I crocheted first, since I was 14 years old. I have made only one crocheted scarf this last year, but will probably make more things next year.<br /><br />This video is FUNNY.<br /><br /><object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/JZcUjYpjKZs&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/JZcUjYpjKZs&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4620127035921122054-8428191375243402366?l=cmr.webdiosa.com%2Fcrobinitter'/></div>christen robertshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14855470558173991381noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4620127035921122054.post-4733926699686348442007-12-13T11:13:00.001-08:002007-12-13T11:24:46.231-08:00Knittins' Happenin'I have some things to note.<br /><br />1) I was doing YO's completely wrong. I was just wrapping the yarn over the needle from back to front and carrying on. Thus, on the next row, the only way I could get a proper hole was to knit through the back leg. Though this created a hole, it still looked wonky.<br /><br />2) I was doing my ssk's the proper way, but have begun my project with the ssk as slip 1 knit wise, slip 1 purlwise, knit both together. Now I have great looking ssk's thanks to the fine crowd at Ravelry.<br /><br />The result is my new version of Oriel. The picture below is not blocked, but I will later post the swatch I made before implementing the above-mentioned improvements. (Note my BRAND SPANKIN' NEW Harmony options!)<br /><br /><a href="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2356/2109323774_4acd856f4c.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px;" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2356/2109323774_4acd856f4c.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br />Also in progress are the socks I'm making for Charles for Christmas (dumb to mention it in a public forum, but he's no dummy). Made from some cool wool with which I also made a Calorimetry (not pictured yet).<br /><br /><a href="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2357/2108558401_e431de1935.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px;" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2357/2108558401_e431de1935.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br />The colors are very washed out. The Oriel is made with a heathery brown/gray alpaca I got at Rhinebeck's Sheep and Wool. The other is from a yarn store in Gettysburg. A nice rich tweedy heathery green (but not tweed). I'll get my camera cable soon so I can say bye to these phone pics. Sorry!<br /><br />My thanks to Ravelry - and phone-image-emailing to Flickr.<br /><br />I must get to work before I get my ass whooped.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4620127035921122054-473392669968634844?l=cmr.webdiosa.com%2Fcrobinitter'/></div>christen robertshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14855470558173991381noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4620127035921122054.post-10979495728368375912007-12-05T09:36:00.000-08:002007-12-11T09:38:18.298-08:00WIP WednesdayThe first snow in Baltimore! Winter feels so fresh to me. I love it.<br /><br />Some works-in-progress and FOs. The first FO was a scarf I made for Charles out of Malabrigo. It's a very pretty mustard/sunrise color, but I have yet to take a picture. He insisted on wearing it right away, so there goes the Christmas surprise. I therefore started a new project with the intent of making it a complete surprise, from yarn to color to purpose. Wouldn't you know it though? I said "See, this is why I'm not working on the sock..." when he kept walking in on me without announcing himself. So my big impulsive mouth gave it away. But I still have yarn and color working for me. :)<br /><br />I'm still working on my socks with the Eye-of-Partridge heel. Since those are for me , they will remain on the back burner. <br /><br /><center><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2098/2019471181_8f507aad52.jpg"></center><br />I did, however, finish some wristwarmers, made out of Malabrigo as well, but a color I picked for me - pretty pink.<br /><br /><center><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2093/2087225688_70be9083cd.jpg"></center><br />I started a <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/heroes-illusion-scarf">Heroes illusion scarf</a> (Ravelry link), made by gradskoolknitter in Ravelry. I'm a test knitter and have to finish this baby!<br /><br /><center><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2133/2069051494_496f40b782.jpg"></center><br />And I still have to finish the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/brea-bag">Brea bag</a> that I'm making for Leslie. My sister-in-law wants one as well. The first side took me about 4 hours, so the next should be easier because I'm more familiar with cables than I was when I started.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2222/1799838531_eb27e19534.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px;" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2222/1799838531_eb27e19534.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br />I'm also working on a pink garter-stitch poncho for my niece and ... well. That's enough, isn't it?<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4620127035921122054-1097949572836837591?l=cmr.webdiosa.com%2Fcrobinitter'/></div>christen robertshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14855470558173991381noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4620127035921122054.post-37962461005401252982007-11-07T07:40:00.000-08:002007-11-07T07:45:23.821-08:00Gift Package!I'm sure I can find the name of this self-striping sock yarn with a little searching. I got it from Total Crafts before I even know how to knit (I was only crocheting then) and was disappointed to find that it wasn't really striping nicely when I crocheted. But I knew nothing about the "mechanics" so ...<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2368/1897795727_e16a487f7f.jpg?v=0"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px;" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2368/1897795727_e16a487f7f.jpg?v=0" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br />I started these in August as my first pair of socks, but got pretty confused (had to look up the definition of "gusset" in the dictionary) and finally put them down to start anew with Koigu socks for my boyfriend-cum-fiance (while in the making of the socks, he graduated from boyfriend to fiance).<br /><br />Then my sister had a baby so I finished the socks to send to her as well as a small baby hat. These will be sent with the Breeze socks for Joey and two ballband dishcloths. <br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2085/1810215002_0ac719c7f9.jpg?v=0"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px;" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2085/1810215002_0ac719c7f9.jpg?v=0" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2041/1801820025_2c6840ae37.jpg?v=0"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px;" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2041/1801820025_2c6840ae37.jpg?v=0" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br />I'll make my other niece a poncho and send it later. It's a declaration of obsession, love, passion and yarn. But I have stalled. I have stalled in many things. My <a href="http://email_christen.livejournal.com">livejournal</a> has been neglected for quite some time as has my <a href="http://cmr.webdiosa.com/reading">reading and read</a> page, for which I was most proud (I should update that quickly). <br /><br />But even though I read a lot (and need to add about 10 reviews since my last post) and even though I websurf a lot, I admit with some embarrassment that I'd give up a few hours of those things just to knit. <br /><br />Since the inception of <a href="http://www.ravelry.com">Ravelry</a>, my desire to blog about knitting has grown. I imagine it will be filled with the same stuff day after day. "I love knitting. Knitting is fun. Oooh. Yarn!" But hopefully I can offer more since I also want to show off the latest finished object (FO for the knitting-unaware) and WIPs (works-in-progress). <br /><br />Hold on to your caps. It's knittin' time.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4620127035921122054-2338269197053093682?l=cmr.webdiosa.com%2Fcrobinitter'/></div>christen robertshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14855470558173991381noreply@blogger.com0
