Mint Toy Museum, Singapore

Continue with my Singapore trip. The day after the Nuffnang Award Dinner, the foreign bloggers were treated to a 1 day tour of some of Singapore's interesting places thanks to Uniquely Singapore (Singapore Tourism Board). We were grouped into a few group, each group will go to same place at different time. At the end of the day each group will have visited all the same places but at different time of course. Chris and I were grouped into Group A, so our first stop is Mint Museum. It's just behind Raffles Hotel, which was supposed to be our real first destination.

It consists of 5 floors, each floor will showcase rare mint toys of different theme and different time. Admission fee to the museum is SGD $15 for adult and SGD $7 for child. There's a restaurant in the basement if you don't want to go on a tour in the museum.

We were brought up to level 4 first, if I'm mistaken. A very experienced curator, whom previously is a Master Jeweler is our guide. Level 4 is Robots or Sci-fi. There's robot toys from different time and different country. You can see that the colour that like to be used from different country is different from each. Japanese toys tend to has a lot of improvement or more features.

Apart from being a rare mint toy museum, the design of the museum also won architecture awards.

The wonder of the design also is because the 4th and 5th floors are actually hanging in the middle.

Not only toys can be found. This is a autographed postcard of The Beatles. Which is very rare now because you won't be able to get John Lennon and George Harrison autograph anymore.

The top floor is a pub that was decorated with a lot of very old and rare signage. The curator told us happy hour rate here is damn cheap.

One can take a very good picture of Raffles Hotel from the balcony of the pub.

Even the restaurant in the basement were filled with rare posters of food and beverage product.

The curator told us that the collection showcase in the museum is only less than 10% of the total collection that the owner has. The rest of the collection is kept in a very big warehouse somewhere. Crazy!!! The value of each toy ranged from a few hundred USD to about thousands or maybe even hundred thousands of USD.

One should really drop by here once at least in his or her lifetime to find out the history of toys. Nowadays the toys are just mass produced and in low quality. The collection are swap every 6 months.

Tadi aku pergi jalan-jalan kat Jusco, Metro Prima. Tujuan aku ke sana ialah untuk membeli mata wang Hong Kong tapi aku di beritahu mata wang Hong Kong sudah habis di jual. Apa??? Ramai ke orang pergi ke Hong Kong. Nasib baik aku ada satu minggu lagi baru pergi ke Hong Kong untuk makan angin dan juga melawat saudara-mara aku di sana.

Mata wang tidak dapat di tukar, jadi aku pergi ke supermarket Jusco untuk beli sedikit barang. Ah, nampak ubat nyamuk, bukan yang perlu di bakar atau pasang dekat suis punya tu. Ini natural punya, ubat penghalau nyamuk, di buat daripada serai (lemongrass). Kesannya baik juga.

Pergi ke seksyen minuman untuk dapatkan minuman berkarbondioksida kesukaan aku. Coke Light lol. Kemudian ternampak pula bawang. Bawang ini betul-betul mujarab. Dikatakan ia dapat memperkukuhkan akar rambut. Ah, jumpa benda yang bagus ni, rambut aku semakin hari semakin nipis, lima tahun akan datang, aku akan jadi Botak Seow dah T_T. Cepat-cepat aku beli bawang. Nanti aku balik rumah boleh cuci rambut akua dengan bawang. Walaupun bawang ini harga tinggi juga, RM 24.90 tapi mesti cuba dan tengok kesannya. Kalau berkesan, aku akan beritahu pembaca-pembaca belog aku.

Nah, ininya Bawang yang aku ceritakan, bukan bawang yang diguna untuk masakanlah lol.

2012 + Ninja Assassin

I went to two movie screening recently. One is a disaster movie 2012 and another is a blood & gore action flick, Ninja Assassin.

2012

The story is as what a disaster movie is all about. Discovered that there will be a E.L.E happening in the near future. Execute plans to prepare for E.L.E Near E.L.E found out that it will happened sooner than estimation. During E.L.E, show people from different parts of the world how to face the judgment day and see how the lead actor (John Cussack) miraclely escaped near death event while trying to get his family to the safe point. The only thing that change is what causes the E.L.E and the method used to safe the world from total extinction of species.

Sorry Mr. President sir but the E.L.E will be happening much sooner.

Cliche story aside, this kind of movie will make you think about the world that we are currently living in. E.L.E will happen in the next 50 years or so if we don't stop polluting the environment. With global warming and all. There's already signs like flood, tsunami, earthquake and abnormal weather changes happening recently. Play your part to help the environment. Say no to Plastic Bags. Save paper, use the hand dryer instead of the paper towel after you do your thing in the toilet. Save power, turn off any electronic appliances if not in use, I know most of you do not turn off your PC even when you are not using it lol.

"I wondered if it is meteor again this time."

The CGI in the movie is great. See how the volcano is chasing John Cussack in the ass lol, the White House is destroyed once again (ironically by a US aircraft carrier lol) and loads of earthquake, and tsunami scenes. Proud to mentioned that one of the 3D animator is our homeboy from Malaysia, Ng Chun Seong, younger brother of Super Wilson. Look out for his name in the ending credits yo! Another sad case of brain drain in Malaysia.

What do you know? Chinese saves the day.

Ninja Assassin

Showing it all in all major cinemas on November 26th 2009

First, I like to thank Yee Hou for teaching us an easy way to spell assassin with ass-ass-in lol. After watching this movie, I can only say one thing. It's all about Rain and Rain only lol. There's so many scene that you can see him showing off his muscular body that he purposely put up hours of training for this movie.

