Having a horse as a pet is many a young person’s dream, but only the fortunate (and well off) are able to realise it. There are a number of reasons for this, which stem mainly from the fact that they can be such an expensive acquisition in the first place. You can expect to pay anything from £1000 and upwards, depending on the size, age and any training the horse has had. Some may argue that you can end up paying just about as much for a pedigree standard dog; this is true, but the initial outlay for such a pet dwarfs any other costs likely to be incurred by owning it. This cannot be said for a horse. The cost of purchasing a horse can often be a lot less than the cost of a year’s maintenance. Unlike other pets, horses cannot be kept in the house, which means that suitable accommodation must be found - they need shelter and warmth 24/7, 365 days a year. Owners rarely have their own facilities to be able to provide this, and so have to rent ‘accommodation’ nearby. This must also include plenty of space for them to exercise in when not being ridden. Horses need regular veterinary attention, and at least once a year have to be vaccinated against various diseases, as well as having routine dental work carried out. Horses also need regular hoof care, every six to eight weeks, which is undertaken by a blacksmith, and involves the trimming and/or replacement of their shoes. As is common with most pets, medical emergencies can mean bills which run into the thousands, so pet insurance is an absolute must for a horse.

Other than financial concerns, there is also a lot of work that goes into looking after these animals. A typical horse owner’s day may start at dawn, when the stable they are kept in needs mucking out and the straw/hay bedding replaced with fresh supplies. They then have to be let out for their daily exercise, before being brought back in later, and secured safely for the night. Horses need to be groomed every day, which can be a very relaxing experience for them and a good chance to get to know the horse for you. The benefits of having a horse are substantial; they can be ridden at your leisure, rather than at the set times a riding school may hire them to you. They can also be entered into shows, which can be a great day out for all the family, and especially the rider and horse themselves.

Despite the heavy costs, both in terms of time and money, involved with keeping a horse as a pet, the experience can hugely rewarding, for they bring a lot of joy to the people who own them. Horse riding is a lot of fun, and is a great hobby for many people up and down the country; it encourages children to enjoy the outdoors, rather than being sat inside all day blowing things up on their computer games!

The personalities didnt mix and there was no chance at any chemistry developing. I say developing only because chemistry comes in two different packages. There is immediate chemistry where there are fireworks from the minute you start talking. Then there is that chemistry that takes a few encounters to develop with that woman.

The one plus about meeting women through people you know is that its more of a warmer environment for you versus the venturing out philosophy. When you venture outside of your "social network", youre doing what I compare to cold calling in the sales world. You approach women, not knowing anything about them, whereas when youre hooked up by virtue of your friends, most of the time they know a little bit about her to give you some description or possibly history. The screening process has been done so you dont have to go through that ordeal.

Sometimes, you may wind up dating someone who is involved or has a boyfriend. She may be in a relationship, but she may not be happy, so give her a reason to think that she could be happier with you. But just remember, never let your alligator mouth overload your hummingbird butt. In other words, be able to back up your claims at being better than what she has.

Giant Merck, a major growth stock for 50 years has seen that growth slowing down along with Pfizer and the rest of the major drug companies. Merck has latched onto a new strategy to build sales again, but it's not just Merck and Pfizer that are suffering. The major pharmaceutical companies around the world are in a slowdown, and panic is starting to set into the executive suite.

Some of these companies are now doing in the tens of billions of dollars per year in sales. The drug industry is the most profitable industry in the world today bar none. The returns on invested capital, and profit margins are extraordinary

President Bush, and the then Republican Congress created the prescription drug program for seniors in an attempt to reverse the tide for these companies. The drug manufacturers have been a major contributor to the Republican Party for more than a decade. Both Merck, and Pfizer have begun downsizing their sales forces in response to the slow down.

The problem for these companies is that they have gotten so big in terms of their sales bases, that they are having great difficulty generating new drugs on a scale that can compensate for the slowdown of their current portfolio of drugs. In addition many of these fabulous drugs currently being sold are going off patent protection, and that means a collapse in sales revenues. Once the generics take over, than it's over for the original creator of the drug.

What has Merck done NOW?

Merck has created a new cervical-cancer vaccine. The American Cancer Society tells us that a little more than 11000 women this year will be told by their doctors that they have this terrible disease. What's worse is that more than 3500 of those women will eventually succumb to it.

Let's put this in perspective. About 180,000 women this year will be told they have breast cancer. About 40,000 of these previously diagnosed women will eventually die from breast cancer, and its complications. Between 8 times and 10 times the number of women who die from breast cancer, will die from heart disease this year. As you know breast cancer gets all the publicity compared to the other two diseases.

