Can you believe that I didn't offer a speech at the wedding! Based on my past performances, nobody believed that I wouldn't hijack the microphone: obviously I am growing mellow in my middle age.

Thanks to all who said wonderful things about us (lies). A heartfelt thank you to Dolly Oui who bestowed a great cultural honour on Paul who is now considered as her brother-in-law (Toeie). Unable to call him by his Christian name, I cannot wait to hear the name variations and salutations she comes up with.

And......Andy and Kershy: it was noted that the pair of you hot tailed it out for a smoke when time for speeches came round! Chickens, the pair of you.

Ollie Grimwood (pictured at the wedding with his wife Emelie) kindly acted as a stand in wedding photographer along with Jim Bitomsky, and Paul's brother Andy. Ollie stayed up late into the evening to prepare a disk of wedding ceremony photos for us to share (a few at a time as I have time to post them). Thanks Ollie and Em. Ummmm, what will I do today?

Today's the day we're getting married.

Book in from 11.30am if you're staying overnight.

Lunch is at 1pm - BRING A BLANKET. The weather is Perfect.

Ceremony is at 2.30pm sharp. Tardiness will not be tolerated, especially from the bride.

Afternoon Tea at 3.30pm (During afternoon tea the kids will be whisked away for their activities. Spare clothes required for the kids).

BBQ Dinner at 6.30pm.

Bonfire after dinner if weather holds. Otherwise we're all on the verandah of the cafe.

See you around 1ish.

It's looking like the weather is going to hold. If it is fine then we would still like to picnic outside, around the top of the falls.

BRING YOUR PICNIC BLANKET.

Lunch will be served inside as a buffet. Just fill your plates up and wander outside, beneath the trees, to be massaged by the sound of the falls. It's a crying shame that my father (pictured, just weeks before his death) isn't here to cook up copious pots of prawns, scallops and crab. How excellent would that have been!

There's lots of guests coming from afar. Obviously they won't know any of you feral country bumpkins so please do introduce yourself to everybody and let each other know how you know either Paul or myself.

Don't forget a cardie for the evening: high altitude plus waterfall spray makes for chilly evenings.

The Hen's Party was great: relaxed and quiet, we all got to chat and talk shit. Greta organised for everyone to bring a gift that reflects marriage and relationships. I tell you, Greta and Gayle Thomas need to win awards for creativity and talking bullshit.

I didn't like that Greta made me eat dinner food before dessert (pictured). Worse was when she told me the following day that she had made two of the meringue cakes. I left her house without even starting the second one. What a waste.

I had four glasses of champagne (my limit is two) and it took me three days to recover.

The Wedding Quilt

I have decided that I rather fancy a wedding quilt. If you're up for it, I would like a decorated square from each of our wedding guests that will be sewn into a wedding quilt card for our marriage bed.

So, for all you crafty men and women...don't buy us a Hallmark card. Instead, a six and a half inch by six and a half inch (now, now, stop being rude) cotton square, embroidered, beaded on or indelible penned upon will make a precious, treasured and most personal quilted wedding card from you. Alternatively, a knitted or crocheted square of the same proportions would fit the bill...as long as it's made by you.

Paul's Mum, Gilly, is going to sew all the squares together and we're going to sleep with each of you, every single night.

I know that some of you are inherently craftless so I'll take some squares of cotton and indelible pens to the wedding in the rainforest. Please, upon these squares, write us your message and help us to create a lasting memento of our wedding in the rainforest.

I've started my square and it will take pride of place in the centre of the quilt. Beautiful fillet crochet in fine white silken thread, it will read, "Make the bloody bed yourself." Just joking, I would never say anything so base!

If you want some hints on what I hope to achieve by sewing a combined wedding quilt, re watch "How to make an American quilt" (Winona Ryder, 1995). It's one of my favorite chick flicks and I intend to pull up a whole therapy around life story quilting by the time I die.

You've all seen the photos of the drop dead adorable Alexander. The reason we've created a face map is so that you'll be able to navigate your way through the sea of faces.

Well that darn Alexander has gone and spoilt it. Usually it's women who confuse by changing the colour and style of their hair, Alexander has gone one better. The little blighter shaved for a cure and now I can't tell if he's Alexander or a hairless, big eared burgular!!!

Happy Birthday to the Norfolk Island Honeymoon Favourite Uncle: John Johnston

Today is St Patrick's Day. The history is long and firmly embedded with patriarchal and dominant discourses of phallocentric and religious dogmas. I won't bore you with the history, I'll wait until I've had too much to drink at the wedding and then do it!!!

