Finally I had the chance to post some of my new artworks. I was experimenting with new mediums beside graphite: charcoal and ink.

"Where I want to rest" - 24"x24" charcoal, acrylic on stained wood.

"Murder of crows" - ink drawing on reclaimed barn wood

"Crow" - ink drawing on reclaimed barn wood

"Night Journey" - charcoal on stained wood. Gracefully hanging from the drawing is a white piece of silk that has drawn on it an anatomical heart. 24"x24"

First one from the series: "Jacob's fight with the angel" - charcoal drawing on wood panel, 12"x12"

"To all new arrivals Welcome. A number has been established for you" - graphite and plaster on wood, 24"x24"

Vissual Essay on Walt Whitman's...

One of my installations for my new exhibit at the W. Bonifas Arts center in Escanba, MI, is an installation on a beautiful fragment from Leaves of Grass, Walt Whitman.
It regards this following fragment:

"As God comes a loving bed-fellow and sleeps at my side all night and close on the peep of the day,
And leaves for me baskets covered with white towels bulging the house with their plenty. "

It is such a beautiful view of God as a close good friend - I was truly moved...and as I read this, it already generated images in my mind and this is what I saw:

The wing is hand made. I built it on a metal structure/skeleton and added the feathers, gluing them one by one. The chair I found at a local antiques shop and the 3 baskets filled with white towels are the best part. Also on the floor are 2 pillows, one has imprinted one of my wing drawings and the second pillow has imprinted the above mentioned fragment from Leaves of Grass.
I really had a great time putting this installation together.

Personal Jesus

These small crucifixions made out of clay are part of my interactive installation for the upcoming solo show at W. Bonifas Arts Center opening April 2. The installation is entitled "Personal Jesus". They will be displayed on a bench under my large crucifixion graphite drawing (images coming soon). Everybody will be able to take a crucifix, therefore the personal Jesus.I will post more images with the finished piece.The small clay crucifixes will be fired and I will try to make around 200 of them. My husband, Nathan and fellow artists Ryan Brayak and Pasqua Warstler are helping me with the production.I am so excited about this project - really looking forward to finalize it!

New show coming up!

I am getting ready for my new solo show that will open April 2nd at the W. Bonifas Art center in Escanaba, MI. I will have lots of new pieces to post, but many of them are in works.
I am very excited about the new pieces I'm working on - for some of them it seems that I have waited a life time to make them... this must be the right time, I guess.
Below is an initial stage of the Annunciatory Angel, study after Fra Angelico.

Yup, most of the time....

Not really :-) she lets me work from time to time...
But the mornings are nice and cozy with the snuggle bug.

And some mornings are just right to take pictures...
if we find a patch of sun in this cold winter.

greeting cards

I wanted to make greeting cards for a long time but I was always putting it off... Finally I got to play with some elements from my drawings and photography and I made a series of cards. I will probably make more now that I opened the door.

I bring you with much joy the new series of ACEO's (Art Cards, Editions and Original). These miniature artworks are the size of a trading or playing card (2.5 x 3.5 in 6.4 x 8.9 cm) and such a great way to acquire originals at a very affordable price (some of mine start at $8)

I also recently purchased online some ACEO's from different artists - i was awaiting with such excitement the arrival of the new treasures in the mail - and yes it was worth it, they are great, so small, so intimate - it is really a very different experience compared to a larger piece of art.

Well, I am being very quiet because I was quite in a few shows for the past couple of months and I am having my last show for the year this weekend - it is the Christmas craft show in marquette, MI...and finally I will be able to get some sleep!
I've been very productive these past months and I have a lot of artworks to put on the web site.

In the meantime I am having a very good time being on Etsy.com - lots of good art.

I will be making ATC's or ACEO's...I will totally enjoy making this little pieces of artwork. Can't wait to start working on that next week.
Well this is the excitement in my life right now...and of course to not forget my little monster, Isabela (she is very sweet actually).

Holiday Arts Fair in Escanaba

This past Saturday, Nov. 1, I participated in Holiday Arts Fair in Escanaba. We had a good time, and I had the chance of presenting my new very small artworks made on small wood blocks- between 1.5 and 2.5 in.
They make great gifts and they are so precious because of their size. I really enjoy making them. Can't wait to get back in the studio and work on some more pieces!

Opening reception at Vertin Gallery

We just got back from Calumet - last night was the opening reception for my solo show at Vertin gallery. It was a very nice reception- we had a great crowd, many artists and a very gracious host - Kerri Corser, the gallery director.

The Exhibit at Vertin

The opening reception is on the 17th of October - we're looking forward to it! I think we'll be taking little Isabela with, hope she's going to tolerate the 3 hour ride.
I'll post more pictures from the reception.
So far the exhibit went well, I sold 4 pieces, which is exciting and very helpful now that I'm home with Isabela and just concentrating on art with no other sources of income.

On the 10th we headed up to Vertin Gallery in Calumet, MI to bring my artworks for the show.

Wow, this summer just flew by - thanks to Isabela :-)
Even though being mostly home with the little one might seem monotonous, the days are going by so fast... this time is rewarding in different ways.

I got the chance of working on some artwork though, not a lot but enough to keep me on the tracks of normality - I've been experimenting a lot with encaustics. I made a whole batch of very small pieces - up to 3 inches.

Also I'm starting some bigger pieces 8"x8" encaustics and mixed media.

My next pieces will be drawings, probably on the themes of Jacob's Ladder and Jacob's fight with the angel - for which I did dome photo studies already (i have them in the photo section here and here)

During this summer I took many photographs, but I didn't have the chance of posting them, not even on my website. Hope I will find some time soon.
I am also getting ready for my solo show at Vertin gallery - Calumet, MI, which will be in October and other group shows in the fall and winter months.

Waterfront Art Festival

The Waterfront Art Festival is a small outdoor artshow here in Escanaba, Mi. I'm trying to participate every summer- being local it is very convenient and we are always having a great time.
This year it was more difficult to get ready for it with the the little baby, but we made it.
The majority of my work was mixed media, a combination - lino cuts, encaustic, collage, painting and drawing.
I also presented my latest jewelry, note cards, prints and tiles.
The tiles were my latest addition - I experimented with transfers, painting and printmaking on tiles. They can be used as wall art, coasters or accent tiles.

Welcome baby Isabela!

Baby Isabela was born on June 24th at 5:48 pm. She is a handful - artwork will have to wait for a few weeks. :-)