This new anti cervical-cancer vaccine is a wonderful creation,and everyone at Merck who participated in its creation should feel great pride in their work. What about the executives, and marketing people at Merck. Well, that's a different story. Merck has decided to attempt to force the use of this vaccine onto every female pre-teenager, and teenager in America. They are pulling out all the stops in an attempt to influence every legislator they can find to mandate this vaccination be given to children regardless of their parent's wishes.

Merck got TEXAS on board first

Could you believe it? Merck got Texas Governor Rick Perry to sign an executive order. Such an order negates the need for the Texas legislature to get involved. This order will require every young girl in Texas to receive the Merck vaccination Gardasil at $360 for three shots of the vaccine, and yes all three are needed. You are probably aware that there is a measles-mumps vaccine that has been on the market for years. The measles shot costs only $43 per dose by comparison.

The way the deal works in Texas is that unless you can demonstrate proof that you have taken the shots, you are not going to be allowed to go to school. At the moment it looks like your health insurance is going to pick up the cost, but of course there are millions upon millions of uninsured young people in this country. Who is going to pay for them? Apparently a former Chief of Staff to Governor Perry is a lobbyist for Merck, which is the same thing as saying she works for Merck, isn't it. It's amazing what a couple of dollars paid to a lobbyist can achieve.

Merck hiring lobbyists EVERYWHERE

When Merck's back is to the wall, Merck knows how to respond. Merck is feeling the heat from a number of drugs going off patent, and is therefore pulling out all the stops to systematically have each state mandate the use of this vaccine. The states that are currently considering forcing pre-teenage girls to take this vaccine are:

The question now becomes how many lobbyists will Merck hire, and how many legislators will receive political contributions in order to create state mandated programs that will result in billions of dollars of this vaccine being sold. There is also the issue of the safety of the vaccine.

When the clinical trials were done, the participants were mostly older women. Only a small minority of the participants were teenagers, yet teenagers are the target market. Without a much broader test of the teenage market, it may be too early to tell if there is a problem. The vaccine is being rolled out in massive quantities in the interim.

Merck and the hit major drug manufacturers are in a state of decline. Their in-house research laboratories can no longer create the drug stream that is necessary to sustain them at their current levels. They are also cutting drug reps by the thousands. These are the good looking men and women with master's degrees that know more about these drugs than the doctors who prescribe them. They visit doctors incessantly, buying them lunches, giving away pads, pens, and gifts in an attempt to convince the good doctor why he should be prescribing certain drugs.

The growth ahead seems to be in the young and middle stage biotech companies that do their research differently than Big Pharma. The biotech research facilities are routinely located in direct vicinity of major college campuses which are receiving billions of dollars of funding from the taxpayer through the National Institute of Health.

If Big Pharma is to effectively compete against the upstart biotech firms, than companies like Merck, Pfizer, and the others will have to continue to cut costs, and exert their political power in an attempt to align their goals with the goals of the federal government. After all, the largest user of drugs in the United States is Medicare / Medicaid recipients, and then the Veterans Administration. It looks like the next year or two is going to be mighty interesting for the old line drug manufacturers. Stay tune for more.

Ladies, tell me I am lying. Do not all husbands think they are an expert in ladies golf instruction? I have given literally thousands of ladies golf lessons and I always share this discussion very early in our teacher-student relationship. I tell them that they can forget everything that their husband has ever told them about golf instruction. Amazingly, I can see the tension roll out of their shoulders right away and in turn they relax.

Let me tell you the couple of "ladies golf lessons" you will hear from your husband and what to tell him to make him happy and let you practice and play golf!

Your hubby will say "keep your head down." This is just ridiculous! Golf is an athletic motion which requires your head to move in order to maximize results.

Every time I hear an amateur say "keep your head down" I picture someone in a golf stance with a player with their chin on their chest. This picture does not make me think that the golfer is very comfortable or ready to make an athletic motion. This example might be more extreme than you would like to have; however, Annika Sorenstam has been shown for years of not "keeping her head down." Until recently, she has been ranked the #1 female player in the world for several years.

While David Duval was also number one in the world, he had a very similar motion with releasing his head toward the target during impact. Attempting to keep your head still during the swing will often lead to other swing flaws such as a reverse pivot. A reverse pivot will lead to a loss of distance and direction.

Your hubby will say "keep your left arm straight." Now along with the picture from above with the player with their chin on your chest as they set up to the golf ball and now add a stiff straight left arm. Wow! There is no way they look comfortable or athletic. Giving credit where credit is due. Your husband is half (or maybe a quarter) right and I will tell you why. The golf swing is no place for tension to reside. The way he wants you to achieve the goal is to use tension to make it happen. This is wrong.

