Brad D. Reetz, 39, of Floyd died Saturday evening, October 10, 2009, at his home in Floyd.

Funeral services for Brad Reetz will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd. Pastor Jan Tjaden will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Floyd.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation will continue an hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.

Bradley Dean Reetz was born October 1, 1970, at Charles City, the son of Carlton and Muriel (Johnson) Reetz, Jr. He attended the Cresco High School. On May 18, 1991, he was united in marriage to Lauri Schriever at the Lutheran Church in Elma. Brad was employed at Featherlite Trailers for five years as a paint booth foreman. He was a life-time member of the North American Hunting Club. His interests included fishing, hunting, trapping, four-wheeling, cutting firewood and spending time with his grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Living family members include his wife, Lauri Reetz of Floyd; two sons, Benjamin Reetz of Floyd and Brandon (Jessica) Gates of Charles City; two grandchildren, Talan and Liam Gates; mother, Muriel Reetz of Elma; two sisters, Deanna Titus of Elma and LeAnn (Dave) Durnan of New Hampton; two brothers, Mike (Jodi) Reetz of Charles City and Stacy (Jen) Reetz of Milwaukee, Wis.; many aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; father; and grandson, Ethan Gates.

Ronald Staudt 67, of Charles City, died Saturday, October 10, 2009, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City after a seven year battle with cancer.

A funeral Mass for Ronald Staudt will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Monsignor Stanley Hayek will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday where there will be a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service at 7 p.m.

Ronald Earl Staudt was born April 20, 1942, in Floyd County, the son of Earl and Dorothy (Schmitt) Staudt. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School at Roseville and graduated from Rockford High School in 1960. On September 4, 1965, he was united in marriage to Mona Riden at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Roseville. They farmed all their lives south of Charles City. Ronald was a steward of the earth, enjoying both grain and livestock farming. He always took great pride in the fact that he supported his family through the family farm. Ronald will always be remembered as a person that appreciated having a well kept farm. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Elks Lodge, where he was a trustee for several years, served on both the Charles City and Immaculate Conception School school boards, and on the board of directors of the Colwell Coop. His interests included woodworking, golfing, bowling, boating, fishing and playing cards. Family, especially his grandchildren, was always important to Ronald and he took every opportunity possible to share his life with them and be a part of everything they were doing.

Living family members include his wife, Mona Staudt of Charles City; four children, Douglas (Susan) Staudt of Cedar Falls, Steven (Nikki) Staudt of Forest City, Charles (Angie) Staudt of Charles City and Renee (Brody) Boss of Charles City; 11 grandchildren, Alexander, William, and Isabelle Staudt, Jake, Abbey, and Gabe Staudt, Drew, Lydia and Lauren Staudt and Margaret and Madeline Boss; his mother, Dorothy Staudt of Charles City; a brother, Roger (Bonita) Staudt of Marble Rock; three sisters, Catherine (I. John) Rossi of West Des Moines, Marlys Staudt of Knoxville, Tenn. and Karen Trettin of Charles City; his mother-in-law, Margaret Riden of Charles City; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Kenneth in infancy; a brother-in-law, Michael Trettin; and his father-in-law, Floyd Riden.

Julie Idler Rice, 58, of Scottsdale, Ariz., died Thursday, October 8, 2009, at her home in Scottsdale, Ariz., following a battle with cancer.

Funeral services for Julie Rice will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua.

Julie Rae Idler was born September 15, 1951, at Charles City, the daughter of Leighton and Verna (Klinehart) Idler. She graduated from the Charles City High School in 1969. After graduating from Mankato Commercial College, she was employed at University Hospitals in Iowa City as a secretary in the radiology department, where she met her husband, Dr. Alfred Rice. They married on May 27, 1972, at the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. Julie enjoyed tennis, her tape ministry, traveling, jigsaw puzzles, knitting booties for a crisis pregnancy center, and many other hand working projects. She was a member of the Scottsdale Bible Church.

Living family members include her husband Alfred Rice of Scottsdale, Ariz.; mother, Verna Gray of Charles City; sister, Connie (Frank) Francis of Clare; two nieces, Tracy Reitmeier of Cedar Rapids and Rebecca Reitmeier of Mission Viejo, Calif.; and step-sister, Jean (Bob) Bennett of Storm Lake.

She was preceded in death by her father; grandparents, Ernest and Martha Klinehart and Ed and Maude Otto; and nephew, Gerald M. White.

