As part of his commitment to proliferate his obsessive art to the widest possible audience *Gary Farrelly (1983-2077) is delighted to announce the inauguration of his PORTABLE KUNSTEMBASSY. Unlike conventional exhibition spaces or online documentation environments - This mobile body of the artists work and ephemera can be carried with the same ease as an item of hand-luggage onto a modern airliner. Originally a leatherette cutlery demonstration case, it underwent substantial renovation and refitting in the first quarter of 2009. Actually christened several months ago by the artist and several close associates - It is unclear why the public inauguration has waited until this summertime date. The PORTABLEKUNSTEMBASSY contains photographs of the artist, research clippings, several small artworks as well as a photo homage to his muse - Berlin based artist Sophie Iremonger.

Gary Farrelly (1983-2077) has been invited by ScAle architects (Maurizio Scalera and Benedetta Alessi) to partake in their survey+ of monument construction in The Republic of Ireland 1989 - 2009. The artist will be furnishing the collaboration with proposed monuments - that glorify the infrastructural, economic, engineering and scientific prowess of Haubstadt Hibernia. The aim: To restore the self confidence and ultimately the economic fortunes of the nation. As part of the ongoing auto-propulsive strategy of Herr Farrelly - It is envisaged that in the fullness of time said monuments will be constructed. The project was conceived and is organized by Scalera and Alessi.

2009 - FIRST QUARTER REPORT - KUNSTKAMPH

The proliferation of the obsessive art of Gary Farrelly (1983-2077) has gained momentum in the first quarter of 2009. On all fronts the artist’s kunstkamph surges forward - It is an utter rout. At the core of this impressive progress is the evolution of the artworks. Detail has been a central preoccupation thus far in 2009. At the artist’s recent exhibition KUNSTBUREAUCRACY at Galerie W - The elevated level of technical, personal and aesthetic detail was evident. The artist is now an a++ expert in all his core subject matter areas: Airliners, flight planning*utopia, secret police, motorway *fellatio and obsessive indexing systems. New obsessions and areas of research are constantly being assimilated into the cube head. Stagnation is not possible.

Collaborations with other obsessive artists have forged new directions in the evolution of the kunstkamph. A new transatlantic postal collaboration with Charles Farrell has been inaugurated. Existing collaborations and exchanges with Sophie Iremonger, Laura Petitbone, Whitetrash art and others also stimulate new obsessions and productivity. Onward - Upward - Forward. A planned new postal collaboration with Belfast artist David Swiggan is set to commence this summer. Other/ written postal correspondence will be donated to The Irish State upon the artists death in 2077.

At this time it should be noted that Farrelly successfully completed his second 2 year plan. Productivity is up, obsession is up, finances are up, vitality is up, debt is down, and rhetoric is up and so forth. The publication of the third plan is imminent and is expected to contain radical, ambitious and fetishiostic targets. In addition to the permanent exhibition at Galerie W, Paris - there have been works by Farrelly in various shows and events in Dublin, Cork, NewYorK, Denver, Tehran, Berlin, Belgrade, Tehran and Istanbul.

Just before an embassy would be stormed, the staff would be ordered to black out all incriminating information contained in the dossiers. The blacking out would usually be carried out by a compact, featureless man in a beige suit, or a much tanned woman with big hair, gold bangles and duty free-perfume. Is she the ambassador’s wife, secretary or mistress? This will depend on the territory this frenetic activity was taking place in. The result was a striking striped aesthetic. Information rendered useless by the stroke of a thick marker. The artist bodies forth his most sensitive and incriminating ideas ******** ********* in works censored in line with this principal.

As part of the festivities surrounding the exhibition KUNSTBUREAUCRACY by Gary Farrelly (1983-2077), the artist collaborated with Paris based Concrete, Nostalgic, New Wave ensemble Les Aéroplanes. Les Aéroplanes played an airport inspired set at both the vernissage of the exhibition and at the later Podpeinturdézenfants ateliers.

