I will post weekly or bi weekly updates of our pumpkin patch. It's fun to watch things grow, especially when it's something that you are nurturing.

Semi-Custom made Kitchen Hutch

I call this semi-custom made because we bought the cabinets in stock at Loews. The cabinets were unfinished. We ripped out the old pantry cabinet and put upper and lower cabinets in its place. My husband made the butcher block countertop. He also added beadboard to the wall between the upper and lower cabinets. Beadboard was also applied to the side of the cabinets. Wooden shelf brackets were added to enhance the look, as well as crown molding. The wood panels were cut out of the upper cabinet doors and replaced with textured glass.(we're thinking of replacing the glass with clear glass-expensive mistake). Finally, we will add hardware and lights in the upper cabinet to show off the pretty china.

Pumpkin Vision

I know this is not really art(at least not mine) but nature does inspire me much of the time. And this is a vision that I have that my family and I are trying to make a reality.

This is the start of our pumpkin patch that we planted in the backyard. We are very excited about our first sprouts! We hope to have pumpkins by Halloween.

Life is sculpted on a moment-to-moment basis. Every one of the thoughts we think, the words we speak, and the actions we take contributes to the complex quality and character of the universe’s unfolding. It simply is not possible to be alive without making an impact on the world that surrounds us. Every action taken affects the whole as greatly as every action not taken. And when it comes to making the world a better place, what we choose not to do can be just as important as what we choose to do.

By holding the belief that our actions don’t make much of a difference, we may find that we often tend to forego opportunities for involvement. Alternatively, if we see ourselves as important participants in an ever-evolving world, we may feel more inspired to contribute our unique perspective and gifts to a situation.

It is wise to be somewhat selective about how and where we are using our energy in order to keep ourselves from becoming scattered. Not every cause or action is appropriate for every person. When a situation catches our attention, however, and speaks to our heart, it is important that we honor our impulse to help and take the action that feels right for us. It may be offering a kind word to a friend, giving resources to people in need, or just taking responsibility for our own behavior. By doing what we can, when we can, we add positive energy to our world. And sometimes, it may be our one contribution that makes all the difference.

Silly Sketching

" messed up"

My whole interest in art started when I was a child. I was at a party and there was a great artist there doing caricatures. I was fascinated. I sat and watched him the whole time. When I got home I started doing silly sketches of everyone I knew. I wish I had at least one now to see what I really was doing and how accurate they were or weren't.

So I found a website giving instructions on how to do a caricature. The bottom sketch is the "normal one" and the top one is obviously the "messed up" one.(Both sketches are mine) I think it's a little too messed up. She looks like an alien, not exactly what I was going for.

Anyway, I'm posting this just because I haven't done any art in a while so this is it. Maybe I should have left this one out.

I have been on vacation for the past week. I will return to my faux slate in the next day or two, weather permitting. In the meantime, here's a little circle doodle that I did on the ride home from our trip. I guess it's abstract/surreal. Whatever it is, it was fun to do.

It rained the other night. I put down a tarp but the water went right through. It didn't seem to effect the paint job lucky. Bu I did have to wait for the concrete to dry so it slowed me down a little. I will probably do more painting tonight when the sun dips down behind the trees.

I have decided to work on the front at the same time that I'm painting the back. This way when it's too sunny and hot to work in the bakc I can continue in the front. I'm hoping this will speed up the process. So here are the first steps-1. Chalk in the design 2. Paint over the chalk lines...

I'm still working out the kinks. It takes a while to get the right feel and touch for the surface. The color variation is subtle. I'm working with blue, green, browns and light beige. The colors are difficult to see in the pictures but they're there and look very nice in person.