As Robb put it," Ninja Assassin - Guys enjoy watching the limbs chopped off, girls enjoy watching Rain's topless body, gays enjoying both." Yupe, secretly I wish I can have a body like Rain in the movie but I am too damn lazy, so forget it. I like the blood & gore in the movie legs sliced, blood purging out, fingers lost and etc. I find the blood is a bit too fake though. No thanks to our moral inspector in the censorship board, there's a few cut here and there, violence and vulgarity I guess. Yet, there's a few vulgarity that they missed (on purpose?)

It will be nice to watch the fighting scene if it's not for the camera shaking like the cameraman was put on a earthquake testing machine. Yes, I know, you're trying to show how fast the ninjas move but hey, you don't have to make me dizzy, I fainted how to watch? Also, the extra skill that was added into the story makes me feels like I was watching Naruto and Bleach. Suddenly ninjitsu is so magical -_-

Bleach fans should watch out for the shunpo like fighting in the end lol. Lucky there's no Bankai, if not I'll really be RLOF in the cineplex.

Food in Tiong Bahru Market Food Court, Singapore

Time to blog about my Singapore trip. Phew!! Too many obligatory posts in the past few weeks that I have not time and space to blog about my Singapore trip. Let's start of with food. Can you believe that I ate in the food court in Tiong Bahru Market for 3 days in a row while I was in Singapore for 3 days? Well, there are two reasons for that, too many good food there and it's just across the road from Link Hotel (5 minutes walks) where all the Nuffnangers were staying.

Day 1:

We arrived at Link Hotel around 4 p.m. and I was only be able to check-in to my room at about 5.30 p.m. and that was not without the hassle of getting a wrong room number first. By 6.30 p.m. we have to get ready but my sister, my mum and my niece were here to meet up with me. So, we make a quick trip to Tiong Bahru Market food court for a quick bite.

Seeing my niece Ruth makes me calmer even after the long wait and the mistakes made by the hotel staff. Not enough experience to handle such a big group check-in I think. We're about 120 strong.

Teochew Fishball Noodle, Tiong Bahru Market

The fish ball, fish cake and fish wantan is really good. One can really taste fish, unlike some that mixes too much flour or too much MSG in it. The sauce that mixes the noodle tasted a bit bland though. Next time I'll just order the fish produce with soup and skip noodle.

Tiong Bahru Fried Kway Teow

My sister ordered what she referred as "white char kway teow" (CKT ala Singapore) as opposed to what we Malaysian make our char kway teow. I don't want to argue about whether char kway teow is a Singaporean or Malaysian pioneer food. Both version has similarity yet very different.

The "white char kway teow" is wet version of char kway teow much like the KL CKT. It's white maybe because it uses light soya sauce instead of the dark soya sauce. Pork lard is no where to be found in it. Penangites will spit on this white version. I myself also thinks that Penang CKT still rock my socks, even the normal one. My Malaysian taste bud really can't get used to this version of CKT. Well, it's always good to try on different things in a foreign country even if it's not as good as you'll expect it to be. Funny thing is there was quite a long queue of customer ordering from this stall.

Tiong Bahru Fried Kway Teow SGD $3

Day 2:

The day after the Nuffnang Asia-Pacific Blog Awards dinner, me, WeiZhi, Chris, Christine, Swee San and her friend planned to have breakfast in Tiong Bahru Market before we go for our 1 day Singapore tour sponsored by Uniquely Singapore. This place is of course recommended by me lol, which my sister recommended. There's still a few good stuff that I haven't been able to try yesterday.

Tiong Bahru Fish & Chicken Poriddge

I felt like having porridge. It's been a while I haven't take porridge in the morning. So, I ordered a raw fish slices porridge. The raw fish slice is really smooth. Eat it with the warm porridge, which will cooked the raw fish slice in just a matter of seconds. The fish was marinated with sesame oil, soya sauce and granished with ginger and spring onion. It's really hard to describe the feeling of mixing all this into the warm porridge and take a scoop of it. All I can say is "Delicious". Sorry I forgot the price. Should be around SGD $4.

WeiZhi bought us some very nice kueh mangkuk lol, sorry I forgot what it's call in Hokkien. I know Cantonese it's call "put chai go". This is one of the best I've ever tasted. You should really try this if you are here in Tiong Bahru Market food court.

Tiong Bahru Pau

My sister told me the egg tarts from Tiong Bahru Pau is very nice but alas the first day, it was sold out, the second day it's not ready T_T But, the fried minced pork popiah here is very nice too. I bought some for WeiZhi, Chris and Cristine yesterday, and this morning WeiZhi bought it for us lol. This is just one of the Tiong Bahru Pau outlet, there's a few more outlets in Singapore. My sister told me the HQ is just somewhere behind Link Hotel.

Teck Seng Soya Bean Milk

My sister recommended this soya bean the day before but they were closed. So day 2 morning, we all go for this. The queue is seriously long. Thank you Chris for queuing up to buy the soya bean for us ;)

I know why the queue is so long because the soya bean milk and tao fu fah were really worth the wait. WeiZhi told us she still prefer the tao fu fah in Ipoh. As for me, I think the one here has a more solid feel while the one in Ipoh is more watery. Both has it's pro and con.

Christine and Chris shared their yam cake, chee cheong fun and economy fried noodle. The queue to these stalls is quite long too or maybe it's just because Singapore is very densely populated lol.

