Most of the <a href="http://www.basenz.com/cool-stuff/freeriders/index.html">Base freeride team</a> and parents made it in for drinks and the compulsory finger food. It was great to see so many of our suppliers come along to celebrate with us, along with customers, friends and all the crew that helped build and fitout the store in record time. Also in attendance were some industry luminaries <a href="http://www.wellsboys.com/">Jossi Wells</a>, <a href="http://www.wellsboys.com/">Byron Wells</a> and Robett Hollis, thanks boys. Also great to see the guys from Racers Edge and Cheapskates in also. After a couple of hours pilefring the Free Drinks most of the crew headed to Mint Bar for some free PIzza and more drinks. <a href="http://www.myspace.com/deejayphilippa">Dj Phillipa</a> kicked off around 10.30 and dropped some solid boeats that kept the crowd jumping late into the night.<br />Thanks to everyone who came along.<br />Matt<br /></span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/IMG_3278-735121.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/IMG_3278-734564.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></a>Chillin by the ski rack, Base alumni Kris Mayen, Hamish from <a href="http://www.basenz.com/shop/B18_Rossignol_Skis.html">Rossignol</a> and <span style="font-family:arial;"><a href="http://www.basenz.com/index.html">Base</a></span>'s Chris Walsh.<br /><span style="font-family:arial;"><br /></span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/IMG_3279-758594.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/IMG_3279-758061.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></a><span style="font-family:arial;"><a href="http://www.basenz.com/index.html">Base</a></span> Crew - Lee, Trev & Potter<br /><span style="font-family:arial;"><br /></span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/IMG_3280-783367.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/IMG_3280-782835.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-family:arial;"><br /></span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/IMG_3281-714602.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/IMG_3281-714064.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></a>The Crew - Gemma from Icebreaker is in there, Simon Knight from <a href="http://www.basenz.com/shop/B40_K2_Skis.html">K2</a> & Charlie from racers Edge are chewing the fat, Pro Ski Photographer Camilla Stoddart in there telling someone what's up.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/IMG_3287-728041.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/IMG_3287-727517.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></a>Base Ladies - Jenna, Daisy, Kelly, Fi, Kim & Prue.<br /><span style="font-family:arial;"><br /></span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/IMG_3289-762741.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/IMG_3289-762197.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></a><span style="font-family:arial;"><a href="http://www.basenz.com/cool-stuff/freeriders/index.html">Base freeride team</a></span> grommets <a href="http://www.basenz.com/cool-stuff/freeriders/D4_Beau-James_Wells.html">Beau James Wells</a> & <a href="http://www.basenz.com/cool-stuff/freeriders/D17_Tim_Herbert.html">Tim Herbert</a> raid the finger food.<br /><span style="font-family:arial;"><br /></span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/IMG_3294-755312.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/IMG_3294-754776.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></a><a href="http://www.myspace.com/deejayphilippa">Dj Phillipa</a> dropping the beats at Mint Bar<br /><span style="font-family:arial;"><br /><br /></span><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3863046983705243314-9113529871095445328?l=blog.basenz.com'/></div>BaseNZ.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14281170468893431759noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3863046983705243314.post-11595656315109450682009-07-01T18:14:00.000-07:002009-07-01T18:21:53.302-07:00Snow Falling In Wanaka Right Now<span style="font-family:arial;">Hey Crew, check it out, snow falling in Wanaka right now, looking good for snow for the weekend. Come friday night the report stated "Low<br />cloud, winds at 1600m rising to 40km east, winds at 3000m rising 60km by<br />midday. Rain, with occasional snow flurry above 1800m". So the report<br />didn't look too flash, but we couldn't help it. We had talked it up all<br />summer and had a newbie keen to hit the slopes. It was up to him if we<br />went or not, and he chose to go.<br />So up at 5.30am and leaving town at 6 with rain pouring we once again<br />decided 'If it's open, we'll stay'.