Contemporary St Paddy's Day celebrations have swung back to pre Christian influences and revolve more around the mythical movements of small, red haired larrikans, dressed in green and pointing the way toward the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The pot of gold is in fact xxxx and several inferior beer stops along the path to the bottom of the rainbow result in the served beer turning green with envy of their Australian beer peer.

Leprechauns are funny little creatures. Mythical Irish elves or faeries that occupy a magical realm somewhere between the physical and spirit world, they love their pipe, drink and solitude. 'Tis said that on occasion they become social, dance and engage in antics designed to drive the POMs to distraction

Ummm, sounds an awful lot like our honeymoon plans for Norfolk Island. We'd discussed going to Norfolk, a place neither of us has been before, but when we checked the prices we reconsidered!!!!! And then we spoke with Paul's Uncle John: a consultant for Norfolk Island. Our honeymoon pot of gold would not have happened without the discerning advise, assistance and finger pointing from that favourite uncle, John Johnson. Like a mythical faerie, John kindly waved his magic hands and organised some discounted fares and accommodation for us. YIPPPPPPPP YAHHHHHHHHH: you the leprechaun man John.

And why is he a leprechaun? He is neither red haired, 12 inches tall, dressed in ill fitting green suits, or a beer swilling larrikan. But, he is born on St Paddy's day and therefore, according to bastardised history turning back to the truth, he is leprechaun.

It seems that I have upset the original princess (the one giving Paul away because the kids don't need him anymore) because I haven't included enough photographs of her.

So here's my beautiful daughter Jade (aka Nice Lady, as is Paul):

But it's amazing what a bath and a bit of flea power does.

We've Been Nominated for a Wedding Article Award

We've received lots of positive comments on creating this wedding site. Many of our guests are saying that they love the information and the ascorbic sense of humour (that's Paul's contribution [said as I bat my eyelids innocently]).

Given that it is a private blog that only our guests can find, there's no RSS feeds or email subscriptions that assist blogs find readership in the blogosphere. However, I do on occasion raise a wedding blog on either my site (Child Protection: Serious Business) or Alexander's Home Schooling Aspergers site (it's okay, no personal information about guests goes into the public realm).

Having children at weddings has created some interesting debate, both amongst our group of friends and the wider opinionated world. I had not considered that some people don't like kids at wedding (we do!). In case I was missing something, I raised an article on whether it's acceptable to have children at weddings or not.

Well blow me down: the article has been nominated for an award.

This is what I wrote in response to the wedding article being nominated:

My greatest award and reward is my partners decision to marry me/us (six kids and me last of all). As I'm sure most people know, I'm getting married in 16 sleeps time. Our wedding is focused on the comfort of our guests, 30% of which are children. We think it's quite acceptable to have children at weddings and judging from article response, so do you.

Somebody has nominated my post, Children at Weddings: Acceptable or Non-Acceptable? for a Hot Stuff award from GNMParents. WOW! I am absolutely chuffed. Thank you to who ever it was.

The award works on a voting system. The post with the most votes wins an, "I'm Hot Stuff" button to wear on their blog site. There are four articles nominated. Head on over to GNMParents, read the posts and cast your vote.

I was also chuffed yesterday to receive a letter from one of our local politicians telling me I was nominated for an International Women's Day Award. WOW. That really blew me away. I was humbled, honoured and disbelieving all at the same time. The letter (pictured) will go into my precious box for safe keeping for ever.

I don't do the work I do for award, recognition or self gain. I work tirelessly for child safety because I want the world to be a better place for our kids. Whereas I see child sexual abuse prevention as the most important thing for me to do, I am thankful that there are other people who work to develop cures for disease, feed the homeless and starving, or protect our environment from total destruction. Without a healthy environment our kids wont have food to eat or parks to play safely in.

The awards though, need to go to the everyday parents who strive to keep their children safe. Parents worldwide are teaching their kids about personal safety, ensuring healthy diets, putting shoes and warm clothes on, celebrating rather than berating and loving, hugging and talking. These are the actions worthy of award.

Thank you to the person who nominated my article for the GNMParents Award and thank you to the person who has already voted for it. Even though I have no idea who you are, you guys are just the best.

To my children and my divine partner: I love you all the way up to the moon, around the sun and stars and all the way back again.

