Does Work Make People Dull?

There is a saying that 'all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy', and this might have some truth in it. Since I started my business, I have been working most days of every month. I have only recently had a few days off, due to my Sis getting a car, and being able to help me out.
I think that maybe we place too much importance on 'being a busy person', as though it is a status symbol. Perhaps it ought to be the other way around, and people who say they are busy should be treated as if they are fools for wasting their lives.

Cheap Shoes, or Good Shoes?

I have always tended to buy the cheapest things that I can, whereas my Sis, being more fashion conscious, tends to go for the better but more expensive brands. I have to admit though, it is great to put on a high quality pair of shoes, and feel the comfort. I suspect that they might last longer, as well, especially if I have a good wardrobe full of them.
I checked out some Dansko womens shoes the other day, and was delighted. The prices seem good too, not super-cheap, but I don't think I can match the quality for the money I will be spending on them.

My workload eases!

I have now got some help with my work. I have only had one day off since February, as I have been building up my business.
So, it will be great during the next little while to get some planned time off. One of the ways I will be doing this is by allowing my sister to take over for some days, as she can now drive, and has her own car, a 1998 Mercury. It just needs the paperwork done to take over ownership, and get the insurance arranged.

Here he is! The first time I got my son to take the lawn mower was a bit of a push. A Week To Go!

I have only had one day off in over 3 months. That was last Monday, when I snuck a day off by rescheduling my work. But after the end of this month, I am giving up on the weekend work for a bit, and getting my other jobs in order so I can work easier hours and have some family time. The few jobs that remain that require weekend work can be covered by me employing someone, as the gas savings alone in not driving the 120 miles round trip can be better used for wages for someone. Something to look forward to.

Never mind bidding online for items that are for sale, you can actually get away from that insanity by going to buy.com and seeing the goods they have there at great prices. Consumer goods have never been cheaper than right now, with many dealers overstocked, not because the economy is bad and people can't afford things, but more often because everyone is a bit wary about their income sources these days. Whether it is a HDTV or a DVR, the deals are great. The thing is, as the economy picks back up, so will the prices, so now might be the time to do some really good buying that will save a lot in the long run.

Now that things are a bit tighter as far as the economy goes, it really makes sense to pull in the purse strings so to speak, and save some money by doing things that you might not have experienced before. An opportunity? Yes. We all tend to get into a rut as far as our vacation habits go. Right now, my rut is that I haven't been able to have a vacation for a couple of years! But seriously, if you normally fly away to exotic places, you are missing out on the delights of America. You can even rent a small RV, and then do a tour of rv parks throughout the USA. Just think outside the box, it is, after all, summer, so you don't need to fly to Mexico or the Caribbean to seek out some rays.

Here we go again. I get a decent vehicle, but he buys junk that he then spends time working on. I can't stop him doing it, he says that it is a hobby for him, but in fact it just creates stress, and is one more worry in life. His latest gem is a Jeep Grand Cherokee. No, not a 2001 like I had up until last year, but the model before, and with known 'issues'. Like a transmission noise. Like it can't be driven in town until he changes a sensor. I can't understand him, he is retired, and then makes work that he hates. Oh, well, at least I am now OK, no work needed, just make the van payments.

Vegas - The Year-Round Destination.

There are some things that I have always wanted to do, and places I have wanted to see, such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris. I have no idea if I will even get there, as I always seem to be too busy, which although fashionable, is actually crazy and a bit stupid of me really, because life slips away too fast. A more local seeming place to visit is to look at what is offered in the way of Vegas vacations. It looks like a fascinating place, especially at night. Also, there are replicas of many European city landmarks, I believe that they even have a somewhat smaller Eiffel Tower. Two birds with one stone? Maybe.

Van Warning Light Was No Problem

It turns out that the light that came on was not a critical one.
It sets up a code in the engine computer, and this can be later downloaded and referenced in a manual to see what is wrong.
So, it turns out that it is a thing on the engine that just sets up the engine differently for when cruising along, or when accelerating.
Isn't it wonderful to have a Hubby who understands these things? Of maybe he just pretends to understand.
No, I think he must actually really understand, as we only spend about a few hundred dollars each year maintaining vehicles, and that includes oil changes.

My New Van Has A Warning Light!

I have no idea why, but I was driving along, and suddenly the 'check engine' light came on.
I phoned hubby, and he asked me to check over a few things, and said it might just be a sensor, because I had driven a few miles with the light on, and if it was serious, like an oil problem, then he says that the engine would be destroyed by now.
I must remember that. When the light comes on next time, I will be sure not to just carry on driving, as it is possible that sometimes it is something really wrong that will cause damage.

Saving money on the occasional purchases just got a little easier. I mean, things like furniture, TV's, computers, all need replacing at some time or another, in my case normally after the old one breaks down, or gets so bad looking that I have to go for a new one. In the case of our computer, we have one that is likely to be, I guess, more than 5 years old, but it seems to keep working quite well, although I noticed that we have to press the reset button every time we start it up. Anyway, once started, it runs fine, and Hubby does anti-virus scans etc, so we know it is fairly clear of spyware and stuff that might make it run slowly. So, I think it might just run a bit slower when opening webpages because the webpages have gotten more complex. So, Hubby intends to try adding some more computer memory and keep the old girl running a bit longer, the computer that is, not me!

I can't help but wonder...where is the best place to retire, or for that matter, to die?

I always thought that being here in Canada where access to medical benefits and various knowledge about any medical condition is beneficial. I have changed my opinion on this after an old lady i knew from few years ago had a stroke back home. They have a little to no knowledge about the condition and left her in her bed for 2 days before getting her to the hospital. She now have a big percentage of her brain damaged and the doctor advised the family to get her home and let nature take its course. Her family is now always beside her, taking care of her. Some visit her from as far as the other side of the world just to make her feel happy.

My dad on the other hand, who also suffered a stroke is well taking care off. So well that we are not happy when he will not do anything. So now, regardless of his age, he is working part time just to get him going. I often see him stares at the wall. I know a lot of stuff runs in his mind.Who can blame him? he just had a life-threatening episode.

So now I wonder, will my dad be happier back home surrounded with friends and family who will be there to cheer him up and make sure that it will be as comfortable as possible for him? or is he happier here, with all the medicines but feeling alone all the time?