<br />Arrived at the Ohakune 8.30 and got our newbie his hire equipment from<br />Station Lodge Rentals (www.stationlodge.co.nz) and up the Mt road we went.<br />It was an awesome sight to get to the base and see the lifts running. A<br />great relief after last weeks walks. So we decided 1 of us would stay and<br />help the new guy at alpine meadows while the rest of us cruized for the<br />first biggie. Up onto the 'Movenpick' lift to hopefully get to the 'High<br />Noon Express', unfortunatly that wasn't running yet, so 'High Flyer' it<br />was. We skated over and jumped on.<br />From the 'High Flyer' there is a few runs down and also the terrain park.<br />So I hit the park for a few small airs, coupled with a few small bails<br />(ok, maybe not so small bails).<br />Later in the day the high noon opened and we rode her to the top. -10<br />degrees or so with wind chill factored in up there. The trails had just<br />been groomed and the runs were awesome. Not bad for a 105cm base on the<br />volcano.<br />The weather began to clear and as blue skies cut through the wind picked<br />up, but that lasted all of 25 minutes around midday, then they backed off<br />leaving us with the remainder of the day bluebird.<br />I must say, later in the day the high noon trails had been taken back to<br />ice and became no good to ride. From the top of 'Parklane' (Turoa's<br />smallest lowest lift) there was only 1 trail available to base and that<br />was continually congested with learners falling head over heels and<br />blocking it up for everyone else.<br /><br />Overall, at 105cm the lower mt is pretty much a write off for runs, except<br />when you need a break in the cafe. The 'High Noon' runs, freshly groomed<br />are ok, but that didn't last too long. So that just leaves mid Mt, and the<br />runs from 'High Flyer' are not bad at all, plenty of snow, a few rocks<br />here and there, then jumping across to the boneyard and as always, is a<br />nice run, very choppy, but great soft and dry snow built up so it's alot<br />of fun.<br /><br />So here we are now with another cold snap covering the Mt and the fields<br />closed for the last 2 days due to snow. The last stake read was yesterday<br />with another 3cm added to the base. If this keeps up as forecast we could<br />see 1.5m pretty soon and hopefully the 2m mark reached within a few weeks.<br /><br />Keep the snow falling!!!<br /><br />~Kingsley~<br /><br /></span><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3863046983705243314-2539910528996860859?l=blog.basenz.com'/></div>BaseNZ.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14281170468893431759noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3863046983705243314.post-21645054949521811062009-06-26T23:16:00.000-07:002009-06-29T21:37:18.252-07:00Treblecone Opening Day is a blinder<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/27062009-706615.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/27062009-706610.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><span style="font-family:arial;">personally it was a day i had been waiting for longer then most, after a knee injury it had been 23mths since my last day at Treblecone, and it didn't disappoint. After busting thru the cloud inversion that has kept wanaka in perpetual darkness the peak loomed up with only some high wispy cloud above tinting the sunshine, it promised to be a cracker of a day. Once on snow you could see the weather lately has been kind to the snowpack with plenty of good coverage across the front basin and the saddle. The more shaded faces held sweet pockets of dry chalky snow, the main trails stayed fairly firm most of the day. Despite both carparks being quite full the slopes seemed comfortably empty and the cafe had no lines. There was some hold ups with eftpos services due to phone line overloading but overall the service was good. The TC beef burger i had for lunch, although not a bargain at $11.50, was super tasty, I'd highly recommend it, tomato sauce and mustard was the way to go.<br />My knee held up well to the days shredding and getting some turns in in the sunshine stamped a grin on my face a mile wide. Great to see a lot of locals getting out for first runs of the winter too.<br />Overall Treblecone Opneing Day 2009 was one of the best i've seen in 10 years.<br /><br />matt<br /></span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/IMG_3258-789916.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/IMG_3258-789378.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-family:arial;"><br /></span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/IMG_3257-756364.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/IMG_3257-755872.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/IMG_3256-730707.