First Aid Course

Bumblebees is having an in-house paediatric first aid course on Saturday 9th and 16th January (9am – 4pm) we are welcoming any parent who wish to join us for this course. The cost for this is £45.00 per person. We only have a few spaces left but if this is something that is popular we would look to rearrange more dates. Please can you let Faye or Gemma know asap.

Christmas

Over the next few weeks the children are going to be very busy with all their Christmas preparations. Individual room information will be sent out about the Christmas parties and play.

Children in Need

To help fund raise for Children in Need we will be having a Teddy Bears Picnic on Friday 20th November. If your child attends on this day please bring along their favourite bear to join in with the fun and games. All donations towards the charity are welcome and there will be a collection box in the front entrance all week if you wish to donate. Thank you.

Policy of the Month

As you are no doubt aware of recent events which have happened in a Plymouth Nursery recently surrounding child protection issues, this month we felt it necessary to share one of our staffing policies with you all to show how Bumblebees have always had a contractual agreement with all the staff which bans the use of mobile phones.

Photographer

Just a quick reminder that the Nursery photographer will be with us on Thursday 12th and Friday 13th November to take some lovely photographs of the children, please remember to dress your child in something bright and colourful.

If your child does not attend on a thur/fri please feel free to bring them for the drop in session on Friday morning between 9.30-11am, you are welcome to bring siblings along between these times too.

Christmas Eve

A few months ago we put in the newsletter about the possibility of opening on Christmas Eve. Due to the lack of demand for this session we have decided that we shall not be opening on Christmas Eve.

No Shoe Policy

Please can we remind you that Bumblebees operates a 'No Shoe Policy' where we require the children to change into slippers when they arrive.

As you change your childs footwear please can you place their outdoor shoes straight into their bag as they should not require these for the rest of the day as they wear their wellies in the garden. As you can imagine we have lots of slippers/wellies/ shoes here throughout the day so this should make it more manageable and also save you having to search for shoes when you arrive to collect your child.

We also ask for you to take all of your childs belongings home as their session finishes, so they are kept safe for their next session.

Christmas Raffle

As Christmas will be upon us before we know it we have attached raffl e tickets for you to have the chance to win some goodies in our Christmas raffle!

These tickets are 25p per ticket or £1 per strip, with the proceeds going towards new equipment for the nursery. You are more than welcome to sell these to friends, family and colleagues.

Should you require more tickets please feel free to ask a member of the team and please return any unsold tickets. Many thanks for your support.

Parent Visitors

A huge thank you to Ruths mum who came into the Pre School and gave a lovely talk all about being a doctor. All the children loved this and we really appreciated the talk. If anyone feels they would like to come in and share their job or an experience with the children please let us know as this is invaluable to the childrens learning.

Christmas Reminder

Please remember that we are considering opening on Thursday 24th December from 8am – 1pm. This is dependant on parental demand so if you do require childcare for that morning, please return your slip attached to the newsletter ASAP.

Nursery Photos

Its that time of year again when Gavin will be returning to take the Christmas pictures. He will be here on Thursday 12th and Friday 13th November. If your child does not attend on these days and you would like to have a picture taken, further details of the drop in session for this will be posted on the front door nearer the time. Siblings are also welcome for this. Please remember to dress your child in something bright and colourful!

Food

Bumblebees work really hard on ensuring throughout the day the children have a varied diet. Please can we ask all parents not to bring in food from home for your children. This causes a problem with risk assessing the food as we do have a number of children with allergies and it poses a huge risk to their health. This is something that we really need your co-operation with. On a separate issue, although we welcome you to bring in cakes for your childrens birthdays, please can we specify that all cakes are shop bought so again we can check ingredients and also this will comply with our food safety requirements.

Annual Fee Increase

Every August we assess our fee structure and put forward an annual increase to be implemented effective from the new billing period, September to December. This August, as a result of the current economic climate, we decided to defer the increase due in September. Annual fee increases go towards covering yearly infl ations and staff wages, the latter being affected this year by not having our annual increase. Subsequently we will re-visit the fee structure again in December with any change being implemented from January 2010. We will of course keep everyone fully informed.

Staff

We recently lost Sam and Deanne from the Bees Room but we are pleased to announce that we have now appointed the new Room Leader, Sam Nourse, whom most of you will already know from the Caterpillar room. Carly who has recently been working in the Ladybird room has also joined the bees team as the Deputy Room Leader, supporting Sam and the rest of their team.

Congratulations to Julia who is expecting her first baby in March.

Early Drop Offs

We now have a number of children doing the early drop off session at 7.30am. Due to this increase
we will now have all children who have booked this session in the Bee‛s room (2 -3 year olds). If you
have booked this session please drop your children into this room with the early morning staff. As
a result, all children starting at 8am will not be able to go into this room until just before 8am. As a
reminder you are welcome into the building but please be aware that staff need to prepare for the
day before they start with your children at 8am.

Christmas Holidays

As you are all aware we close the nursery over the Christmas period. We will be open fully until Wednesday 23rd December.

We are considering having a drop off session on Thursday 24th December (Christmas Eve) between 8am-1pm.

This will be a pre-bookable session and spaces will be limited please could you indicate on the bottom of the newsletter if this is something that you would be interested in.

This session will be open to all. The Nursery will re-open on Monday 4th January 2010.

If you require childcare throughout this period, please speak to Faye or Gemma who may be able to arrange a member of staff to babysit.

Children Moving Rooms

We have had lots of children progressing to the next age group within the nursery. We do invite parents in for a settle session in the new room. This time gives you a chance to meet your Childs new Key person, staff to show you where things belong, what your child will be doing etc. Hopefully, if your child has recently moved rooms you will have already been invited in for this, if you have not please see Faye or Gemma and we can arrange this for you.

Childrens Belongings

Please can we stress how important it is for you to label your children‛s clothing/belongings? Especially items such as hats, jackets, slippers and items that are easily removed. We spend far too long each day trying to match clothing to its owners!!!

Parent Visitors

As always we are keen to invite parents/friends of parents in to the nursery to talk to the children about their interesting jobs, show the children something of interest, animals, etc.

This can range from doctors to soldiers, and cooks to vets!! If you think you or someone you know will have something of interest that you would like to share with the children please see your child‛s room leader.

Toys

We have had a number of children who keep bring toys in from home recently. Please can we ask you not to bring toys in as the team spend a long time looking for these throughout their day and this time could be spent playing with your children. Thank you for your co-operation with this.

A big thank you to all of you that helped to collect the Sainsbury and Tesco vouchers.
These have now been sent off so we are currently awaiting an exiting delivery of new
equipment for the children.

Signing In/Out
