The Sheaffer Saratoga fountain pen was distributed from 1952 - 1959 and was one of the line of Sheaffer Snorkel pens. The Snorkel filling system is acknowledged as the most mechanically complex systems for pens ever devised. In short the Snorkel filling system involved a filling tube that extended and retracted from the nib that allowed the pen to be filled without the nib getting wet.

The Sheaffer Saratoga was a thin model pen that was reasonably unremarkable in appearance, bearing a similarity to the Touchdown, the Sheaffer fountain pen series that was superceded by the Snorkel range. The difference in the Saratoga came with the nib which was a plain open nib in 14ct gold.

The barrel of the Saratoga was made from plastic that came in a choice of colors - the Snorkel color range was expanded from the primary colors of black, burnt umber brown, burgundy, Persian Blue and Evergreen green. The blue and green were discarded to be replaced by Aqua and Pastel Green and they also added Pastel Grey. The Sheaffer PFM (Pen For Men) was first issued in 1959 and, although it was released around the time when the ballpoint pen was just beginning to take over as the writing implement of choice, the PFM would go on to become regarded as a classic.

The Sheaffer PFM made use of some of Sheaffer's finest technology with the snorkel filling system and the streamlined Inlaid Nib. The innovative nib construction has been in constant use ever since the release of the first PFM and can be seen today on the Sheaffer Valor.

Conklin Endura Fountain Pen

The Conklin Endura fountain pen was produced from the mid 1920s to early 1930s. They were very well made pens and made with durable bodies that have stood up well over the years. Conklin All American Fountain Pen

The Conklin All American fountain pen was originally released in the 1940s and this version is based on that design but comes with some modern design enhancements.

One of the most notable features of the Conklin All American fountain pen is the demonstrator feed that allows the ink to be viewed as it feeds into the pen’s nib. This demonstrator feed is also available with the Conklin Victory fountain pens too.

The pen is lightweight and well balanced measuring 5-3/8 inches long capped and 4-3/4 inches long uncapped. The barrel is plastic and is adorned with a silver plated band and clip. The pen nib is 14Kt gold and provides a reasonable amount of flex to enable a smooth line. The pen can be filled either by cartridge or converter.

The Conklin All American fountain pen comes in four colors : Banana Yellow, Orange Spice (shown below), Blueberry and Midnight Black.

The Conklin Victory collection is based on the original pens Conklin produced during World War II for serving soldiers. The pen is made from a special acrylic material and features a silver plated clip that is engraved with the Conklin logo.

The fountain pen features a unique looking hooded steel nib that actually looks more like it’s semi-hooded, as well as Conklin’s Demonstrator feed system. The pen has a smooth reliable flow that means you don’t need to choke down on it to maintain control. It’s a nicely balanced pen that doesn’t suffer from any skipping due to ink-flow problems.

This pen also features a steel section towards the grip at the bottom. In terms of appearance this gives the pen quite a stylish look but if your hands are the slightest bit greasy or damp there could be problems with gripping the pen properly.
