Dear oh dear oh dear. There are few things in life that give me more pleasure than a long button-bashing session on my favourite console and as much as i say that i love it, it doesn't mean that i am literally IN love with my gaming console, i mean, i wouldn't do anything rash like go up a dark alley and into a dingy tattoo parlour and get Xbox 360, Wii or PS3 encrypted on my skin but neither would anyone else would they? You'd have to be pretty brainless wouldn't you?

Well sadly, a UK PS3 addict has gone out and done exactly what i just said nobody would ever be stupid enough to do, well not exactly, i don't know about the dark alley and all that but lets just take this opportunity to stereotype tattoo... artists, if that's what you call them and add a bit of imagination to this idiots story. Apparently getting those particular three big black letters scored into his arm forever is a "Worlds First. Usually a worlds first is an achievement but I'm pretty sure there is a different reason why this is a worlds first and i don't think i need to state what it is, you already know. Lets just hope it is a "World's Last" aswell.

The guy, known as Mobiletone, a regular commenter on Sony's semi-official Threespeech blog site, said after getting it done:

‘How much do I love my console? I guess this video says it all. It’s been nearly a year since the PAL UK launch of the console and I decided to get this tattoo done in honour of what I consider the best console ever made. Love gaming, love women and love life.’

Yes you did read "I guess this video says it all" right, there is a video and you can see it below, although it is completely pointless. So Mobiletone may now be "Britain's Most Pointless Man" but lets not bash him too much more. He has definitely made me laugh today and I'm sure I'm not the only one so i salute him for that. Some say laughter is the most powerful aphrodisiac but if i were Mobiletone I'd be sure to stick to long sleeve shirts if out trying with the ladies from now on.

It's Official! The Death Of HD-DVD

It is finally over, the fat lady is singing!

The inevitable has finally happened. Toshiba have cancelled their HD-DVD format and put an end to the Hi-Def war with its rival Sonys Blu-Ray... thank god! After two years of spatting, boring us consumers to death and just being annoying in general, Toshiba have finally raised the white flag and conceded that the fat lady is in fact singing.

Toshiba have now officially pulled the HD-DVD plug and will cease production of all its HD-DVD players, discs and accesories by March 2008. This is a blow for the early adopters of the HD-DVD format and i suppose i do sort of feel sorry for them but in all honesty you should really know by now not to jump the gun when these type of spats between rival companies are ongoing, unless you buy both!

If you are one of those who has been sitting on the fence and waiting for a winner to be announced, it is now time for you to go out and treat yourself to a Blu-Ray player. Hopefully now that Blu-Ray is the sole provider of Hi-Def material, the prices will come down. That was definitely one advantage HD-DVD had over its nemesis, prices!

The only thing that has really got me thinking from the death of HD-DVD is the little matter of the Xbox 360. Will we being seeing an Xbox 360 with a built-in Blu-Ray drive or will they be throwing another bloody add-on drive at us and if so, how long is it going to be before we see one? N-Gage Gaming Platform Goes Live At Last

They've certainly taken their time with their latest version of the gaming platform but Nokia are finally ready to unleash the new-G Nage upon the public.

The latest version of N-Gage was supposed to be ready to rock by the end of December last year but somewhow it has managed to take until February 08 to get it Live but who cares! it's here now! The N-Gage gaming platform will still only be available to users with a N81 handset so if you were like me and thinking the delay releasing N-Gage was down to prepping it for other Nokia handsets then welcome to the Deeply wrong and way off the mark gang.

N-Gage is available for download over at N-Gage First Access and there are currently three titles available to play, Space Impact: Kappa Base, System Rush: Evolution and Hooked On: Creatures of the deep. N81 users get over there now and get your N-Gage on!

O2 Announce Cheaper iPhone Tariffs For The UK

The attitude towards the Apple iPhone here in the UK is kind of, "Well yeah, it's a cool phone and all, i get it, but how do i pay rent once I've bought one?" Well O2 have announced that from February 1st 2008 they are to offer improved tariff deals on the Apple iPhone, meaning that at long last the Apple iPhone might just be value for money.