Day 3:

I woke up early at 7am because I slept damn early the night before. While, Chris my room mate is still sleeping (he came back like 3 or 4 in the morning). So, I walked to Tiong Bahru Market for breakfast alone. I really don't know what to eat because I've already been here for the third time in a row now. So, there I was walking around the food court, until I spotted a damn long queue from this stall, no it's not the soya bean milk stall even though the queue also very long there.

Instinct tell me this lor mee must be very nice. Duh.

Got proof!

The lor mee here is more like lum mee in KL. I like the generous condiment of cut chilis, diced garlics and Chinese parsley. Mixed it all up with the gravy and take a bite of the noodle. Satisfaction baby! Of course, you'll have to like raw garlic per se. You can tell the boss not to put any of those. They will let you put the condiments yourself.

And I think the third time is a bliss because I finally able to but some egg tarts from Tiong Bahru Pau lol. It's nice, crispy skin and soft fillings. Comparable to Tong Kee's. Just that the former sweetness level is lesser than the latter.

Gu Xuan Ju (古轩居), Bandar Puchong Jaya

Simon Says: My high school friend Beary Chef is now selling her homemade cakes online. She is now back in Malaysia after her apprenticeship in some of Australian 5-stars hotel. Cakes available are like Tiramisu, Pavlova, and Strawberry Shortcake. Chocolate lovers will be surprise on so many variety of Chocolate Cakes that she's offering. Customized very nice decorative cake for different occasion and of course the buzz word nowadays, cupcakes also available. A few weeks ago Wingz invited me for dinner in a new restaurant in Puchong. It's a Chinese restaurant that was just started business for 3 weeks. The shop that is now Gu Xuan Ju (古轩居) was previously a vegetarian restaurant. Gu Xuan Ju by the way is not a vegetarian restaurant lol. We were also joined by Ken and Sidney and a few other non-blogger friends.

Let's move on to the dishes we had that night. We started off with a very aromatic Indonesian Style Seafood Claypot (印尼三鲜煲) (RM 36 for medium size). According to the boss, it doesn't have curry powder at all. I tasted lemongrass, chili and yellow ginger. Condensed milk is used instead of santan. The seafood or 三鲜 in this dish is prawns, cuttlefish and fish slices. Even if this is not a curry dish, the gravy is so nice to go with rice. I finished half of my rice just on this dish.

Village Style Steamed Black Tilapia　(家乡蒸黑翡翠) (RM 36 for 1.2 kg) is up next. According to the chef, he learned this dish from the villager of a fish village. Fisherman always knows their fish best ;) Just using simple ingredients like spring onions, garlic, Chinese parsley and specially mixed soya sauce all put on the black tilapia and steamed. There's no muddy taste at all on the fish and the meat is fresh and springy. The freshness is on par with Lan Je，amid the different style of steaming. The simple style of steaming kept 鲜 taste of the fish intact.

Village Style Steamed Black Tilapia　(家乡蒸黑翡翠) RM 36

Pork rib is up after the steamed black tilapia. Not your normal pork rib king (排骨王) but Pork Rib King with Butter Sauce　(奶皇排骨王) (RM 22 for medium size).　First time eating pork rib that is cooked with butter sauce. Quite interesting but if eat too much will have the jelak feeling. If you bored of the old sweet and sour tasting pork ribs, you can give this a try.

After 3 meaty dishes, time to cleanse our stomach with a detoxifying Stir-fried Bitter Gourd and Bean Sprout with fried salted fish (苦瓜炒牙菜)　(RM 10 for medium size). Another interesting combination, the bitter gourd tasted bitter sweet rather than bitter and it's still very crunchy. Cooked at the right duration. Not much seasoning was used, the sweetness from the bean sprouts and bitter gourd and a bit of saltilness from the fried salted fish is enough to make this a great green dish.

After some vegetables, it's time for a bean curd dish. Golden Bean curd with Minced Pork (黄金菜香豆腐) (RM 18 for medium size) uses homemade bean curd made by the restaurant slightly deep fried on the outer layer hence I can get a bit of crispiness outside and smooth and soft inside. I can also taste very nice soya bean taste in the bean curd. The minced pork has diced preserved vegetable (菜宝)　in it. Too bad, I already finished my rice and I don't want to order extra rice because there's more dishes coming.

Golden Bean curd with Minced Pork (黄金菜香豆腐) RM 18

Highly recommended to garlic and prawn lovers. Baked Prawn with Garlic (蒜香焗明虾)　(RM 40 for 400g) is the dish that we had next. Seafood, should be cooked as simple as possible. This is what this dish is all about. Just garlic, soya sauce and prawn. Remember to dip some of the soya sauce when you're eating the prawn because the juice from the prawns is sipped into the soya sauce. Diced garlic is really a match in heaven with prawn.

Baked Prawn with Garlic (蒜香焗明虾) RM 40

Another vege dish, Home Style Stir-fried Eggplant (古味炒茄子)　(RM 15 for medium size). The eggplant is cooked just nice, you can still see slices of the eggplant meat. If not mistaken, miso paste was used for the seasoning. Another nice dish to go with the rice.

Hong Kong Style Chicken Soup Dumpling (港式云吞鸡) (RM 18) is the soup dish of the day. Using free range chicken to cook up the stock. It's a bit oily, not that I complain but for healthy conscious people today, it might be good to skinned the chicken first, so that it will be less oily. But hey, I think chicken oil is way healthier than trans-fat oil. Minced pork, mushroom and prawn made up the filling of the dumpling. There's is a special kind of taste missing from this soup that I tasted in Hong Kong. Can't really tell what it is. Nevertheless, it's a very nice soup.