Who's Not Coming to the Wedding: Nan and Pop Oulds (Paul's Grandparents)

Don and Dorothy Oulds (Paul's maternal grandparents): Pop can't come because you mob of reprobates will just be too much for him. Now 90 years old, I think Pop can get away with not attending the wedding in the rainforest. Therefore, there will be no fun poked at him.

Nan died last July. She is sadly missed by Pop (they were married for 67 years) and all the family. Pop remains at Carinya in Atherton and we pop in to visit him whenever we're up that way.

Who's Who in the Wedding Zoo: GARY COOK, M.C (Muckeruppera of Ceremonies)

Well aren't all you old boys from Mt Carmel's going to have a nice reunion. I am sure that our Master of Ceremonies, Gary Cook, has evil things planned to say about you all. He's flat out at the moment putting it all together:

We're not having any specific order, no formalised speeches and no need for microphone instructions about which table goes to eat now. Instead, Cookie is going to be a wandering Minstrel, looking for people to poke fun at. Be warned, he's very, very good at it (and I am scared).

Gary and Paul have been mates since high school days. Why Simone ever got involved with them I'll never know. She is just so lovely. Must have been the boys charm that she was blinded by.

Simone and Gary met at school, married, have stayed married and have three adorable children: Madeline, Margot and Adam. They again live in Townsville. I think the night life in Charters Towers got too much for them.

Just so you also know, anything that Gary says about me is utter rubbish, whereas anything that Gary says about Paul is, of course, gospel. Just another tip: keep your good clothes away from Simone because I believe she loves to wash and shrink silk in the washing machine.

Looking forward to seeing you again Cookie, Simone and childerbeast.

Who's Not Coming to the Wedding: The Parkers from Knoxville, Tennessee.

Some people will lie through their teeth to avoid having to come to our wedding. The Parkers in Tennessee, U.S.A, obviously fall into that lying category.

Embarrassed by having me as a sister-in-law and the possibility of me exposing their child abuse tactics of leaving the four kids out in the cold, Wendy and Michael have concocted a story about having moved back to the States. I've got to take my hat off to Wendy, she went to extraordinary lengths to track down some photos of a house in Knoxville and passed it off to me as the home they were moving too.

So sorry indeed! Most unlikely story of the year, says I. Unfortunately for Wendy, she scammed a U.S email address and sent me some photos of some poor little mites playing outside in the snow and inside without any central heating. Don't be fooled by the happy, smiling faces. The kids have been drugged; with anti freeze! Because Wendy labeled the photos with her own children's names (Jackson, Ben, Dan and Sophie), I'm left with no option other than to make a notification to the child abuse police (they'll all be at the wedding so I don't even have to waste money on a telephone call).

And on a serious note....it's a real shame Wendy, Michael and the kids can't be here with us. However, having four kids myself, I can agree that having to fly anywhere with kids is parent abuse and it's always a thing to add to the "never do' list.

You'll be with us in spirit Wendy, Michael and kids, and, without you all, well, we'll have extra glow sticks and goes on the wet and slide.

PS: What happened to the central heating that kids in cold climates are supposed to be afforded as a basic human right? Wendy would likely say that the kids were dressed ready to go outside in the cold but those poor, sad little faces tell the real story of living under the poverty line, inside, with no electricity.

Why am I Marrying Paul?

I got back from a quick Brisbane trip yesterday afternoon AFTER Paul had already left on one of his business trips. I now have to wait until Wednesday night to kiss him. My inability to delay gratification was worsened by walking into the bedroom to discover a made bed AND a big bunch of flowers from my darling. It was just lovely.

Who's Who in the Wedding Zoo: Jim Bitomski, Camera Manic and Discerning Gentleman

Jim Bitomski is one of Paul's Kleinhard colleagues. An avid photographer, we have been able to con him into capturing the photographic evidence of any debauchery or shenanigans at our wedding. May this be a warning to you all: Any monkey business or things that will shame you WILL BE captured by either Jim or Andy and will definitely be posted onto this website.

A frustrated pro, Jim can be spotted snapping all sorts of beauties to fulfill his need of having an expensive photographic hobby. Will you check out the rare find he snapped up in the beautiful Natalia. A rare Russian bird, is she gorgeous or what?!

Jim, you asked me about flash, formal, night or wide lens wedding photography - just use the lens that will make me look like Natalia please.

Frequently seen making rude gestures at people, Sue attempts to reframe her finger behaviour as Auslan. Only, we know better.........

