For those who missed the entry over on our sister blog devoted to Prim Perfect, the creatrix of the PP family witnessed a most unusual event in Caledon:

A Volcanic Eruption.

Over on the new Caledonian sim of the St. Kitt Islands(SLURL link), a party was interrupted by the rude and "unexpected" volcanic pyrotechnics. Saffia has all the first hand details:

Air Combat this Saturday the 9th and Sunday the 10th

Attention EDF and RCAF pilots!

We'll meet at Skies of Tomorrow 9:00 AM SL Time. I'll lead on Saturday, ACM Sin Trenton leads us on Sunday.

Sin and I have discussed new rules for our organized dogfights. These rules are approved by Marshal Zoe Connolly.

Dogfights will be restricted to airplane flight only (no hovering craft) with a TCS max of 10HP. If the Ju-87 has 15, that is acceptable. Read more and feel free to comment at the RCAF Ning page: http://rcafhq.ning.com/

Hello again!

Things have been busy here in the Primgraph, with preparations for issues (both of Prim Perfect and the Primgraph), and other doings here and there.

While it may be the "dog days of summer" there is fun and adventures out there amongst our friends and allies.

For example, Dr. Fabre tells us about the growth of the shops in the Mermaid Arcade in Port Babbage.

You may have seen the news on Prim Perfect's blog, but Elrik Merlin gives his own view to Miss Emilin Nakamori's remarkable invention of a non scripted mechanism.

Murakami Steamworks, fine purveyors of ironclad ships, has announced that they are now making third generation ironclads, the MSS Tyrann, the MSS Kotetsu and the MSS Lavanco, available. And apparently 4th generation ships are in the works, too.

"Gimpgirl" Fundraiser in Caledon

Mr Ederyn Clowes tells me that yesterday he stopped in at the Victorians with Disabilities Dance at Caledon Carntaigh. Though he couldn't stay long, he learned the event was a fundraiser for an SL community called GimpGirl, really an extention of an older aethernet community (see link) for women with disabilities. The SL group is run by JennyLin Arashi and Aleja Asurias.

In SL, they have their own island - Mr Clowes was able to visit it briefly today (he says it is worth seeing), and learned from Miss Asurias that although the land is donated, they still need to raise money for SL and RL expenses. This is, certainly, another worthy cause to keep in mind!

RCAF Dogfight in Extropia

Pilots of the RCAF and EDF will meet at the Skies of Tomorrow sim in Extropia on Saturday 02 August 2008 at 9:00 AM SLT for a dogfight.

We'll have air combat for approximately 45 minutes.

Our theme is : "Fly Your Favorite"

As always, one-on-one dogfights are welcome in Extropia and select void-sim duchies in Caledon.

The Art of the Press Release

While an almost-monthly magazine is perhaps not the best venue for publicity, we here at The Primgraph believe that our publication can be a useful resource for Second Life Residents. Therefore, we wish to encourage the businesses and social organizers of our audience to keep us informed of upcoming events!

We cannot guarantee to mention every bit of news we receive, but as we cannot be everywhere or see everything, it could be helpful to us - and to you - if you bring your news to our attention.

What, then, should such a press release contain?

A clear statement of what the event is, including its official name.
Information on its location, including an SLURL.
The date (as, Saturday 2nd August) and time (in SLT).
Contact information for The Primgraph to use.
Contact information for the public to use, if applicable.
A few lines of appropriately boosterish description.
An aethernet site at which the public may acquire additional information, if applicable.

Avoiding typographical errors of all sorts is highly recommended.

Press releases may be sent to us as Notecards to me (Alesia Markstein) or via e-mail to Primgraph.Editor@gmail.com.

The next issue is anticipated to appear towards the end of August.

Hi all!

I'm sure you've already devoured our first edition of the Primgraph. Our editrix Miss Markstein has slaved over it with all the attention that a finicky coal burning steam engine in the depths of a pneumatically controlled subway system requires...

Anyway, you probably also heard about SL's recent Relay for Life and the staff of PP and the Primgraph were tied up with that, too! There were so many sims for Relay for Life that not even our staff could see every inch of the builds!

So, our first link up is to Virrginia Tombolla, who tells us about something I definitely missed in my own explorative reporting in the Relay--a steamboat.

On a personal note, a look over at what Radio Riel is doing has revealed that Gabrielle Riel has announced an engagement to Lady Azul Draken. I suspect that when the handfasting occurs, in September, there will be a flurry of invitations and fetes surrounding this event. As if Caledonians *need* any excuse to throw a party!

Oh, and the original reason why I checked the aethernet over at Radio Riel, I have found out that, today, is the Romeo and Juliet Renaissance Ball at 2:30 SLT in Caledon Carntaigh. Unfortunately, I already have plans, or else your dedicated reporter and blogger would certainly be there!

The new magazine from Prim Perfect Publications, The Primgraph, officially launches today. Aimed at Residents interested in post-Renaissance historical and steampunk sims, it includes articles on related events, profiles of relevant sims and venues, historical and technical articles, fiction, and more!