When you use tension, your muscles tighten or shorten and this makes you find a new path to return to impact because your arm is shorter. During the golf swing your left arm should remain extended not straight. Many people think that this is a play on words however it is two different things.

Take a swing and stop when your left arm is parallel to the ground on the backswing. Put a "death grip" on the club. This is your husband's "straight left arm." Now start over and again stop when your left arm is parallel to the ground and actually feel the weight of the club. Now you are extended and more importantly relaxed.

Finally, your husband wants to give you all of this great golf instruction advice. Right? How can you make him happy after the round at home but yet be able to not feel hassled the rest of the practice session or round? You can do this with one very simple sentence.

After he gives you unsolicited advice, simply reply "Thank you. That is exactly what I have been working on." It makes him feel important and typically ends or at least slows down his input. This simple sentence has worked many, many, many times and can work for you too!

That is not to say that those models who pose half naked in front of the motorcycles can't be real motorcycle babes, if they know there is more to who they are then guys gawking at them drooling half at them and half at the motorcycles that accompany them. Motorcycle babes know that even without the motorcycle they are someone. Motorcycle babes know that even though they don't need the bike to be noticed, they deserve the bike.

4. Thrill seekers

Real motorcycle babes are thrill seekers. They love the feel of the motorcycle under them riding down the highway. They aren't afraid of spreading their wings. When motorcycle babes are going down the highway they can feel the wind flapping all around them, they feel like they are flying. There is nothing better then knowing that you have complete control over this machine that has more power then any one person should possess. The vibrations from the motor and the curves in the road go through your entire body. Motorcycle babes feel alive.

Becky wants to do something really special for her mum, this Mother's Day - something to show her just how much she's loved and appreciated.

Becky and mum Jane have always been more like sisters than mother and daughter. They have the same wicked sense of humour, enjoy the same music and TV programmes, and even share the same clothes. Of course, there are always the predictable flowers and chocolates, but they seem a bit... well, tame for Jane. She's not really that sort of mum and anyway, she's hopeless at flower arranging and seems to be on a permanent diet. So that's no good.

Becky remembers a friend having raved to her about a spa break she'd had recently. Apparently, 'sparties' are the latest craze to sweep the nation - loads of fun and sure to appeal to a young-at-heart tearaway like Jane.

Without further ado, Becky's on the Internet, investigating the possibilities. This looks ideal; a night in a luxury serviced apartment near to the centre of Cheltenham. Booking is a piece of cake and now all that remains is for the two of them to pack their overnight bags and hit the road.

Cheltenham Spa is a stunning regency town and is perfectly positioned for visiting Bath, the Cotswolds and Stratford-upon-Avon. The town's main street, The Promenade, is considered to be one of the most beautiful in England, with a plethora of shops to visit. The one-bedroom serviced apartment is on the ground floor of an elegant regency building within the beautiful location of The Park, just a ten minute stroll away from the town centre and all the many delights that Cheltenham has to offer. Jane gasps in delighted disbelief when she enters the spotless and roomy, tastefully decorated apartment. It has a fully equipped kitchen with every appliance needed; washing machine, dishwasher, electric oven, gas hob, microwave and fridge freezer. There's a spacious, comfortable lounge with TV and CD/DVD player and a superb dining area with huge floor to ceiling windows, offering splendid views of the bustling street below. The shower room/WC has a smart white suite and decorative tiles, totally in keeping with the heritage of the building. They even have broadband internet access, although they both suspect that they'll have better things to do! A well-appointed, light and airy double bedroom boasts an invitingly soft bed. But no time for snoozing yet - it's off to the town for some 'girlie' shopping. It's a tough job, suggests Jane, but someone has to do it. Becky agrees.

Arm in arm, they set off on their mission for some serious retail therapy. Very shortly, they find themselves in the very fashionable area of Montpelier with its wealth of boutiques, bars and restaurants. Chatting excitedly over a glass of chilled white wine and a club sandwich, they plan their strategy - first some clothes shopping. Two hours later, Jane's laden with bags containing a number of designer outfits that she doesn't need but must have, and Becky's similarly encumbered. Laughing together, they conclude that it's not really an extravagance. They'll end up swapping things around anyway, so why worry? Before heading back to the apartment, there's just one more task to do - quite obviously, to get a few tasty snacks and the wherewithal for some punchy cocktails, in readiness for the evening ahead.