We ended the night with very filling dishes, XO Sauce Seafood Fried Rice (XO 海鲜炒饭) (RM 10 for 3 pax)and House Special Fried Noodle (招牌炒拉面) (RM 10 for 3 pax). Instead of the normal noodle, Japanese ramen was used for the House Special Fried Noodle. The XO Seafood Fried Nice is really nice.

Gu Xuan Ju is an air-conditioned restaurant and strictly no smoking inside the premises. So, one can surely have one's meal comfortably inside the restaurant. Another nice eatery for Chinese food in Puchong.

Lenovo Live Mannequin Blogathon is Over...

I went to Pavilion on the second day of Blogathon to give my support to Ringo, KY and Huai Bin. By the time I reached Tangs 2nd floor entrance, they were out on their first toilet break.

I bought a gift for Huai Bin. Jeng, jeng...

Dr. P adult diapers lol. Why? Because on the first day, from his Twitt, I found that Huai Bin can quite hold his pee, and thus getting penalty point for going to toilet before toilet break. So, the adult diaper can help, he can literally pee in his pants if you can't hold till the toilet break lol. I'm not sure he made use of the gift or not by the way.

Wern Shen thinks that he can put the adult diapers to good use here lol.

Bumped into Natalie there too. She's working there.

After you've activated the Facebook SMS Service, there are a lot of Facebook options that you can use now just by sending text messages or as we say it in Malaysia SMSes.

Facebook Status Update:

This is the easiest to use. Just type in your message and then send to 32665 and voila you have your FB status updated. Note that you'll see a [via Celcom SMS] at the back of the status message when you see it in your Facebook.

Follow your friend's status update via SMS:

After activating the CHANNEL X Facebook SMS Service, you'll be able to see a new option called "Subscribe via SMS" when you click into your friend's Facebook Profile. It's just like the Follow option on Twitter only that now any update will be send to your mobile phone and there's no data upload/download whatever calculation involve.

So, for example, I clicked on WeiZhi's "Subscribe via SMS" and I'll be able to get her every status update (especially on food :p) sent to my now Facebook Phone.

Poke your friend:

It's as simple as updating your Facebook Status but you have to add a keyword in your text message. Type poke friend's profile name and send to 32665. For example, if you want to poke me then type "poke yyseow" without the quotation marks of course and send to 32665 and you've poked me (omg, that sounds so wrong).

Howling at the New Moon

It's almost dawn. In the back alley of Heritage House in Jalan Yap Ah Shak were two men dress in black suits with bow ties having conversation in whispers. Man with beard whispers to a tall and thin clean shaven man,"So, have you got it?" Clean shaven man replied,"Yes. The security is very tight there but with my shape shifting ability, I was able to shape shift into one of the guard. What's so great about this New Moon movie anyway?"

Bearded man smirked and then says,"What? You haven't heard of the Twilight Saga? The stories about vampire and werewolf that is not what we've thinking about all this time. Vampire is not afraid of the sun, it's just their skin will shine under the sun so they stay under the sun to not to arouse suspicion among the humans. I want to find out their weakness and this Twilight Saga might be able to give me a clue. I read that in New Moon, my kins will have a more active role in the movie. I might learn a trick or two from there to fight against those bloody vampires."

"Quick, show me the tickets to the premiere of New Moon that you've stolen from the office of Tayangan Unggul.",said bearded man while snarling at clean shaven man. "Here it is. New Moon opens at 26th November 2009 in major cinemas in Malaysia.", said clean shaven man while giving two pieces of move tickets to bearded man. "What???", bearded man growled. "The tickets I want is for the premiere, which is a day before the openings. I can't go to the movie on the 26th, it will be full moon that night and I can't control my transformation, you bloody idiot." "But..but, these are the only tickets I was able to find in there.", shaven man stuttered.

Bearded man is now very furious. His suit is starting to tear apart as his body is growing bigger and fur growing out from it. Just as when the werewolf was about to rip clean shaven man apart. A handsome young man in white shirt and white slacks appeared in the alley. "Wait!", shouted the handsome young man. "Maybe I'll be able to help. Lesson of the story is that, you don't have to have shape shifting ability to get premiere movie tickets, just be a Nuffnang Glitterati member and post blog or comment to fulfilled the requirement and you'll have a high chance to get the premiere tickets.

As, I've wrote in the short stories, Twilight Saga is not your traditional vampires story where the vampires only goes out at night, scared of the cross, will die under sunlight. In Twillight Saga, is very different where the vampire does not fear the sunlight and they have super senses, strength and speed. There's also the irony of a human girl falling in love with a vampire and the other vampire clans that feeds on live human blood wanted to hunt the girl down. The latest development in New Moon, from the trailer I see that werewolf will play a part too. That's why I like Twilight Saga, it has so my non-cliche ideas about the fictional monsters that I've read about ever since I was a child and the plot just thicken with each sequel.

Yut Kee, Jalan Dang Wangi

On the morning before gathering in front of Heritage House for the bus to Singapore for the Nuffnang AP Blog Awards. I purposely went there earlier so that I can have breakfast in Yut Kee. Reached there by cab at 6.45 am, and it's not open yet. Then, Chris and Christine saw me and asked me to join them in Christine's dad's car. Took a round trip and came back to where they picked me up lol. Christine's dad told us that Yut Kee opens only at 7am.