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/IMG_3256-730228.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3863046983705243314-2164505494952181106?l=blog.basenz.com'/></div>BaseNZ.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14281170468893431759noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3863046983705243314.post-12254656080012892352009-06-22T19:24:00.000-07:002009-06-22T19:26:08.790-07:00Opening Day report from Turoa<span style="font-family: arial;">Our North Island roving reporter Kingsley has sent thru a report on Turoa's opening day action, read on<br /><br />Hi Matt,<br />As planned 3 mates and myself headed off from Levin at 6am on Saturday to<br />hit Turoa on it's opening day. The travel up to the mt was great, the<br />excitement of that moment when our boards hit the snow once again, man, we<br />couldn't wait....Lucky for me the car has cruise control, so no unexpected<br />expenses from the cops. We eventually made it to Ohakune and had planned<br />to stop for breakfast, but the car wouldn't stop, it just knew we needed<br />to get to the snow asap, so no breakfast in our tums and we were on the Mt<br />Road. We finally made it up to the car park and got all set up and off to<br />the lifts.<br /><br />Unfortunately the lifts were closed as it was blowing a gale and snowing<br />something chronic. We decided to head out onto the Alpine Meadow and<br />figured there were things we could work on. So once we got our feet back<br />after a run or 2 we spotted some hard-nuts trekking up the trail to the<br />upper learners area for a bigger run. We decided to join them. It was a<br />25-30 min trek to get to the top of the Parklane chair. It was seriously<br />blowing up there so we didn't head any further. We strapped in and away we<br />went, our first big(ish) run. But it was over all too soon. So the 2nd<br />trek begun. Before we knew it it was nearly lunch time. Anyways, spent the<br />arvo down the bottom at Alpine meadows practicing riding switch, ollie<br />180's, nosepresses and tail presses.<br />It was a good arvo actually, ended with a hour hanging round right at the<br />bottom on a little slope in which we built a small kicker and spent the<br />last part of the day on that.<br /><br />All in all it was a great day, pity there was no lifts, but hey, trekking<br />the mt, hitting a small kicker, and being forced to spend time doing<br />things we usually wouldn't, it was an experience that had to be had.<br /><br />We left the mt all in high spirits, keen and amped for our next day,<br />hopefully this time some top-to-bottoms will be run.<br /><br />Cheers<br /><br />~Kingsley~<br /><br /></span><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3863046983705243314-1225465608001289235?l=blog.basenz.com'/></div>BaseNZ.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14281170468893431759noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3863046983705243314.post-46176061766027809862009-06-19T20:42:00.001-07:002009-06-19T20:56:46.273-07:00Nike SkateboardingLet's start by going back to about the age of 12. I have forever been into skateboarding and skaters. I've watched them doing tricks when I was younger, I used to shop at the local Skate Shop Full Tilt in my home town of Streetsville, I've dated them (and my bf now is a skater), I knew my first Offspring Tunes from early skate videos, I have underwear that states, "Date a Skater" - and why wouldn't you? - and I skate - okay i learned at the age of 25 and well i don't do any tricks on my board yet but i'm learning to olly at the tender age of 28, and I use my board as a mode of transportation.<br /><br />Well where am i going with this? point being however into skate you are or not, Debacle looks sooo freakin good I can't even describe it to you. To be honest the 30+ short videos on the <a href="http://www.nike.com/nikeskateboarding/v3/#/media/view/13870">Nike Skateboarding website</a> - are all pretty freakin mean. And if <a href="http://blog.basenz.com/2009/01/love-it.html">Danny Kass</a> can be happy with Nike, and now <a href="http://www.gigiruef.com/">Gigi Ruf</a> (with his own signature shoe no less), so can we.<br /><br />check out the trailer for debacle and the Gigi Ruf signature shoe. Nike is not all that bad.<br /><br /><embed src="http://www.nike.com/nikeskateboarding/v3/player.swf?id=13947" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="470" height="375"></embed><br /><br /><br />Peace Amy<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3863046983705243314-4617606176602780986?l=blog.basenz.com'/></div>BaseNZ.