We’re celebrating with a formal ball at The Gaiety Theatre in Caledon Penzance, TODAY (Wednesday 23 July) from 2 to 4 p.m. SLT. Put on your dancing shoes, come by, and pick up an inworld-readable copy of the magazine and (if you like) a vendor!

Doings by Caledonians

Hello all!

Although I haven't had as much time within SL as I might have liked lately, much of my position and job here is to reference you to the other things that people are doing, places and events that you can go experience for yourself.

Or sometimes, anyway. For example, the good Duke of Argylle, Edward Pearse, managed a visit to the mysterious and transitory village of Brigadoon, complete with a picture for proof. I myself have never seenBrigadoon in Caledon just yet, so I am envious.

Eladrienne has recently had interesting adventures in Mini Steelhead. You might have espied a picture of Steelhead in our own blog here. As far as what will be in the Primgraph...well, you will just have to wait for the issue and see for yourself.

As Ms. Markstein kindly introduced me, I am Jvstin Tomorrow. While I am a reporter for Prim Perfect, investigating sims and talking to designers, my role here on the Primgraph is going to be slightly different.

On the Primgraph blog, I will be monitoring and reading the aetheric scribbles of other publications devoted to the Victorian portions of Second Life, and bringing awareness of interesting finds to you, our gentle readers.

I look forward to finding some real gems of interest to bring to the attention of you, our gentle readers.

Welcome to the "new" Connolly Telegraph

Gentle Readers,

Due to the generosity of Miss Zoe Connolly, “The Connolly Telegraph” has now become the official Aethernet presence of The Primgraph, the new magazine devoted to the Second Life world’s historical sims (1740s-1920s). We hope that Miss Connolly will be able to stop by and contribute from time to time, as her military duties permit.

This blog will, like that of our sister publication Prim Perfect, be a source of news both about The Primgraph and about topics of interest to our readers. In particular, Jvstin Tomorrow will be looking through relevant blogs and community news for items to re-post here, just as Miss Connolly used to do, beginning next week.

In the meantime, please allow me to explain a little more about The Primgraph. The purpose of the magazine is to provide news and information to the community of Residents involved in sims that seek to replicate the look and feel of the several historic epochs that occurred between the years 1740 and 1930.

This description is not, I must point out, intended to prohibit “steampunk” locales – to the contrary: we look forward to publishing articles about Caledon, New Babbage, Steelhead, and so forth. The range of our interests, like that of our readers, will include both dedicated role-playing sims such as Deadwood, and those that are less stringent about roles and historical verisimilitude. At present, the only non-English-based sim of which we are aware is Paris 1900, but we would be happy to see that change.

Our currently established Departments include:

Arts and Culture
Fashion
Society
Technology.

Our byword will be “variety” – we want to produce articles on as wide a range of subjects as possible. If you think you might be interested in writing for The Primgraph, please contact me (Alesia Markstein) via IM or notecard, and I can provide you with a more detailed description of our interests, as well as invitations to join our inworld Group and our Ning networking group. Potential advertisers should contact Miss Diva Regina in the same manner.

The July 2008 issue of The Primgraph is in production now, but there is still time for us to include your article – or your favourite sim’s news, if you would like to pass that along. We look forward to hearing from you!

"....I spent an entertaining evening over at Antiquity last night, indulging myself in a sea battle with Chase Speculaas style Brigantines.

For once, I was content to let someone else pilot her ship.. I was in a restful mood, so volunteered to be gunner for her.

The rules of the engagement were simplicity itself. Fight your ship until it goes incapacitated. Then rez a rowboat and seek to board other ships.

Not surpsingly, as she sailed between a broadside on either side of her ship, my Cap'n was soon presiding over an incapacitated ship, herself. We took to the ship's boats and went looking for something to kill...."

All participants will meet at the Connolly Aerodrome in Caledon Penzance at 10:00 AM SL time on Saturday May 3rd or Sunday May 4th (or both days if you prefer) for what may be the biggest air battle ever fought by tiny avatars!

Radio Riel: From the Library - A Night to Remember

"....Today in our series From the Library we bring you a selection of music that would likely have been familiar to the well-to-do ladies and gentlemen of the Victorian and Edwardian eras, with a programme ranging from Viennese waltzes to popular songs of the last years of the 19th century and the first decade of the 20th: some from the original recordings; most from modern recordings that recreate the atmosphere of the times. From visits to the Ball, the dance-hall, the theatre or the music hall, to soirées at home around the piano, these were indeed the nights of memories. Some songs are quite poignant, like Give Me A Ticket To Heaven, which juxtaposes steam technology with sentimentality in a uniquely Victorian way.

But the phrase "A Night to Remember" recalls something else too. On April 14, 1912, just over 97 years ago to the day, the RMS Titanic struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic and sank the next day with the loss of over 1,500 lives, making it the worst peacetime seafaring disaster in history. There has been a great deal of discussion - and even controversy - about the last piece of music that the eight-member band played on that fateful night, when the musicians helped keep up the spirits of passengers and crew, continuing to play even after it became evident that the ship was going to sink with terrible loss of life, likely including their own...."