The current iPhone Tariffs are at £35 a month, £45 a month and £55 a month. If you are on the £35 deal you will currently be getting 200 minutes and 200 texts. Now the minutes on the £35 a month deal have been tripled to 600 and the texts have been bolstered to 500. The £45 a month will now be the same as the current £55 a month deal giving you 1200 free minutes and 500 free texts while the £55 a month deal will be banished and be replaced with a £75 a month deal. All you guys out there on the £55 deal need not to worry though, you will not be forced into paying £75 a month, you will be put down to the £45 deal which will give you the same amount of minutes and texts that you were on already only you will be getting them for ten bucks less! The new £75 a month deal will give you a massive 3000 free minutes a month plus your 500 free texts of course.

The best part is that these new tariffs will apply to both new and existing customers. If it was O2's outrageous tariffs that were stopping you from investing in an iPhone before, you have no excuse now.

At Macworld Steve Jobs pulled out the Macbook Air from a standard-sized manila envelope, a move which left all Apple lovers watching, gasping for air. Even though it is only a couple of days after Macbook Air's unveiling, the accessories have already been made. Yes, two self-confessed Apple geeks have designed a laptop case resembling a manila envelope so you can pull your own version of the Steve Jobs move whenever you like.

The AirMail "envelope" is handmade out of durable upholstery-grade vinyl, lined with a fuzzy, soft fleece and is the same size as your run of the mill manila envelope. The geeks have said that AirMail is good enough to protect your Macbook Air from cosmetic damage, smudges and keep it safe from bumps in daily use. However it is not suitable for extreme circumstances, so it appearing in the next James Bond movie is highly unlikely.

For a £1200 laptop I'd prefer a case in the form of an Army Tank, soldier included rather than an envelope lined with "bum fluff" but for the pure fun of it, it would be 15 quid well spent. You can buy one right here.

Is This The Death Of HD-DVD? - Toshiba Slash HD-DVD Prices Again

Last week the HD-DVD camp were dealt another blow in the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray war, actually, they were dealt more blows than Rocky Balboa and this time it doesn't look like Rocky will get back up (Yes, HD-DVD is Balboa in this cheap metaphor). After having to cancel its pitch at CES, movie studios Warner Bros and New Line Cinema jumping over to team Blu-Ray and Microsoft considering a Blu-Ray Xbox, i would be right in saying that it was a week that HD-DVD will want to forget. The question now is... "Is this the end for HD-DVD?" It certainly looks that way, Microsoft considering turning Blu has really got to sting but HD-DVD's egos and pride are far too great to just throw in the towel and they are going to fight to the death in true Rocky fashion.

The HD-DVD player top dogs are Toshiba and they have came out swinging, announcing some super sharp price cuts. Over in the US, entry level players HD-A3, HD-A30 with 1080p output and the high-end HD-A35 have now had their price tags slashed down to a clearance bin worthy $150 (£75), $200 (£100) and $300 (£150). The US are not the only ones offered HD-DVD bargains. Over here in the UK the Toshiba HD-EP30 (pictured) has had yet another price drop and is now down to a cool £180 plus you get 7 free HD-DVD titles, yes that's right, 7! Also in the U.S of A, Toshiba are starting a new huge ad campaign to try and get back in the hi-def fight, concentrating on HD-DVD prices and DVD-handling benefits.

Will this "fightback" work? Or are they just postponing the inevitable a little bit longer? I'll leave that for you to decide but at the end of the day, we are all getting bargains and that is music to anyone's ears.

Samsung F490 Takes On iPhone And Hits The UK First

Samsung are leading the charge from mobile producers in the "War against iPhone" by launching a brand new touchscreen mobile phone named the F490.

The F490 has a 3.2 inch screen with haptic-touch feedback which should be more than satisfactory for even the most critical of mobile phone pundits, an 11.8 mm chassis which is only .2 of a mm thicker than that of an iPhone so it is definitely not overweight and for Web uses it has HSDPA where it definitely tops the iPhone's average EDGE. Memory is a bit of a let down with only 130MB internal memory so you'll be thanking your lucky stars for MicroSD. An SD card is a must have or you'll quickly be running out of media opportunities.

The Samsung F490 is to be launched in the UK first in February which will be a very rare event when launched indeed but a price has not yet been set, be sure to check back for more news soon.

Everyone wants the web sitting right in their pocket nowadays, whether its from mobile phone or a handheld computer, you just have to have it. Sony's new answer to real quality pocket surfing is their new handheld computer... Mylo COM-2.