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14281170468893431759noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3863046983705243314.post-58788819941524561412009-06-17T02:12:00.000-07:002009-06-17T02:30:53.849-07:00Base goes Arctic<span style="font-family:arial;">Sometimes </span>you put something out there like, hey David can you take some Base stickers with you on your trip and take some photo's, and you think, hey maybe we'll get a pic, maybe not. Then the pics come back, and you go, what the hell??? And so, you go and get the whole story. Read on<br /><br />Hey Matt<br /><br />My brother and I are keen on adventure and wildlife, so every year we try to go somewhere exotic.<br />This year we went (self funded) to East Greenland where we took dogsleds North onto the pack ice inn search of bears.<br /><br />We then left the dogsleds (because they need to be manned by inuits) out on the ice and headed out on foot in search of wildlife (Bears, arctic foxes, tarmigan, seals, walrus, beluga whales, snowy owl etc). We carried all our own gear in pulks/sleds tied to our back packs<br /><br />Spent about a month on the ice. Survived 2 cyclones, temperatures dropping to -40 degrees, 120kph winds, 1.4m snow fall over night and towards the end the melting of the pack ice which very nearly had us stranded<br /><br />Epic adventure and great fun<br /><br />Sadly there is no organization to link as it was just my brother and I. Also we don't do it for any foundation or company. We just go to try and understand our global concerns about different creatures and if we are lucky enough to conclude anything from our results we try to document it in the biological literature<br />Anyway, it was our absolute pleasure taking base to the far North. We love you guys and your gear<br /><br />Thanks again<br /> DAVID<br /><br />Thank you David, and your bro, for living life to the full and inspiring the Base crew. You obviously take on the world in a way that we all aspire to.<br /><br />So remember don't just wander through life, get out there and grab it by the scruff of the neck and take it up the hill for a shred.<br /><br />Peace and Good Beats<br />Matt<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/BASE-camp-707741.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/BASE-camp-707534.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/Dogsledding-with-base-763237.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/Dogsledding-with-base-763030.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/BASE-studying-polar-bears-in-the-arctic-717123.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/BASE-studying-polar-bears-in-the-arctic-716893.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3863046983705243314-5878881994152456141?l=blog.basenz.com'/></div>BaseNZ.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14281170468893431759noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3863046983705243314.post-20599266560967138432009-06-15T23:00:00.000-07:002009-06-15T23:03:41.148-07:00New Snow!!!Yeah, first snow in town for the winter today. There was a nice frosty layer of snow on the ground when Wanaka woke up this morning and then it cleared to a nice sunny day, still cold though which is great for the snow conditions on the mountains.<br /> There really is nothing better then waking up in a mountain town to fresh snow on the ground.<br /><br />Bring on the snow yo.<br />matt<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3863046983705243314-2059926656096713843?l=blog.basenz.com'/></div>BaseNZ.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14281170468893431759noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3863046983705243314.post-54588533093279969632009-06-10T20:53:00.000-07:002009-06-10T20:58:04.690-07:00chimp on a segwayOkay this vid is a bit hokey but makes you wonder about animals and their capacity to think, learn, adapt, etc.<br /><br />You'll notice in the video the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chimpanzee">chimpanzee</a> eventually doesn't need to be prompted to get on, he just wants a piece of the action himself.<br /><br />This clip boggles my mind.<br /><br />Enjoy!<br /><br /><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5pFv8CAniYQ&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5pFv8CAniYQ&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><br /><br />Peace Amy<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3863046983705243314-5458853309327996963?l=blog.basenz.com'/></div>BaseNZ.