Matt Holliday will start in right field for the National League in Tuesday's All-Star Game, Colorado manager Clint Hurdle, the skipper of the NL squad, said on Thursday.

Holliday will take the place of the Cubs' Alfonso Soriano, who was elected to the starting lineup but cannot play because of a left hand injury he sustained when struck by a pitch on June 11.

"It's exciting," Holliday said. "I thought I might have a chance [to start] because Soriano might not have been able to play, so it's pretty cool, pretty exciting."

Hurdle said an MLB official told him that the league's Basic Agreement with the Players' Association stipulates that when an elected starter cannot play, the non-starting player at the same position who received the most votes on the player ballot gets the spot.

Hurdle was happy he didn't have to make the decision himself.

"To have Matt get in, I think it was meant to be that way," Hurdle said. "It's a clean transition, a seamless transition."

Holliday said it was nice knowing that he gets the chance to start because his peers made him the top vote-getter on the players' ballot among NL reserve outfielders.

"It's a nice feeling," Holliday said. "Your peers are important, those are the people you compete against and compete with. It's important and it means a lot to every player what the other guys think of you."

The veteran has played very few games at Yankee Stadium in his career and reiterated how nice it would be to man right field -- where so many greats have played -- for the last All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium.

"It'll be neat to play right field in Yankee Stadium," Holldiay said. "And to do it in an All-Star Game will be pretty cool."

Holliday, the National League MVP runner-up last season, has played in the past two All-Star Games, both times as a reserve before appearing in right field, and has gone 0-for-5 with a strikeout.

There's a strong chance he will see significant playing time in the Midsummer Classic.

"Priority 1 is to win the game," Hurdle said "I've been telling the guys that it's not going to be like Spring Training, where you put in the 'second line' in the fifth inning. We're going to play the game appropriately, and if I can, I'm going to get in as many guys as it works."

The Brewers' Ryan Braun will start in left field and the Cubs' Kosuke Fukudome will open the game in center field, Hurdle said.

"Fukudome has played a lot more center field than people give him credit for," Hurdle said.

Hurdle will also need to name a replacement for Soriano on the team, and he said he will do that after the results of the Monster 2008 All-Star Final Vote are known Thursday night. He said the choice wouldn't necessarily be the runner-up.

The decision could come as early as Friday, according to Hurdle.

"It's not going to be easy," Hurdle said. "When you pick your All-Star team, there's a whole other All-Star team who was left off the list. That's the reality of it and that's how it will always be."

Tulowitzki placed on disabled list

DENVER -- Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki was placed on the disabled list on Saturday after needing stitches to repair a cut on his hand on Friday night, according a Rockies press release.

According to The Denver Post, Tulowitzki pounded a bat into the ground after he was replaced by Omar Quintanilla in the seventh inning of Friday's game, slicing his palm.

This is the second time Tulowitzki has gone on the disabled list this year. He missed nearly two months rehabbing a torn left quadriceps that he injured April 29. He hit just .152 before going on the DL, but had improved since he rejoined the Rockies on June 20. He's now hitting .166 and has two home runs, five doubles and five RBIs since he's been back.

Jay Alves, vice president of communications and public relations for the Rockies, confirmed that Tulowitzki was injured on Friday night and said Tulowitzki would speak with the media at Coors Field at 3:30 p.m. MT.

Also, right-handed pitcher Greg Reynolds has been optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs, while outfielder Seth Smith and left-handed pitcher Glendon Rusch have been recalled from Colorado Springs and will be in uniform for tonight's game against the Marlins.

The two test Rockies players, coaches, fans and members of the media on their knowledge of obscure baseball terminology used around the ballpark. They find only the truest of fans know what terms like "yellow hammer" and "can of corn" mean when it comes to the baseball diamond.

Rizzo has Rockies players choose their NL All-Star roster for the upcoming All-Star game; however, the players were not allowed to select themselves or their teammates. Clint Hurdle, who is managing the 2008 NL All-Stars, was presented the roster card without knowing his team selected the members. He then breaks down the roster with Rizzo telling her who he agreed with and who he would have chosen differently.

Also on ROCKIES ALL ACCESS, outfielder Scott Podsednik is profiled, and while in Detroit last weekend Hurdle met up with long-time Tigers announcer Ernie Harwell who shows Hurdle some pieces of Tigers baseball history.

Colorado Baseball Before The Rockies Discussed on FSN LIVE Mon., June 9

The history of minor league baseball in Colorado is discussed on FSN Rocky Mountain Mon., June 9 at 10:00 p.m. MT as Norm Jones, Bob Howsam, Mark Knudson and Joey Meyer join FSN LIVE to talk about the Denver Bears and Denver Zephyrs.

Jones was the former radio voice for Zephyrs baseball, while Howsam was the General Manager, Knudson was a Zephyrs pitcher and Meyer was a Zephyr player who hit a 582 foot homerun at Mile High on June 3, 1987. Meyer joins FSN Live via telephone from his home in Hawaii.

Howsam's father Robert moved the Kansas City Blues baseball team to Denver in 1947 and changed the name to the Denver Bears. He also co-founded the Denver Broncos in 1959. The Bears changed their name to the Zephyrs in 1985.

The four reminisce about the minor league teams that took the field in Denver before the Colorado Rockies inaugural season in 1993. Playing their games at Mile High Stadium, Howsam remembers the large amount of fans that would attend the Bears and Zephyrs games, noting at times there would be 12,000 fans in attendance. Howsam also was a major player in bringing a MLB team to Colorado.

Meyer talks about his incredible 582 foot homerun that still holds the record for the longest homerun ever hit at Mile High Stadium. The ball reached the upper deck of the east stands of Mile High. Howsam knew that homerun was special and sent club personnel out to mark the location where the ball hit so officials could later measure. Jones, who was in the broadcast booth for that game, attempts to recreate his exact call of Meyer's homerun from the FSN Rocky Mountain studio.

This week on TOYOTA ROCKIES ALL ACCESS, hosts Oren Lomena and Alanna Rizzo are on the job at Coors Field as the duo tag along with the staff who handle game-day operations.

Hot dog vendors, traffic police, program sellers and ticket agents are among those featured who assist with making a Rockies game enjoyable for fans.

Rizzo takes the role of a clubhouse attendant for the visiting San Francisco Giants. She assists the clubhouse crew with tidying up the locker room, doing laundry and cooking the Giants players’ pregame meal.

Meanwhile, Lomena joins Colorado Rockies Advance Scout Chris Warren to see how Warren is preparing the team for their upcoming series with the New York Mets.

Keeping with the “on-the-job” theme, ROCKIES ALL ACCESS follows outfielder Ryan Spilborghs, from the moment he leaves his home until the first pitch, to get an inside look at how he prepares for Wednesday’s game against the Giants. Spilborgh’s also will be mic’d up during FSN’s telecast (Wed., May 21 at 1:00 p.m. MT).