Richard A. Tynan, Sr., 61, of Rockford, died Thursday, October 8, 2009, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Richard Allan Tynan, Sr. was born July 1, 1948, at Charles City, the son of Leo and Barbara (Nelson) Tynan. He graduated from the Council Bluff School for the deaf. On December 15, 1973, he was united in marriage to Diane McDonald in Cedar Rapids. Richard was employed at Allied Construction for over 30 years. After retirement he worked part-time on the night shift at Wal-Mart. He was a member of the Iowa Deaf Club and the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. His interests included side jobs, fishing, hunting, camping, fixing things, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Living family members include his two children, Richard Tynan, Jr. of Mason City and Racheal (Jeremiah) Ferch of New Hampton; seven grandchildren, Mercedes and Lexus Tynan, Cole, Chelsea, Justice, J.J. and Jesup Ferch; special friend, Patty Mathis of Waukon; many cousins, including Denny Tynan; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Dale William Cummings was born May 2, 1914, at Bassett, the son of Jesse and Pearl (Bonsall) Cummings. He graduated from the Colwell High School in 1933. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Manning. Dale was employed at Hart Par/Oliver Corporation for 44 years as a machine operator and assembly person. He was a member of the NRA, Floyd Gun Club and Floyd Lions Club where he served as past president. His interests included trap shooting, hunting, fishing and work.

Living family members include his two daughters, Sharon (Edgar) Immer of Burnsville, Minn. and Kathy (Steven) Anderson of Minneapolis, Minn.; two step-daughters, Beverly (George) Pospisil of Lisbon and Sharon (Richard) Hill of Angel Fire, N.M.; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; seven step-great grandchildren; sister, Mary Manning of Charles City; sister-in-law, Wanda Cummings of Charles City; and several nieces and nephews.

Violette M. Thompson-Rickerl, 77, of Charles City, died Monday morning, October 5, 2009, at the Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.

Memorial services for Violette Thompson-Rickerl will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. Pastor David Werges and Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate. Inurnment will be in Concord Cemetery, Garner.

Violette Mae Eisberg was born January 29, 1932, at Salisbury, Mo., the daughter of Walter R. and Amanda (Jass) Eisberg. She graduated from the Garner High School in 1949. On January 2, 1951, she married Arnold Pearson at Garner. They later divorced. On May 28, 1978, Violette married Leon Thompson at Mason City. Leon died in May of 1995. On January 3, 1998, she was united in marriage to Herman Rickerl at Charles City. Violette and Herman’s marriage was blessed by a Catholic Priest in Leroy, Minn. on January 10, 1998. She was a farmer’s wife for 23 years, secretary and bookkeeper at Cerro Gordo County Farm Bureau, Hancock County ASCA Office, and bookkeeper for Thompson Mobile Service in Charles City. Violette was a 4-H leader for 9 years, Sunday school teacher, Hospice volunteer, Food Box volunteer and a Pink Lady at the Floyd County Medical Center. She was a member of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City Women’s Club and the Hoe Garden Club. Her interests include playing in 500 marathons, arranging flowers, gardening and reading books. Violette’s favorite saying was, “To accept everyone as they are, not as they were yesterday or as they will be tomorrow, but as they are today.”

Living family members include her husband Herman Rickerl of Charles City; three children, Ellen Olson of Ames, Jeanne Carls of Coon Rapids, Minn. and William Pearson of Peoria, Ill.; eight step-children, Carmine (Dean) Swenson, Loren (Penny) Rickerl, Janelle (Gary) Sunnes all of Riceville, Karen (Larry) Smith of Broomfield, Colo., Marlin (Jan) Thompson of Harlan, Marlys (Frank) Nockels of Arvada, Colo., Paula Schwab of Fort Collins, Colo. and Jeffery Thompson, Sr. of Sun Prairie, Wis.; four grandchildren, Amanda (Tony) DeGrote, Andrew (Mary Anna) Carls, Ben (Stephanie) Olson and Sarah Olson; 24 step-grandchildren; four great grandchildren, Blake DeGrote, Tyanna Medrud, Kaleb Carls and Jack Carls; and several step-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leon Thompson; one step-granddaughter; and one step-great granddaughter.