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14281170468893431759noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3863046983705243314.post-60640927087355805582009-06-08T15:35:00.000-07:002009-06-08T15:45:36.012-07:00BaseNZ online and on tvBasenz.com<br /><br />we've been doing our own thing, and we've been doing our own version of the collaboration. Lots of new gear has been turning up and we are expecting to see <a href="http://www.basenz.com/shop/B40_K2_Skis.html">K2 Skis</a>, <a href="http://www.basenz.com/shop/B1_K2_Snowboards.html">K2 snowboards</a> and <a href="http://www.basenz.com/shop/B13_Ride_Snowboards.html">Ride Snowboards</a> all arrive tomorrow, yeah. I must say i'm pretty excited to see the new K2 boards, i'm so ready to go snowboarding.<br /> But that's not what i'm here to tell you about, i'm going to fill you in on an excellent documentary i watched online over the weekend. It's called <a href="http://www.opensourcecinema.org/project/rip-remix-manifesto">Rip: A Remix Manifesto</a> and it's a look at the world of copyright and how it affects music film and television. I found it to be very revealing, it points out some very serious flaws with our current copyright laws and shows how indebted we are to all the popular culture that has come before us to create what we have today. I find it extrodinary that multinational companies can copyright music or images that they or those that produced the work copied from older works themselves. The great thing about this film though is how it is being distributed, it is in selected cinema's but is also available to watch online at http://www.opensourcecinema.org/ chapter by chapter, you are also encouraged to download the film yourself and remix it, adding your own images or music, then to upload your work to http://www.opensourcecinema.org/ so it can then be cut back up together to make a new version 2.0 of <a href="http://www.opensourcecinema.org/project/rip-remix-manifesto">Rip: A Remix Manifesto</a><br />The Documentary centers around one of my favourite artists <a href="http://www.myspace.com/girltalk">Girltalk</a>. <a href="http://www.myspace.com/girltalk">Girltalk</a> is a mashup artist, someone who takes small parts of songs and tweaks and layers them creating new music in the process. It would have been good to see some other mash up artisits like <a href="http://www.myspace.com/2manydjs">2ManyDj's</a> get in there, but this is mainly a US based film, though there is a great section about Baile Funk in Brazil which is awesome.<br /> The first chapter is posted here, i recommend checking out the whole thing.<br /><br />peace and good beats<br /><br /><img style="visibility:hidden;width:0px;height:0px;" border="0" width="0" height="0" src="http://counters.gigya.com/wildfire/IMP/CXNID=2000002.0NXC/bT*xJmx*PTEyNDQ*MzkxNzM5MDMmcHQ9MTI*NDQzOTE3Njc1NCZwPTE5ODY4MSZkPTZqYXp1bjhjdjQmZz*yJnQ9Jm89NTc5ZDQyMTgyMTI4NDc5OWEyZWIyNzQ3MDcwODY4MWImb2Y9MA==.gif" /><object name="kaltura_player_1244439171" id="kaltura_player_1244439171" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allownetworking="all" allowfullscreen="true" height="332" width="400" data="http://www.kaltura.com/index.php/kwidget/wid/m5s2wbn0lk/uiconf_id/52100"><br /> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><br /> <param name="allowNetworking" value="all"><br /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><br /> <param name="bgcolor" value="#000000"><br /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.kaltura.com/index.php/kwidget/wid/m5s2wbn0lk/uiconf_id/52100"><br /> <param name="flashVars" value="" pd_="<xml"> <pd_original_url>http://dev.osc.clients.raincitydev.com/shanghai-record-110-seconds</pd_original_url></xml>"/><br /> <param name="wmode" value="opaque"><br /> <a href="http://corp.kaltura.com">video platform</a><br /> <a href="http://corp.kaltura.com/technology/video_management">video management</a><br /> <a href="http://corp.kaltura.com/solutions/overview">video solutions</a><br /> <a href="http://corp.kaltura.com/technology/video_player">free video player</a><br /></object><br /><br /><br /></span><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3863046983705243314-5280302317451966282?l=blog.basenz.com'/></div>BaseNZ.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14281170468893431759noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3863046983705243314.post-41546766420135845212009-05-28T19:23:00.000-07:002009-05-28T19:33:51.886-07:00Base2 Takes Shape<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/Base2-Temp2-796789.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/Base2-Temp2-796783.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/Base2-temp1-772853.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/Base2-temp1-772848.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/Base2-BUild-front-738051.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/Base2-BUild-front-738045.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/Base2-Build2-787231.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/Base2-Build2-787225.