He was pretty concerned over /me raising issues of comp off in front of other people, which [he said] could give rise to such demands in the whole team. Management wants us (me and two other workers) to work over this weekend to finish a project. When I raised the issue of Comp Off (compensatory off) during some time when the work load is light I got an evasive answer which turned out to be a 'No'. I've been pretty angry at this. I'm almost towards the end of EGB (Gödel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid). I've immensely enjoyed reading the book, even though I did gloss over the parts where it required me to do some math. I guess I'd be coming back to it sometime again and finishing all the exercises and puzzles. Which is what I did with The Emperor's New Mind. It is certainly turning my head into mush, forcing me to think about a lot of things which I had stopped thinking about a long time ago. Since childhood. The review mentions "some compared reading it to giving birth" . This is true. I missed writing about my trip to bangalore. I went there some 2 weeks ago, and had a blast. After a long long time I took a day [friday] off, and caught a bus on thursday evening. Presto! On Friday morning I reach bangalore. Roshan ("Papa Rosh" aka OCR), being the kind soul he is, came to pick me up from the Bus stand which is almost like 15-20 kms from where they live. Having arrived at aaditya soodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14545868880801355392noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3918547.post-1062433689022146662003-09-01T09:28:00.000-07:002003-09-01T22:31:05.276-07:00V is gone :-( My friend V has gone off to bangalore for 4 months. And I'm already missing her. It is fun talking to her, and having verbal fights with her (she does have a sharp tongue ;-) ). Though she cribs like hell about everything when she is in the mood (I'm guilty of that too, but she is incredible: I never knew someone could crib so much!) She's left today morning. On sunday she wanted to take aaditya soodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14545868880801355392noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3918547.post-1062412193817955882003-09-01T03:29:00.000-07:002003-09-01T22:28:56.820-07:00laptop works! Yay! Finally I got debian up and running. I've been working on GNU/Linux for so long that I've forgotten how to deal with Windows. The most basic, sureshot, nuke-'em kind of solution: Reinstall! I reinstall XP. Put in the gateway address, the IP address, subnet mask, DNS IPs and viola! It Just Works (TM). So I hastily get Mozilla-Firebird for Windows (can't get no satisfaction from IE6), and aaditya soodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14545868880801355392noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3918547.post-1062341496825530622003-08-31T07:51:00.000-07:002003-09-01T22:29:21.713-07:00Windows ME sucks! The damn thing installed after an hour and now it refuses to recogonize my DVD/CD-ROM drive. So I'm back to installing XP Home. Yay! I finally became a FSF Associate member. Member #1541. Forked $120 for it though, which means quite a significant sum in Indian Rupees. Is it possible for one to grow totally detached from the work they do? I seem to have. It just doesn't matter anymore what I do. Almost like an automaton. There seem to be just two goals now: get a laptop and get out of here. The latter is being held over due to the former. I've more or less forgotten about anything else.