Mylo 2 is an extremely classy and very sexy device which boasts a 3.5in touch-screen which flips up to reveal a QWERTY keyboard, wi-fi, a 1.3mp camera, Skype, a backlit keyboard, 1GB of storage, email and instant messaging. Now that is a real quality piece of tech and you'd be mad to disagree. It also supports iPhone-style widgets, such as a very sharp Facebook monitoring app. Of course, it'll play music and movies from memory cards and, in the US, it'll connect to Wayporthotspots for free. Sweet!

A UK release date and price is yet to be confirmed but it has been launched in the US for $300.

Google To Launch A Wikipedia Of Its Own

Captain of the ship that is the World Wide Web, Google, has announced they are about to release their own version of the user-submitted online encyclopedia, Wikipedia.

Google say that there are millions of people with useful knowledge worth sharing and there are billions more that could benefit from it but not everything is written because it is simply not easy enough to do it. I beg to differ, Wikipedia managed it easy enough, ok, its inconsistent, everything is not entirely accurate and half the content is most probably written by monkeys but it's simple to use at least. Bearing that in my mind, the point i think that Google are actually trying to make is that it is not easy enough for logical human-beings who actually have something sensible to write to get their article out there.

Googles "Knol" which stands for "a unit of knowledge" will be different from Wikipedia in a couple of ways. Knol is going to be much more author based so you will get recognition for what you've written with your name and picture and users will be able to rate content aswell as add comments, questions and edits. Google say they will not serve as an editor in any way, and will not bless any content. I just hope they have a consistent way of keeping out all the hogwash, otherwise it'll be no better than Wikipedia.

MP3 player Grand Masters, Creative, have given everybody a bit of a shock by announcing the arrival of an absolute Everest of a device with their whopping new 32GB Flash Media Player. Talk that a 32GB Creative Zen was coming our way was flowing freely amongst Tech-Heads in recent times but Creative were always very rigid on the whole idea and constantly dismissed that such a device was in the making. It seems those cheeky Creative chappies just love a good wind-up.

The supposed "never gonna happen" player has been released in Asia this week and believe it or not... the UK! although stock is limited over here and when i say limited, i really mean LIMITED. I'm not talking a thousand or a couple of hundred here, it is more like... 50! So, if you want one get yourself over to Creative Labs pronto.

The Creative Zen 32GB has double the memory of the new iPod Touch, 4 times more than the iPhone and it has a SD/SDHC card slot so you can add even more! Despite all this its size is still that of a credit card, only, a little chubbier. The 32GB model will support file types WMA, MP3, AAC, WMV9, MJPEG, MPEG4, DivX and XviD and will display video at a 320x240 resolution. It also has other little treats such as a built in microphone and a built in FM radio, supplied software for converting formats and it will play stuff bought from iTunes. With a price of £284.99 it does look a little steep so all you need to ask yourself is "Is this too high a price for the worlds first 32GB flash media player?"

Nokia Re-launch N-Gage Gaming Platform This Week

Nokia will be re-launching their gaming platform N-Gage this week much to the delight of the devoted Nokia N Series community… they have had to wait a while! But, it looks as though Nokia have kept their promise and it will be here before Christmas, even if they did leave it until the very last minute.

It’s not all grins and giggles though. Nokia N95 and Nokia N82 owners will have to turn those “beams of joy” upside down into “pouts of pain” because the only compatible phone until next year is the Nokia N81, so if you just can't wait and have to get a go of N-Gage now! i suggest you invest in a Nokia N81. Although you N81 owners are laughing your heads off right now, you may be brung down a peg or two by the fact that it will be a BETA service and only a few games will be available to start with. N95 and N82 owners may be able to seek a little solace in that.

Games available from release include The Sims 2 Pets, FIFA 08 and Brothers In Arms with highly anticipated detective game Dirk Spanner and the Fallen Idol set for 2008.

Sony Release New DivX Playback For PS3

Sony have released their new firmware update v2.10 for the PS3 and along with DivX support there are a couple of other little treats that are sure to tickle your fancy.

