SkitterToys Review Part 1

Today's review is for a yellow Skitter Car from Skitter Toys! (arv $55.95)

We have had quite awhile to thoroughly test out the Skitter Car; it's quality, it's durability, it's ease of use, and of course, it's fun factor. We also got the chance to review it with it's regular wheels, and then the upgraded wheels. This review is for the regular wheels, and soon I will have the review up for the upgraded wheels. (That one will include a video!)

I honestly can't tell you how fun this little car is. Not only does Calvin love it, but Aaron and I love it, and our friends and family love it as well. (Everytime our friends come over they have to ride it around, lol) I was very surprised to see that it was able to hold the weight of my husband, as well as our guy friends that are all over the weight limit. (The weight limit on it is 150lbs.) I wanted to really test out it's durability, and it more than passed the test. They were able to ride around on it with the same ease that I was.

It's very simple to use, just sit, put your feet up on the feet pads, and steer the wheel. It doesn't take long to learn how to move the wheel in order to move forward and to turn. It definitely moves easier on smooth surfaces, like wood or tiled floors. Moving you forward like you're on a slanted surface, even though you aren't. And takes a little more work in parking lots and other places with rough surfaces.

Calvin is too young to really undestand how to use the wheel, so as you can see, he scoots with his feet. But he doesn't mind at all. He absolutely adores his car, and even though he also has a smaller car that fits him better; he prefers to use the Skitter Car, and have us use his tiny car, lol.

So after a couple months of using it non-stop, and testing weight limits, different surfaces, etc; I can definitely vouch for the fact that the Skitter Car is durable, fun, and worth every penny. Christmas is coming up soon, and I think this would be an awesome present for your kids. Who wouldn't love this? (Heck, we use it just as much as Calvin does! It's a great toy for the whole family) And for the price, you really can't beat it. I highly recommend it; if I didn't have one already, and knew what I knew about it, I would buy it in a second.

Today's combined review is for the Rosebay Willowherb Cream
and Exfoliating Face Wash Cream from Alchemilla.

Theo: "My review is a bit mixed, due to the fact that I was not fond of the Rosebay Willowherb Cream. It didn't do much for me; my skin didn't feel satisfyingly moisturized. Moreover, the cream seemed slightly too bland for my taste. It may have something to do with my skin type because I do understand that certain creams work on certain skins. The Rosebay seems beneficial for individuals with minor burns, rashes, eczema and other skin afflications. The box states that the cream is for all skin types but I feel as though it is geared more for sensitive skin.

However, I really enjoyed the Exfoliating Face Wash Cream. I don't know what it was --- the tiny spheres of jojoba, refreshing organic herbal extracts (grown by Alchemilla) or the smooth skin afterward --- but this product won me over. According to Achemilla's site, "Rosemary and Calendula are combined with Sea Buckthorn and nourishing Shea" to create a gentle exfoliator which is neither harsh nor difficult to wash off. How true that is! I loved this product and give it a big thumbs up! Thus, for me, although the Rosebay Willowherb Cream is not something I would add to my beauty regimen, the Exfoliating Face Wash Cream was uber effective and left my skin glowing!"

Katie: "I actually have the opposite opinion from Theo. While I loved how creamy the facewash is, that's also what I ended up not liking. I have combination skin, so I need my facewash to make my face more 'squeaky-clean' than 'creamy-clean'. I honestly wish I could have used it more, because I enjoyed having a nice soft face without having to apply a lotion, but it just didn't work out with my skin type.

On the other hand, I love the Rosebay Willowherb Cream. I would use it only on my specific dry areas and for me it worked like a charm, while also helping to reduce a little redness. So I have been enjoying using this almost daily.

Even though the Exfoliating Face Wash Cream didn't work for me, I would still recommend it as well as the Rosebay Willowherb Cream. If you have the right skin type for either of these products, I think it's worth getting them because they are both high quality, natural, and just overall fabulous products!"

