Is it really so hard to start your very own home based business? Is it truly possible to make money without to invest money?

I'll answer these questions right here.

So let's suppose you are tired of your 9 to 5 job and want to switch it for a profitable business, maintained by you, where you are the only boss. OK I understand. It's just the thing I want to do.

There is a hole bunch of opportunities offering just that. But do they really work, or they just want to take your money and then leave you on your own? The answer is some of them do work, but others don't.

If you choose the first option, I can say that it's the most profitable of all. And you keep all the profits for yourself. If your product sells and the people like it, you can expand your business and create an affiliate program that other people/organizations will be able to sell your product/s for you in exchange of a small commission. It's really simple technique once you've captured the attention of your clients. Your affiliates will make extra sales for you for a small peace of your profit. You would want to give them even more because you do almost nothing while they are eager to sell more and more of your product. Because if they don't they won't get anything.
But there is some things you should consider before throwing your investments. First it's really hard to find/create a product/service in a tight niche, which will grab the attention of thousands. Second if you don't have a website and you are not a web designer, you'll have to spend a little fortune to pay someone to do that for you. Which is a very good investment of your money if the idea is worth it. And third you'll have to spend some more on advertising and promoting your business. Otherwise you won't get noticed.
So if you have that great idea that nobody has ever think of you should go for it and invest as much as it needs. My advice to you is to be careful because you could end up broke without even one sale of your product.

Now about the second option. It really is the simplest. Most people consider it easier than the first one and the only option to start a business with zero investment.
Let's talk about affiliate marketing. It's all about promoting other people's products and services. Most of the affiliate programs are free to join and with some of them you can generate up to 80% commission per sale referred by you. How it works?
You join some program/s or as many as you like. Each of them represents a new income stream for you! Gas prices just keep going up. This has been going on for a while, but now many areas are breaking $4 a gallon - easily. It's not a comfortable situation if you have a long commute.

And this is one of the most obvious ways that working outside the home has become more expensive. Many other prices have gone up as well.

I've come to realize that more and more people are getting serious about working at home, at least some of the time. They may only be able to telecommute a day or two a week, but the savings are obvious.

The challenge can be getting an employer to agree to let you telecommute. It's not impossible if your job is suited to telecommuting, and many employers are feeling enough of a pinch from gas prices themselves that they may be more reasonable about it now than in the past.

This is why many others are looking at home business as an option. Most can be worked as you continue with your day job, so that you aren't starting with no income whatsoever. You can find out if the business is going to be for you.

Starting a home business isn't something you should do lightly. You should research your options and get several ideas for what you want to do. Then you can figure out which you want to focus on first.

Just one. You shouldn't try to run multiple businesses right at the start. While there is something to be said for diversifying your income sources, if you try to do that right at the start you risk failing at them all. Learn how to run one business before you try to run several.

You can estimate these factors to figure out how much your home business needs to be reliably earning before you can quit your job. For most people this takes a while, and you should expect that. But you can also figure out if there's a lower income level at which you can switch to a pure home business model.

And of course, figure out what you are willing to spend on a home business. It's easy to underestimate what a business, particularly an online business, will cost you. Online businesses are relatively cheap to start, and you can start free if you really want to, but it's often better to spend some money to get things moving a little faster. This means you need to know how much you are willing to risk and how much you will reinvest as you start earning.

If you can come up with ways to use less gas, the continuing rise in gas prices will still hurt, but you can limit its impact. How and where you work are potentially great places to cut back on your gas usage.

You work hard as an affiliate marketer, or at least you should. Hard work with the help of a quality downline is your key to business success. Having a downline that works hard, and smart, allows you the freedom to earn while not necessarily working.

A trained and tenacious downline that's hungry for internet marketing success means you have time to enjoy the fruits of your success. All work and no play makes Jack and Jill extremely dull and exhausted as well. If your desire is to work and play, too, educate your downline.

Your downline performs optimally when trained to do so. Whenever you gain a new member for your selling team, you have a responsibility to them. Your responsibility is to give them the benefit of your knowledge and experience. Whatever valuable advice, tips and systems you have in place for your business, share it with your downline.

