Today couldn't have been a better day for a bike ride either. Andrea came with Ben's truck and picked Emily and I up. We were gone for a few hours and it was the perfect ending to a (too) short weekend. I also have to come clean about the picture...I didn't take it. Andrea took a nice shot but I had to beat her to the post so I was left to use Google to find a decent picture of "The Rock".<div><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-small;">*Chevy Chase did not write this </span><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weekend_Update#Chevy_Chase_.281975.E2.80.931976.29"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-small;">weekend update</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-small;"> as it would have been much funnier...</span></div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/488011519472606769-31201185021548218?l=magnolia.webhop.org%3A8181%2Fblog'/></div>scott.dinglehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12704314153439363386scott.dingle@mac.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-488011519472606769.post-1769483987849435312008-09-11T17:56:00.000-07:002008-09-11T18:19:00.281-07:00Weekend Update<div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#551A8B;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="text-decoration: underline;"><br /></span></span></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/69/San_Diego_train_station.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px;" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/69/San_Diego_train_station.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><div style="text-align: justify;">Well last weekend found me in San Diego. My Dad I rode in the <a href="http://www.bikethebay.net/Ride_Information/Route_Description.htm">Bike the Bay</a> race down in Coronado. I requested Friday and Monday off so that I could ride <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_Surfliner">the train</a> down and back. It's an 8 hour and although it takes quite a bit longer to get down there (and getting your bike on is not very fun) it was well worth it. The route hugs the coastline and provides gorgeous ocean views. I took my laptop and listened to some music, and watched a few movies.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Mom picked me up from the train station on Friday and we hung out Friday night/Saturday morning. As you probably read, the original plan was for a bike ride in Morro Bay and a drive up to Santa Cruz. Well on saturday we did head over to <a href="http://www.artscyclery.com/">Art's Cyclery</a> and bought Emily a melon catcher (helmet), but instead of heading out to Morro Bay we hung around town. Morro Bay is just to beautiful to be ignored by tourists, which meant the bike path would have been murder. Instead, we rode on to campus where we saw a total of 1...2...3...4 - 4! people on campus. We got to inspect the new <a href="http://polycanyonvillage.calpoly.edu/">Poly Canyon Village</a> housing area and just have a great time.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">After we got back from our ride on Saturday, we started going over the plans for Santa Cruz (what time we wanted to leave, costs, etc.) and started having second thoughts. We realized that we needed to be good and save up for our New York trip that we're planning for the near future. So instead of Santa Cruz yesterday, we did nothing (except watch that horrible movie) but hang out. We decided to instead go on a hike today. There is a great little hiking trail just <a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=1283+Fredericks+St,+San+Luis+Obispo,+CA+93405&daddr=Reservoir+Canyon+Rd,+San+Luis+Obispo,+San+Luis+Obispo,+California+93401,+United+States&hl=en&geocode=&mra=ls&sll=35.293411,-120.628585&sspn=0.006445,0.013894&layer=c&ie=UTF8&ll=35.29285,-120.645461&spn=0.025781,0.055575&z=15&cbll=35.291618,-120.627721&panoid=jYcH_XQhIZSb7eK0-faWvw">right off of the freeway</a> that has a waterfall and some great foliage. Here's some great pictures taken by Emily, and some decent pictures taken by me. So that's it. A great cheap, relaxing and enjoyable weekend. One of the things we did instead of go up to Santa Cruz was rent a three movies from "Hollyweird" Video. Now before you call us lazy, we didn't watch all three movies in a day. We nicely spread them out over the three days.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Let's start with the worst video first. <a href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/sex_and_death_101/">Sex and Death 101</a>. I don't know what Emily and I were thinking. Two Stars. On the <a href="http://netflix.com">Netflix</a> rating system, that's a "I Didn't Like it". One star is hated it, three stars is liked it, four being really liked it, and five being of course "I Loved It". Anyway, the premise of the movie of the movie sounded interesting enough for us to fork over a few dollars and kill some time. Let's just say that I could have had more fun watching paint dry in a monsoon, more fun watching molasses go up a mountain in Antarctica. Get my drift? This was that bad. But I didn't hate it. I couldn't give it two stars because the ending actually had a pretty decent message. I would say what it was but I'm afraid some other poor soul might want to watch it. It would have been nice to have an <a href="http://www.apple.com/iphone/">iPhone</a> so I could have checked RottenTomatoes.com. Oh well.