Milo “Mike” Schwarck, 87, of Charles City, died Sunday, October 4, 2009, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services for Mike Schwarck will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Colwell United Church of Christ in Colwell. Pastor Debra Lincoln will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Milo Ray Schwarck was born April 12, 1922, in Grundy County, the son of Alonzo and Ada (Smith) Schwarck. After his father’s death, when Mike was twelve, he and his brothers took over the farming operation. Mike graduated from Whitten High School in 1941. He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. While serving in Italy he was injured and spent the remainder of his time in the hospital at Salt Lake City, Utah. On March 4, 1945, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Schuler. After his discharge Mike returned to Grundy County and farming. In 1956 they moved to Mitchell County where they had purchased a farm and where they would remain until retirement. On October 8, 1994, Lorraine died. Mike married Betty Woelfer Frankenfield on June 29, 1996. He was a member of the Colwell United Church of Christ, V.F.W. and had served as president of the Mitchell County Farm Bureau and chairman of the township ASC. His interests included fishing and playing cards. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor.

Living family members include his wife, Betty Schwarck of Charles City; 3 daughters, Jeanine (Gordon) Lockie of Elma, Christine (Gregory) Pitts of Elk Grove, Calif. and Korine Winders of Charles City; 9 grandchildren, Andrew (Melissa) Lockie, Erin (Mike) Shea, Michael Lockie and special friend Amy Rausch, Rachel (Nick) Boyle, Tammy (Barry) Smith, Jason (Jamie) Pitts, Daron (Melissa) Pitts, Adria (Joe) Pierce and Amanda Scheffert and special friend Brian Englehardt; 12 great grandchildren; five brothers, Dale (Margery) Schwarck of Eldora, Victor (Mona) Schwarck of Union, Donald (Norma) Schwarck, Paul (Catherine) Schwarck and Carl (Joan) Schwarck all of Marshalltown; and two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Schwarck of Union and Evelyn Schwarck of Eldora.

Wilbur Robert Daake was born October 12, 1913, on the Daake family farm in Floyd County, the son of Adolph and Martha (Schmidt) Daake. He graduated from the Charles City High School. On May 29, 1940, he was united in marriage to Edna Colwell at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed all their lives on the Daake family farm. Wilbur was a member of the Flood Creek/West St. Charles United Methodist Church and the Knights of Pythias. His primary interests were any that included family, fishing, golfing, playing cards and traveling. At home Wilbur enjoyed watching baseball and playing solitaire.

Living family members include a son, Dennis Daake of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two granddaughters, Samantha Daake and Jeanette (Chris) Illingworth; and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a brother, Reuben Daake; and two sisters, Mildred Kielsmeier and Elsie Marth.

Edmund C. Gleason, Sr., 86, of Charles City, died Friday evening, September 25, 2009, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Edmund Charles Gleason was born August 12, 1923 to Raymond Sr. and Mina (Olsen) Gleason in Ruthven, Iowa. He graduated from Ruthven High School in 1940, attended Wofford University in South Carolina and served with the 1258th Engineer Combat Battalion in WWII Germany and at the Battle of the Bulge. He moved to Charles City in 1946 and on January 4, 1947, he married Margaret “Peggy” Gilbaugh. He was a Product Engineer at Oliver (later White Farm Equipment) for over 35 years. He was a member of the VFW, Knights of Columbus, Wildwood Golf Course and Moose Lodge. He loved golfing, dancing, bowling, reading, fishing and his family.

Survivors include his wife Peggy; children Vicki (Roger) Clemons, Waterloo, IA, Larry Gleason (Valerie Williams), Ames, IA, Julie (Mike) Sherraden, Kingwood, TX, Steve (Barb) Gleason, Charles City, IA, Diane (Duane) White, Waverly, IA and Edmund Jr. “Ned” Gleason, Charles City, IA; brother and sisters Maureen Weir, Ruthven, IA, Tom Gleason, Pleasanton, CA, Mary Beth “Betty” Grady, Lynwood, WA; sister-in-law Helen (Lloyd) Rekow, Seattle, WA; 9 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 3 step-great grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson and numerous nephews and nieces.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Frank, Joseph and Raymond Jr.

Phyllis Joann Scheidegger was born October 4, 1933, in Worth County, the daughter, of Chester and Viola (Olson) Scheidegger. She moved with her parents in 1933 to Mitchell County, nine miles west and two and half miles south of Osage. She graduated from the St. Ansgar High School in 1952. Phyllis was baptized and confirmed at the St. John Lutheran Church near her home. In 1953, she married Howard Bettesworth. They lived around Charles City. In 1978, they divorced. Phyllis worked outside on the farm most of her life while also working in nursing homes. In 1993, she retired from Faith Nursing Home in Osage. In 1981, Phyllis married Kenneth Berry. She was a member of the Son’s of Norway. Her interests included flowers, animals, outdoors and loved impatiens.

