2010 Tri-State Diversity Conference
February 4-5, 2010
Cincinnati Airport Marriott, Hebron, KY

The Tri-State Diversity Conference is designed for Land Grant Universities, including administrators, faculty and staff from Extension, research, and academic programs; private and public university representatives; K-12 educators; community outreach leaders; health and social services professionals; employers and supervisors; human resource staff; and all others wanting to empower greater diversity and cultural understanding within their communities and workplaces.

You are invited to submit an abstract for presentation during the 2010 conference on best practices, curriculum models, research, training, and success stories for implementing diversity initiatives in any of the following focus areas:

· Health and Wellness
· Education and Youth development
· Building Strong Communities v
· Diversity in the Workplace

Conference Goal:

The overall conference goal is to network and link people and resources together in order to better integrate diversity into programs, policies, and practices for creating community well-being. Some 175 - 250 participants are expected to attend.

Conference Objectives:

1. Showcase best practices, curriculum models, research, outreach strategies, training methods, and/or success stories for implementing community-based or work related diversity initiatives in the areas of education and youth development, community development, the health field, and the workplace.
2. To identify research needs and questions related to culturally diverse practices.
3. To network and link resources to help integrate diversity into programs, policies, and accepted
practices for creating community and workplace well-being.
4. To create space for participants to examine their experience through reflective dialogue sessions.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR KLA/KSMA, SELA, ARL National Diversity in Libraries Conference

Proposals are being accepted for the 2008 KLA/KSMA conference SPECTRUM OF THE FUTURE. This is a joint conference with the Southeastern Library Association and the Association of Research Libraries National Diversity in Libraries Conference. All proposals must be submitted electronically.

The link is up on the KLA site. It is under "Conferences" then "Upcoming Conferences" then "Call for Proposals" or the direct link is http://www.kylibasn.org/proposals334.cfm .

All of the websites will have links to the proposal submission form, but you can access it directly from the following link http://kla-itrt.org/conf/

So that there is no confusion this is a call for mini-sessions and poster sessions. Mini-sessions will last 50 minutes as in the past.

The deadline to submit a proposal is January 31, 2008. Notification of accepted proposals will take place February 29, 2008.

This is a call for workshop proposals on best practices, curriculum models, outreach strategies, research, grassroots programming and success stories for implementing community-based educational programs and initiatives that promote the success and empowerment of Latino and multi-cultural students through action and/or collaborative community partnerships.

The Access and Opportunity Summit is designed for administrators, faculty, staff and students from private and public universities in the areas of Diversity, Multicultural Affairs, Student Affairs, First Year Experience Programs, Student Development and Student Activities; K-12 educators; community outreach program developers; social services professionals; and anyone wanting to support student access to and success in higher education is invited to present and attend.

Sponsoring organizations: Bluegrass Community and Technical College Department of Multicultural Affairs and Office of Hispanic Outreach and Services, Kentucky State University Land Grant Hispanic Initiative

Objectives:
1. Highlight best practices, curriculum models, research, outreach strategies, grassroots programming and success stories for implementing community-based educational programs and initiatives that promote the success and empowerment of Latino and multi-cultural students through action and/or collaborative community partnerships.
2. To network and link resources to help integrate all students (Latino, immigrant and/or multi-cultural students) into programs, policies, practices and partnerships that create community involvement and greater educational attainment.

4. To motivate educators and community members to promote higher education to all students.

Suggested Themes include:
* Bridging cultural gaps through education
* Promoting equal educational access for all students
* Coalition building across cultural barriers
* Fostering and developing student leadership
* Team building relevant for multicultural students and/or diversity training
* Successful peer mentoring programs that promote student success
* Barriers to minority/immigrant student success and creative and innovative solutions
* Combating gang recruitment and activity through education and community partnerships

All proposals will be peer-reviewed. Scoring will focus on how well proposals address the theme and objectives of the conference. More points will be given to workshops that appeal to a variety of different learning styles and that include interaction with participants.

Hey, folks,

I thought we had a productive conference call today. The fact is that there is much that we can do to help ensure success in the field, both for librarianship as a whole and for individual librarians. Many of the skills necessary to succeed are not taught as well as they could be (I see some terribly-written resumes every time we recruit for a job!). I really like the idea of a "Library Success Institute" as a series of related short programs.