Sue also uses a floral, old Grandma, walking stick. Soooooooo, I'd better not say too much lest I be wearing the damn stick as my "something used" on the wedding day.

Seriously, Sue has spasmodic dysphonia, a neurological disorder that has savagely attacked several muscle groups; her speech, balance, fine and gross motor skills are affected.

Dayle and Richard have lived with Megan on and off over the years. Megan has been involved with them since they were very little. To save confusion and because it's difficult saying, "These are Megan's ex foster children," we often just refer to them as either one of our kids or step kids. We, and they, know what we mean.

Dayle and Richard are brother and sister. Dayle is currently living with Megan and Paul and Dayle is getting saddled with more and more of the nightly cooking as the wedding approaches and Megan becomes more desperate to get jobs completed. A mean pizza ringer upper, Dayle never orders enough anchovies on Megan's vegetarian.

Photos were taken just last weekend when Richard popped in for a visit and to find out what to wear to the wedding. We told him it was a fancy dress party and he has to dress as Elvis!!!

And this photo: yes, well - Paul, you could get into trouble for trying to kiss Richard. Perhaps Paul should come to the wedding dressed as Michael Jackson??? After all, Paul did turn up to a Village People themed night at a Kleinhardt Christmas Party dressed as the village idiot (below).

This is Andy: the baby of the Martin family (Paul's youngest brother).

Andy is a wonderful young man. A skilled iron artisan, he is making us a special wedding candelabra. Because he lives in Melbourne, we suggested that a candelabra may be too difficult to transport. But, in true stoic spirit, Andy has insisted on designing and hand crafting a candelabra of magnificence.

Onya Rock Martin - you the manboy.

Andy will also be one of two wedding in the rainforest photographers sticking a camera in your face.

An elderly Chinese woman had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole, which she carried across her neck.

One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water.

At the end of the long walks from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.

For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water.

Of course , the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments.

But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it could only do half of what it had been made to do.

After two years of what it perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke to the woman one day by the stream "I am ashamed of myself, because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house."

The old woman smiled, "Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side?"

"That's because I have always known about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you water them."

"For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table.

Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house."

Each of us has our own unique flaw. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding.

You've just got to take each person for what they are and look for the good in them.

SO, to all of our crackpot friends, have a great day and remember to smell the flowers on your side of the path! And darling...I love you.

This is the month we are getting Married:

The wedding ceremony will now occur at the top of the falls in the undercover cafe area or beside the top rapids. The viewing platform at the bottom of the falls is not large enough for everyone to see and hear what is going on.

We are still hoping to have the wedding lunch as a picnic so please do bring a picnic blanket.

There will be time after the ceremony and wedding afternoon tea for people to have a Nana nap if you want. Alternatively, for those who wish to say something (like a speech but not really a speech: more a free for all), the non tired ones will be hanging out at the Cafe eating, drinking, celebrating, and sharing. Paul's best mate, Gary Cook (Townsville), will be in charge of the microphone so give him a hoi if you wish to make a toast, share a story about Paul or Megan, or offer some words to see Paul and Megan off on their journey of love.

After the first main meal of marriage, the BBQ tea, and before the candle ceremony bon fire (weather permitting), a bus will be available to transport people down to see the glow worms. Please remember to throw in some warm clothes - at least a cardigan or coat. Mungalli Falls is at a high altitude and it gets very chilly. Ahhhhh, love in a cold climate.

On Sunday, after breakfast and before you head home, have your own little going away party by either having morning tea at the Out of The Whey cafe (their tea house has a fantastic array of delicious treats made on Mungalli dairy products) or playing a round of golf on Milla Milla Golf Course. Deb Furgerson has already said she's throwing her clubs in the back of the car and I'm sure she'd love to have some wedding guests accompany her.

Please do RSVP to our Wedding in the Rainforest by March 15. No response and we will assume that you cannot come. This means we won't be catering or organising accommodation for you.

The Buck's Party: Laser Tag is in danger of being cancelled. There are insufficient RSVP's to justify hiring the Laser Tag facilities for an entire morning. If you intened coming to the combined Buck's and Hen's Laser stand off then please contact Paul or Megan immediately so that we can lock the Buck's Party in.

The Hen's Party: Greta Galloway has organised a Hen's Party at her place on the Saturday before the wedding. A quiet get together, Megan has concentrated on inviting people who weren't invited to the wedding or cannot make it to the wedding. If you would really like to come though, please contact Greta directly.