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-family:arial;">For those that haven't heard, Base is expanding operations in Wanaka. After well and truly growing out of our little hardware room at our corner store we are opening a new Hardware specific store down the street at 12 Helwick st. This new space is under construction now as you can see in the pics. We do have a temporary space open right now 2 doors up at 16 Helwick with a ton of good stuff in there, we've got 2010 <a href="http://www.basenz.com/shop/B39_Burton_Snowboards.html">Burton snowboards</a> in store now, 2010 <a href="http://www.basenz.com/shop/B18_Rossignol_Skis.html">Rossignol skis</a> and boards turned up this week too, so there's plenty of good stuff to check out already. You can see in the pics the temporory store is well loaded with goodies.<br />This new store will be called Base 2, still all the good gear and great service you have come to expect from Base jsut with a bit more room to move around. We can't wait for Base 2 to open it's doors, which we're expecting to do June 18th.<br /><br />Peace and good beats<br />Matt<br /><br /><br /></span><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3863046983705243314-4154676642013584521?l=blog.basenz.com'/></div>BaseNZ.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14281170468893431759noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3863046983705243314.post-87019622274837783992009-05-18T22:26:00.000-07:002009-05-18T22:42:45.428-07:00Here Comes the SNOW!!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/Ranges-190509-726128.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/Ranges-190509-726126.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/Ranges-long-772768.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/Ranges-long-772766.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/Mt-Roy-190509-731745.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/Mt-Roy-190509-731743.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/TC-and-ranges-190509-703440.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/TC-and-ranges-190509-703437.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/Lake-WKA-190509-770761.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/Lake-WKA-190509-770756.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-family:arial;">Ah, the fabled white gold has been falling hard down Wanaka way over the last few days. De La Soul proved that practice makes perfect on Wednesday night. You could tell these guys had rocked many a crowd in their time and they wasted no time getting the capacity Lake Wanaka Centre crowd into a frenzy. Kicking off the set with classic tracks from their first 2 albums De La Soul showed their skills on mic with Maceo keeping tight on the decks. Dropping great hits like A Rolling Skating Jam Named Saturdays, Ring Ring Ring, Potholes in my Lawn, me myself and i and plenty of others, it was great to see they were happy to play crowd favorites and didn't push new tracks. Given that this tour was to celebrate 20 years since they released their first album 3 ft High and Rising they were there to please.<br /> After a short break just before midnight, De La came back out for an encore which included pulling 25 girls from the crowd up on stage with them for the last 2 tracks, then, they were gone and the girls were all left on the stage as the beats wound down.<br /> This was definitely the best show i've seen in Wanaka, and one of the best hip hop shows i've seen ever. Big props to Revolver for bringing De La Soul to Wanaka, word on the street is thet they'll be bringing more big acts to play in Wanaka if the De La show was a success( it was) so bring it on i say.<br /> I'll post some photo's and video of the show over the weekend, once i get them off my phone. If you ahve any pics or video you'd like to share with the world let me know and i'll post em on the blog and add them to our galleries.<br /><br />Peace and Good Beats<br />Matt<br /></span><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3863046983705243314-952018294771281906?l=blog.basenz.com'/></div>BaseNZ.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14281170468893431759noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3863046983705243314.post-8855700446970790262009-05-06T20:39:00.000-07:002009-05-06T20:54:53.455-07:00Snoop Dogg Skullcandy Skullcrusher Coming In JUNE!!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/skullcrushersnoop_black-728402.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/skullcrushersnoop_black-728399.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/snoop-dogg-780780.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 166px; height: 400px;" src="http://blog.basenz.com/uploaded_images/snoop-dogg-780778.