BRIT NEWS: Sir Bobby Robson has died. I never agreed with all he did for football. One of the first to buy foreign players for his team, in my view it was the game’s death. A team that carries a city’s name, but has few players from there is a fraud. And the massive increase in pay and spin-offs turned the game into a business. This said, his career as a football manager held disappointments and marvelous victories in a rollercoaster ride that kept the nation enthralled. And he was also a true gentleman – rare in the business of football. For this he will be sadly missed.

BRIT NEWS: The Home Secretary has been asked whether Al Qaeda sympathizers could have infiltrated MI5. Such a possibility will cause the obvious shock and horror, especially when I’d say it is inevitable. Such organizations cannot possibly be as secure as we would like, and throughout the history of spying, the Mole has been a regular visitor. Don’t people remember the Cold War, the double agents such as the Burgess, Philby, etc? So if we’re told there are no ‘sympathisers’, I’d advice them to look again.

BRIT NEWS: A teaching union blames parents for problems in schools. In many cases, quite true, but those parents are the first generation who were taught rights over duties by those same schools. The words pot, kettle and black come to mind.

Round and round destruction goes,
When will it end? Who knows;
Societies crumple thru illicit thought,
What a nerve, ending in naught;
Maybe we dream of the perfect world,
waiting for Utopia to be unfurled?
Problem is, if we could ever afford,
There’d be nothing to do!
We’d end up bored

We are what we know, and we know what the media allows us to know, but how free is this process? Advertising has become the biggest income for the media. So answer me a question: would you advertise in a media-form offering a message you didn’t like? Of course not – and that’s how Big Biz makes sure you only know what they want you to know.

Paranormal events may well happen, but what defines them? Looking at the various ‘entities’ of the past – ghosts, fairies, vampires, etc – they all have many characteristics in common. Maybe the thing that separates what we see is the cultural expectation of what we believe we will see.

Intellectuals seem to spend so much time falling out with each other nowadays. It’s as if debate is out of date. I blame unbridled individuality. Scripture defines more than religion. It also defines time. Through media, our entire year is based around the life of Christ. It used to be kept alive by daily Biblical doses, defining who we were. We should remember this process ‘cos it still exists today. Typical is the Soap Opera, giving us a daily dose of how we should live.
