Hello!
Right, I mentioned in my last post about hibernation, and its that time I'm afraid. I'm going away to Costa Rica for 5 weeks and wont be back until the end of August (29th)

But its okay, in terms of the Whoniverse, there isn't much to cover anyway:

There are the special Doctor Who proms on July 27th
The next Doctor Who episode is the Xmas one
Theres no filming until January

The only new things that will arise may be more rumors about the specials, and general cover on the media side of Doctor Who

So, if you want to keep up to date with all the Whoness, then I suggest these sites:

The Doctor Who Forum - easily the best place for whoness since it covers everything. All you need to do is register and theres everything you need.
Blogtor Who - Cameron does a fantastic job keeping up with all the news and whatnot, plus he has pretty picture and clever wit as well.
Life the Universe and Combom - Definitely a fun place to visit, got lots of random Who stuff, plus crazy speculation and general joy.

PlanetGallifreyTV will remain active!

Since its got other Admins, rather than just me, then there will continue to be updates. Its here that Mac will cover anything he hears about the Sarah-Jane Adventures as well.

In terms of classic Who episodes another great site to visit is YouWhoTube, which brilliantly archiving all the old episodes.

First weekend with no Who... strange aye?
Ha, and no updates for a week either. Sorry, my fault, life keeps getting in the way of things and its very unstable at the moment.

Anywho! Thanks to the wonderful people on the DWF I present you with the most recently updated info on whats happening in Whodom.

2009 SPECIALS AND SERIES 5

Filming Schedule:
Filming has wrapped for the 2008 Christmas special. Filming for the 2009 specials will commence in January 2009 (Tennant will begin filming on the 9th Jan) with the filming for series 5 starting later that Spring.

Format
The Christmas Special for 2008 has already been filmed. In 2009 there will be either three or four hour-long specials, one of which will broadcast at Easter and another of which will broadcast on Christmas 2009. Two will be written by RTD, and the rest will be co-written by him

And as for how many specials there are:
Three specials were mentioned in the original press release. DT confirmed four on the Andrew Marr show. DWM 397 also confirmed four specials for 2009. The Guardian said there were five in total. The latest information from Julie Gardner mentions four specials (including Christmas 2008) then mentions DT coming back to film them.

Speculation:
One of the Specials may be taking place partially or entirely in a location outside the UK.

For the Christmas Special:
Many have speculated this is based on the audio "The One Doctor" - according to "very good, close sources", this episode is indeed based on that audio, and is a light comedy after the tearjerker of the finale. DM is the fake Doctor, and the Cybershades are fakes made by Morrissey's character, only for the real Cybermen (and the real Doctor) to show up...

Casting

Ace (Sophie Aldred)
McGann rumoured to return in the second 2009 special, in an episode directed by Graham Harper (heard by a few people but apparently the "latest sources" say this is not happening)
Brian Blessed may make his return to the show
Agynes Deyn is reported as being in one of the specials.
Rumour on IMDB that Bad Girls star Alicia Eyo has been offered a companion role for one of the specials; a role that may play into full-time companion for series 5
John Simm - instead of a small cameo in series 4, plans were changed to bring the Master in a much bigger way in the specials
Georgia Moffet may also be returning as Jenny.

Heroes and Villains

Sea Devils. "The return of The Sea Devils is definitely planned and all preliminary work has long since been concluded."
Winston Churchill (for specials or series 5) - reputedly TV people asked for his removal from "Revenge of the Judoon" so he could be kept in reserve.
According to Julie Gardner, characters and storylines from last series will not necessarily be picked up for the specials

SERIES 5

RTD is leaving and Moffat taking over for series 5. It'll be back to the original 13 episodes format. As for writers of the episodes, there are rumours abound that Neil Gaiman and Rob Shearman may be writing episodes for series 5

When asked what he knew about the rumour Rob Shearman replied "Only that it's news to me!"

Gaiman says on his blog that Gaiman HAS had dinner with the Moff but "if it ever gets to the point where I know that I'm actually, definitely, for certain, writing an episode of Doctor Who, I'll post it here. In big red letters. Or green. You'll know when it happens, trust me."

According to DWM, apparently "THEY'RE BACK"
Although we don't actually know what or who "They" are.

The Doctor
RTD refuses to say whether Tennant will return for series 5. RTD says he "knows when David is leaving..." DT has made his decision and the BBC knows what it is. He then went on to say that he blatantly lies about the future of Doctor Who....