Living family members include her three children, daughter, Victoria Ries of Belvidere, Ill.; Vincent (Ann) Bettesworth of Charles City and Virginia (Dennis) Tynan of Charles City; and six granddaughters, Hope (Tom) Polak of Rockford, Ill., Stacy, Amy, Kelly Tynan, Morgan and Brandy Bettesworth all of Charles City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth; a great grandson; and a special friend, Lester Selvig.

Eva Mary Roethler was born June 12, 1914, in rural Ionia, the daughter of Frank and Emma (Slack) Roethler. She graduated from the Ionia High School. On November 6, 1936, she was united in marriage to Glen Young at Charles City. Eva was a farm wife, while also working as a secretary for several local doctors in Charles City. She was a member of the Chickasaw County Historical Society, Rural Neighbors and was a 4-H leader for over 20 years. Her interests included flowers, gardening and sewing.

Living family members include her five children, Betty Attleson of Rochester, Minn., Donald (Julie) Young of Oakland, Nebr., Bill (Shirley) Young of Gladbrook, Richard (Kay) Young of Charles City and Mary (Joe) Koenigsfeld of Dakota City, Nebr.; 16 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; great-great granddaughter, Faith Eckenrod; and a brother, Charles Roethler.

Geraldine “Gerry” Knudsvig

Geraldine “Gerry” Knudsvig, 86, of Charles City, died Sunday, September 20, 2009, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Geraldine Eunice Bonfig Knudsvig was born April 30, 1923, at Ossian, the daughter of Albert and Catherine (Timp) Bonfig. She graduated from St. Francis De Sales in Ossian and Pitz’s Beauty School in Waterloo. On Octuber 20, 1945, she was united in marriage to Ernest Knudsvig at Saint Francis Catholic Church in Ossian. They moved to Charles City in 1948 where they owned a Beauty Salon for many years, enjoying working together. After they retired they would travel to Arizona to spend their winters. They loved to dance, and enjoyed fishing in Freeport, Minn., and on the Mississippi with friends. She also enjoyed playing all kinds of card games and golfing.

Survivors include two friends, known as “her girls” ; Lorna Berk and Liz (Richard) Dawson and their families both of Charles City; two nieces, Marlene (Virgel) Theisen and Shirley (Ron) Gansen; and a nephew, Ronnie (Maggie) Bonfig.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on May 4, 2002; and a brother.

Arthur “Art” Thoe, 84, of Allen, Texas, formerly of Charles City, died Saturday, September 19, 2009, at Presbyterian Hospital of Allen in Allen.

Arthur Morris Thoe was born April 14, 1925, in Mower County, Minn., the son of Selmer and Regina (Bolstad) Thoe. He received his education at Rockdale, Minn. Art proudly served in the United States Army during World War II having been stationed in Europe, France and Germany. On May 16, 1953, he was united in marriage to Doris Schwartz at Stewartville, Minn. In 1948 they moved to Charles City where Art worked for the Oliver Corporation, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the United Auto Workers.

Living family members include a daughter, Toni (Ron) Yantzi of Allen, Texas; two grandchildren, Daniel and Sarah Fischer; a brother, Donald (Aleta) Thoe of Lake City, Minn.; and two sisters, Ruth Maasch of Rochester, Minn. and Lois (John) Wilder of Phoenix, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert Alan Thoe; three brothers; and two sisters.

Duane Harold Ford was born February 25, 1934, at Charles City, the son of Harold and Berdie (Heath) Ford. He graduated from the Charles City High School. Duane proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. On May 29, 1954, he was united in marriage to Ester Shanks. Duane was a self employed painter that took great pride in his work and enjoyed making new acquaintances. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Nora Springs. His interests included hunting, fishing, camping, raising hunting dogs, dancing, singing and playing trumpet.

Living family members include three children, Darla (Terry) Drewelow of Parkersburg, Dana (Kayla) Ford of Gilbert, Ariz. and Deana (Dale) VerHelst of Creston; 7 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

Doris Bucknell Aird was born April 20, 1914, in Floyd County, the daughter of Arthur and Anna (Meek) Bucknell. She graduated in 1931 as valedictorian from the Floyd school. On October 16, 1935, she was united in marriage to John Aird at Charles City. For many years she was a housekeeper and for over 50 years she was self employed as a wallpaper hanger. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and helped prepare many meals that were served at the church over the years. Doris was also director of St. Charles #2 country school, member of the McKinley Home Craft, volunteered for both the Gray Ladies and Pink Ladies, and was a past Girl Scout leader. Her interests included vegetable and flower gardening, playing 500, horses especially the chuckwagon races, and cooking in both small and large quanities. Both Doris and John were avid sports fans following the Comettes softball team for many years. Doris was always very fond of children whether her own or others and enjoyed sharing her life with them.