Back at the apartment, Jane decides that some music is needed to start the party - or 'sparty' - off with a swing. Choosing a suitably manic CD, she and Becky kick off their shoes and boogie around the lounge like a pair of lunatics, pausing just occasionally for the odd cocktail or vol-au-vent. Becky's a little concerned when Jane keeps increasing the volume, but as Jane reminds her, they can make as much noise as they like - it even said so in the details on the website. Becky has to accede to her mother's wisdom.

When the fully qualified spa specialist arrives at the apartment, the music becomes far more sedate and atmospheric. By soft candlelight, Jane and Becky are treated with a relaxing facial and a soothing hot stone back, neck and shoulder massage. This is ninety minutes of pure bliss that they don't want to end! By the time the therapist has taken her leave, they are both feeling deliciously relaxed and mellow. No aching muscles, no tension; simply a sense of tranquillity and well-being. Just a couple more cocktails and they're ready for bed, giggling and gossiping like school friends on a 'sleepover', until they finally drift into a deep, contented slumber.

In the morning, Jane is still refreshed and rejuvenated from her luxury spa treatment, feeling remarkably supple for a woman of her age. The only slight snag is that she has the suspicion of a throbbing in her temples. Could be that she had one Harvey Wallbanger too many... but never mind, it was worth it...

One Day I saw them, our dream horses, and on that day I pulled over to the side of the road and cried. There they were, Appaloosas and roans and bays, and I thought I saw, squinting into the last bit of sunlight, a gray. All the horses moved together, a makeshift herd -- maybe they'd heard my car, or maybe it was a chill, the first winter breeze, almost imperceptible on a summer day. So many years later and now here they were in front of me. The horses trembled, shifted, and then became calm and separated out again, twelve or twenty of them, more than enough for the Alison and Kate Horse Training Company.

She saved me. That's the first thing you should know about Kate. It was the year we moved to Weston, the year my parents went haywire, the year my back started curving out of control as if it were the life of the party. She was five feet seven and had long brown hair bleached by the sun, and her father was an Egyptian emperor. Was he for real? Real enough for a small suburban dynasty. Real enough to pass on a legacy.

I think of Kate all the time. I think of her like I've got this little silver Egyptian cat in my pocket, a little silver talisman that won't go away. I think of her, and then I think of him, too, Tut Hamilton, sham shaman in suburbia. I can't forget him, any more than I can forget her.

The thing is, she saved me that year, and then it was my turn. That's what friendship is. That's how to make history.

I was thirteen when my parents and I moved to the fancy town of Weston from maligned and honorable Norwalk, two towns over. We were ready for anything, ready for the good things to start happening, and the first thing that went wrong was the blue room.

Mom wanted her studio to be blue, despite the fact that most painters prefer a room absent of color, a blank wall, a clean palette. She'd had a vision, you see, a dream of a blue room.

My father offered to paint the room for her, but she would choose the color, of course. She and I went to the paint store together.

"These men -- they're painting the world, creating color wheels, color contrasts, color inspirations -- without any real conception, no awareness at all, of what they're doing. They could be artists -- but no, no -- instead of using these glorious choices -- all the glory, all the opportunity, Alison -- they just sit around drinking coffee out of a thermos and painting houses tan, tan, and tan again. How dreary . . . "

She continued talking as we got out of our Corolla (it also happened to be tan) and walked the short distance from the parking lot to the shopping center. I did hope she'd stop, or at least lower her voice, before we got to the store. She had a way of causing a commotion, despite her size. She was a tiny, fragile person, swathed in scarves and perfumes and charms.

Men of uncertain age and weight looked our way as we came in: Scheherazade and the too tall, too bony, too elbowy stalk, in a back brace, beside her.

My mother breezed by their troubling, huntery expressions, and we settled in before the paint chips. I'd just turned thirteen, my back was curved, and my parents were curved, too -- bohemians in Connecticut, the Land of Plenty. Either all the colors looked good to me or none of them did. Somehow it seemed that this, like everything else, could go either way.

Mom, however, was confident. She hummed with satisfaction, picking out various small, hopeful cards from the rack, cocking her head, pursing her lips -- rejecting one, then the other, until she came to her blue.

Today they've gotten hold of Weston and thrown up these monstrous vault homes, decorated with pillars and neo-this-and-that architectural details, but in 1975 the lovely colonials were what stood out, the historic touch. Some even had plaques near the doorways saying things like Paul Revere Slept Here in 1782 or In 1801, Here Stood Weston's First Mill. The split-levels such as ours, built in the aesthetically challenged sixties, were scattered like tawdry cousins among these statelier, storied homes. Still, moving to 12 Ramble Lane was a big step up for us, and my parents had attached hopes to the house, obvious as the taped-up notes left behind by the house's former owners ("Use 5-watt bulb MAX!" "Filter hose needs to be checked 2X year!"). Mom had torn down their notes impatiently the first day we moved in, replacing them with a sign of her own. Purple felt with silver letters, it hung on the door of her soon-to-be-blue room, her first real studio: "Artist at Work." She could turn it to face in or out, indicating whether she was "open" or "closed" -- a novel idea in a mother. Dad's office was in the basement (he had another at the university), but most of all he seemed keen on a certain green hillock in the backyard, where he could sit cross-legged and rumble with a middle-aged Om.

