Lost episode of NPR's Fresh Air

We here at Irrational Public Radio are proud and a little dyspeptic to present a heretofore lost episode of the NPR interview program Fresh Air with Terry Gross. This wholly unauthorized presentation will shock, titillate, enrich, and bring untold wealth and personal fortune *.

The episode is made possible through the support of the Swirdling Panther Hospital, and their community outreach program providing seniors with limited mobility the chance to have the unconditional love and companionship of a recently mended African Panther.

New Media Brainstorming

Hi everyone and a Happy early Halloween to you!

First, we've been remiss on new podcast episodes. Like an abusive boyfriend, we're just going to say we're sorry, baby. It won't happen again.

Secondly, we're applying for an MQ2.0 grant. The "Maker's Quest" grant is funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and is for independent public radio producers to find ways to bridge the gap between broadcast and new media. So if I manage to get one of these highly sought-after grants, I'd need to have some solid, innovative ideas on how to do that. "New Media" can mean social networking sites, content for mobile phones, blogs, really anythnig beyond the public airwaves. I've already got an IPR presence on the web, facebook, myspace, , etc., but I'm looking for ideas to take it beyond that. Something that keeps true to the gist of the project (a public radio parody) but beyond just people clicking on a link to listen on the web. Perhaps solicit animators to do animated shorts of brief segments of IPR? Some kind of an online treasure hunt in which the clues are taken from past IPR podcast episodes?

All ideas are welcome. These are somehwat new waters for me. Thanks as always for your support. I started this damn project 10 years ago, and it's spent more time on the shelf than off, but I'm working to change that. At some point, I'm going to use that shelf for kindling.

IPR Needs Your Hair

We here at IPR are committed to solving crime in all its forms. We've partnered with law enforcement officials in all 47 states to raise awareness of masonic fraud targeted at the elderly of all ages. For each pound of human hair our listeners send in, the Freudenberg Cooperative will build a small mobile prison to house an individual guilty of that fraud. The prison will be made of sturdy dark green plastic and will tour the perpetrator's neighborhood with a powerful speaker standing on the roof poetically espousing the virtues of honest living and strong bones. Please, scour your hairbrushes. They're filthy.

Hello my beautiful, irrational readers/listeners :

Got a new podcast episode for ya (thanks for being patient).

For some reason, whereas most aggregators seem to dig my RSS feed and update just fine, Yahoo Podcasts only registers the first 5 episodes. Any RSS-savvy people out there want to check out my feed source code and give me some clues as to why this is? If you can solve it, I'll put your name in the next episode.

Also, I'm walking in AIDS Walk Los Angeles in October, and I'd love your support. It is, if this needs to be said, a very worthy cause. More info here.

Limerick Winner

The winner of the IPR Finish-the-Limerick contest is Jason AKA Gorilla Sushi, and it goes a little something like this;

There once was a friendly marshmallow,

fell in love with a dish of green jello.

They had children aplenty

But once they hit twenty

Their flavor did notably mellow

I liked this one especially because it stuck to the theme, and fit perfectly into the meter of the limerick. Honorable mention goes to Dave for :

Here's where the project stands; before the end of the year we hope to have a full-length CD available, with loads of new material. We'll still be putting out free podcast episodes periodically (we're a small-time operation at present, but we'll do them as often as possible).