Living family members include three children, Karla Breed of Marshalltown; Alan (Colleen) Aird and Andrew (Lori) Aird both of Charles City; seven grandchildren, Kristine (Philip) Does, Linda (Ron) Pexa, Aaron Aird, Anne Nelson, Angela Aird, Lisa Aird and Amy Aird; 13 great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Lois Waid of Floyd and Irma Kay of Manchester.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on July 3, 1999; two brothers, Loren and Cletus Bucknell; and two sisters, Iola Quimby and Elma Belknap.

Ronald Eugene Nehls was born June 11, 1930, at Charles City, the son of Frank and Irene (Hobert) Nehls. He graduated from the Charles City High School in 1949. Ronald served in the National Guard for many years. On September 6, 1953, he was united in marriage to Betty Bissonnette. During his career he was employed with V.F. Moltz, Hennickson Steel, Harvestore and Knutson Construction. He was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Elk’s Club. His interests included golfing, fishing, hunting and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes as one of their devoted fans. Ronald dearly loved his grandchildren and took every opportunity to share his life with them.

Isabelle Mae Symonds Dorwin was born April 21, 1913, at Charles City, the daughter of Frederick and Mabel (DeTienne) Symonds. She graduated from the Charles City High School in 1930. While in high school Isabelle took Normal Training classes that made her eligible to teach rural school which she did for 9 years. On July 19, 1941, she was united in marriage to Howard Dorwin at Mt. Vernon. While Howard was serving in the United States Army during World War II Isabelle worked for the government in Washington D.C. for several years. After Howard was discharged they made their home in Charles City and in 1963 they moved to a farm near Charles City where she lived until her death. She was a member of the First Congregational Church where she taught Sunday school for 9 years and was active in various groups including Women’s Fellowship and the Quilters. Isabelle was also a member of the Gray Ladies of the Red Cross and the Cedar Side Club. Her interests included flower gardening of which iris were her specialty, sewing, quilting and various other crafts, and reading.

Living family members include a daughter, Elaine (William) Mead of Charles City; two grandsons, Nicholas and Nathan Mead of Charles City; a brother, Ralph (Vivian) Symonds of Nashua; and a sister, Margaret Druehl of Charles City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on August 8, 1996; an infant son, Stanley Dorwin; and a brother, Melvin Symonds.

Mary was born on May 20, 1920 in Rockford, Iowa the daughter of Stanley Leon and Myrtle Pearl (Brown) Ruggles. She graduated from Rockford High School and Hamilton Business College in Mason City. She was engaged as a secretary for the Rationing Board in Charles City and then as secretary/bookkeeper at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Upon moving back to the area she worked for the state of Iowa in the department of Vocational Rehabilitation in Mason City until her retirement in 1969. She was an accomplished pianist and shared her talent with the Rockford United Methodist Church and the Naomi Woman’s Circle of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she was a member. She also served as the secretary of the Rockford Woman’s Club. She loved to bake pies and cakes, tending her flower gardens, and traveling. Her trips took her to Europe and Hawaii, also taking several bus trips and taking the Amtrak train out West.

Those thankful in sharing Mary’s life include her loving husband Edmund of 26 years, Tomah, WI, her three children Judith R. DuFault, Davenport, IA; Elizabeth (Libby) L. and her fiancé Leland Amaral, of Sparta, WI; Stanley D. and Mary Sherbino, of Winner, South Dakota; her blended children Linda Teschner, Merrill, WI; Peggy and her husband Rick Gremler, Brokaw, WI; Daniel Teschner, Wautoma, WI; Thomas and his wife Julie Teschner, Gleason, WI; and William Teschner, Merrill, WI; 19 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.

Her parents, two infant sisters, one infant son and one grandson Chad Teschner preceded Mary in death.

William Dennis Dunn was born March 3, 1947, at Charles City, the son of Franklin and Rose (Schmitt) Dunn. He attended Saint Williams School in Alta Vista and in 1970 graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in Des Moines. On August 7, 1965, he was united in marriage to Lucile Starr at Elma. Over the years he worked for John Deere, the Charles City Police Department and at NIACC. Bill was also proprietor of Dunn Photography for 30 years. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. His interests included collecting John Deere memorabilia and guns. Bills’s greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren. He took every opportunity to become involved in their activities and be a part of their lives.