The main feature included in the new update is undoubtedly the new DivX and VC-1 (WMV) file type compatibility. Now you can stream all your DivX stuff that is piling up on your PC through your PS3 without any fuss whatsoever. To add to the DivX news, the Blu-Ray Disc Profile has been upped a class to 1.1 which means picture-in-picture playback is now an option and that the PS3 keeps the tag of "Best Value Blu-Ray Player"

Aside from functional file types and new disc performances Sony have also blessed us with a new Voice Changer feature. The Voice Changer feature has been added to voice / video chat and will allow you to change the pitch and tone of your voice. So, if you want to voice your opinion like "Arnie" or giggle to your Star Wars loving chums like R2D2, you'll be there for hours experimenting with this new tool.

Adidas have decided that they have what it takes to take on the burden of sorting out football controversy and try and put an end to this beef on goal-line decisions. Their contribution to the football fracas is a new ball! Yep, just a ball, well... it's not just any ball.

The Teamgeist II is a brand new, state of the art football fitted with sensors that will judge whether the ball has crossed the line or not. The sensors are inside the ball and they work in conjunction with other sensors that are located around the pitch, which means that the balls exact location can be tracked at all times, thus being able to determine whether the ball crosses the line or doesn't cross the line. But how does the ref get the message? Does this magic new ball have speech capabilities too? Does it scream "Hoi! Ref! I'm out!". No...don't be silly. The ball will send a message over to the refs watch informing whether it is out or not, pretty cool huh?

The Teamgeist II ball was secretly tried out at the recent Club World Cup in Japan where it impressed the Fifa jury and it looks as though it is set to be used at the next Fifa World Cup in South Africa in 2010. With all the officials involved in the game nowadays, the ref himself, 2 linesmen and a 4th official, i still can't believe the job isn't done good enough and we need to employ a robotic-like football as a 5th official. Maybe Adidas should invent a ball that can handle all decisions in the game and issue the right colour of card aswell, what you think?

So you might have been hearing about Amazon's new eBook over the course of the week and wondering what the story with this thing actually is. Well the easiest way to think of it is... "an iPod for books"

Amazon say that you will be able to download a whole book onto Kindle in under 1 minute and unlike WiFi, Kindle will use the same high-speed data network (EVDO) as advanced cell phones—so you never have to locate a hotspot.The Amazon Kindle, priced at £200, sold out on its debut but they are back in stock for December 5th so you can get one before Christmas.

Apple Launch Video Download Service In The UK

Apple have bolstered their UK iTunes service with the addition of video downloads. Now Brits will be able to download their favourite TV Programs right onto their pods!

For now the service is pretty much restricted to US TV shows, so if you are a Vicar Of Dibley fan, i wouldn't get your hopes up just yet (Yes, I've already checked). Considering your favourite programs are American then you are just fine! Some of the most notable programs available are Lost, Ugly Betty, Prison Break and Desperate Housewives but there is a whole galaxy more to choose from.

Of course there is a price involved, i mean it is iTunes. In the BBCs story on this new service they made it very clear that "UNLIKE the BBC, Apple will charge their customers £1.89 an episode" and even though they did mention that their own service is just "catch up", they didn't stress too much upon the fact that through iTunes you actually get to KEEP the program apposed to the BBC option where you only get 7 days to watch it before it is snatched from you, never to be seen again! Content downloaded via iTunes can be viewed on iPods, TV (both regular and widescreen) and can also be used through an Apple TV box.

BBC iPlayer Goes Online This Friday

This Friday the BBC will launch the long awaited iPlayer. Having clicked on to the fact that online telly is pretty much in demand, they may have left it a bit later than they should have but who cares, it is here now, well almost.

This means that choosing between YouTube'ing and general web browsing or watching an episode of Eastenders on TV is a thing of the past, after all, why should you have to glance your eyes over to the TV, that just takes WAY too much effort right? Let alone having to stand up to go over and press the button to turn the thing on. Well now you can stay cemented to your computer chair and enjoy both like a "Computer Chair Potato".

A plus point on the iPlayer is that the Beeb have changed it from invite only (like Joost) to Public Beta which means everyone can give it a go! Or does it? Well.... unfortunately it doesn't mean that anyone can give it a go, along with plus points i guess you always have to have..... minus points?