PROPAGANDA AND COMMUNICATIONS REVIEW

Gary Farrelly 1983-2077 is delighted to announce that the harmonization of all communications centers is now complete. This great achievement was realized as part of the artist's second three year plan (2007-2009). Great efficiencies have been achieved by fusing the previously separate Postal Communications and Online Proliferation dossiers. At this time, the proliferation of Farrelly's obsessive art works and cultural practice can be accelerated. Current efforts focused in three countries with outlying interests in a further seven territories is forecast to increase 400% during the period of the artist`s third two year plan (2009-2011). The Communications dossier is on limited display at the artist’s studio in Paris.

Gary Farrelly est un obsédé. Si on voulait jouer à faire de la psycanalyse on potpourris facilement situer la naissance de son obsession à un moment précis de son enfance quand il entre pour la première fois dans un aéroport. Une vision qui a valeur d’épiphanie pour le petit Gary : voilà un espace où circule le monde, où tout le monde circule ; une nouvelle Babel de visages, de langues, de signes. Et de messages « codés » qui défilent sur un immense panneau qui ne demandent qu’à être décryptés…
Mais devons nous vraiment nous accomoder d’une banale explication psy ? Pourquoi expliquer une obsession ? Allons plutôt découvrir son univers, comme on partirait en voyage. Pas de bagages, juste un petit guide avec des mots clé : fétichisme, répétitivité, accumulation, réthorique, ordre, utopie.
Sa nouvelle exposition à la Galerie W présente un travail « in progress » commencé en 2007. Comme dans toute son oeuvre il est question d’aéroports, d’infrastructures, de frontières imaginaires, de tiroirs remplis de dossiers, de listes. Comme un enfant qui joue à réinventer le monde, Gary se transforme en architecte-créateur d’un monde nouveau où les aéroports deviennent les nouvelles métropoles, et les listes de passagers sont des bottins. Avec humour il rebaptise ces nouveaux espaces avec les noms de ses héros. Voici donc apparaître dans cette nouvelle topographie, l’aéroport international Dalida, l’autoroute France Galle et la place des Marins Sexy. Avec le sérieux qui sied à tout bureaucrate despotique et obsessionnel, Gary se renferme tous les jours dans son minuscule bureau – son cockpit, il l’appelle - et dessine, colorie, coupe, colle, peint, transforme. Là où certains artistes jouent à soustraire, lui il additionne, ajoute, cumule, recycle. Et comme son monde imaginaire prend forme et se développe, de la même façon ses oeuvres se dilatent en occupant les espaces de la galerie : partout des tableaux de divers formats, des objets détournés, des cartes retravaillées, des meubles contenants d’énormes dossiers. Pas de matières nobles ici, plutôt des matériaux pauvres tel le carton, la toile brute, des petites planches en bois, des pochettes en plastique, et des milliers de feuilles de papier qu’il recycle à sa guise. Et comme tout bureaucrate qu’on respecte il fiche et répertorie tout, même les petits bouts de papier qu’il découpe en forme de losange qu’il numérote et fiche avant des les coller ensemble pour composer un nouveau tableau.
Dans son monde réglé et ordonné une utopie plus large que l’artiste prend vie : ici l’art n’est pas salvateur mais ordonnateur. Gary a besoin d’ordre pour ne pas sombrer dans ce qu’il appelle « le désordre chaotique de mon esprit ».
Sur chacune de ses oeuvres, en guise de signature deux dates : 1983-2077. Gary est aussi certain de sa date naissance que de celle de sa mort, il dit préférer les artistes morts aux vivants. Ou simplement, dans son obsession de tout contrôler, il veut conjurer le sort qui nous attend tous. Mais il est un optimiste : il compte bien vivre jusqu’à cent ans.
Biographie
Gary Farrelly est né en 1983 à Dublin où il a fréquenté le National College of Art et a monté ses premières expositions. Depuis ses oeuvres ont été présentées aux USA, en France, Allemagne et en Iran. Cofondateur du groupe Desfatenist et coauteur de « Manifesto for an Obsessive Art » Farelly vit et travaille à Paris où il occupe une pièce - baptisée Kunstbureau - au sein de la Galerie W.

