Rumors Boutique in La Jolla had a fashion show at the Ivy Hotel in Downtown San Diego. I photographed the event. Rumors Boutique hired 4 models to wear 4 outfits a piece throughout the evening. I'm stoked on the images that I got. You'll see some of my images in their ads soon.

HesH SesH Anniversary

The first year has passed. Many great events behind us and many more ahead of us. Skateboarding. This HesH SesH marks the beginning of the next year. John Snay and Zach Petschek have been putting this together every other month since the first one on March 31st, 2007. At the last one we had an astro jump that was a hit. We decided to top ourselves this time with something better. We reserved a joisting arena instead. You'll have to see the images to understand. I knew someone would get hurt at some point. This thing was too much fun for someone not to walk away with a limp, or gash. Craig Price too the prize on that one. Apparently Daryl Schiflett was a soldier in a past life. Daryl hit Craig so hard in the head that he gushed blood all over the mat from large hole in the middle of his head. Needless to say no one would fight Daryl after that.

Thanks to some contributions from Black Wax we held a second best trick contest. This one was a hard one to judge. Everyone was given 15 minutes to throw down their best shit. Back noseblunt, bigspin front B 270 out, hard flip back 50, kickflip front Board 270 out, kickflip back smith, switch lip. It was hard to judge. Finally we had a tie with big spin front board 270 and hard flip back 50. Thank you Black wax for your donations.

The Meaning of Life

Life sucks. Life gives you shit and then gives you seconds. This policy only applies when you ignore the good. Everything is a learning experience and an opportunity to better yourself. I sounds like a motivational speaker. But seriously. I was forced to move from my place. I enjoy living here. My roommate is cool and the location is perfect. I am within walking distance of everything from vons to target to denny's. But now I must move on. I could call this a bad luck experience and be depressed. However instead I realized that this an opportunity to move into a bigger room and possibly pay a lower rent. Isn't a lower cost worth more than convenience sometimes? Convenience is overrated. Convenience is convenient. There's no question. However it eliminates the time you are experiencing the world. A wise man once said "Life is what happens to you when you're making plans for something else." That means that when you go to the supermarket and you get a flat tire. Then a guy stops to help you. You chat with him over the situation and become friends after that. That situation would never happen if you ordered your groceries online because it's more convenient. Everyone has a story like that. Hopefully you have more than that. By skateboarding with a friend at a school that you hate to skate, you spot a dodge ball. Within a few minutes no one is skating and everyone is running around the school playing an enhanced game of dodgeball. Your favorite skatepark is conveniently down the street but you went to this bullshit skate spot instead and life took it's course. Share your stories. Give me a life story. Leave a comment and let me hear another. I could go on for days. Life happens and life gives you shit. Keep your pace forward and evade the obstacles.

The biggest session to date. Also the most eventful session so far. The morning started with picking up the boxes and quarterpipe. That was a hell of an ordeal. Crystal Soucie drove 3 boxes and a rail to the park while Sam Carey and I drove the quarterpipe back. This is a solid ramp made of the most dense 2x6's I have ever encountered. It took 4 of us to walk it into his truck. In the process we bent the tailgate from the weight. Afterwards it came straight up almost 9 feet out of the truck bed. When we got there some souls had already began to collect and assemble. Sam Carey drove his truck down to the spot so we could unload it. With the help of a few kids we managed to wiggle the quarterpipe out of the truck and into place without anyone getting hurt. At that point the guy delivering the astro jump showed up so I talked to him and got him started. As I returned there was a man in blue talking to Sam next to his truck that was still parked on the sidewalk in the park. Not good.

I walked back over and asked what the problem was. The officer explained that no vehicles are aloud within the park and this event required a permit from the city. This was appalling since I had spoken to the La Mesa Parks and Recreation department about this shindig. In fact this was the 3 time I had checked in about having one of these events. An event we have had every other month for a year. Politely, but aggressively, I preached my case and spelled out everything that I had done. He budged but not far enough out of my way. I then pointed out the permit that I had for the astro jump already. Still nothing. Finally I gave notice to the band of ancient warriors swinging sticks and thrusting swords at each other only a hundred yards away. "They are joisting eachother right over there. Do they need a permit too? They are actually trying to hurt each other. Where do you draw the line?" With nothing to say he took Sam up to his car and we all waited in suspense. Waiting for the final result. Was today in vane? Do we have to tell 20 kids and growing that they must all go home now? That would be devastating considering all the planning and money already spent. All the money coming out of our pockets.

Sam returned slowly without the cop. He then explained to us that the officer looked through 3 different law books trying to find the exact code that says we cannot be here. He didn't find anything. Not even one about Sam driving in the park. We won! Joyous days!

This was the biggest turnout to record. At one point we had 45 people. The astro jump was a hit as it will be next time. In the spirit of our joisting friends we might have a battle theme this time.

Hanger 94

Goat Canyon Trestle

East of El Cajon, east of Alpine, East of The Golden Acorn Casino, keep going keep going. All the way to the edge of the county. You reach a sign that says "Jacumba Next Exit." Pull off and drive down a dirt road for a half mile. Find a place to park and grab your water. It's a 7 mile hike along the train tracks. Straight up "Stand By Me" steez. Six tunnels, three of which are so long that you cannot see the ground in front of you although you can see the exit. One of those is a half a mile long.

There are goats and hawks, and cactus and dirt and rocks. There is debris from excavations of yester-year. You pass by damaged train cars that collided with a rock or fell off the cliff to deteriorate into time. At the end of the road is the largest wooden trestle in the world. At its highest point it's 180 tall. It curves from one peak to another, one tunnel to another. It was fun and exciting but next time I'm riding a bike instead.

San Diego Fires

The fires of October 2007 were incredible. The damage done was catastrophic and also an amusing spectacle. My heart goes out to those that lost everything. I posted photos already of the aftermath. Here's the duringmath. The sky was an eerie orangish red and shadows were a green of sorts. The air was dry and irritating. The smoke vied with the sun for control of the sky. The smoke usurped in most of the county. It was an amazing week. Photographs only spell out a small portion of the emotion that took place.

If you go to the Washington skatepark website (I didn't know they had one either until now) and click on the sponsors page you will see a list of contributors. A list of companies that donated to the washington skatepark crew to get the park built. You can see the usual line up, Element, DC, Tum-Yeto, Black Box etc. However the two strangest are Premise Intelligence Agency and Nestle. Rock on for their contributions and we must all be thankful but who would have thought raw, dirty, bloody, transition skaters would have to thank a multi million dollar chocolate company?

Happy 8. I was a little dissapointed this morning. When I awoke and looked outside there were no flying cars, no aliens amongst us and food was not in pill form. The future is supposed to be all those things and more. I feel ripped off. Better luck next year.

The Whaley House

I took a trip into the Whaley house today not expecting much more than a look at a house with relics to the past. I took some photos with some unexplainable "flare" in them. These photos are not photoshopped in any way. Additionally I took a couple just cool shots having no mysterious phenomenon.

This was in the court room. I didn't see any mysterious figures here but it's a good example of what flare actually looks like.

I love shooting for San Diego National Bank. They are a happy group of people. Bankers by trade and a bit crazy by night. My last photo of the night was a girl riding a guy like a horse. I just photographed the staff photos for their holiday party tonight. I just hope their next staff rally can size up to this one. I"ll post the photos from it as soon as they are finished.
