Let me know-
I always thought it was strange to celebrate a day of the dead by dressing up in funny costumes and roaming around the neighborhood collecting candy.... but it was tons of fun as a kid, and almost more fun as an adult to see the crazy things people do when you give them a whole day when its OK to act a little strange..on my trip to the mailbox that morning i was surprised to see the Grim Reaper himself!
I pulled out my camera and shot some quick pictures-

Apparently on his way back from a stop at the liquor store or AM/PM on his mountain bike he narrowly missed me (he has done this multiple times).

Bike karma hit him hard as he picked up about 75 goathead thorns and got himself a flat tire. Of course the grim reaper has no slime in his tubes because "..he's not from around here.." and he's asking "Put what in where?" so after selling him on slime tubes(he digs the green color, reminds him of the ectoplasmic goo from ghostbusters) he was on his way.

Before he left he said that he was thinking about doing a pink jeep tour or balloon ride and sticking around for the NOD fest, mostly because of the mountain biking, and he loved his room at Los Abrigados "..their gym is great, and they have the best hot tubs..". his favorite ride so far is deadman's pass, but he also likes hanging out near the Devils kitchen.
That was just in the first few minutes I was at work that morning and over the day things degraded steadily. by lunch I had been accosted by an octopus and chased by a cardboard box with legs full of body parts and more- but I did get a good shot in on a telletubbie thing. kicked it right in the * if it has *. it ran away, but I'd swear it was laughing as it ran.. by the end of the day I was in full costume as a Celibate Drunken Monk. To drunk to take pictures, the rest of the eve. was a blur, but my headache the next morning told the tale of too much fun being had. what did you expect?; my first customer on halloween was the grim reaper!

rob narlyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06851768444718165361bnarlz@gmail.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4895427273445290228.post-42603904816731030072008-10-25T09:44:00.000-07:002009-02-10T16:17:18.533-08:00gnarly crew @ rampagethe MTBH gnarly crew hit the road at 7pm on thursday oct 3 to see the greatest spectacle of freeride mountainbiking ever- the red bull rampage. arriving at the old venue from 04 at about 2:00am, we set up our tents, climbed into out sleeping bags and slept with dreams of freeride magic to come. not long after the first stirrings of the morning in the campground did the coffee start flowing, and with the coffee came the talk of the day- riding the old course. after a lengthy safety meeting and gear check we were on the mountain, hiking our big bikes up to the ridgelines. if you have never seen this type of terrain check out redbullrampage.com.
the videos, never do it justice- this place is steep and there are huge jumps and drops everywhere.
so there we were- standing on sacred ground- ready to throw down... to be cont.
here's some photos to get ya to come back and read the rest of the story.
<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; The celebration of Dad's special day can most likely be credited to Mrs. John B. Dodd, of Washington State, who first suggested the idea of the holiday in 1909.

Mrs. Dodd's father, civil war veteran William Smart, was widowed when his wife died during childbirth with their sixth child. Despite the obvious hardships, Mr. Smart proceeded to raise the newborn along with his five other children, by himself.

It wasn't until Sonora Dodd became an adult that she realized the strength and selflessness her father had shown in raising his children as a single parent. The original date chosen for the holiday was June 5th, Mr. Smart's birthday, however the celebration was postponed until June 19, the third Sunday in June, because there was not enough time to prepare.

At about the same time in various towns and cities across America other people were beginning to celebrate a Father's Day. Some accounts credit Mrs. Charles Clayton of West Virginia, as the founder of Father's Day, although most histories give credit to Mrs. Dodd.

In early times, wearing flowers was a traditional way of celebrating Father's Day. Mrs. Dodd favored the red rose to honor a father still living, while a white flower honored a deceased dad. J.H. Berringer, who also held Father's Day celebrations in Washington State as early as 1912, chose a white lilac as the Father's Day Flower.

In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge supported the idea of a national Father's Day, but it never became official until 1966 when President Lyndon Johnson signed the presidential proclamation that set aside the 3rd Sunday of June as Father's Day. (Source: The Internet)

Mountain Bike Heavenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13002656837321721165noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4895427273445290228.post-36334017226981199562008-04-12T14:40:00.000-07:002008-05-11T12:35:36.724-07:00Post-Ride Recovery ToolsHere are a few post-ride recovery tips:

Drink a lots and lots of water before, during and after a ride! Quite a few of our own Sedona Gnarly Crew members came out to play.