On January 25, 1942, she was united in marriage to Melvin Meyer at Osage. Over the years Velva worked at Osage Produce, the Colwell School, 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home, Forest Lawn Cemetery, as a hostess at Hauser Funeral Home for several years and as a Foster Grandparent. She was a member of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eastern Star, V.F.W. Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and Women of the Moose.

Edward William Sonne was born May 10, 1919, at Charles City, the son of Harry and Clara (Armstrong) Sonne. He attended the Beckwith School. Edward proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II, serving on the USS Markab in the Pacific as a machinist. He received the Good Conduct Medal for his service. On July 10, 1948, he was united in marriage to Virginia Jaeger. To this union a son, Alan and a daughter, Nancy were born. Ed was a family man and worked as a farmer all his life. The family made their home near Bassett and farmed the Tolle farm. They moved to the Tolliver farm west of Charles City where they lived for 19 years. For two years they farmed the Bjelica farm, then purchased and moved to their most recent farm near the Cedar Ridge Golf Course. His wife, Virginia, died March 9, 1980, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Six years later, March 1, 1986, he married Edith Korinke. In addition to the crop farming, Edward milked a herd of Holstein dairy cows for many years. After the Holstein cows were sold, he raised Holstein calves to be sold as springing heifers. Most recently, they raised beef. Edward loved Belgian draft horses and looked forward to showing them at the 4-County fair in Nashua. He also enjoyed the Waverly Draft Horse sale every year and the friendships that he had developed over time with the Amish community near Hazelton. Edward and Edith participated in parades and enjoyed bluegrass music festivals in the area. He was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, the American Legion in Charles City, the V.F.W. in Nashua, Farm Bureau and Moose Lodge.

Living family members include his wife, Edith of Nashua; a daughter, Nancy (Mark) Scherer of Cambridge, Minn; three step children, Sandra (Jim) Lawrenz of Rockford, Jim (Karen) Korinke of Overland Park, Kans. and David Korinke of Nashua; three step granddaughters, Kelly (Lee) Whipple, Kerrie (Roni) Wyborny and Kristin Lawrenz; seven step great grandchildren; a sister, Ruby Jaeger of Charles City, two sisters-in-law, Madelyn Sonne of Nashua and Norma Jaeger of Charles City; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Sonne of Charles City; and several nieces and nephews.

Pearl Hazel Morgan was born May 29, 1924, at Lawton, Okla., the daughter of Ira and Elizabeth (Burnette) Morgan. On January 1, 1948, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Bode in Texas. During WWII, Pearl worked at the air craft factories to aid the war effort. Her interests included fishing and duck hunting with her husband, playing cards, taking walks in the mountains, picking wild flowers and Pinion` Nuts and spending time with her family.

Living family members include her four children, Helen (Rick) Winters of Ore., Larry (Collen) Colo., Roy Bode of Charles City and Gerald Bode of Colo.; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Juanita Cox of Big Bear, Calif. and Naomi Jetton of San Bernardino, Calif.; brother, Floyd Burnett of Lawton, Okla.; brother-in-law, Paul (Dixie) Bode of Osage; sister-in-law, Thelma Griggs of Sheridan, Wyo.; and many nieces and nephews.

Marguerite Lucile Peterson Curtis was born April 7, 1920, at Nashua, the daughter of Bartlett and Sarah (Hicks) Peterson. She graduated from Nashua High School in 1938. On April 2, 1939, she was united in marriage to Edward “Ted” Curtis at Charles City. Marguerite worked at the Oliver Corporation and when they purchased what would become Ted’s Auto Electric she was the secretary bookkeeper from 1962-1999. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Armstrong Circle, Soroptimists, Pythian Sisters and Charles City Women’s Club. Her interests included reading, and antiquing with her specialty being Fenton glassware and miniature oil lamps. Marguerite was a seamstress for many years, making draperies for Sylvester’s Furniture as well as doing alterations and sewing wedding gowns. She will also be remembered for the candy she made and gave as gifts, a tradition that has carried down to her grandson.

Living family members include two daughters, Sheila (Lewis) Wright of North Liberty and Terri (Paul) Kidd of La Jolla, Calif.; a grandson, Robert Kidd; and a son-in-law, Charles Greaser of Harleysville, Pa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Barbara Greaser; and three sisters, Geneva Sleeper, Bonnie Blanchard and Lillian Jacobs.