Think of how you felt when you first embarked on your affiliate marketing voyage. You were probably a little apprehensive, maybe even skeptical it would work. Even if you weren't feeling any of these emotions, you were probably a little uncertain of what the best approach would be to market your affiliate product. Any training you received in your first months was most certainly welcome. It made things easier for you and helped you build an income faster.

Your downline needs the same training. They need this training for three reasons:

* Your downline team needs to know they are dealing with a reputable affiliate company with a quality product. However, are you of the same quality to them as the product company is? Does your downline see you as someone who has his or her best interests at heart? Do they only see you as a giant vacuum cleaner trying to suck up as much profit from your downline while never communicating with them in any form? When you expend energy and resources to train your downline, you let them know you want them to succeed. If you give them the necessary training to succeed, they will reward you in spades. You ensure their long-term viability and your own when you train your downline.

* Your downline needs to know that they will have the knowledge to train their own downline as well. When you train your downline properly, they know how to train their own downline properly. This means they have quality, productive salespeople under them. This results in increased profits all the way up the chain. When you train your downline for success, they pass that knowledge and experience on to others and the affiliate program grows exponentially.

The best way to train your downline is to do it on a regular basis. Don't give them some token introductory training and then leave them to flounder in the giant sea of internet marketing. Give them initial, thorough training and schedule regular training sessions as new selling techniques come your way. Train them on new product features and accessories. Keep them informed and trained so they can pass this knowledge on to their downline and their customers.

1) Become an affiliate and advertise other people's products/services/etc. When you promote whatever they're selling, and it results in a visitor buying whatever they're selling, you get a cut of the profit, a commission. You could get anywhere from 25%-75% of the profit for each sale, maybe even more. You could start your own site that reviews products you are affiliated with, and have those linked with your affiliate links.

2) You could write your own e-book about any topic you can imagine and sell it. Keep all the profits for yourself. You're probably thinking that you're not an expert in any field, have nothing to write about, or some other excuse like those. Maybe you really don't have the knowledge to write about anything. Even if your site is so visually appealing and amazing, and it has all these fancy features, if nobody sees your site, it doesn't mean squat. Advertising is an absolute must. You can pay to have your ads displayed in advertising campaigns all over the internet, or if you want free advertising, there are traffic exchanges, blogs, article writing, posting your link in your sig in forums, the list goes on.

• Do not expect to make a lot of money in a relatively short period of time. Of course it's possible, but whenever you see a televised testimony about some get rich quick scheme, you always see the fine print "Results Not Typical". You get out of your business what you put into it. An online business does not mean you do not work. Quite the opposite actually. You just happen to be working at home, on your computer, instead of in a cubicle in an office.

Remember, no business plan is ever fool proof. My father once said if you think something is fool proof, than you've underestimated your fools. In no particular order:

1) They do not want to have to drive and make a commute to their place of employment. Perhaps their old job required driving on a dangerous highway and they valued their life enough to not take that chance anymore. Gas is really expensive and that would definitely contribute to this reason.

2) They want to spend as much time with their family as possible. I was lucky enough to have a stay at home mother, but there are too many kids these days that are not as lucky as I was. Or perhaps they just want to be with the people they care for the most without having a job to constrict and limit their time spent together.

3) They hate their bosses/managers/etc. I remember being treated like garbage at my first job. I was expendable. The fact that I was young, nervous and naive meant nothing to my superiors. I was forced to work hours I did not enjoy while they had all the choices they wanted. Sound familiar?

4) They're lazy. They dream of living a life of leisure, or they just want to make a living while doing a minimal amount of work.

5) They want to explore other areas of life they would never have time for with a job, or they have a passion that they never have time for. Sports, fishing, gardening, computers, video games, martial arts, RC gliders...the list is endless.

6) They enjoy not having to wear some fancy (or ugly) uniform while they work. They're free to work in their underwear if they please, or they don't have to wear anything period while they work *insert laugh track here*.

L – License: Learn what your city, county, and/or state requires for a new business.
M – Money: It takes money to make money – there is no free ride.

5 Reasons Why You Need A Work-At-Home Schedule

One of the attractions of working at home is the vision of freedom it invokes -- no time clock, no time sheets, and no one to account to for how you spend your time. Yes, it is an attractive proposition, but like so many attractive propositions there is a heavy downside -- you are likely wasting a lot of time.