We were all dressed up now, decked out in zesty Marimekko. And although the first two weeks in Weston passed in a kind of misty, glorious disappointment, most of all we felt lucky to be there, in a town of lilacs and curving roads and studio doors that shut and hillocks and a barn.

Dad stood on the ladder. He'd painted all the edges first, near the ceiling and floors and windows and corners, and then he'd taken out the roller and started in on wide swaths of Prussian Wildflower.

"A bit dark, isn't it?"

"Well, it's what your mother wants. It'll lighten up as it dries, too, Allie Oop."

This cheerfulness was disconcerting. He'd been duped into thinking he could please my mother.

"It looks different from the little card."

"Goddammit," Dad said. A slop of paint had fallen to the floor.

The fact of the matter is, both my parents were fish out of water in Weston. Mom with her dreams of being a painter and Dad with his day job and his poetry books, including the award-winning one, all lined up on the mantel. They were attempting to piece together a life with art at its center and also (not that I was fully aware of this at the time) making choices based on what might be good for me, their daughter. Art geeks, adversaries, people who drove old cars: They weren't part of the PTA crowd, and they weren't swingers, either. Mainly they were simply my parents, and it was extraordinarily embarrassing, but seemed pretty natural, that they were so weird.

"Look, you can't tell anything from the card," he said. "Take a rag to that spot, would you, please?"

"Why do they have the cards, then?"

"To beguile the willing, Alison."

"Why would they do that? They would never do that."

"You don't think so? Think about the visceral and dark depths of the workingman's resentment, darling, and you might have another idea."

The son of Irish immigrants and bardic descendant of many a workingman, my father looked like he was a half second away from falling off the rickety old ladder -- either him or the tray of Prussian Wildflower.

"Do we have any more 7-Up?"

Dad concentrated on his next swab of the roller. His somewhat long and unkempt beard, a poet's beard, bobbed precariously close to the wall.

"Dad?"

He grunted. He smoothed the roller down, then over, making a reverse blue cloud in a white sky. "Try the garage."

Girls Volleyball Tips: How the Pros Stay Square to the Net While Blocking

To get the most out of your block its important to “stay squared” to the volleyball net. This means to keep your shoulders, your underarms as you jump, boobies, abs and hips parallel to the net keeping as little space as possible between you and the volleyball net while you block jump.

No matter how tall you are the following five steps will help you put up your best block!

1. Watch your hitter with your shoulders parallel to the net.

Watch the hitter to get indications of how she intends to hit the ball…Is she approaching you with her shoulders at an angle indicating that she is going to hit cross court or are her shoulders coming at you straight on with the intention of hitting down the line. Does she hit the ball low across the net? Does she hit on her way down? Ultimately you should even be able to see if your hitter is turning her shoulders to face outside the court indicating that she intends to wipe off your block.

Watching means Keeping Your eyes open . Don’t laugh. I can show you hundreds of action shots of players blocking with their eyes closed. Watch your blocker then Go get the ball. I say it this way to emphasize Reaching OVER the net to grab or block the ball.

2. Jump straight up and down…don’t fly.

Some blockers jump “up” in one spot and come “down” in another one. Learn to control your body while you watch your hitter so that where you go “up” to jump is where you come “down”. Why is this important? Because you have three defenders behind you who are figuring out where they have to be in defense based on where you set your block. If your block is uncontrolled or all over the place YOUR teammates on defense aren’t going to know where to set themselves up on the volleyball court in team defense. Help your sisters out…come down in the same place that you JUMPED up from.

Secondly, for the outside blockers your middle blocker is relying on you to set up a solidly “closed” wall. Walls don’t move around they stay right where they were built. It’s your job to position yourself in front of your hitter’s body. Get there and don’t jump out again or move side to side so your middle blocker knows exactly where to come to close up the block. If you fly or jump to the outside your blocker will never be able to close up that space between the two of you and the other team’s hitter will look like a celebrity spiker hitting between that hole you created between you and your middle blocker.

