Full Transaction Database on Excel

Hi all,
You asked for it, we listened. Today, we're launching a standalone product that has all the mutual fund transactions in it since 2006. The product comes in Excel or comma delimited format and can easily be imported into your spreadsheet, database or other analytical application.

It is important to know what the funds are buying and selling, and you get this data on our site every day. For those of you who want more than that, the historical database is the perfect way to dive deeper into data to do trends, graphs and all sorts of other analysis.

Hi Everyone,

First, we moved our blog to a bona fide blogging platform so it's easier for everyone to read and subscribe. I've posted the previous blogs below.

Second, we have a cool new quick feature. It's called Notes. When you log into thebuylist.com you'll see a small icon on the top right corner:

Well, when you click on this icon, it opens a window for you to add your notes about the stock you're viewing. That way, when you revisit the same page and click on the notes icon, it'll show you what you wrote before.

We thought this is a pretty intuitive way to keep track of your stock research. And you can do it quickly and easily without opening new browser windows, leaving the site, etc.

So check it out today!

Hi everyone,
We have some exciting improvements that we've been working on for quite some time. The first one is the Hedge Fund transaction database. You've all been asking for it and we built it. This section will work a little different and in some ways better than the mutual fund database. It will be updated more frequently and the number of hedge funds will grow over time.

The second major addition is the Enterprise Solutions offering. Those of you who've been a subscriber know that we've been collecting and analyzing mutual fund transactions going back to 2006 now. We've launched a new product that gives you full access to this database with pre-built Excel reports. To learn more, click on the Enterprise link above.

The third major improvement happened on the technical side of things. We've transitioned into bigger and more powerful servers to serve you better. And you might have noticed the slight change in the look and feel. We're constantly working to improve the usability of our site.

Hi everyone,
We're excited to announce some new features which are significant add-ons to the site.
The site now has a menu on the top that contains the links to the new features.

INDUSTRY ANALYSIS
Under this section, we provide industry level buy/sell data. All the stocks in a given industry is summarized and an overall buy/sell percentage is presented. Non-subscribers get a free preview of an industry. Subscribers get all the industries.

RANKS and RATINGS
Each stock in our database now has a rank and a rating. The stocks are ranked based on the total transaction volume on the stocks and the number of fund managers who bought them. As of the last update, AT&T (T) is ranked #1 which means the most number of mutual fund managers bought T at the highest level of transaction volume.

Ratings are numbers from 1 to 10. This number is derived from the BUY percentage of a stock. So if a stock is bought 80% by the top managers, meaning, 80% of their transactions were BUY's, that stock will have a rating of 8.0. Ratings and rankings are different things, but they compliment one another. For example a stock might have a rating of 10 but a ranking of 750. What that means is while all the transactions on that stock were BUY's (100%), there are 749 stocks that were bought by more fund managers at higher transactions.

Charts and Research is the old Portfolio Charts and My Account section is where you build your watchlists and portfolios.

Hi everyone,

Been a while since my last update and we have some news and some very exciting new features.

First, we made a decision to move to a subscription-based service. For those of you who had been with us since the beginning, you have a free ride until January 2008. The feedback from the market had been very good. Our page views reach 10-15k per day some days with 3-4k unique visitors. (We launched back in November, 2006)

Second, we have added a very cool new feature. Many sites have portfolio building capabilities and in some sites, you can see expert portfolios too. Well, we built a portfolio feature based on our platform. You can build a portfolio or look at some expert portfolios and see what the mutual funds did on those stocks. It gives you a very quick picture of the portfolio if you want to compare it to the mutual funds. So we looked at Cramer's picks and here's what it gave us:

For each stock, the blue area is the percentage of BUY transactions executed by mutual funds and the red area is the SELL transactions.

We also ran a query in the system to see if there are any stocks that were 100% buys or 100% sells and there were! We set up a special portfolio for those, too.

Happy new year everyone!

We added a cool new feature. You can now see summary data for each stock on the very first page. It looks like this:

We have some very cool features coming up in this area. For example, if you want to know if there are stocks that are bought by several funds but not sold, you'll be able to see that with one click. Stay tuned!

We finished enhancing the watchlist feature. Now, when you're looking at a list of transactions, you can add a stock or fund to your watchlist on-the-spot by clicking on + Add. This feature allows you to add any stock/fund to any one of your lists. Of course, you can always add stocks manually by logging in your profile.

We just added a new feature which we think you'll really like. You can now login to thebuylist.com and create a watchlist of stocks and funds. When we update our database, you'll receive emails if there's activity on the stocks or funds on your watchlist. So if a fund manager loads up on your pick or dumps it, we'll let you know.

We also have recent data updates, so take a look at the new data and the new features, and click on a fund name when you're researching a stock. It'll take you to a screen where you'll see some historical activity. For instance, on GOOG, Janus Advisor Forty S fund added 59k as of the update on 11/8 and another 14.5k after that. http://www.thebuylist.com/drillbyfund.aspx?SYMBOL=JARTX&STOCK=goog

We added a cool new feature. When you click on a fund name on the main screen, it takes you to a page that shows some historical data based on that fund and the stock you did the search for.

So if you look at the transactions for ORCL, and then click on CHASX, you'll see that CHASX bought 2mil shares as of the update that happened on 11/8 and sold 53,400 shares as of 11/13. They also bought 28,000 shares of LMT and then another 80,900 shares. So this gives you an idea about what the fund managers are doing in terms of their positions.

After our initial launch, we've received tremendous feedback from the readers and that got us even more excited to expand the capabilities. As you are aware, thebuylist.com provides a unique stock transaction database which allows you to query fund buys or sells. We do updates once or twice a week. Our database contains recent transactions as well as historical transactions.

Here's what we're looking to add soon:
- Portal functionality
- My List functionality - You'll be able to add stocks to your list and when a fund manager buys or sells them, we'll let you know via email
- Premium features - Ability to query historical data
- Commentary - Our analysts will tell you the underlying stories. Maybe a fund recently sold all of its MSFT and bought ORCL. You'll hear about that under the commentary.