Anyway, that means that their are some drawbacks. For example, BBC iPlayer will only work on Windows XP and will not work on Mac, Linux or Vista initially, down to DRM matters (Yes, damn those bloody DRMs!) Which has resulted in a strong appeal for the player to be banned until it is available to everyone. But fortunately the plan is full steam ahead and it will be released on the 27th July.

As a consolation for Mac, Linux and Vista users, a version is expected to be released for the Mac in the Autumn with Vista and Linux expected to be slightly later. You know, that ain't really much of a consolation is it? If you have ditched XP for a more hip Vista or converted to Mac or Linux, i suggest you fetch it back out of the bottom of the cupboard!

O2 To Win Fight For UK iPhone Contract?

The race to win the iPhone contract in the UK is heating up big time! Vodafone have been the supposed front runners to win the iPhone contract pretty much since the JesusPhone was first announced but T-Mobile jamp into the race last week and now according to the BBC, O2 are going to come first in this iPhone marathon.

According to the BBC, O2 are set to sign an exclusive contract very soon, and that the iPhone will be available in the UK by Christmas, even though O2 owners Telefonica have said that no deal has been agreed!

I'm sure next week Virgin Mobile will be striking up a super deal with Apple then the day after that Orange will be providing us with more fabulous iPhone announcements. God knows who will be giving us this mobile monstrosity. My theory for now is that the UK iPhone is a myth, maybe we will never see it? But don't worry folks, more often than not, i am wrong.

Following LG's team up with Google not to long ago to bring us the LG KU-580 (or Google Phone if you will) LG are now going to give us the YouTube Phone.

It is an LG mobile that is specially optimised for YouTube. The new YouTube-enabled handsets will feature a brand new LG user interface for easily accessing and uploading video content. This means all you wannabe directors will be able to film, upload and view videos on YouTube using just your mobile phone, no need for a computer at all. So if you are a hardcore YouTube'er, you can throw that PC of yours out the window rock n roll style and get yourself one of these bad boys.

The phone is expected to be available in Europe some time in the second half of the year.

The gaming world has went Nintendo Wii crazy and anything Wii is a certainty to be hot. Japanese Mobile Games company Gesturetek Mobile are the world's first "Gesture Controlled Mobile Gaming Company" and they have brung Wii style games right onto your very own mobile phone!

Gesturetek's technology is called The EyeMobile Engine and it works by using your Mobile phones camera to sense motion. There more details on how it works here.

The technology isn't just for game though, it also works on maps and more, to help you discover your way around just like jumping into a Mary Poppins map. Pretty cool huh. Check out the video below.

Tonight the guys at Rockstar Games are dropping us with another mouth watering trailer for the new GTA IV game but before the main course is served, they have brought us out a starter. They have given us these 2 new screenshots of the game just to work us up even more.

One shows the games new top dog, Niko Bellic, in what looks like an evading of the law after some sort of madness! and the other is a camera shot of Niko from behind, where he is probably about to go out for a spot of midnight car jacking.

The speaker case is water resistant and is clamped onto your bike just like a water bottle. The remote control is mounted to your handle bars so you can easily change tunes while cycling! The speaker can also be used at home and comes with an AC adaptor and will charge your iPod while it is connected.

So its an "iPod Home Dock" and a new type of Dock, the err... "iPod Bike Dock".

Manhunt 2 Video Game Banned In The UK

Manhunt 2, the sequel to the violent video game "Manhunt",
has been banned from being sold in the UK. It is now illegal to supply the "stalk and slay" style game anywhere in the UK.
The last game to be refused classification from the censors
board was "Carmageddon" back in 1997. Which was later overturned after appeal. Rockstar games will have 6 weeks
to appeal their case on Manhunt 2, also hoping for an overturn.

The heart of the controversy seems to come from the version available on the Wii, due to the consoles interactivity with the game through the numchuck controllers. It is felt that the game is pure and simply practice for serial killers!

On the other end of the argument however, Parents of a schoolboy from Leicester who was murdered at 14 years old, blamed the original Manhunt video game for their sons murder. They are delighted that the game has been banned. They believed that their sons killer had become obsessed with the game.

All i can say is that, whatever way is right or wrong, Should it be released? Shouldn't it be released? All us sane people are missing out on a really good game. The game is an 18 and is designed for adults. If young kids are being allowed to play these games then i blame it on the parents. Keep control of your children.
