Many of the players responsible for the accomplishment are back again. So why isn't Kansas being tagged as a Top 10 preseason team by most of the preseason polls? Because the schedule gets a major upgrade as Texas and Oklahoma dot a list they were not on last fall. But savvy QB Todd Reesing returns after being one of the biggest surprises of a year ago while tossing 33 TDs and racking up 3,486 yards in this up-tempo spread offense. His big weapons will continue to be receivers Dexton Fields, Dezmon Briscoe and former QB Kerry Meier, who eventually turned into a dangerous utility player throwing, catching and running from numerous positions. The run game will have to work without big FB/TB Brandon McAnderson however. But TB Jake Sharp is no slouch and Jocques Crawford, the JUCO Offensive Player of the Year arrives this August. The interior of the OL is bolstered by senior center Ryan Cantrell but two new tackles will have to be found to protect Reesing. All but two starters are back on defense. The LBs may be the team's best-stocked unit with three returning starters who are all seniors. Joe Mortensen anchors the middle and is a top candidate for the Butkus Award. Five ends who rotated all season long, three safeties that did the same and two CBs who both saw plenty of action return. Although replacing top NFL draft pick Aqib Talib on the corner won't be that easy. This team probably won't go 12-1 again with the major upgrade of the schedule. But they will win eight to ten games and continue to put Lawrence and head coach Mark Mangino on a top rated pedestal.

Second year coach Gene Chizik is attempting to build this program from the ground up. His 3-9 campaign last fall showed as much and this 2008 bunch will have to work though the loss of some quality seniors. Two sophomores are fighting for the right to replace Bret Meyer and his 48 consecutive starts at QB. The best bet for now is local boy Austen Arnaud who has seen some reps and brings quicker feet to the table. The OL broke in four new starters a year ago and returns this season as a solid building block for the offense. The run game has not been proving to be very effective. But returning leading rusher Alexander Robinson and senior Jason Scales, who started five games in '07, give the Cyclones a double option. Chizik is a former defensive coordinator who wants to turn up the heat on this side of the ball. He will have to do it without big DT Athyba Rubin and the two top tacklers on the team in Alvin Bowen and Jon Banks, who were the heart at LB last fall. The pass rush should be fine on the outside with experience at DE, but the middle has some serious questions. The better news is that the secondary should be much improved with all four starters returning from a year where the Big 12 battle tested these junior and senior DBs. This is not anywhere near one of the elite teams in the conference. Iowa State will be seeking a new identity that doesn't bode well for immediate results. Bettering the fifth place finish of a year ago in the North Division is going to be difficult with a new QB and a group of receivers lacking a go-to playmaker.

In this his third season the progression is slowly moving forward since the 2-10 major disappointment of his rookie season. This is still a young football team and their improvements may not be seen in 2008 from a final record standpoint since the conference has elevated the competition and the non-conference schedule includes Florida State and West Virginia. Sophomore Cody Hawkins, the son of the head coach, is still taking the snaps at QB after struggling much of his frosh season. He started to pick up his play the last four games of a year ago while finishing the bowl game against Alabama with over 300 yards passing. The Buffs have installed a shotgun-dominated, no-huddle offense this spring and the players love it. Three new starters will adorn the OL and the running game will feature another newbie in Darrell Scott, the nation's No. 1 prep RB of the 2008 class. The receivers have now become strength after being a sore spot the past few years. Josh Smith, who averaged 19.6 yards per catch, is the fastest man on the team. This may be the conference's best run defense with Preseason All-American George Hypolite and All-Big 12 honoree Brandon Nicolas anchoring the middle of the DL. The problem is stopping the high-powered passing attacks in the Big 12 while only getting 19 sacks last season. The DEs will have to regroup with a committee of younger, unproven faces. The plight won't get any easier as two new corners enter the fold but the safeties, as well as the DT position, are the strength of the defense. This is kinda a toss up...I think the best bet at this point is to go with a guard. The best guard available is Derek Rose without a doubt. I know the Bulls have guards but the NBA has turned into a little mans game . Point and case CP3....New orleans would be nothing without him. I don't think Derek will be at that level but there is a good chance he will be a very good floor leader. He has a great knack for getting into the paint and getting other players good shots.

Playing on the bubble isn’t easy. You have to balance your desire to survive with your need to gain more chips. You have to be guarded when you go up against ultra-aggressive players, but at the same time, you need to be extra aggressive against opponents that are playing and super-tight. If you see some players enter into survival mode, start stealing their blinds. Avoid confrontations with the big stack at the table. Don’t over commit to a deceptive move. Just play smart, tight poker and be aggressive when you have good cards or when you’re up against players who are holding on for dear life. When You Attempt to Steal Blinds, Target the Middle-Range Stacks
Stealing blinds late in the tournament is mandatory if you want to accumulate chips and improve your chances of making it to the money. When you go after the blinds, do it from late position, and don’t try to target the small stacks. You’ll likely be met with an all-in call (unless the player is in ultra-survival mode). Don’t take on the big stacks either. These players have enough chips to call your pot stealing bets. By going after the middle-range stacks, you’ll be more likely to force a fold. If you want to finish in the money, you need to be patient. Online poker tournaments are like marathons. If you want to remain competitive, you need to keep pace with the pack. As soon as your chip stack starts to lag behind the competition, you need to loosen up your game. Play smart poker when you’re on the bubble. If you can balance timely, targeted aggression with tight play, you’ll increase your overall tournament earnings. Just practice switching gears so that you can close out your tourney the right way.

At first glance I was like there is no way the Lakers are going to lose, but after thinking about it a bit I think the Celtics have a real chance if they don't lose game 1...losing game 1 will put some doubt in there head about whether they can really accomplish this. I think they can if there roll players play well. I think bench play will be huge in this series.

Wisconsin is again the elite of the Big Ten. Another Big Ten championship and another Big Ten tournament championship game. This team just keeps doing it without a superstar. To me if they don't get a # 2 seed in the big dance it is a disgrace. They will be a nightmare for any team that plays a up tempo type of style. Either way I see the Bucky giving the big boys some trouble before they leave the tournament.

Who is going to win the Big Ten ?

Guys this race is going to come right down to the end....Wisconsin and Purdue....Wisconsin has coasted through the Big Ten only losing to Purdue twice....witch is saying alot about Purdue....a win at Wisconsin where they have only lost like 10 times in the Big ten under Bo Ryan. On the other hand Pudue is absolutly loaded with hard working ball players. Plus I haven't seen a team play defense like they do in a long time... maybe since Wisconsin had Dick Bennett as coach. I think when it all said and done Purdue is the better team.

We will have to wait and see....should be a good ending to Big Ten basketball season...