3. Keep Palms Up at Shoulder Height in Ready Position.

A lot of volleyball players and high school coaches have difficulty deciding where the hands need to be while moving along the net to block. I’ve seen coaches teach players to keep their arms fully extended above their heads while moving along the net which actually slows you down and doesn’t allow you to squat to maximize your full jump. More commonly I’ve seen players of all ages drop their hands and arms way below the net BEFORE block jumping in an effort to gain a couple more inches to their jump. This technique a) usually slows your block jump timing because of the time it takes to go down before coming back up b) increases your risk of touching the net when your arms are swinging up in front of you and c) actually puts more distance between you and the volleyball net because of the extra space needed to swing your arms up in front of you so you are actually blocking farther AWAY from the net wasting alot of your vertical jump.

The solution? “Tiger Hands”, “Bear Hands” whatever you want to call it but you keep your lovely bear paws at shoulder height ..six to ten inches in front of you, Palms facing the net, Fingers wide…Solid wrists….when you go down (squat) and then fully extending your arms reaching OVER the net when you come out of your squat to jump. Speaking of squats…this is pretty much the same position you maintain when you do squats during your weight lifting workout in a gym with a bar on your shoulders, just keep your hands inside your body RIGHT in front of your shoulders. Your body is already used to doing this movement over and over again. Squatting with your hands at the height of your shoulders maintains body balance, allows you to stay close to the net gaining inches you can use to reach OVER the net to choke off that ball and allows you to maximize your powerful block jump.. If you can do it in the weight room …you can do it against a net on the volleyball court. Trust your body memory.

4. Use Maximum Arm Length Your goal is to be able to fully extend your arms at the maximum point of your block jump...everytime you jump.

There will be times for middle blockers especially that they will have to block a quick set which is so fast that they only have time to just get there hands over the net to stop the ball. But outside hitters who block 4’s and 5’s, balls that are set high to the outside or shot out at a quicker pace to the outside have time to use the full extension of their arms to block the ball. If you were born with arms that are 45” inches long then you should be reaching some 45+ inches as far OVER the net as you can get.

You want to keep your arms fully extended for as long as necessary so don’t put your arms up there and then pull them away before you’ve completed your block jump. Hold your arms extended throughout the duration of your block jump when you land, land back down into a starting “Tiger Hands “ position in case you have to block again.

5. Commit to Taking One Area Away.

If you have watched your hitter then you know she is going to hit or tip either down the line or cross court, or wipe off the block…very simple. Your job is take ONE of these directions away. You can only take cross court or you can only take line.

What you decide to take away will depend on what your coach has told your team in pre game strategy -what team blocking strategy is going to be used for a particular hitter, or against a particular team. If you don’t have an established game plan then what you take away is determined by the indications you “see” the hitter giving you as to where she is going to hit.

Once you’ve decided to take an area away Don’t go chasing the ball in mid air with your arms trying to cover everything. You just can’t. Besides when you set up early and take ONE area (either cross court or line) then your defense will cover your butt by taking away the other areas on the court.

If you are at the net trying to take everything away …then your back row teammates don’t know where they need to be in defense.

Remember the ball is in Your Hands.

Personally, I don’t think there is such thing as a perfect strategy for clubbing scenes. What we often claim as ‘perfect’ usually only means that it deliver more successes than the other. Even after that, you still need to identify yourself to the strategy you’re going to take and improvise as you proceed with it. Just because it works with one people, doesn’t say anything that it would do the same for you.

However, in my experience, there are at least some basic golden rules that could be easily applied to everyone who’s looking to improve their clubbing charisma.

Here are some tips to build your energy for party and dance floors:

- Come a bit late. Watching people who are already into the music would definitely give you a kick start to get into the same tune. If you arrive before the party begins, you’re going to get accustomed to the tension and inactivity that it would be harder to ‘switch’ into the party mood then.

- Greet and gesture the workers as you enter the room. Bouncers, bartenders, dancers, DJs, they are all the ‘owner’ of the place. Just a simple “Hey, wussup!” and “Looking crowded tonight,” would boost your mood even more. You need to build enough momentum so that you can feel as confident as you need.

- Start touring the place, talking to anyone interesting. While some people call this as ‘vibing,’ I call it ‘bouncing’ as the the idea is to bounce all the spots to have small talk with people you find interesting. You don’t need lengthy talks, just three to five exhanges but done almost everywhere.

You know you’re doing this right when you feel somewhat invincible compared to other mortals according to the simple structure there.

That’s what I usually call as the Glossy state.

Not only you will be seen as the most popular guy in the room, but you also would have an automatic working momentum that keeps on pushing you into approaching girls until your legs fail you. As simple as this may sound, those three steps above will help you achieve amazing things in your clubbing adventure.

