I love newborns! I had the pleasure of photographing this couple a few weeks ago for their maternity photographs and now I had the pleasure to meet little S.and she is so beautiful and very co-operative. Hard to believe she is only three weeks old, I was thrilled to be able to take their first family photographs.

It has been an incredibly busy few weeks; we had a fantastic time at this years Family Expo; lots of you stopped by our booth to say hello. I had the thrill of seeing a very old friend who lived across the hall from me back in the early days of photography school, I photographed her daughter constantly and she is now 9 years old and has a baby sister as well! Time Flies!

We have also just returned from a mini vacation in NFLD, our little dude travelled very well, however, his mommy was a bit wobbly on the ferry..its amazing how much I bobbed around.

Joe and I have always loved a good road trip...we may venture to the states for our next big excursion!

Mark your calendars...May 29th and 30th is the 5th annual Family Expo at Exhibition Park. The family expo is a great event with lots of fantastic prizes, exhibitor booths (like us!), guest speakers as well as family entertainment. This year there are three amazing top prizes; The winner of the Hannah Montana look a like contest wins a trip to see the Jonas Brothers in NYC, there is a trip to Jamaica to be won as well as a trip to Germany!

There are mainstage prizing as well as individual booth prizing...stop by our booth, say hello!

Joe and I have had a booth every year and we love going and catching up with clients! Its a great opportunity to see everyone and let everyone know what's new with us. This year will be a little different as we have a new baby boy to show off and there is a possibility our little dude will make an appearance in the afternoon, all depends on how nap time goes!

Over the past few weeks I have been out and about HRM and have noticed many areas in this city are not really designed for those with a stroller or for nursing moms. I live in Dartmouth and in the past few weeks I've been out with the stroller and have a hard time at the mall; trying to drive the stroller through stores, trying to fit in the small change rooms, there is usually only one elevator in the mall, the sidewalks don't always have a dip on both ends and it is a bit frustrating. Does anyone with children design these things?

I have nursed at Wendy's, Pizza Delight, and Chapter's and sadly none had a comfy chair or a little bit of privacy. I am getting used to nursing in public but would rather have a little room to snuggle and feed H. Does anyone else share my frustration?

Luckily, we have a private room in the studio and I encourage anyone who wants a bit of quiet and privacy to nurse while at Mic Mac to drop by and use the room, just let us know you are there and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Mother's Day Special

This weekend is the SaltScapes Expo at Exhibition Park, we went last year and were overwhelmed with all the beautiful exhibitors; cooking demo's, crafts, jewelery, Do It Yourself / Cottage / Garden / Home, The Fudge Guys (I love this fudge) and so much more! Who would have thought planning an outing for Saturday could be so thrilling and challenging at the same time?

I had the pleasure of returning to work last week for a few maternity shoots and had three amazing shoots. I have been photographing the lovely curves of a pregnant belly for several years and after having recently had our little man I realize the importance of capturing the belly at such a wonderful and amazing time

I went and spent a wonderful hour and a half with April at her new store on Robie St.....there is so much to look at and I have to thank April for being so patient with us in finally choosing a baby carrier. I felt like Goldilocks as one was too much support, one was not enough and so we ended up choosing the babyhawk and are very excited about going for our walkabouts. There are a small group of us moms in the Dartmouth area who will be heading out for walks in the coming weeks after what seems like an endless winter. If any of you want to join us please send me an email and I'll give more details.
We had Hudson in the studio today for a few more pictures as I was in doing a maternity shoot this morning so here is one image I just couldn't resist sharing.

It's been almost 7 weeks at home and it has been a mix of so many emotions I cannot adequately describe our time at home. I've not done any blogging and or work and its been wonderful to stay at home as Hudson is growing and getting so much personality, I can hardly believe how much he has changed and how much I am enjoying motherhood. We have been cooped up in here and we are looking forward to the weather finally getting a bit nicer so we can get out of the house and go for some walks in Shubie Park and Sullivan's Pond. Rather than take out the full stroller all the time we are going on a little road trip today to get a new sling so we can go on our walkabouts. I've been talking about it for months and am finally going to make my decision as to the best choice for us. I am leaning towards the Hotsling but we'll see how it goes! We are excited to go to April's new retail location for Nurtured Products for Parenting at 2571 Robie Street (at Willow St.) We are very excited and so pleased for April in her new venture, Joe was in on Sunday to take some photos and I'm thrilled with how the store looks. Hours of operation are Monday-Wednesday 10-5, Thursday-Friday 10-8, Saturday 10-5 and the Grand Opening will be on May 9th.

Arriving 11 days later than expected, Joe and I are extremely pleased to welcome Hudson James Poirier; he arrived on Feb.15 and weighed 8 lbs, 11 oz. Joe and I are absolutely thrilled with him and we are enjoying ourselves immensely.

