hehe, have I really posted all that much today? It seems like lately I always have something to say...

And yes, the canal trail is absolutely beautiful. There are two other galleries of the place on my smugmug account, both from the same time of year. I'm looking forward to capturing how it looks in the springtime.

There's also a bike/walking/skating trail just over the border in North Augusta called the Greeneway. It's actually paved, and it's pretty nice out there.

But for a truly natural feeling, surrounded by trees and flanked on both sides by water, it's the Augusta Canal all the way.

The canal was originally built for commerce, and eventually the river was harnessed for mill power as well. Nowadays the only traffic on the canal is the canal boat tours that take off from the Interpretive Center downtown (housed at the old Enterprise Mill). I've often seen boats passing by as I've been riding the trail.

My husband and I had a chance to go on one of the boats, but it was like 35 degrees out at the time. Hopefully I'll get to take the tour when it's a little warmer ;>

wow, you get to bike next to that? if things like that canal existed in los angeles, i just might get some sort of exercise.