Firstly, I have to tell you how much I honestly LOVE JCPenney. I love their clothing, their home decor items, and especially their incredible sales. They always seem to have a sale going on, which honestly is what keeps me coming back for more. Because there are a lot of stores that have nice clothing, but I can't afford it; so I don't go to them. JCPenney is easily affordable, and affordable with style. So I always seem to find myself wandering in there to see what new sales they have going on, then coming out with some fab finds.

When I got the chance to give my husband a $100 gift card for JCPenney's 'From Slob to Suave' promotion, I was very excited. He has been in need of new clothes for awhile now, and I knew this would help him feel so much better about himself. So off we went shopping, and we were able to get him 5 shirts (2 polos and 3 tees), 2 pairs of shorts, and some swim shorts. Which I think is amazing for only $100.

The clothing fits well, looks awesome, is high quality, and has definitely helped him get some more confidence. Plus he can mix and match them all for several different outfits. We are both very happy with his new wardrobe, and will of course be going back to JCPenney for more clothing soon!

umi shoes review

Today's review is for a pair of Astro shoes in Chocolate from UMI Shoes! (arv $63)

Calvin and I both completely fell in love with his first pair of shoes he received from UMI, the Sail sandles. They were soft and comfortable, and incredibly cute. But unfortunately he grew out of them (though my husband wants to get them bronzed since they were the only shoes Calvin would wear for months)

So I was so excited to get to review another pair. The Astro shoes are not only way cute and stylish, but comfortable, and very high quality. The stitching is amazing, all the materials and high end. I can tell these shoes were built to last (which is good considering how Calvin is always on the go).

These shoes are perfect for casual or dressy (he wears them during the week, and to church). Really, they are a style that fits into almost any setting. I also love how easy they are to put on, just velcro and go :)

UMI Shoes is one of my favorite places to go to for shoes for Calvin. You really can't beat their quality and style. Today's review is for a Wonderworld Hopping Bunny Walker Push Toy from Toys And Games Online! (arv $70)

I try my best to be eco-friendly. I'm not perfect, but if I have a chance for it, I'll take it. So I was very excited to get the chance to review an eco-friendly toy from Toys And Games Online. As soon as I saw the Bunny Hopper Push Toy, I knew I had to have it.

It's bright and fun, it helps your baby learn to walk, it's very high quality, and also it's made from "environmentally friendly rubberwood, non-toxic water-based paints and biodegradable fabrics". And the design that makes the bunnies hop is so simple and ingenious.

Calvin took to it incredibly fast as well. He loves push toys, and couldn't get enough of the bunnies hopping. The only problem I had with him, though, is that he is a little too old for it (one and a half), and he would flip it over to see the underneath; as well as sit on it. I was worried he was going to break it. So I decided to give it to my one year old sister.

Just learning to walk, this was perfect for her. She was able to keep her balance and walk around the house. It didn't take long before she was looking like a pro! In less than a month, she was up and walking by herself. I can't, obviously, let the walker take all the credit, but I know it helped.

This is definitly a toy that I will recommend if you have a baby that is just learning to walk, or on the verge of it. So if you have fallen in love with it as much as I did, head on over to Toys And Games Online. They are offering free shipping on the bunny hopper!

rileyroos review

Today's review is for a pair of Dakota shoes in Orange Swirl from Rileyroos! (arv $30)

I have worked with Rileyroos before and fell in love with their shoes the first time. This second time around is no different. The style, quality, color, softness, and overall awesome-ness of these shoes is what keeps me coming back for more.

I was excited to try out a pair of their sandles, since Mister absolutely loves sandles. The Dakota shoes are made out of this extremely soft leather and mesh uppers, and leather and rubber soles that are incredibly durable. He's able to wear these in even the rockiest places and they hold up. (And trust me, when it comes to Calvin, he will choose the rocky path over the smooth path. He's my little adventurer!)

Besides the quality and style of these shoes, another factor I love is that they go on so easy. Just slip his foot in, velcro the two velcro closures, and you're ready to go. Now that's my kind of shoe!