Using your creativity and imagination with small items you can purchase at discount stores is the best. Larger items that cost more won't carry off the theme as well as an assortment of tiny items with a delicate (and budget conscious) appeal.

Carry out the room makeover when your daughter will be away from home. Have her go on a sleepover night at a friend's house or at her grandparents, and then start decorating!

When Rose Hyer was diagnosed with breast cancer so advanced that doctors gave her only a month to live, the single mom decided to finally start living. The spunky hairdresser, then 39, was tired of "being a passenger" in life. She moved to Florida, took up body building and bought her own motorcycle - a metallic blue Suzuki Intruder 800.

Hyer is one of thousands of women across the country finding camaraderie in women's motorcycle clubs. From the Chrome Divas in Columbia, S.C., and the Women on Wheels in Lincoln, Neb., to the Throttle Queens in Landover, Md., and the Motor Maids in Erie, Mich., women are increasingly taking to the open roads.

"I didn't have control of the cancer, there's nothing you can do, so riding is something you have control of," said Hyer, now 54.

Women bikers aren't your stereotypical bar-brawling, tattooed, leather jacket biker chicks. The new wave of female riders are soccer moms, even grandmas, corporate attorneys and nurses with an average income of $55,850, according to the Motorcycle Industry Council.

The number of women who own their own bikes is on the rise - jumping 36% to 635,000 between 1998 to 2003, according to the most recent numbers from the Motorcycle Industry Council, a trade group based in Irvine, Calif. At the famous online website Biker Girls On Wheels , it has more than 320,000 female riders. Sixty percent of the members are women riders.

Manufacturers such as Harley-Davidson and Ultra Motorcycles are capitalizing on the trend, designing bikes with lighter frames, custom fit gears and lower seats.

"It's pretty much been a men's market, but a lot of ladies really like riding motorcycles and I think they feel left out so that's why we created something just for women," Ultra Motorcycles sales director Dan Houston said of his company's Groundpounder and California Kid models.

At Harley-Davidson, motorcycles sales to women are at an all-time high, jumping from 600 in 1980 to 30,000 in 2005. Women make up about half of new-rider classes on the test track at Harley-Davidson Orlando, said Tony Cianciotto, marketing manager at Harley Orlando.

"I think for so long women have ridden on the back, but nowadays women are very independent," Cianciotto said.

The winding roads offer women an escape from crying babies, stressful jobs and high-maintenance relationships. Many female riders plan this week to roll up to Daytona Beach's annual Bike Week, to gab with the thousands of fellow bikers from around the country who gather to scope out the merchandise and ride the test tracks.

"We're definitely seeing a trend in more female riders" showing up at Bike Week, said Kevin Kilian, official for Daytona's chamber of commerce.

Here are five tips champion athletes use to improve their volleyball serve receiving skills. Now you can easily adopt these volleyball skills to improve your technique during games and volleyball tournaments.

1. Learning to Read the Server's Body Position is the first volleyball skill to remember.

When a volleyball player is ready to serve - they usually give you some indication where they are planning to serve. By checking their lower body, their feet and especially their hip position you get some clues as to whether they want to serve the volleyball cross court or down the line.

Also check out where their shoulders are facing and where there tossing arm is - this will give you additional clues. Alot of servers when they want to serve a short ball to the front row hitters on the opposite side - MANY times they step right up to the serving line as close as they can. This is a pretty good indication that a short serve is coming. So when you see that don't wait for your volleyball coach to tell you, just adjust accordingly by taking a step closer to the net so that you cover any short serves that come in your area.

2. Volleyball Skill Number two is to Stay Low.

Once the referee's whistle blows DON"T STAND UP! Stay in "shoulders hunched/slightly crouched" ready position in order to serve receive. Why?

a) Because if the server serves you deep or short its easier for you to move forwards and backwards - if you are in a slightly crouched position. b) By standing up, the ball will more than likely hit you in the chest. As the serve crosses the net Stay Low - while preparing your body position and platform to serve receive.

3. Another complicated volleyball skill to remember - Talk!

Be ready to take responsibility for balls that're served to you or in your area - by calling "MINE" in a loud clear voice so your teammmates know that you WANT that ball and only you will pass that ball. It allows your teammmates to set up early for whatever they need to do next.

Communicate what serve you think is coming. If I see someone "toeing" the line- by this I mean stepping up really close to the server's line then I will tell my beach partner OR my indoor teammates in a loud voice "Watch out for the short serve!" This mentally helps you AND your teammates to be ready to move quickly if the short serve comes. This way everybody on the volleyball court KNOWS and is aware of the short ball possibly coming.

You've also made the server aware of the fact that you know what they are about to do so it puts more presssure on them to concentrate .

