Dell introduced its first AMD based system, the Inspiron 1501, about half a year ago, which has become one of the best selling notebooks in its economic segment. The Inspiron 1501 is a low-cost version of the top selling Inspiron 6400/e1505 series to keep budget-minded customers happy. While both systems are quite similar, there are some noticeable differences between them. For example, the e1505 has media buttons and specially dedicated media software. Ahh … the sweet spot. It took about 3.5hrs to discharge the dell inspiron 1501 battery from full to 5 percent with minimal usage (screen at 2/7 brightness, internet browsing, word processing, wireless OFF). I ordered the D820 with the standard 6-cell dell laptop battery. The 9-cell dell latitude d820 battery was optional for an additional $20 but I didn't think the added weight was worth it. The battery takes about two hours to charge absolutely fully (though the meter reaches 100% before that time). Dell touts something they call Express Charge which optimizes the time to charge the battery. This lets you charge the d820 dell battery to 80% in only one hour for time-critical situations.

Running a stress test which maxes out the CPU, GPU, and screen brightness, I measured a latitude d820 battery life of 2 hours and 14 minutes. This represents the absolute lower limit. Under normal usage like word processing, web browsing, and a little light movie-watching you can expect times of about 4 hours or possibly even longer.

The dell latitude d820 battery features a thoughtful external indicator that consists of five LEDs to indicate the approximate charge of the pack. This allows you to determine how much dell battery you have left without booting the notebook.

I was in the market to buy a new laptop earlier this year and I came down to comparing to machines: the Dell XPS M1530 ( 9Cell Dell xps m1530 battery ) and the Apple MacBook Pro. I compared both of them to every aspect I could possibly come up with. Anyways both machines recently have received some upgrades so I thought I should update both comparison lists for those of you who might be looking for a new 15-inch notebook.

I gave Apple a point for the Screen since they offer a non-glossy option which I truly prefer due to glare. Dell was expected to push out a LED screen over a month ago, however it hasn’t happened yet. The body of the MacBook Pro is cleaner, simpler, and lighter compared to the XPS 1530. In terms of Operating Systems, if you want OS X Leopard, chances are you won’t be able to get it working on a XPS; however it should a breeze to install Vista/XP on a MacBook Pro with Boot Camp. Leopard can use 4GB of RAM; however you’ll need 64-bit editions of Vista or XP to utilize all of it. Dell offers many more options for HDDs including a 64GB SSD which would be unusual for a 15-inch laptop. Dell also lets you turn your XPS into a Blu-ray player with an optional Blu-ray read/write drive which is great for watching high definition movies. I was irritated to find out that the XPS didn’t have gigabit Ethernet, which is great for transferring large files on a local network, especially when most new laptops have it. Apple won the keyboard war with its beautiful backlit keyboard with an ambient light sensor. However the XPS makes up with a Finger Print Sensor, which is great for bypassing typing passwords when people are around, and a better Web Camera. The XPS comes with a media remote control which tucks away into the express card slot while Apple now charges an additional $20 for their Front Row remote. The XPS M1530 can also be configured with a Sprint or Verizon mobile broadband card which will utilize the laptop’s antennas for better signal gain. I choose the 6-cell battery for XPS m1530 since it was the best one which didn’t stick out. It offered only 2.5 hours of work time while the MacBook Pro gets about 3 hours.

If you didn’t already notice, there’s one major factor I left out on the chart: price. This part is what made me make my final decision which was to go with the Dell M1530 (dell xps m1530 batteries). Dell offered a pretty good student discount in addition to their constant promotions. Apple also offers such discounts, but are incomparable to what Dell offers. With both configured to the highest similar specifications, the MacBook Pro was getting very close to $3000 while the Dell XPS was about $500 cheaper costing about $2500. In addition for those of you on a strict budget like I was, there’s more flexibility to remove unneeded components with the Dell to bring the price down. Anyways, that’s my two cents so please feel free to make comments.

Let’s be honest: The D250 isn’t exactly the flashiest of netbooks. The sleek lines and brushed aluminum palm rest certainly add a touch of class, but it’s not the sort of machine that’s going to turn a lot of heads. (Except, perhaps, to gawk at the multitude of fingerprints adorning the lid. Why anyone continues to make portable devices with glossy coatings is totally beyond me.)

But head-turner or no, in terms of function it’s exceptionally well put together.

Two USB ports adorn the right edge, along with the power jack, locking mechanism, and memory card slot. The left side gets another USB port — a very sensible design choice — as well as headphone and mic connectors, VGA out, and an Ethernet jack. That lineup may not be earth-shaking, but it’s a generous selection of I/O options given the extremely limited real estate; the space on the sides is barely half an inch thick — thin enough that it has to bell out very slightly to accommodate the VGA connector.

But this is why I got this machine, you know: It’s just ridiculously thin and light. The official measurements are as follows: 10.2″ (258.5mm) W x 7.2″ (184.0mm) D x 1.0” (25.4) H, with a weight of 2.8 lbs. (1.27 kg) with my six-cell battery. (Acer claims the three-cell version is 2.4 lbs., or 1.1 kg.) Now, as I showed in my initial impressions, that thickness measurement is slightly misleading: Thanks to the bulk and angle of the battery, the 6-cell version actually breaks 1.25″ at the hinge, albeit barely. It’s hard to complain too much about that extra quarter-inch, but if thickness is absolutely paramount for you, you should know you may need to pop off the battery to get it to its thinnest form.

At at least one point during the day, for one to two hours, I’d turn on WiFi and check e-mail, go online to research some facts for my previews, and turn those notes into full write-ups.

So on average the machine would get about two to two and a half hours of very light-power-consumption use, and then another one to two hours of heavy WiFi and web access. And yet, there wasn’t a single day when the power meter reported less than 60 percent power remaining by the end of the day.

It’s hard to appreciate how useful this is until you realize that without the fear of a acer aspire one battery going out on you you can take all your notes via typing rather than longhand. There’s a very, very large difference between hoping you’ll have enough acer aspire one d250 battery life to get you through your day, and having no doubt whatsoever that you will.

lets start with reinstalling the wireless drivers / software on the laptop.
open device manager by rightclicking my computer and select manage.
on the left side select device managerthen on the right side, find network adapters, open it from the + markright click on the wireless adapter and select uninstall.

Want to know how much juice a 9 cell MSI Wind battery’s got in it? About 7.5 hours worth. At least, that’s how long the folks at Laptop Magazine were able to squeeze out of the pre-release, Mugen 9 cell MSI Wind battery they tested.
Laptop tests batteries by running a script that emulates typical computer usage, so I tend to believe their battery life estimates.
The downside of this particular laptop battery is that it’s enormous compared to the 3 or 6 cell batteries that MSI ships with its Wind netbooks. It’s also heavier. The MSI Wind with a 9 cell battery weighs 3.2 pounds. With a 6 cell battery the weight drops down to 2.6 pounds, while the 3 cell version weighs just 2.3 pounds.
On the other hand, the Asus Eee PC 1000H weighs 3.2 pounds with a 6 cell battery. So if you can deal with the way this battery adds some bulk to the bottom of your netbook, you can have a netbook with 7.5 hours of battery life that weighs the same amount as a netbook that only gets 4.5 to 5 hours of juice. And as Kevin Tofel and I discovered, it’s hard to really discern the differnce between 2.6 and 3.2 pounds. They’re both pretty darn light when compared with a typical 5 or 6 pound laptop.
There’s another downside to this particular battery though. Laptop Magazine reports that it will sell for a whopping $180, which is kind of ridiculous, when you can pick up an MSI Wind netbook for as low as $350.
