Our next meeting will be April 14th, 2009, at 6:30 p.m. at the county GOP office. We will be discussing bylaws and hearing from our County Auditor's Elections Manager, Garth Fell. If we have enough time left over, we'll gripe about taxes!

Just a reminder: our next meeting is Tuesday, Feb. 10, 6:30 p.m. at the county GOP HQ in Marysville.

We have a lot to discuss, including potential bylaws changes, outreach, and our special guest, Debbie Copple, who will be talking about the skeet shooting range near Index, and their problems with the federal government.

We also will be discussing the Lincoln Day Dinner (March) and the State Fair (August).

This is an important meeting, please come!

A few comments may be worthwhile. I am not a big fan of Randy Dorn, but he seems like a good guy who knows what he is doing, and that he has the best chance to unseat Terry Bergeson. Brian Sonntag is a Democrat, but I think he has done a pretty good job in the face of a Democratic government. I also think Dick McIntee would do a very fine job. I think we will be well-served with either of them. I like Charles Johnson but am not crazy about him, and am considering voting for Beecher or Vulliet.

The Monroe parade is coming up and the Dan Kristiansen campaign needs a strong showing for this parade!

If you would like to be in the parade with us, hold a sign and/or pass out candy, stickers, frisbees and brochures, please let us know.

Monroe Fair Days Parade
Saturday, August 23rd
Line up at 10 am at Park Place Middle School, 1408 W Main St., Monroe
Parade starts at 11 am

Please arrive early enough to allow time for parking your car and walking to the parade line up. There is a lot of traffic in Monroe on this day, as it is also the start of the Evergreen State Fair.

Attire is red, white and blue, the patriotic theme. We suggest jeans, shorts, red, white or blue t-shirts, and patriotic hats, buttons, and pins.

Kids are welcome. Bring a smile and we hope you can help us this year!

Please contact us, or reply to this post, and let us know if you can walk in the parade with us. Invite your friends and families. If you are in high school and need community service hours, we are willing to submit these hours for you.

State Senator Val Stevens Decries Burning of Campaign Signs

39th District State Senator Val Stevens (R-Arlington), called the burning of her campaign signs “senseless vandalism which has no place in the political process.” Stevens, who is running for her fourth term in the State Senate, lives in Arlington with her husband, Keith.

It was Keith Stevens who filed a malicious mischief complaint with the Skagit Valley Sheriff’s Department about the sign burning. The vandalism occurred to signs in southern Skagit County in the area of Old Pacific Highway near County Line Road according to the Senator’s husband.

Senator Stevens said, “Sometimes kids will knock over campaign signs especially as it gets closer to Halloween. But in this case, my signs have been deliberately set on fire.” She added, “This appears to be specifically directed at me because signs of other candidates in the same vicinity are being left alone.” She released photos of several of her signs which have been burned.

Stevens called destruction of these signs, “not only vandalism but an infringement on the right of political free speech as well.” She said, “Campaign signs help voters become more aware of the political process so they can make more intelligent choices when marking their ballots.” She continued, “By burning my signs, those responsible for this vandalism are not only hurting my campaign, they are attacking the integrity of the election process itself.”

Democrats Give $10K to Walser Following Guilty Plea

The Senate Democratic Campaign Committee gave former Sultan Police Chief Fred Walser the tidy sum of $10,000 for his campaign on June 17, almost two weeks after he pled guilty to providing false information and was sentenced to one year in jail.

Larsen Trades Earmarks for Donations?

That's the question Rick Bart, Republican challenger to Democrat Larsen in the 2nd Congressional District, and former Snohomish County Sheriff, is asking Larsen's campaign. And Bart's right: if this isn't a trade, it's worth raising eyebrows over, and Larsen should give the money back to avoid the obvious appearance of impropriety.