4. Volleyball Skill Number Four is to Focus on the Volleyball.

Once you've checked out the server's body position and where they look like they are serving and called it out to your teammates...once the whistle blows Focus on the BALL while its in the server's tossing hand.

Once the server tosses the volleyball they really can't change much of anything else so I visibly TRACK that ball from their hands when they contact it across the net and I track it right into my arms. I follow by watching the ball with my eyes right into my serve receive platform. Really Focusing on the ball keeps me from being surprised and moving at the last minute once that ball crosses the net to my side of the court. I am already visibly and mentally following that ball out of the server's hands so by the time it gets to the volleyball net and then crosses to my side its easy for me to move my feet and get to position to make a great pass.

5. The final volleyball skill is to get into Early Positioning and then Get Stopped!

Don't do two things at once. Don't pass and run at the same time! Your passes usually won't go to your setter BUT instead will go immediately over the net. Get to the spot First on the volleyball court where you see the ball is going to cross the net and land even if this means that you may only need a side step or two or may even have to run to get to a further spot away from you Get THERE first then GET STOPPED -get your Platform out- then make the pass. Make sure you do this in 2 separate movements.

So remember Get to Your Spot Quickly - Beat the ball there - Get Stopped - Make the Pass!

Girls Volleyball Tips: How you Use Pepper Warmup to Improve your Defense

Many volleyball players don't know how to use the Pepper Warm up Drill as a way to improve their volleyball game. Below are 5 ways elite volleyball players use "Pepper" as a way to improve their volleyball defensive game.

1. To Improve Ball Control.

2. To Improve Serve Receive Technique.

I think that Pepper is the number one way for indoor players to improve their ball control...if they know how to do it. You have to be aware of why you are Peppering in the first place. If not, then it just becomes a way to raise your body temperature...some.

a. When YOU set-whoever sets should be working on form and technique.

The Goal- the ball should go right to your partner without them taking more than one step in any direction to chase your ball.

b. When Your partner passes back-concentration should be on using excellent form for serve receive and free ball passing-especially now since this is an easy ball.

The Goal- first to pass the ball so she/he can hit the ball right back without taking more than one step. Secondly, bump setting practice for accuracy so each and every ball goes right back to above the hitters extended hititing arm.

c. When You hit. You hit a controlled 1/2 to 3/4 speed down ball right to your partner. In this instance you have a controlled situation in which to practice the finer points of your armswing. Concentrate -on "reaching" raising your elbow and hittng high while controlling the ball speed. Don't hit by your ear just because there's no net! Hit low in Pepper means you hit low in hitting warm ups and then in a game. Trust me-it all transfers. Your body is recording every movement you make it do-so pledge to yourself to do the movements right.

The Goal- To hit the spot you are aiming for-which in Pepper is right to your partner-so that she doesn't have to move more than one step UNLESS you choose to mix up your attack and include a tip to your partner. Highly recommended after you have improved your ball control.

d. Your partner digs-focus on being down in your defensive position before your partner hits the ball meaning by the time they make contact. Because Pepper partners are relatively close together you will automatically be developing quick reflexes. Here is where you practice combining quick reflex with BALL CONTROL. React quickly...then control the ball. React quickly then c-o-n-t-r-o-l the ball.

The Goal- Learning to absorb a hard hit ball at a close distance and delivering that ball (softly, gently people) in control to your target without making them move more than one step. Fight to maintain control of the ball.

3. To Increase Your Range in Defense

Advanced players can challenge their partners (you both need to agree to make the drill work) by tipping the ball further and further out of reach - the more of these balls you get in pepper-the more you will get in the game. It all transfers. Or by hitting a 1/2 to 3/4 speed down ball a foot or 2 to the right or left of the defender will increase your range of harder hit defensive balls that you dig up around you.

4. To Narrow Your Focus and Concentration

Many times Pepper warm ups take place in a crowded environment. Either with 25 teammates on either side of you, or near that net divider that separates the courts in a tournament, fans that walk up and down th aisles, team benches, believe it or not this is a great practice oportunity- to narrow your focus and concentration so that it doesn't matter what happens around you ...the world can come to an end but your focus is only on the ball.

5. To Increase Your Reactions and Reduce Fear of the Ball

As your ball control gets better then you and your Pepper partner should agree to challenge each other to make each other better players. When you get to the point when you are exchanging 10-12 pass,set,hit combinations in a row Stop and both of you commit to hitting harder at each other. About 3/4 the speed of your regularly hit spike-BUT YOUR GOAL is to still work up to as many pass-set-hit exchanges as you can while Controlling the ball. Your digs should still be going right to each other.