My husband spends time every day filling out these large spreadsheets to account for his day. He works for a large engineering company and his day often encompasses work on a variety of projects for different clients. He loathes the activity and I have always dismissed it as a waste of time -- that is until my home business recently took off and I realized there simply wasn't enough hours in the day to accomplish all my goals.

I now have my own spread sheet and agenda for the day and I have improved my productivity and reduced my stress immeasurably. If you don't think you need a schedule for your home business then think again -- and read on.

After a spate of relatively unproductive days when my "To Do" list seemed to grow exponentially every time I looked at it I knew something had to change.

Granted I was going through a rough patch. My home business was experiencing growing pains and taking up more than the usual time, my four-year-old was only in preschool part-time, my husband wasn't pulling his weight on the home front, and my extended family was experiencing a number of crises. But I'm also old enough to know there is never a perfect time in life -- you just live the one you've got. These are simply the problems I'm dealing with this year. Next year these problems will be traded in for new fresh ones.

After studying my time and chatting with some other work-at-home folks, I discovered five reasons to embrace the schedule:

1. It's too easy to waste time doing nonpriority tasks
2. It's too easy to get sidetracked or distracted from your current task
3. Unscheduled work time can often overlap into your free time until you don't have any free time at all
4. Your free time can overlap into your work time until you fall behind with important projects
5. Concentrating your time and effort on highest priority projects means more gets done

I'm not the only work at home business person encompassing the schedule. I recently took part in an online forum where men and women had moved to embrace it -- and found it more freeing than restrictive. After all, you are still the one setting the schedule so you are free to schedule yourself off for a 3-hour lunch, an afternoon, or a whole day whenever you choose.

Your web site can either make or break you.

A professional looking web site will play a major role in your success. If you aren't secure in your abilities to design a professional looking site, you will be much better off hiring a professional.

Lesson # 3

If you want to make a lot of money, you must create a niche.

A niche fills a specific customer need.

People want products and services that fulfill a specific personal need. If you are the first to fulfill the need, you'll reap the rewards.

Lesson # 4

Generating web site traffic takes a lot of time and effort.

The key to generating a lot of traffic to your site is getting your link on as many sites as possible. Sure, listing your site with the Search Engines is your first step; however, you must not solely rely on Search Engines to bring you traffic.

My two biggest traffic generators are as follows:

Affiliate Program - Having your own affiliate program is one of the best ways to get hundreds, even thousands of links to your web site.

Providing a Free Product or Service - Providing your visitors with a free product or service is a great way to drive traffic to your site.

“There’s no such thing as a free lunch!” That proverb has been traced back to around 1950. It means that nothing in life is free; you can’t get something for nothing. And if it appears to be free, somebody somewhere is paying for it.

That is extremely valuable information to keep in mind when you’re surfing the Net looking for a home-based business. Beware the “nothing (down) for something” SCAMS! They go against ALL the generally accepted rules of business and commerce.

Then ‘money’ was invented in the form of seashells, beads, or pieces of metal. Aardvaak pays you 3 seashells for your fish, and you go across the village and pay Oodwarg 2 seashells for some firewood, which leaves you one seashell to buy bread from Mharyang on the way home.

It’s still how we do business today—except we now use coins & bills, credit cards, debit cards, money orders, bank drafts, bank wires, checks, email transfers, or PayPal. But it’s ALWAYS in exchange for something, be it goods or services. If not, the police is called in to investigate—or at least they should be.

I’m a business person. I have products for sale, and I have a business opportunity. To get either one, you’ll have to pay money. It’s a value-for-value proposition; your money for my product and / or opportunity. Fair and square. And on top of that, if you want to succeed with my business opportunity, you’ll have to do some work. Again, value (your sweat & elbow grease) for value (a substantial residual income).

No free lunch. Everything has a price. As it should be. Warren Buffet once said, “"Price is what you pay. Value is what you get.” Or as I like to say, “You always get what you pay for; you pay nothing, you’ll get nothing.”

You’re probably wondering why on Earth I’m spending so much time expanding on something so obvious. Because for some unexplainable reason, many otherwise intelligent people (who would never consider walking out the door of the liquor store with a case of wine they did not pay for—unless they’re looking for a way to spend a night in jail) act like idiots when they’re on the Net searching for a home-based business opportunity.