Once again, I recommend Rileyroos not only because they are one of my favorite children's shoes; but because I know that they are bound to be one of yours as well.

pbs kids review

Today's review is for a Sid the Science Kid DVD Package ($40) from PBS Kids:

c. Dive Olly Dive: Ship Shape Sub

I have to admit, the first couple of times that I watched Sid the Science Kid, I wasn't in love. I'm not one for kid shows usually. But after awhile, it really has grown on me. It's not something I would just sit and watch for hours on end, but it doesn't bug me or irritate me (like some kids shows can, I won't name any names.....) Which that alone gives it two thumbs up from me. The most important aspect, though, is that Calvin LOVES it.

He at first didn't take a lot of interest either, he would watch a little bit and then go on his way. But now that he's older, he adores it. He may not understand all the fantastic educational stuff that they are teaching (though I do, and that's another part about it that makes me happy), but he will soon enough. In the meantime he enjoys the music, the happy kids, and he especially loves when they have animals or bugs on there.

And I had never watched Dive Olly Dive before, but it is also a fun show that Calvin can't get enough of, mainly because he adores fish and underwater things. So the whole time he's watching he's pointing at the screen saying "fishy".

Both of these shows are fantastic, fun, and educational; the perfect combination for little minds. I definitely suggest that if you have little kids, you introduce them to these great shows. They will absolutely love them!

I recently had the opportunity to review Shrimp Lo Mein through means of a free coupon. (For some reason, I received the coupon in place of the standard Orange Chicken sample everyone's received. Oh well!)

To be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of Asian cuisine because I grew up in a Mediterranean household where meals focused on other kinds of spices. However, I thought it would be worth a shot because blogging is all about trying new things. So off I journeyed into the frozen foods aisle and glanced at my five flavor options:Spicy Garlic Chicken, Orange Chicken, Sweet & Spicy Shrimp, Sweet & Sour Chicken, and Shrimp Lo Mein. "Hmm, thought I, "me thinkest best to tryest the shrimp -I likest shrimp."

Good decision making on my part. I have to admit that the Shrimp Lo Mein was pretty tasty. I'm picky when it comes to shrimp but this meal did not fail to satisfy my hunger. I was pleasantly surprised considering how I try to avoid frozen foods as much as possible since it's a win/lose situation with them and I hate to lose. (Or, at least my appetite does.)

It took me about 15 minutes to prepare the meal but the process was simple. There was so much leftover though. This is definitely an entree meant for a family of 2 or 3. I thought nothing of it when I tested it out and had to wrap the rest up. Somehow, the leftovers didn't taste quite the same.

Additionally, the Wanchai Ferry experience was amplified by the lovely dinner set sent to me. I was able to add a hint of culture to the meal with the sturdy rice bowls and chopsticks provided by MyBlogSpark and Wanchai Ferry. Personally, the bamboo placemats appealed most to me -they looked great at the table!

crazy forts review

Today's review is for a 69-Piece Crazy Forts Set with attachable lights!

Did you ever make forts when you were younger? I did. In fact, my siblings and I would constantly make forts, inside and outside. Tree forts, table forts, it was all good to us. That's why I was so excited to learn about, and get to review Crazy Forts. So my little guy can have the same love of forts that I had.

He was definitely already building it up because he has been hiding under blankets and in cubbies for awhile now. So when I first made him a fort to play in with our Crazy Forts set, he went right in and sat there giggling about his new found hiding spot.

Cars and various other toys were soon brought in to his "dojo", and then he was in fort playing bliss for quite some time. And with the detachable lights, he was able to see what he was doing a lot better. Since then we have built several different forts; including a tunnel, a castle, a cottage, and other made up buildings. It is so fun and so simple, and what's even better is that he will use this toy for years to come.

The only complaint I have about it is that it doesn't have a carrying case for the sticks and balls when you aren't using them. I'm going to have to go get some Rubbermaid containers or something. Otherwise pieces get lost and I have to go searching for them.