According to the Sun, DT will leave after the four specials "and a movie"

A rumour from "a fairly good source" says that Andy Pryor has cast DT's replacement. There was a short list of names - including one woman. The rumour also suggested DT would not be in all specials...

There is also a rumour that the last special is being filmed with two endings to allow DT maximum time to consider his return (they did this for Parting of the Ways as well)

I've never before made such a strange high pitched noise when we had the Bad Wolf Bay scene... madness! This may well be considered the ultimate in Doctor Who episode thats been so far... Journey's End has come and gone!

And everythings was pretty much resolved: Regenerations, double Doctors, Davros, Daleks, Caan, the Darkness, Rose's world hopping, who or what the hell Donna really is, a companions death, reinstalling the Earth, saving the universe.

There were no real explanations for Bad Wolf though... and there wasn't really a death, was there? Would the fate of Donna be considered a death? I suppose in a way...

I haven't found the whole episode yet, but for now heres a mini segment of it for you. They be talking about regenerations and whatnot.

As some of you have said, there are no new Doctor scenes, but that makes perfect sense to me. If he was regenerating, would you really ruin the suspense of what (or who) he was regenerating into?

Hooray!
Blue Peter had a special Doctor Who show where one of the team (Gethin) got to be a Dalek for a while, and they showed a clip from Journey's End!

This is Sarah-Jane, Jackie and Mickey as prisoners aboard the Crucible!

Journey's End will be a whopping 65 minutes long and jam packed full of squeetastic goodness!

And, for those who are interested, this is how Gethin got on when he became a Dalek... not the best quality, sorry.

Did you notice the tiny tiny scene at the beginning where Jack was lying on the floor and bathed in red light? Looks to me like he'd just come back from the dead. As he does.

The Time War was 'time locked', or so thought The Doctor.
Apparently yes. "time locked" is the same idea as things being fixed, or in flux (like the fate of Pompeii) And it was thought that the Time War was fixed as well... but thats apparently not going to stop Caan finding a way to change it, and stop Davros getting killed.

I liked it muchly. Love all the references to Sarah-Jane, Martha and Torchwood. Don't we all need the Doctor so much!

Journey's End

The entire universe is in danger as the Daleks activate their masterplan. The Doctor is helpless, and even the Tardis faces destruction. The only hope lies with the Doctor's secret army of companions – but as they join forces to battle Davros himself, the prophecy declares that one of them will die.

The true mastermind of the ill fate that happens to Donna in this episode will be familiar to fans of one of the Doctor Who spinoff shows.
There is a throwaway line at the end of the episode that relates the Time Beetle to the Trickster (from SJA)

Oliver Morgenstern from 'Smith And Jones' is back and in fine form.

Donna suggests that footage of a Titanic replica spaceship flying towards Buckingham Palace is actually from a sequel to the famous Leonardo DiCaprio/Kate Winslet film.
Most probably, since the Titanic crashes into Buckingham and wipes out South England.

There's a Wayne's World moment where Donna and Wilf sing Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody'.
There's a possible hint to this happening in the Fear Forcast, as one of the boys begins to sing.

Rose Tyler tells Donna that The Darkness is coming. Donna tells her that she saw them live in 2004 and they only had one good song.
Don't know about Donna's snappy reply, but Rose definitely talks of the coming dark.

From set reports, yup, this is true.

Mr Chaudhary's wandering hands cause Donna some consternation.

Rose tells Donna two vital words to pass onto The Doctor. The first one is a name of an old enemy last seen in an escape pod. The second is "lives".
This apparently happens at the end of the Stolen Earth... old enemy in space pod be Davros, and the second one be about a certain other Time Lord who is still alive.

Donna has a beetle on her back and soon Wilf finds antlers on his head too.
Well, Donna definitely has a beetle on her back. Tis a time beetle that she picked up in a carnival on Shan Shen.

Well, Midnight hasl hit our TV screens with a loud whumph of excitement. Why is it a whumph? I have no idea... I just like the word.

Anyway, this episode was most definitely dark, claustrophobic and intense, exploring the true side of human behavior under extreme fear and pressure.

In my personal opinion, it was the most disturbing and frightening episode I've ever seen. More so than Blink or any other scary episode you care to think of.

And Rose did indeed make a wee appearance! And it was so agonizingly missed by the Doctor as well... shame!

Plus, there was also mention of the Medusa Cascade, which we haven't had in a while. Maybe its still got some importance in the final 3 episodes.