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-family:arial;">That's right people they'll be here soon, and <a href="http://www.basenz.com/index.html">www.BaseNZ.com</a> is the exclusive online retailer of the <a href="http://www.basenz.com/shop/P1009_Skullcandy_Skullcrusher_Snoop_Dogg_Signature_Headphones.html">Skullcandy Skullcrusher Snoop Dogg Signature Headphones</a>. <a href="http://www.basenz.com/shop/B26_Skullcandy.html">Skullcandy</a> have collaborated with Snoop D-O-Double G to bring you </span>the only headphones on which Snoop's tracks must be experienced. Last year there were a number of offensive ads, according to this article courtesy of the ODT http://www.odt.co.nz/news/national/54056/the-ads-offended-nzers-most<br /><br /><div class="byline"> Mon, 4 May 2009<div class="node-terms"><a href="http://www.odt.co.nz/news/national">News: National</a></div> </div> <!-- google_ad_section_start --> <!--paging_filter--> <p> Advertisements poking fun at God, using sex to sell and promoting racist stereotypes were acceptable in 2008. Yeah, right. </p> <p> A religion-related Tui beer billboard was the most complained about ad in 2008, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) annual report said. </p> <p> "Let's take a moment this Christmas to think about Christ...Yeah Right -- Tui" went to No 1 on the ASA 2008 hate list, with 86 complaints, saying it was offensive to Christians, as was the alcohol-religion link. </p> <p> Tui also brewed up a fight with "Sure, I've got ten minutes to talk about Jehovah" billboard, ninth on the complaints top 10. </p> <p> Dominion Breweries withdrew the Christmas ad, after howls of outrage. The "Jehovah" ad was not regarded by the ASA as likely to cause serious or widespread offence. </p> <p> Tui bumped Hell Pizza from No 1, after the fast food company cooked up the most complained-about ads in 2006 and 2007. </p> <p> Hell Pizza, which in late 2007 split from advertising agency Cinderella, only managed No 10 in 2008, with its "$25 Hot as Hell" direct mail ad. </p> <p> That ad promised a Thai massage with one of its pizzas, if the offer was redeemed in Thailand on the day of purchase. </p> <p> The ad showed a photo of a young Thai woman in high heels and a bikini, which 16 complainants said it invoked prostitution and was a racial slur to Thais. </p> <p> Racial slurs also featured in the second most complained about ad of 2008, with 73 moved to complain about a Skins sportswear ad. </p> <p> The ASA complaints board upheld those complains, saying the ad would cause offence with its racial stereotype that African-Americans were "warriors" with" killer mentality". </p> <p> Hell Pizza's 2006 "Lust Pizza" random mail out remained the most controversial ad in ASA history. It attracted a record 685 complaints after condoms were sent to random letterboxes. </p> <p> The complaints were upheld. </p> <p> In 2008, there were 1246 complaints about 703 different advertisements, up on 1160 and 668 in 2007. Of those, 314 were found to have substance, 92 were upheld, 71 settled, and 151 not upheld. </p> <p> Television ads attracted the highest number of complaints (35 percent of the total), with misleading advertisements the most complained about (38 percent). </p> <p> <b>The 10 most complained about ads of 2008</b> </p> <p> 1. Tui Beer, billboard. "Let's take a moment this Christmas to think about Christ...Yeah Right -- Tui". (86 complaints). Settled, when withdrawn by advertiser. </p> <p> 2. Brandex Adventure Sports Ltd, television. Skins sportswear, touting the physicality of African-American athletes, saying they have a "warrior" mentality and "killer instinct". (73). Upheld, racial stereotyping. </p> <p> 3. Alcohol Advisory Council of New Zealand, television. A drinking "Uncle Mark" grabs a young boy, swinging him into furniture on an "aeroplane ride". (68). Settled, when advertiser and broadcasters resolved to show it only after 8.30pm. </p> <p> 4. New Zealand First, direct mail advertisement. A NZ First flyer said an anti-John Key site had been set up in the name of the ad's recipient. (43). Not upheld. </p> <p> 5. Advanced Medical Institute, billboard. "Want long-lasting Sex?", ad for nasal medication to battle premature ejaculation. (38). Upheld, did not meet due sense of social responsibility. </p> <p> 6. Sky Television, billboard. An ad for a Sky television programme stated, "all business considered, even from Jews". (27). Settled, advertisement removed and an apology published. </p> <p> 7. Beds R Us, television. A couple searching for the perfect bed are shown kissing passionately, then the female, clad in underwear, straddles the male. (23). Settled, ad replaced after complaints that sex was being used to sell. </p> <p> 8. Fonterra, television. In an Anchor trim milk ad, a child