Gary Farrelly currently produces his artworks in his cockpit sized Kunstbureau(top) at Galerie W, Rue Lepic in Paris. Prior to moving to Paris, the artist occupied several other 'centers of cultural production and proliferation' in his native Dublin. One of which was located in the now demolished slum on Buckinham street(bottom). In addition to working and researching in these usually tiny spaces - Farrelly also likes to entertain* other obsessives - blitzkreiging them with generic alcahols and his infectioos enthusiasm.

Born in Dublin, 1983, Gary Farrelly is an emerging Irish artist currently based in Paris. One of the founders of The Defastenist movement, Farrelly co-wrote 'the manifesto for an obsessive art' in 2006 with curators Padraic Moore, Donna Marie O'Donovan and musician David Turpin. Though young, Farrelly has accrued an impressive résumé of exhibitions and artistic projects in several countries including Ireland, France, Germany, The United States and Iran.

For Gary Farrelly (1983-2077), ideological and aesthetic compromise is the most difficult aspect of "Real Life". As a consequence, he furnishes a "compensating" art that is a precise physical manifestation of egocentric world view. In and through his practice he develops strategies to implement his will. Habitually working with the flotsam and jetsam of an ultra-consumerist society, Farrelly modifies history, revises geographical boundaries and populated the world with images, concepts and issues that stimulate him most.

Through fastidious and obsessive processes Farrelly produces exquisite art objects, which enable him to simultaneously attain a position of perpetually gratifying contingency. By means of devotional commitment to his work Farrelly expects to eventually construct and inhabit that sought after state of utopia

Between 2001 and 2006, Farrelly studied fine art at The National College of Art, Dublin. He began publishing a Xerox publication Kunstbahnhoff in which he illustrated his artistic principals supported with decorative diagrams and statistics. Through the dissemination of Kunstbahnhoff, he came in contact with other artists working in the same vein. In 2003 The Defastenist Party was founded, Farrelly contributed to various publications produced by the group. He also presented the parties bi-weekly cabaretta which ran in various improvised locations throughout 2004/5. The Defastenist Party has exhibited as a group half a dozen times in Dublin, Paris and Berlin - Farrelly has been involved and shown on all occasions becoming known for his 'edgy and gifted paintings and prints'(the Dubliner April 2005) and his highly rhetorical discourse.

Gary Farrelly has had three solo exhibitions at the time of writing: Saddam International Airport (2006) where he exhibited a series of works inspired by airports built by despots beside drawings of invented airports dedicated to his own personal heroes and cultural icons (e.g. Quentin Crisp International Airport). Obsessive Territories (2007) featured seven large handmade maps of fictional countries invented by the artist and a series of commerational panels marking their cultural and infrastructural achievements. Kunstbureauobsessive (2007-present) is an on going exhibition of Farrelly's artworks at Galerie W, Paris.

The artwork often involves recurring fixation with utopic, infrastructural and systematic subject matters: aviation, despotism, road building, railways, statistics etc. Often manifested in the form of cartography, diagram and bureaucratic lists - Farrelly infuses these readable formats with personal and rhetorical information that makes the work simultaneously readable and confusing to the spectator.
Producing 7 days a week, 10 hours a day in his windowless cockpit sized studio, the artist creates art objects which have been show by institutions all over the world. Including Whitebox foundation (New York), The Crawford municipal art gallery (Cork), The Belltable (Limerick), A3 Foundation (Paris), and Electrowurst (Berlin). His work has been purchased by collections including. The Cawford Gallery, Marina Guinness, The Academy of everything is possible, Kevin Kavanagh, Martin Lu, Dominique Plassard, Valery and Christy Moore, Damian Mathiews, Caroline de la Marinier, Luca Marenzi and John Bruton (former Irish prime Minister and EU ambassador to the United States.

