The Arizona Snowbowl in Flagstaff announced today it will open for skiing and snowboarding on Thursday, December 17.

The ski area received 7-13 inches of snow over the weekend.

All 4 lifts will be operating and about 80% of its terrain open, said Dave Smith, the ski area's sales and marketing director.

Arizona Snowbowl is open daily from 9 am to 4 pm.

Arizona Ski Resorts Still Waiting to Open

Sunrise Ski Resort in Arizona's White Mountains reports 24 to 30 inches of snow from the recent winter storm. Sunrise has no opening date yet, according to a update posted on www.sunriseskipark.com.

Flagstaff's Arizona Snowbowl reports 21 to 34 inches of new snow the last 7 days and 54 inches season to date snowfall. Snowbowl posted on its website, "We do not have a projected opening date set. Please keep checking back."

A fast moving Pacific storm will hit the State on Friday. A few inches of snow may fall above 6000 feet, the Flagstaff National Weather Service said Thursday afternoon.

A strong Pacific storm system has brought snow to Northern Arizona, dumping 12 to 18 inches of new snow around Flagstaff, according to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff.

The weather service says snow will increase in intensity this evening and overnight bringing substantial snowfall to the higher terrain.

A blizzard warning remains in effect until noon MST Tuesday, the weather service says. Snow accumulations of 15 to 24 inches of snow is expected with local amounts up to 30 inches.

Winter storm Brings Road Closures, Heavy Snow

The weather service says, a major winter storm will continue through Tuesday morning. The snow levels will range from 5000 to 6000 feet. With heavy snow accumulations above 6000 feet, says the Flagstaff National Weather Service.

Snow is falling in the Grand Canyon National Park, park spokeswoman Shannan Marcak said. Currently, Hermit Road, also known as the West Rim Road, is closed due to poor visibility and deteriorating driving conditions, says Marcak.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) recommends the following winter driving tips: Avoid stopping along the side of highways or interstates for non-emergency purposes such as playing in the snow. DPS says this can prove to be very dangerous and even deadly considering that many vehicles are traveling too fast in snow conditions. Parking along the roadways also prevents snow removal trucks from clearing snow from the roads.

DPS says to slow down to speeds where the car can be completely under the control of the driver. Maintain greater following distances. Turn on your headlights.

Today's Arizona Republic newspaper featured a half page ad on page A3 for Arizona Land & Ranches, Inc's Scenic Ridge Ranch. At the top of the ad was in big letters: Grand Opening November 7th and 8th only.

The property used to be the Chilcott Ranch. The Apache County property is located in Concho, Arizona. The company sales office is located 30 minutes away in Show Low.