I am still here and still pregnant! This little person is even more snug than I anticipated! A huge THANK YOU to all of you for being so flexible and patient with us in getting your images taken, viewed and picked up. Joe has been working mostly half days and doing his very best to get everything done as soon as he can while spending the afternoons coming with me to the Doctor's, to the IWK, etc.

Thus far, my experience with the IWK has been positive, I like everyone else was shocked to hear of the lady who was asked to cover herself while breastfeeding at the IWK, and even more shocked about the responses received; those who feel breastfeeding in public is wrong, indecent or women who do it are exhibitionists. I fully support a woman's right to breastfeed where ever and whenever and I hope this incident brings out a lot of discussion and hopefully some more education for everyone involved.

40 weeks and still counting...

I am officially overdue! I suspect (and hope and pray) our new arrival will be anyday now. I've eaten chilli, gone for walks, stretched out but still our baby is as snug as a bug and not coming out until he or she is ready. As such, Joe and I are anxiously waiting for the big day. I am at home trying to be domestic and Joe is at work (which I miss terribly and call three times a day to see what is going on).
We'll keep you posted!

38 weeks and counting!

As we come to the end of this very exciting time, I wanted to share a few images from our maternity shoots ( we did 4 in total). It is an amazing transformation and I have been so honored over the past several years to share in your pregnancy joys, I wanted to share some of ours! So here are a few images of our journey thus far. Who knew this adventure could be so exciting and so scary at the same time? A very big heartfelt thank you to all of you who have given some great advice and words of encouragement, those in recently who have been very patient as I move a bit slower these days as well as those who have passed along some great baby items, it is so appreciated! We will continue to share our journey as the events of the next few weeks unfold.

Feed Nova Scotia "Update"

We just received our letter from Feed Nova Scotia, thanking us for the awesome food donation we were able to collect over the holiday season! We collected more than 140 kg of non-perishable food items(over 350 lBS of food); That's over double what we collected last years food drive.

We would like to thank everyone again for their support in helping out the less fortunate in our community but it does not stop there! The holiday season is one of Feed Nova Scotia best times of the year for receiving food but they are always look for food donations during the spring and summer time when food supplies get low.

It's not a seasonal thing, it's a year long commitment and we hope that everyone can still support Feed Nova Scotia by drop off food at least once a month or even dropping a couple of cans or boxes in the collection bins the next time you are at the gorcery store.

We all can make a difference, why not start today!

Welcome to 2009! Its hard to believe the year has gone so quickly. I am nearing the 35 week mark in my pregnancy and it is taking me a bit longer to get things done so my apologies for not adding much to the blog in the past few weeks. I have lots of wonderful new families to show off but that will come later in the week.
It has been an incredibly busy last few weeks, we have had a wonderful response to our Food Bank Special and I think we had well over 300 items to donate to Feed Nova Scotia. A huge thank you to all of our wonderful clients who contributed so generously to such a wonderful cause. We will continue to help out anytime we can.

As we come into the second week of December we are coming to the end of a very busy season, its hard to believe Christmas is so close! I try to sneak in a bit of shopping whenever I can and in the past week or so I have almost finished my holiday shopping! Finally! . Since our studio is in the mall I should have had it done weeks ago but the longer I am here I have realized I am always on the hunt for the deals. The Bay (Mic Mac) has had some really good deals in the past little while. Each day is a new sale, usually 60% off of a particular item(s) and its a one day only sale so you have to be savvy. Today there are lots of good sales throughout the store; all the holiday cards/wrap etc is 60% off, there is a big selection of towels/table cloths etc also 60% and it is going very quickly. Last week I bought a pair of shoes for $2.99...seriously, it was an hourly timed special on clearance shoes. I figured why not?
A little birdie told me the men's dress pants will be a super deal in the next few days so I am keeping my eyes peeled for those. Not sure when or exactly what kind but I'll post more deals as I know them. :)

For those of you who have not seen me waddling around the mall, Joe and I are just about 8 months preggers! We are due in Feb and are eagerly awaiting our new bundle. The one little bit of shopping I haven't finished will be our stash of cloth diapers we will be buying from our favorite "nurtured" mom, April. If you are curious about cloth and all things good for baby there will be an evening of conversation, fun and shopping at Local Joe's (2959 Oxford St.) on Sunday Dec 14 from 7-9pm. I am going to do my best to make a trek over to Halifax and see all the awesome products April has. I really must get a sling as well, there are so many options...anybody want to comment on what they use and why they liked it? Any comments for this first timer would be appreciated!

We were thrilled to be asked to photograph Tamara Lorincz, who was running in the Clayton Park riding for the NDP. We were even more thrilled to find out our photograph was going to be on two billboards; one on Joseph Howe Dr. and another on the Bedford Highway. We met Tamara a while back when we did her first photo for the candidate cards and I was very impressed with her passion for the environment, women's issues and her sense of hope for a better way of accomplishing those challenges that face all of us everyday. She is a really driven, compassionate, intelligent woman and I know she'll continue to make positive changes for HRM.
