Kawai are a third generation Japanese family owned company, specialising in the building of handmade grand & upright pianos and the precision manufacturing of some of the world’s best digital pianos. There is something in their range of pianos suitable for every person and every room space and we are honoured to be able to sell these as agents for Kawai Pianos in our jazz shop in Ventnor.

Each Isle of Wight Jazz Festival sees the return of the fabulous 9’6” Shigeru EX Concert Grand piano, this year gracing the main stage. Over one hundred years ago, in a humble workshop in Japan, Koichi Kawai embarked upon a journey... a spiritual quest to design and build a piano that would one day be called "the finest." A generation later, this dream burned intensely in the heart of Shigeru Kawai. To him, it represented not just his origins, but his destiny... an unrelenting force that would launch a lifetime of devotion in the pursuit of perfection. In the SHIGERU piano, you will see not just his labor and his love... but his life. The Shigeru is a grand piano in a class of its own, from the same advanced origins as every other Kawai insturment but handmade by and elite brand of craftsmen , the Master Piano Artisans, each one of whom is at the pinnacle of his profession and who spends 5 times as much manual labour time bringing a Shigeru to life than any other traditional instrument. For the past two years we have had the great honour of welcoming two of these such Artisans over to Ventnor with the Shigeru, to ensure total precision of tuning before use in each performance. Made from 25 year aged EZO spruce from the snow-shrouded mountains of Hokkaido, with Kigarashi (meaning: finding balance through time and nature) Premium Aged Soundboards and other parts exclusive to KAWAI, this is a concert grand piano with soul, built from the heart with a passion for excellence.

In addition, the Church will be graced with a 7’6” Grand Piano so that Gwilym Simcock’s mastery can shine as it deserves and on other stages, the Concert Artist 111, with spruce backboard or the classic stage & studio portable MP5 will make its annual appearance with the bands on stage. Therefore, if you see a Peerless and like playing it, buy it there and then because they are not so very easy to find and they are exceptional quality and value.

We are pleased to announce that the 2010 IOW Jazz Festival will continue to partner this charity. ChildHope International was established twenty years ago as the first international movement working on behalf of street children with support from UNICEF, Save the Children (Sweden), World Council of Churches, the International Catholic Child Bureau and others. The ChildHope UK office then became established as a UK charity in 1989 and retained links with ChildHope offices in Brazil, the Philippines and the USA, but became fully independent of them. ChildHope UK was a founding member of both the Consortium for Street Children and the European Network on Street Children Worldwide.

ChildHope grew out of a recognition of the huge and growing but neglected problem of children living and working on the streets of Africa, Asia and Latin America. Often subject to abuse, and forced into particularly hazardous forms of work, these children face horrifying risks. ChildHope began by responding to their immediate needs for food, clothing, shelter, healthcare and counseling. We then developed longer-term strategies based on family reintegration, education and training. For some years ChildHope UK has also been working to tackle the causes of family disintegration and the ‘push’ factors that force children onto the streets as runaways or labourers. ChildHope partners work within communities to strengthen safety nets and social structures that enable children to protect themselves against violence. This has led ChildHope to work with not only children in the street environment, but also with those affected by HIV and AIDS, and children vulnerable to abuse within institutions such as the law enforcement agencies, the courts and the education system.

ChildHope now assist organisations to develop clear policies, procedures and practices for ensuring the protection of children throughout their work. ChildHope are supporting learning and advocacy at all political levels to ensure that children’s rights are addressed in law, policy and practice.

Adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11325615438104763010noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4736515387959983808.post-14643370586066870052008-07-21T13:58:00.001-07:002009-05-07T08:50:33.376-07:00ARCHIVES
Click on the poster thumbnails to see the wall of jazz fame that has graced the stages of our Isle of Wight Jazz Festival every April here in Ventnor:

<img height="118" alt="Sax & Since then they have built quality archtop and acoustic guitars for world-renowned top brands such as Gretsch of Fender, Epiphone of Gibson, Alvarez of St Louis Music and many others with their high standards of quality. Chances are, if you have played a Fender, Gibson or Gretsch, you have already played a Peerless.

Peerless focus purely on quality and build less than 1,000 guitars a month so that they can maintain their high standards. All materials are sourced personally and every stage of the process is carried out in their own factory in Korea, quality checked there and once again when the guitars reach England. Therefore, if you see a Peerless and like playing it, buy it there and then because they are not so very easy to find and they are exceptional quality and value.

<img height="104" Although top line artists have been booked and all the necessary arrangements are in place to ensure a safe venue and least impact on Bonchurch, the worsening of the downturn in the economy since November 2008 means that the number of sponsorships, that are required, have not been forthcoming. Having explored all options it has been decided that it is in the best interests of live jazz, the Jazz Festival and the Island’s reputation for music, if the Jazz Festival is deferred until the weekend 9-10-11 April in 2010.
We realise that a lot of people will be disappointed but in the current economic climate we cannot be confident that the usual late ticket sales, upon which all ventures of this type rely, will materialise.