As if all of a sudden, because they’re navigating the virtual world, all the laws of commerce—particularly the practice of value-for-value—no longer apply. And they’ll get sucked in the most ludicrous scams. Like “free business opportunity”, or “no money down turnkey homebased business” or “you do no work, we do it all for you.” On that last one, if that was true, if they indeed do ALL the work, why would they not keep ALL the profits?

Come on people, put your thinking cap back on. Let’s be real; a business costs money—even in the ‘virtual’ world. It costs money to start and to grow. And it takes some work too. Those people should stop fooling themselves and waste their time responding to those idiotic ads that pollute the Internet. If they believe crap like “Turn $35 into $10,000 a month, for life!”, the next thing the scammers will sell them is some ocean-front property in Arizona.

You know what song is playing in the scammers’ head while he’s processing some sucker’s credit card? The words are from a very popular song of the mid-eighties; “The lights are on, but you’re not home, your mind is not your own…” They’ll probably sing that too as they’re walking and laughing all the way to the bank!

Enough negative stuff already. Let’s close this article with valuable words of wisdom from three very successful philosophers-businesspeople;

Business Success Tips: Busting Five Myths

Every day I come across people who are unhappy because they are struggling to make ends meet, working like slaves, living paycheck to paycheck, in debt up to their eyeballs. I recognize them because I used to be in that situation. No longer though; I’m now part of the home-based business revolution.

Why aren’t they? Because as I find out when I talk with them, they subscribe to many of the myths that surround business in general, and in particular the home business industry. To help them—and you if you’ve been thinking about it—I’d like to take a look at five of those myths and BUST them!

MYTH # 1: You need A LOT OF MONEY to start a business…

This is true IF you want to buy an existing business or start a traditional business (in most cases), specially a brick & mortar business. While doing some research the other day, I saw a motel for sale for $600K and a drycleaner for $250K.

I’ve owned a brick & mortar business once: an art gallery and framing shop in Whitehorse, with 12 employees. I bought it in 1986—inventory & goodwill for $200,000 (they wanted 250K). I had to borrow $20,000 from my parents for the down payment, then pay the ex-owners $30,000 a year for 8 years. That was hard on the cash flow. More recently, I invested in six online “stores”. With the support and the tutoring, that was a $20,000 investment.

Another example, I was talking to someone last month who was thinking about buying a fast food franchise for $300K. He told me he would be paying himself a living wage for 4 years, and then in year 5 he expected a profit of $50,000. Plus all the work and time and worry that goes into that! So yes, for SOME types of business you need a lot of dough…

Even businesses on the Net can be rather expensive; one business opportunity states up front that the investment is $49,500! Ouch! But at the other end of the spectrum, I’ve recently started a very lucrative ‘home-based’ business for under $2,000. And I know of MANY business opportunities you can get going for even less than that

So you see, that’s another myth busted: you DO NOT need a LOT of money to start a lucrative business. You just need to start with the right one*.

MYTH # 2: You need to WORK A LOT—at least 50 or 60 hours a week—to get a business off the ground and profitable.

You do for a ‘regular’ type of business. That was the case for me with Yukon Gallery… 7 days a week… 10-12 hours a day…Working on the Holidays… I remember one summer going 48 days without a day off.

But that’s not the case with most home-based businesses… For example, I’ve invested just over 100 hours in my home business over the last 5 weeks (about 20-25 hours a week), for very good RE$ULT$!

MYTH # 3: A home-based business is SMALL BUSINESS

When they hear the words “home-based business”, many people think “cottage industry”; stuffing envelopes, making earrings, gluing pine cones to make decorations.

I find that kind of funny…That’s because I personally know at least 30 people—maybe 50 if you gave me a bit of extra time to think about it—who are making BIG money from a home-based business. I mean $20,000, $30,000, $40,000 and more a MONTH! They do that with direct sales opportunities, with Network Marketing opportunities, with MLM-type opportunities like you see on the internet all the time.

For most people—because most people have a scarcity mentality, or a this-is-too-good-to-be-true mentality—those incomes sound ludicrous. Well, they’re not. Not in these types of business… Not if you pick the right opportunity* and you do it right.

The other reason for this myth being perpetuated is that most people either have a job or own a ‘regular’ type of business—like a brick & mortar retail outlet, or they provide services where they trade time for money. And with a job or a ‘regular’ type of business, those numbers are close to impossible to attain.