If your kid loves building forts, I recommend getting the Crazy Forts set. Maybe even a couple (which I'm contemplating doing), so you can build bigger and grander forts. It is worth every penny and your child will absolutely love you :) Here's the link:

If there's anything we learn while growing up it's to have fun in a wholesome way and that nothing beats a good friend. Wouldn't it be nice to share? Wouldn't it be nice to be unique? Additionally, Mag-tagz collectors, by visiting the Mag-tagz site can interact in an entertaining game called “Tag, You’re It!”Each tag has a code and kids can participate by entering this code onto the website. The goal of the game is to collect four clues and figure out the common denominator. A nice aspect about the game is that in order receive more clues, children can trade tagz with friends, which builds camaraderie. Once the answer is discovered, it can be submitted online and kids are then automatically entered win amazing prices such as a Wii. However, no one walks away empty-handed -- everyone who enters to win receives a special-edition tag just for participating. Personally, I cannot picture a 5 or 6-year old using the computer with such ease but 9 and up seems a good age.

Here's more on the history of Mag-tagz: Mag-tagz designs, L.L.C was formed as a family project. We have two children, an 8-year old son and a 10-year old daughter. My kids and I thought it would be fun to create a kids' jewelry line with trading in mind.

Okay. So I'll be the first to admit that Soy Delites does not feature many products on their site. I was actually slightly shocked considering how every retailer these days is selling everything under the sun. However, for me this discovery on Soy Delite's site was a relief because it allowed me to focus on what they do best, which is to offer customers beautiful scented candles!

So what exactly is this company? Soy Delites is based in Austin, Texas and run by a husband and wife team (Garland and Christy). makes their candles out of...guess...guess....soy! Biodegradable, healthier, and long-lasting, Soy Delites prove to be worthy members of the great eco-friendly companies out there.

Here's more info on the benefits of soy candles: Soy candles do not emit the soot that are characteristic of paraffin candles. While the combustion of paraffin candles produces a considerable amount of soot, the combustion of soy wax candles produces little to no soot.

My favorite part of their site is actually this miscellaneous page (click here) that describes their 20 candle scents. After I read each description I couldn't wait to try out each option, especially the vanilla! Overall, I would say that although there are only a few products available (tealights, travel tins, votives and their signature prism glasses), Soy Delites does offer quality handmade and wholesome options!

do-n-slide review

Today's review is for a Do-N-Slide with an Around the house pack and a Toddlers day pack.

We were so lucky to get to try a Do-N-Slide! It's the perfect way to get your kids excited to help out and get into a routine. I've tried making my own chore charts, but they never seem to last. I found that combining some routine along with some of those dreaded chores, my kids did great!

So here's how it works. The board has a slot at the top for the day of the week, and of course it comes with the card for each day of the week. Below that there are five more slots. One one side your child slides in what they are supposed to do on that day (or you do!) and then when that item is completed they slide it to the right, or the "All Done" slide. It's great because you can have different chores and routines for each day or leave it the same.

My kids were so excited to get it out and get started. We had a minor hiccup when both of my older boys wanted to do it, but we solved it by putting two cards in some of the spaces. So for some they were able to move it when they had both completed the job, and for others they moved their own when they completed it. Since we were moving, we decided to put hooks on our fridge that we were taking with us. That way they could find it easily.

The only problem we have had is that our two year old twins want to slide the cards over, even when they haven't been done! You see that little hand down there under his brothers? Yep, he's such a good helper. One day soon they'll be ready for their own. So really, the only thing I didn't like was that it's a little difficult to use for more than one child. But it's big enough that I wouldn't really want to put up four. Maybe they'll design one for multiple users! But I would still highly recommend this for your kids. They'll need some reminding but soon they'll be doing their chores on their own!

true learning review

Today's review is for an early learning Curriculum CD from True Learning.

