After learning more is when I jumped into working in the fight against child sexual exploitation. I highly recommend attending.

I was recently contacted by Eric and informed that on June 1st he will begin a walk in chains around some of the most densely populated countries. This reminds me of what Walter Bruggemann articulates in his book Prophetic Imagination "that grief and mourning, that crying in pathos, is the ultimate form of criticism." This act signals symbolizes the grief that is felt and hopefully through articulating that grief newness and change will come.

Shelter: Grace Haven House for Survivors of CSEC

As many of us within the anti-trafficking movement recognize, shelter is one of our greatest needs. In San Diego we especially need shelter for victims of CSEC, commercial sexual exploitation of children. On February 13th the Today Show shared about the work of the Grace Haven House, a faith based organization that provides shelter and programs for CSEC victims that are desperately needed. Many of you might be familiar with Theresa Flores, survivor and author of The Sacred Bath, who is involved in the shelter as their director of development. As the internet has become more and more a part of the everyday in the U.S. and the global north, questions have arisen: How has the internet used as a tool for violence, for the trafficking and sexual exploitation of people? How has it used as a tool for social change to counter violence? In 2008 the End Internet Trafficking Coalition formed to address the increasing usages of services on the web to exploit people through labor and sex violence. In an effort to further the conversations that began with a national call through emails to collaborate, the coalition recorded an online presentation on the issue. February 20-21, 2009, in a conference meeting titled, "Global Disconnects: The Internet & Human Trafficking" the coalition and collaborators will be meeting at UC Berkeley to address the complexities of human trafficking and the technoscapes of the web, as well as the prospects for countering human trafficking through theory and practice.

Tonight on NBC's Law and Order there will be a special issue featuring child slavery in New York. Free the slaves has partnered with NBC to raise awareness and bring this message into the center of current issues. "Two detectives on the show are investigating a double murder when they uncover and a child slave trade ring between Haiti and New York". It will air this evening at 10/9 central.