tells his mother "you're fat", then adds, "yeah mum, you're not fat. Nana's fat". (18). Not upheld, light-hearted and unlikely to cause offence. </p> <p> 9. Tui Beer, billboard. "Sure, I've got ten minutes to talk about Jehovah". (16). No grounds to proceed, did not meet the threshold to cause serious offence. </p> <p> 10. Hell Pizza, direct mail. `$25 Hot as Hell" ad showed a photo of a Thai woman in high heels and a bikini, promising a Thai massage, if the offer was redeemed in Thailand on the day of purchase. (15). No grounds to proceed, as it did not meet the threshold to breach the Advertising Codes. </p><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3863046983705243314-1480120328797401655?l=blog.basenz.com'/></div>BaseNZ.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14281170468893431759noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3863046983705243314.post-91819585595095560162009-04-30T22:03:00.000-07:002009-04-30T22:05:47.248-07:00Some things can't be taught<span style="font-family: arial;">Sometimes you see</span> things that almost defy the boundaries of physics and human skill, this is one such example. I hail from Toronto, and while I do love my new digs here in Wanaka (what's not to like?), I love my big city Toronto, my hometown Mississauga, and the wee little village Streetsville where I grew up!<br /><br />Toronto (let this just encompass Mississauga and Streetsville at this point for arguements sake), is an amazing city. The most multi culturally diverse city in the world now - surpassing London or New York - and offering great food, art, culture, fashion and of course music.<br /><br />Toronto not only gets the biggest acts but also has been a hot spot for great music - I mean they even discuss the great things happening in the Toronto music scene on the MTV series The City.<br /><br />Anyway, here is a little gem, The North. Check it out yourself, and you'll get what I'm talking about.<br /><br />peace amy<br /><br /><embed src="http://c.brightcove.com/services/viewer/federated_f9/1902560528?isVid=1&publisherID=1578131970" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" flashvars="playerID=1902560528&autoStart=false&domain=embed&videoID=20271868001" base="http://admin.brightcove.com" name="flashObj" seamlesstabbing="false" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" swliveconnect="true" wmode="transparent" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash" width="486" height="322"></embed><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3863046983705243314-4345088574129774917?l=blog.basenz.com'/></div>BaseNZ.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14281170468893431759noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3863046983705243314.post-32610909654788159812009-04-27T15:54:00.000-07:002009-04-27T16:11:23.363-07:0015% Off Deal Almost over!<span style="font-family: arial;">Hey Crew,<br />Just a quick reminder that you have 2 more days to take advantage of our crazy 2010 <a href="http://www.basenz.com/shop/C23_Snow_Skis.html">Ski</a> & <a href="http://www.basenz.com/shop/C1_Snowboards.html">Snowboard</a> Pre Order deal. They have just released a new film clip for their 2nd single autumn story, and i think it's pretty awesome, done in chalk animation, it took 6 months to produce. I've added the clip for their first single - same suburb, different park as well.<br /><br />If you like what you hear go to http://www.myspace.com/firekites you can hear more and follow the links to buy the album. If you're in NZ and want to buy one i have copies for $25 just pop me an email matt@basenz.com and i'll sort you out.<br />Enjoy<br />Matt<br /><br /><br /><object height="340" width="560"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/6gvOVWKKxmo&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x2b405b&color2=0x6b8ab6"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/6gvOVWKKxmo&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x2b405b&color2=0x6b8ab6" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="340" width="560"></embed></object><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><object height="340" width="560"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/7ftZgIhKUec&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x2b405b&color2=0x6b8ab6"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/7ftZgIhKUec&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x2b405b&color2=0x6b8ab6" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="340" width="560"></embed></object><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3863046983705243314-3980128768550236648?l=blog.basenz.com'/></div>BaseNZ.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14281170468893431759noreply@blogger.com0