Yut Kee coffee shop is older than my father. It started in 1928, already 81 years. The third generation is helping out in the business now. Famous for their authentic Hainanmese style coffee shop food such as pork chop, roti babi, kaya roll, half boiled egg and kopi.

I think the furniture there is older than me but still very sturdy.

We were like the 2nd group of customer to went in and when we're inside, they were not even ready yet to take orders. Waited for about 15 minutes only then the waiter starts to take our order. The couple had breakfast already, so they only ordered drink.

This is my second time to Yut Kee. I tried Roti Babi before, so this time I ordered Pork Chop as my breakfast. It's very meaty and not like some other pork chop in other coffee shop that only gives a very thin layer of pork. The worchester sauce tasted just right not too salty. Given the pork chop just the right juiciness.

I wash it down with my favourite teh-C. Not the best teh-C but who's to complain. Maybe next time I should try their kopi.

I went to Yut Kee again last Friday because I need to go to Nuffnang office to collect the prizes that I wont from Project Alpha contest. You can read about my winning post here. I reached Yut Kee around 11.30 am, just in time for the salivating Auntie Margaret's roasted pork roll which is only available on Friday and Sunday from 11 am onwards. 11.30 a.m. is just nice, not that many crowd yet. I read that it'll be finished by 1 p.m. normally.

I saw the staff was just taking out 5 freshly roasted pork roll out to the table where the roasted pork was cut and serve to customer. Look at the skin, look to crispy and golden in colour.

Inside the roasted pork roll are herbs. I can taste rosemary is one of the herbs.

I ordered two slabs of roasted pork. Cost me RM 10 a slab. Costly but worth it.

Of course, it won't be complete without the specially made apple sauce that goes with the roasted pork.

The roasted pork is done with the perfect proportion of 20% fat and 80% meat. That's my perfect proportion, not some universal standards okay?

Rating: 4.75/5 (0.25 less from perfect scoring is because the skin is not as crispy as I would have like it to be)

Two slabs of roasted pork is not enough for a brunch, so I order a set of half boiled eggs. Yut Kee using free range eggs? Why is the shell white? But the egg here is bigger than the egg in the coffee shop near my house.

Look at the orange coloured yolk. So beautiful, not to mention tasty too. Filled with the goodness of fresh egg.

A dash of white pepper and soy sauce. Gulp, gulp, gulp. Ah...satisfaction. Beats the Omega 3 eggs in Oldtown Kopitiam anytime.

I also bought two boxes of kaya rolls on the go. One box is for the Nuffies and one box to bring home.

Turning My Old Phone Into Facebook Phone

As I've blog before that I have an old Samsung phone that is not in use much anymore except for receiving calls from bank chasing me on my debts :p Recently, I don't even get calls from the banks anymore because I pay my debts on time now!!! Uhuhuhuhu.

Finally, I bought a XPAX prepaid package so that I can turn the old phone into my personal Facebook SMS Service phone.

Following the instruction from CHANNEL X, I key in "F" then text it to 32665. But low and behold, the confirmation that I got is "Sorry, we can't process your Facebook request right now. Please try again." I tried it for the 10th time, still no success. Then I dialed 1111 to call Celcom Careline. Found out from the helpful Careline staff that I need to call out to one credit deductible number first to activate my XPAX line because my line is still in pre-active status. So, those of you that just bought XPAX remember to do this step first before activating any CHANNEL X services first to avoid disappointment.

After activating my pre-active line, just one text to 32665, and I've got my activation code for my Facebook SMS Service. Then I have to login into my Facebook account, go to Settings > Account Settings > Mobile, add a phone. Choose Malaysia for the country and Celcom as the telco. I was be shown the step to text "f" to 32665, since I've done that already, I click next to key in the activation code I received. Voila. I received a confirmation SMS from 32665 telling me that my Facebook SMS Service is confirmed.

I keyed in my first Facebook status update using SMS even thought I am sitting in front of my laptop connecting through Celcom Broadband lol. There my status is updated almost immediately. So easy. Now I can put my old phone to good use. Any of you have old phone sitting around should try this too if you don't plan to buy a smart phone.

O'Briens Sandwich Delivery Service Launch

I got invited by WMW to attend the launching of O'Briens Sandwich Bars Delivery Service last Thursday. I was able to attend because I'm off shift on that day. I arrived there quite early about 9.45 am. I waited till 10 am only then I went to register. Once I registered I was presented with a goodies bag and a O'Briens Sandwich Bars member card. Nice. I found out later that there's RM 30 was loaded into the card already and inside the goodies bag are a lot of discount vouchers. You'll be seeing me eating O'Briens Sandwich a lot this month.

Jokes aside, just as the tag line on the paper bag says, the ingredients used to make the sandwich in O'Briens are really fresh. The bread are made and send to the outlets on the day itself and no leftover bread will be use. That's why you always get fresh bread.

Wilson, Jocelyn and Rebecca were there too. So, us bloggers of course sit together in a table. After all the media and guests settled down, it's time to start. Brian Pua the Operations & Business Development Director of Master Franchise of O'Briens Malaysia start with his speech of why O'Briens Malaysia is starting the delivery service and how it will be done.

After Brian's speech, it's Mr. Hugh Hoyes-Cock's, the CEO of O'Briens Irish Sandwich Cafe, Asia-Pacific based in Singapore turn to give his speech. We found out from him how Brian got his name. He says that Brian does not have an English name when he went over to Ireland for the training to manage the franchise of O'Briens Sandwich. His Chinese name is very hard for the ang moh there to pronounce, and so they gave him the name Brian lol.