MYTH # 4: Network marketing—and most home-based businesses that use that model—are ILLEGAL PYRAMID SCHEMES

That’s a biggie; I’d say that probably 75% of the people who call me regarding my home-based business bring up that myth, and I suspect the other 25% think about it even if they don’t verbalize it…

If I had an hour to talk with you, I could mention all the legal battles won by the industry… the fact that there are currently over 50 network marketing companies or companies using that model on the stock exchange, that people like Robert Kiyosaki (bestselling author of Rich Dad Poor Dad), Stephen Covey (bestselling author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People) and Warren Buffet are either promoting, working with, or have purchased that type of business…

MYTH # 5: You can make a fortune offering NO PRODUCT, and therefore NO VALUE

This is not exactly a mainstream myth, but it will be familiar to people reading this who’ve spent any time on the internet looking for a home-based business or an extra stream of income.

I just finished busting myth #4 that network marketing and direct-sales companies are not illegal—but it’s critical to understand that some are right on the edge because of the way they conduct their business.

That’s a critical point. Just because the INDUSTRY is legal does not mean everyone IN the industry operates in a legal way. I’ve seen many offers on the net that are right on the edge. If you like to sleep well at night, I’d stay away from those*.

They’re on the edge because they basically pay people just for recruiting people, NOT for marketing a real product. Or, to stay within the legality, they’ll market a product that may be worth $50, but they sell it for $995 and you make a commission of $500 every time you enroll someone who joins your business by buying that product. We refer to those as get-rich-quick-schemes. BE VERY CAREFUL!

If you want a LONG-TERM viable business that offers real, residual income, you HAVE to offer a real product that represents real value*. And there are MANY great opportunities available to you, solid companies offering legitimate products. Just do your homework, your due diligence, and keep your eyes open.

Home is usually one of best place where you can work. This is because in your own home, you can relax after every busy working hour. Not only that, most people find it convenient and easy to work right inside their houses.

Without the pressures of working in the office, a person can be more productive to work at home. It can be quite discouraging though, when you don't know when to or where to start.

Here is a list of ideas to supply you with a good place to begin your work at home business or job:

1. Try searching for a telecommute job. If you think you are not comfortable with a home business, instead try to bring your job home with you. Try to consult your boss about your plan. If your boss refuse to it, seek for telecommute jobs online.

2. EBay and other online auction sale are great sites to begin with. If you have collective items, which you have in your possession for many years now, try selling some of those items, sell them at public sales and get more profit out of it. It is fast and simple.

3. You can also create a website with chat rooms. Chat rooms are trendy and popular. Arrange them in a way to build a strong gathering and a flourishing web traffic. If you want a music chat room or any other types of chat room, you can put up link programs from other search engines that can provide you with such.

4. Get some flour and eggs and make dog some dog treats. This and other home made products are sure hit online and offline also. You can sell them wholesale to pet shops if you want.

5. Begin an online directory. Lots of people and online businesses want to leave their contacts/links with online directories. People will store your site as a resource if you place it out. You can also put up some affiliate or pay per click marketing on your directory.

6. Join the Google Adsense. These provides an excellent way to make some money. You can also make an article, place it on your chosen site and place the ads in the page. People will read it, and when they become interested, they will just click on the similar ads.

7. Make 2 dollars turn into 20 dollars. Purchase wholesale and sell it retail on the internet. There are times that you do not have to bring with you your products. Some delivery services will be pleased to do all of it for you, just create your website and sell.

8. If there are things, you know which most people do not, and then take it as your advantage. Offer your services and charge as an adviser or a coach. Provide articles and ebooks on the subject, people are willing to pay for information.

9. Kids are an excellent means to make money online. Make a kid's website and sell marketing space. However, ensure that your site offers pay per click campaign and businesses that sell games or candy.

10. If you doubt the nine above-mentioned ideas, consider what you like most or what you love to do! If you like sports, make a website that tackles about sports. If you like dolls, sell dolls online. Stick with what you are familiar with and you will never go wrong. Its just about marketing your products and services.

On top of everything, try researching for more ideas so you can have more choices. Look at businesses you respect and admired, then work out how you can make it better.

Sometimes the best ideas are the ones that come from old ideas. More people began this way, so why not start this way too.