For the past few years, I have been teaching preschool from home. So I was really excited when I received my curriculum CD from True Learning. I was just amazed at how many activities there were on just two small CD's! Right now my twins are a little younger, and my older boys a little older than preschool age, but I found that my five year old really enjoyed doing these activities, and that they have been a great review for Kindergarten! I can't wait to use them with my preschoolers in the Fall!
(P.S. No, I did not comb my sons hair that day. ;)

Like True Learning, I am passionate about the learning and growth of children. While I feel that too much worksheet or "busy" work can sometimes be counterproductive, I have also found that children enjoy them, and that just a few minutes a day can make all the difference. True learning has made the goal of having the best early childhood curriculum, and I would say for the most part they've done a really good job. So here are the Pros and Cons for me:

Pros: Lots of great activities, comprehensive and cumulative. I love how each step adds onto the last step. My son enjoyed it. The pictures and colors are fantastic!

Cons: A lot of color to print. I will probably copy them to black and white when I use them frequently. A big one for me is that it doesn't include music. I am a huge advocate of music for children of all ages. I believe music can help children learn and grow in all areas.

What's a great, educational way to keep the kiddos entertained this summer? Hmm...obviously MTV reality shows are out of the question. You've already taken them to the library this week. And shucks it's raining.

That's where these PBS Kids DVD's come in. "Sid the Science Kid" is an Emmy nominated show on PBS and "Dive Olly Dive" is a 3D-animated show that will be airing on PBS Sprout. Both are aimed for the toddlers through preschooler age group.

Personally, I do not have children so I have never actually seen an episode of "Sid the Science Kid". This doesn't mean that I've never heard of it. From my understanding, it's a highly popular PBS Kids series featuring friendly, adorable characters, upbeat music, and a curiosity about nature!

Best of all, although kids love it for its colorful animations and lovable characters, parents appreciate the show because it rouses children's interest in learning and promotes science and math fundamentals. Additionally, "Dive Olly Dive", a show that follows the adventures of a young submarine-in-training and his best friend Beth, also commands attention with its impressive underwater world and learning tactics.

Itty bitty object, great entertainment!

With 216 individual spherical neodymium magnets, the NeoCube is sort of like the Rubik's Cube but with pretty much billions of solutions. It's a puzzle and it's a sort of construction game as well. Unconventional and complex (but remarkably never frustrating) the NeoCube helps relieve some stress, allows for ample brain stimulation, and is an easy way to release some of that pent up creativity.

"The NeoCube was a bit of a mystery for me. When it arrived I stared at it, perplexed as to what I was supposed to do with it and wondered who would ever pay that much money for this. And then I removed the pieces from their package and the fun began! I honestly don't know what the NeoCube is meant for aside from being a decent way to amuse myself during streams of boredom. I simply place it into my hands and begin working away, breaking the pieces apart and creating random shapes. (Mostly, I test out the magnetic force between the individual little spheres --for some reason this enthralls me the most.)

So far, I haven't been able to create anything wonderful because believe it or not, building with spheres is a whole new experience and some of the magnetic spheres lack polarity (which is the challenge I guess), but learning new ways to manipulate the NeoCube is intriguing."

"It is definitely intriguing, and addicting! I love finding all the new different shapes and things I can make with the NeoCube. For example, my apple in the picture :) I love using it when I'm watching movies, or riding in the car, or if I'm bored, whatever. It's a fun way to pass the time.

And I've gotten everyone in my family addicted. My husband, all my brother and sister in laws, etc. And we are all very different ages too. It something that adults as well as kids love.

What I found funny is that when my mom and mother-in-law tried it (seperately), they both held it, took it apart, and thought they had broken it. They thought that all the pieces were connected instead of individual. They were very relieved to find out they hadn't broken my new toy, and even more intrigued with it knowing that each piece is seperate.

I highly recommend the NeoCube as a fun way to pass the time, use your mind, and practice your creativity. And if you're like me, you'll get super addicted and want even more NeoCubes to make bigger sculptures :)"