Up next is Mr. Eoin Duggan the First Secretary of the Irish Embassy. He told us that even though Ireland and Malaysia are two quite small country but the trade between both countries has reached about RM 2.6 billion and growing.

After the speeches, it's time for a small ribbon cutting ceremony to launch the delivery service.

After the ribbon cutting session, two of the delivery staffs then come out and started the delivery motorcycle and horn to the loudest volume to symbolize the launch.

Now you can call 1300-30-3000 and have healthy fresh O'Briens Sandwich sent to your door step. From the delivery menu, I see there's large platter set too, which is very good for office that want to do an office breakfast or lunch or to hold a power lunch meetin in the office where they have VIP from oversea visiting for those MNC company. The O'Briens Malaysia menu can be downloaded here.

After the short launching ceremony, it's Q&A time. Some of the info I got is that the outlet in The Curve will cover until Kelana Jaya and Kepong area. There will be a delivery charge. As of now, there will not be any online ordering in Malaysia but if the response is great, they might replicate the online ordering system from O'Briens Ireland and bring it here.

Like the healthy All Veggie Wrappo, which is very healthy, you'll like it if you like vegetable and sun-dried tomato. Marketing Director told us that their salmon quiche is very good and is one of the best selling item. When we wanted to order one that day, we're told that it's sold out. T_T. Never mind, I'll drop by another day to order the salmon quiche using my member card :p Who want to join me for an O'Briens meal? Got discount wor.

While most people left, we bloggers got a chance to chat with Hugh and Brian. Hugh even told us interesting story about unreasonable complains lodged by customers. He personally want every complaint lodge to O'Briens Singapore sent to him. Talk about hands on. He also told us how one Lebanese customer complains that the hummus served in O'Brien is not good enough. So, Hugh asked the customer to show him how to make a good hummus. Everything else is the same except for the important step that is different. First, the chick peas have to be wash after it was cooked and then crushes ice have to be add in when the chick peas are being blended.

I love the cheese sandwich the most, they put something like cranberry sauce in it, which goes very well with the cheddar cheese. Really, who want to join me for O'Briens? I got loads of discount voucher with me. If you're lazy to go out then just dial 1300-30-3000.

Phobia 2

Thanks to Nuffnang and David I was able to be the extra to go to the movie screening of Phobia 2. This horror flick is consists of 5 different short stories that were directed by 5 different directors. The directors were also that brought you Shutter, Dorm, Alone, Body and 401A.

Now I know why some of the film name like Shutter and Alone were mentioned in two of the stories. The 5 stories combines horror, drama, comedy and also real life situation like drug and human trafficking.

Starting off with:

Novice

The camera angle used by the director is kind of an art house film. The message in Novice is to tell us that what goes around comes around, karma. Do not do bad or evil things or else sooner or later you'll have to face the devil inside you.

Ward

The story took place in a hospital, more precisely in a ward. The main character was warded in the same ward with an old man that is about to be taken of life support. Imagine the restlessness of the main character in this situation. One of the more horrific part in the 5 part.

Backpackers

This story is about two Japanese backpackers hitch a ride on a truck to Bangkok and things started to goes wrong. This part is the most boring unless you're a fan of Bio Hazard. Oh by the way, the Japanese girl is talking to her mum on the phone about shopping and the things are cheap in Thailand for those that doesn't understand Japanese because in this scene there's no subtitle.

Salvage

Personally, I felt that this is the most horrofic stories of the five. Second hand car dealer mum looking for his son that is playing in the car warehouse. After watching this story, I might not want to buy a second hand car anymore. Scary.

In The End

My guess is this part is directed by the director who made Alone. Took place in a studio where they were filming Alone 2 lol. This is my favourite part of all the five. It got the most response of the audience. A must watch. I don't want to spoil the surprise here. :p

Overall, Phobia 2 is worth to pay money and go to the cinema and watch. Hey, Thai horror movie if of good standard. It's already in a cinema near you, now go and have good scare and a good laugh. ;)

The Craziest Project Alpha Blogger

Crazy! Crazy! These are the two first words from the opening song "Crazy" sang by Ash Nair that you'll hear when you are watching the Project Alpha video. Crazy is the right word to describe the current Project Alpha featured blogger that is on this week. It's non other than the infamous blogger from SixthSeal.com, Huai Bin.

Those of you who follow Huai Bin's blog will know that he used to do drugs. From designer drugs to heroin, which he also blog about he's usage of it. He went into rehab three times to kick of his drugs addiction. Finally in his 3rd time he successfully kick the habit after spending 1 and a half year in the rehabilitation center. From the video, he says that one can't even stand a day in rehab, and he's been in there for so long. That also explain his MIA from the blog scene during that time frame. Nicole, another Project Alpha blogger even did an interview with him for her column Blogged Out titled "Former drug blogger comes clean about his past" in The Star, Metro. He even got arrested for drugs possession. Now isn't that crazy? But he's come clean now. Drug free. If you want to listen to him telling the story catch it on Project Alpha. I'll show you Episode 1 here to get you started.

He also a fanatic for pain. I really don't know how many piercings and tattoos he has on or in his body. His wrist, tongue and even his nipples got piercing. His back and his hand got tattoo. He also like flammable stuff. He did experiment with petrol, kerosene, you name it. Maybe it's because it's influence by the pyrotechnics street show he saw at Gurney Drives when we were in Penang. You can see that in one of the episode in the ending credits you see him spitting out kerosene. My guess is that he's trying to perform one of the fire tricks.