RESULTS - PARLIMENT DOMINATED (2008) AND TDP - TEMPORARY DISTRIBUTION PROJECT

In late 2006 early 2007 Gary Farrelly collaborated with curator Padraic Moore on the TDP Temporary Distribution Project. Specific artworks produced by Farrelly, were chosen to be distributed to certain artists, writers, critics and characters. The artworks remained in the custody in the participants custody for 12 months. After the period has elapsed, the artwork was returned along with an anecdotal response (visual, recorded or written) to the artwork.

"THE PORTRAIT OF STATISTICS AT AN EARLY STAGE

The collage which is Sebastipol Politik consists of statistics which are actively changing in front of our eyes. Similar to the structure of a collage, the numbers, calculations, lines and abbreviations are unfixed in their multitude of unidentifiable facts, giving the impression of content in transit. The anxiety of, or interest in methologies which cannot escape the chance based procedures of "perfect" data, is further articulated by the underlying magazine cut-out of a multi-coloured candy machine. This young man certainly treats his pallet like USSR candy too; nicotine yellow, cardboard brown, muted pasted orange, even a rose-mauve signature. The summary of this portrait is a collage list of illogically logical political information which aspires to coupe`etats via hijacking the behavior of the society of the spectacle;

A dossier of 100 original drawings by Gary Farrelly has been on display to the public throughout the month of May at The Royal Institute of Architects, Dublin. Part of the exhibition/ Plans, Sections and Elevations, the dossier by Farrelly (third from the left) included works entitled Charles J Haughey International Airport, Network Oligopoly and Design for the head-quarters of a State run hotel chain. Images of the individual works will be posted in the coming weeks and the work is expected to go on show in Paris in summer 2008.

THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL ROAMING BIENNIAL OF TEHRAN

Gary Farrelly will be exhibiting the below posted artwork at the First Annual International Roaming Biennial of Tehran. The exhibition which is themed 'Urban Jealousy' is curated by Serhat koksal and Amirali Ghasemi. The plans for pavillion housing the elaborate obsessive dossiers/ kunstbureaucracy were realised for The A3 foundation - art fair at Place Saint Sulpice in 2007. The plans were some of the first works produced by Farrelly after taking up residence in Paris in early 2007. The plans are now on show at Galerie W.

WHITEBOX GALLERY MASQUERADE AUCTION

Gary Farrelly took part in the fundraising masquerade auction at the Whitebox gallery in New York. Other artists involved in the event included Shimon Okshteyn, Troy Henriksen and Max Gimblett. The work by Farrelly was among the items sold. All proceeds go towards the funding of the Whitebox gallery exhibition programme 2008/9.

OBSESSIVE ARK COMMISSION(2008)

Commissioned by Caroline De La Marnierre. Inspired by Noah's arc, Gary Farrelly constructed a gigantic 2d arc inspired vessel. 60 participants were invited to dine together for an evening, rotating their position at the table quarter hourly. Each table was equipted with art materials. The task was simple, guests had to imagine it was the last day on earth.... the flood waters rising. To create a small something they would like to have remembered. A line from a poem, a phallic drawing, a smutty joke, a mathmatic formula, a message to a loved one, an air disaster diagram etc.

Most modern industrialised societies dedicate infrastructural assets as a way of marking the importance of a national heros, patriots and characters. The naming of airports (points of first contact with a nation), tends to be an honour reserved for the truely iconic figures of a state - John F Kennedy International Airport, Charles De Gaulle International Airport, Vienna Mozart airport etc. In constructing fictional airports in my artworks and naming them after
percieved patriots, heros and personalities (sometimes with a touch of humour or subversion - often deadly serious) - Farrelly challanges the viewer to analyse the contribution, positive or negative, of my nominations to culture and history. This process is also applied by Farrelly in his Autobahn and city street naming works.
