Saturday June 28th, 2008 saw Thompson Carr Auctions in Newport, TN and Douglas Lake, TN with two major Auctions. First thing Saturday the Auction Team sped their way to Newport, TN to Auction the Walter Thomas Estate Sub-Division. 10 tracts of land at Auction prices. The weather, which again co-operated and was cooler and breezier than usual for this time of year, drew bidders from all over Tennessee to buy tracts in this new development in Newport. Bidding was hot and heavy and prices were realized beyond any one's expectations. Soon after bidding was over the Thompson Carr Auction team hi-tailed it to Douglas Lake to sell two tracts of land with Lake access. Again the weather co-operated with the Team and a huge crowd greeted them when they arrived at the Auction location. The Auction conducted by Thompson Carr Auctions this past weekend was a huge success for 'Doc' Stanley. The auction held on site at 2089 Sims Road, Dandridge, TN of a 4800 sq ft home on 7 acres, 4 additional tracts of land and quality personal property. Included home furnishings, tools, equipment and antiques and surpassed expectations. Todd Thompson, State Champion Auctioneer, commented after the auction, "this is a clear sign that using the Auction method of selling is working, even in a down housing market". The weather co-operated after a wet week and buyer's turned out in full force. Bidding on the home was fast and furious then stalled for a short time before jumping again, finally the hammer came down at a bid price of $305,000. After auctioning several more tracts of land belonging to Ken and Gayle Stanley, two auction rings continued the auction of personal property with the auction finally coming to an end at around 4pm. Amid torrential rain and gail force winds Thompson Carr had a great turn out for their Auction of property on Flat Creek Road in Sevierville. Buyers turned out despite the stormy weather to bid on Billy and April Jones' homes at Absolute Auction. Investors looking for bargains were out in full force knowing that this is the market they like to buy property in. The nationwide housing slump seems to have effected all parts of the country except the Sevier County residential, land & commercial marketplace. Thompson Carr Auctions again had a successful Gun and seized goods auction for the Sevierville 4th Judicial Drug Task Force. Saturday May 3rd saw the annual Thompson Carr Auction company auction property seized by the 4th Judicial Drug Task Force. Dale Carr, one half of the Thompson Carr Auction firm said Saturday "This is fast becoming an annual event that people look forward to. This year saw an even bigger crowd than normal. We had buyer's coming in from out of state as well as local collectors" Guns are always a big pleaser as East Tennessee seems to have a large amount of serious hunters looking for that one special item. One buyer was going to Africa hunting and was looking for a gun that he could hunt Rhino with. He found it at the Thompson Carr auction on Saturday and was very pleased with his purchase. The 4th Judicial Drug Task Force also seized jewelry, cars, game machines, cameras and smaller miscellaneous items. All went under the auction block on Saturday where the bidding on diamond jewelry was frantic. Automobiles pull a unique crowd of car dealers and public alike and started the bidding at this auction with a bang. Todd Thompson of Thompson Carr Auctions stated after the auction was over "this has been a fun day, we really love to do these auctions and see the public enoying themselves".

After much soul searching Dale Carr and Todd Thompson have decided to sell the Real Estate Division of Thompson Carr Real Estate and Auctions. Thompson said, at a recent press interview, Our (Dale and Todd) first love is Auctions, in recent years we have found our time being more and more devoted to managing the Real Estate side of the business. We needed to make a decision on where we saw our company in 10 years. Dale and I both decided that we wanted to dedicate ourselves to providing the best Auction Services in East Tennessee. In order to accomplish this goal we had to make some hard emotional decisions. We really wanted the Real Estate Division to be sold to someone who would care as much about the Realtors as we have. We believe we have found that in Geri Rennie. Geri has been a realtor with us for a couple of years and has always proved to conduct herself with professionalism and integrity. Carr said Todd and I were thrilled when she agreed to purchase, we cannot think of any one better suited to carry on the Real Estate side and our name. We know Geri will make a great success in this new venture and look forward to many years sharing the same building with us.
Rennie said she intends to make very few changes to the already flourishing Real Estate Division and will re-evaluate where we are in 6 months. Geri is also very excited to announce that her daughter Ginger Riggs will be stepping up to help with the administrative side. Riggs stated her and Geri have been in business together for several years and now they are both excited about working along side each other on a full time basis.