He eats crazy stuff like live octopus and most recently dog meat when he was in Korea. When I was in Penang with him, even after each of us had 2 jugs of beer and were on the way to the hotel entrance after his friend dropped us back, he still can remember that we had planned to go eat Sup Torpedo (bull penis soup). The funny thing is, the day after, he totally forgot that he ever had Sup Torpedo.

We were pretty high on beer already.

Thanks to Nigel and Sony Pictures Malaysia, I was able to catch Michael Jackson, This Is It at the night of the premiere which was last Wednesday. Since Beyonce concert was postponed until further notice, why not go ahead and watch this concert that is made with heart and love. Trust me, you won't regret it. If Michael Jackson is still alive, I am sure he won't cancel or postpone his concert in Malaysia lol.

Updating Facebook Status Through SMS by XPAX

I don't have a smart phone so when I have something that I want to say in my Facebook status, I'll have to look for a PC to go online to update it. I used to be able to update on my status through SMS using PacMee service which is now defunct. I think Twitter killed it :p

I'm Back From Nuffnang Blog Awards, Singapore

Hello! Hello! Hello!

It's been 3 days that this blog is not updated. Not too long nor too short lol. Nuffnang Asia Pacific Blog Awards ended successfully without much hiccups. It's is quite a grand gala dinner. Red carpet for the bloggers to walk on. Also a star studded event. It felt like a Oscar for blog event lol.

First of all, thank you Nuffnang for the invite and the hard work the Nuffies put in to make sure everything is running smoothly like the transportation, accommodation, seating, and tour. Although there's a minor hiccup in the accommodation part, which is due to the lack of experience from the hotel side in handling such a large crowd like us. Rough estimation of 120 people checking in at one go. And of course there's the mis-communication issue that was brought to light after so many hinting in twitter and what not.

Second is to thank all of you again that voted for me on the Slurpeelicious contest. Really appreciate it.

Most of you would have known by now that Xia Xue swept 3 awards, which is Most Influential, Best Blog Design and Region Best Blog (garnered from overall most votes).

While Malaysia very own Kenny Sia only manage to win the Best Entertainment Blog award. It's funny when Xia Xue was preparing to give her speech on her 3rd award of the night, Kenny went up the stage and did a Kanye West move on her. LOL.

A bit sad though that my taukehsoh didn't win the Best Travel Blog award. Ah, but getting nominated, already means her blog is one of the best in the category.

The Best Celebrity Blog went to Joanne Peh of Little Nyoya fame. No doubt about it, the other nominees are not as well known as her. The people there that night was like queuing up to take picture with her when she's on in the Nuffnang Award background area having her picture taken by the media. Talk about star attraction.

I voted for Hanis in the Best Celebrity Blog award though lol. I think Hanis accepted the result with an open heart.

I am so happy that YC won the Best Hidden Gem award. I diligently voted for her the past few weeks. Her doodling is very funny.

Tomorrow morning I will be going to Singapore for the Nuffnang Asia-Pacific Blog Awards Gala Dinner. Journey starts in the morning 8 am. I most probably have no access to a computer while I am in Singapore, so there might no be any update until Monday 26th Oct. I think I will have my breakfast in Yut Kee, Jalan Dang Wangi. Anyone want to join me?

For those that will going see you tomorrow morning, especially those Group A-ce people. We'll be touring together. We're gonna have some fun because our IC (Person In Charge of Group A) will be Elaine, Elise, Firdy and Yee Hou.

Who is BeutifulNara?

To be honest. I only got to know about BeautifulNara when I see the announcement of Project Alpha. From the name BeutifulNara.com, one would have thought that the blogger behind it will be a female. Wrong! It's actually blog by a very down to earth guy that is working as an accountant. He's name is Nazuwan.

Find out from Episode 1, why the name BeautifulNara. I'm not going to tell you here.

How the hell did I know whether he's a down to earth and work as an accountant? Even before I watch the episodes in Project Alpha and I don't read the blog, I already know. That is because I met the man himself. Yupe. Nazuwan my man. I was at the XBerry Party and I saw Nicole and Casey in Italiannies, then I went to say hello to them. Nazuwan was there to with them. Nicole and Casey were so nice to treat us some pepperoni pizza. Yummy.

At first I don't know who he was because he didn't introduce himself as "Hi, I'm Beautiful Nara wtf." He look kinda familiar, so then I asked him, "You're BeautifulNara right?" He said,"Yes." After the meal, I bumped into Nazuwan and his best friend Hilmi.

Why I say Nazuwan is a very down to earth guy? Well, he's very friendly and a bit shy in this kind of event. He saw some celebrity like Joe Flizzow, and wanted to take picture with him but do not dare. So, I, whom is a seasoned event camwhorer helped him to ask for a picture with Fizzoe and Rudy. LOL. Actually, Rudy knows me, so it's kind of easy. The next celebrity is Yasmin. I also helped to have our picture taken with her. Thanks Hilmi for being behind the camera. Oh, by the way, where's the pictures, tag me lah in FB? :p

David from Nuffnang then invited him to an after party in MOS and Nazuwan was so kind to ask me to tag along. So, the three of us went to party! Oh, he may be a bit shy with celebrity but he blogs a lot about celebrity gossip kekeke. He also has a very pretty girl friend. I heard from Hilmi that they are going to engaged soon. Congrats bro.