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Okay now on to a move "I Liked" (three stars) – <a href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/charlie_bartlett/">Charlie Bartlett</a>. Okay this movie was pretty decent. Good cast, good plot, didn't waste my time. If I saw this movie for $5 to buy, I'd tell Emily to buy it. Me? Enh.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">And now for the surprise of the three. <a href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/10008760-what_happens_in_vegas/">What Happens in Vegas</a>. Emily and I almost put this movie back on the shelf. Girl am I glad we didn't. This movie was absolutely hilarious. I usually think Ashton Kutcher is such a tool that he could be part of the <a href="http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00934142000P">145 piece Craftsmen toolset</a> at Sears, but...he was great! He played alongside of Cameron Diaz (she's always good) and they had great chemistry. I do have to say that I'm glad I didn't watch any previews or read the back of the DVD case or else I may have not rented it. There's a reason I don't like watching previews. So on that note, four stars for sure.</div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/488011519472606769-8093496893463896010?l=magnolia.webhop.org%3A8181%2Fblog'/></div>scott.dinglehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12704314153439363386scott.dingle@mac.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-488011519472606769.post-2582122526340340332008-08-29T10:38:00.000-07:002008-08-29T10:43:25.513-07:00Just Read the Title of This Article...<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://magnolia.webhop.org:8181/blog/uploaded_images/hummer-h2-sut-792780.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://magnolia.webhop.org:8181/blog/uploaded_images/hummer-h2-sut-792759.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br />I Don't think mother nature likes <a href="http://jalopnik.com/5043481/why-you-dont-let--a-16+year+old-launch-your-boat-a-slideshow">Hummers</a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/488011519472606769-258212252634034033?l=magnolia.webhop.org%3A8181%2Fblog'/></div>scott.dinglehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12704314153439363386scott.dingle@mac.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-488011519472606769.post-33553545990163516332008-08-29T08:27:00.000-07:002008-08-29T08:30:02.657-07:00On Another Note<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/pirelli_black.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px;" src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/pirelli_black.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br />Pirelli is working on coming out with a new technology that allows better communication with the car and tires. The plans aren't set in stone so Saturday and Sunday may switch. With that in mind, on Saturday, Emily and I are going to load up the car with our bikes and a picnic lunch and go to <a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?daddr=Coral+Avenue,+Morro+Bay,+California+(Cloisters+Park)&geocode=8620129734605409058,35.388940,-120.859740&dirflg=&saddr=1283+Fredericks+St,+San+Luis+Obispo,+CA+93405&f=d&dq=the+cloisters+loc:+morro+bay,+ca&sll=35.38894,-120.85974&sspn=0.0484,0.027786&cid=35388940,-120859740,8121278243808530526&ie=UTF8&z=13">Morro Bay</a>. On a recommendation from a co-worker, there's a bike path that goes up and down Morro Bay. Hopefully the <a href="http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=93442&hourly=1&yday=242&weekday=Saturday">fog</a> will stay away and let us play. Then on Sunday, we're going to go up to <a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=1283+Fredericks+St,+San+Luis+Obispo,+CA+93405&daddr=425+Mystery+Spot+Rd,+Santa+Cruz,+Santa+Cruz,+California+95065,+United+States&hl=en&geocode=&mra=ls&dirflg=t&sll=36.151182,-121.316528&sspn=3.264343,7.113647&ie=UTF8&z=8">Santa Cruz!</a> I've only been there once and that was to go to <a href="http://www.mysteryspot.com/">The Mystery Spot</a> (thanks Grandpa!). Emily has been to The Mystery Spot as well but we both wanted to go again. Sunday morning we are going to drive up and go to The Mystery Spot and then head over to the Boardwalk. I've never been there and it looks like a blast. Neither of us enjoy the rides (unless it's bumper cars) but they have an <a href="http://beachboardwalk.com/02_casino_arcade.html">arcade</a> and <a href="http://www.beachboardwalk.com/02_neptunes_kingdom.html">putt-putt mini golf</a>.