Of Miss World Malaysia & Pasta de Gohan, Sunway Pyramid

Early this month, I went to Sunway Pyramid to support Bangsar Babe in the final of Miss World Malaysia 2009, she's one of the finalist. I reached there about 7 p.m. but the final only starts at 8 p.m. Since there's still time and my stomach is growling, so I went to Pasta de Gohan for dinner. (For guy that is not interested about food can scroll down for picture of the Miss World Malaysia 2009 :p)

I've been wanted to try Pasta de Gohan for a long time but alas, Sunway Pyramid is a place that I rarely step foot in unless there's any event there. This month and last month, I already went there 4 times for events like I.M. Magazine Launch, Miss World Malaysia 2009 Grand Finale, Digi D'Ultimate Birthday Bash and the most recent XPAX XBerry Party. Since, I am already here and there's enough cash in the wallet, so I won't miss this chance to try Pasta de Gohan, if not I won't know when I'll be coming to Sunway Pyramid again.

True to the name, they serve a lot of different style of pasta here. I am here to try their 和風
（wafu (Japanese)） style pasta. Started off with a Japanese clam chowder soup. One word can decribe this soup. SALTY! Even Campbell Soup will taste better than this. FAIL!

For the pasta, I ordered 海胆 (uni) Sea Urchin Spaghetti in wafu sauce. I have to give credit that the pasta is cooked al dente, not to soggy and not to hard, just the right texture and springiness. I think a specially mixed soya sauce was used as the pasta sauce. Too bad the amount of sea urchin that was given is too little to mention here, well sea urchin is quite expensive stuff. They are only charging RM 30 plus (sorry I forgot the exact amount), so you can't expect a lot of sea urchin. This pasta is good for those that like sea urchin but for those that can't stand the special taste of sea urchin won't like it at all. I found that using sea urchin in a pasta is not a good idea at all. I still prefer to eat it in the form of sushi, sashimi or even uni tofu.

Ah, this is quite a disappointment for my first time in Pasta de Gohan. It makes me wonder to come back again or not. Even though there are still a lot of different pasta that I haven't try yet, there's still the alternative Pasta Zanmai that got my thumbs up. Talking about that, it may be a time for me to revisit Pasta Zanmai, anyone want to join me? :p

Okay, after filling up my stomach it's time for the show. It says to start at 8pm but the real time it starts is 9pm -_-

The invited guest will be serve with food from Sakae Sushi.

The show opens with Soo Wincci doing a song from her debut EP. For those of you that don't read The Star, she's the winner of Miss World Malaysia 2008. While she's singing, a batch of finalists already getting ready near the stairs to the stage with their sports wear by Schwarzenbach.

And very quickly they changed into swimsuit. They were like running back to the backstage to change after the sports wear, that is what I meant very quickly.

Next up, is a more traditional taste. Baju Kebaya. 1Malaysia mah. I starting to think that this theme maybe a bit overuse as in what Jeff Ooi has written in this post, this post, and this post.

After that, the girls get to get some rest because it is time for the performance by the children of some orphanage and their instructors. They did a few nice songs, I only able to recognize You Raise Me Up.

Oh, the very confidence girl that was shown in the audition were invited to sing a Celine Dion's My Heart Will Goes On that she sang during the audition.

Well, even if you don't make into the finals of Miss World Malaysia 2009, you are very suitable in the showbiz, because you sure got guts singing in front of so many people. I would have pee in my pants to be on stage. Salute.

Hey, I see Miss Popular there.

As all of us expected, Bangsar Babe won the Miss Popular title. As expected of a blogger. She also made it to the top 10 finalists.

Stefanie Chua got first runner-up and Thanuja was crown Miss World Malaysia 2009.

Later the organizer called Sue Lynn and told her that she's the 3rd Runner-up wtf. Well, it's a very good experience.

Oh! Sushi, Mid Valley Megamall

Before I went to the screening of BARD (Beyond A Reasonable Doubt lol) last month, I went to Oh! Sushi for dinner with Sheila that I invited to join me for the movie screening. At first I want to go to the Japanese Izakaya next to Oh! Sushi to eat Japanese curry pork cutlet rice but Sheila don't like to eat rice, so we embarked to Oh! Sushi for their ramen instead.

For appetizer, I ordered the salmon sashimi set that comes with raw salmon, raw salmon belly and salmon roe (ikura). I just can't stand to not order ikura if I happen to see it in the menu, just like uni (sea urchin) and foei gras.

The salmon sashimi and belly is quite fresh and the salmon roe is quite popping too.

Sheila ordered a Chicken Mayonnaise ramen, this is the first time I see mayonnaise used in ramen. I tasted a bit of the soup. The taste is just ok only, and a bit too salty.

As for me, of course I order something with pork. Mine is Kushu Ramen, the soup is cook using pork bone and there's chashu. Even, Sheila like the soup, which has a natural sweetness of the pork bone. I upgrade the ramen to use a special kind of ramen, which I forgot the name. It tasted just like the normal ramen, so don't bother to do the upgrade when you're there. Nevertheless, it's a nice delicous ramen.

Time Capsule 2012

Well, I've uploaded a PSP loaded with songs from different decades in the memory stick. The songs are part of the changes in the culture and history of humankind. So, when the time capsule is open in the future. The future will know what kind of music in the 20th and 21st century human was listening to and the way the culture progress from the lyrics of the songs.

Oh, I'll put in the charger too just in case.
