At 6 a.m., we received word that I'd been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009.

To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who've been honored by this prize -- men and women who've inspired me and inspired the entire world through their courageous pursuit of peace.

But I also know that throughout history the Nobel Peace Prize has not just been used to honor specific achievement; it's also been used as a means to give momentum to a set of causes.

That is why I've said that I will accept this award as a call to action, a call for all nations and all peoples to confront the common challenges of the 21st century. These challenges won't all be met during my presidency, or even my lifetime. But I know these challenges can be met so long as it's recognized that they will not be met by one person or one nation alone.

This award -- and the call to action that comes with it -- does not belong simply to me or my administration; it belongs to all people around the world who have fought for justice and for peace. And most of all, it belongs to you, the men and women of America, who have dared to hope and have worked so hard to make our world a little better.

So today we humbly recommit to the important work that we've begun together. I'm grateful that you've stood with me thus far, and I'm honored to continue our vital work in the years to come.

Thank you,

President Barack Obama

Just sayin.....

And She Does It Again...

I was planning on posting about my big success yesterday. Unfortunately, something happened this morning that blew that out of the water...

Two years ago, out of the blue, Rooster started ignoring me. It's obviously her way of communicating. I had no clue what was wrong. She even ignored emails. When I get ignored, I get hurt and upset. I don't stop until I get down right nasty. We didn't talk for over 6 months. We wouldn't have then except that I found out her daughter was pregnant and called her to congratulate her. We managed to get somewhat halfway back to normal and I thought especially close when Ashlie lost her baby.

When she was in the Philippines the first time, it was new and we talked a lot. The second time was completely different. She didn't talk to any of us very much. Including her husband and daughter. Since she's been back she's been different. For the past month or two, she doesn't call me. I had to call her. Making an extremely long story short, I'd had enough of the ignoring and wanted to know what I'd done to deserve it. I called before she left for work this morning and told her to please call me back and I meant it.

Well she did. I received a tongue lashing the likes I've never heard in my life. The way she feels about me is all my fault. I've done everything wrong. All my job problems, life problems, David problems, all my relationships are all because I'm a negative person and have to have everything my way. I'm the most negative person she's ever met and she wants to surround herself with positive things and I just don't seem to meet her standards. We exchanged words back and forth and eventually when I saw I was just wasting my good intentions, I told her when I was good enough to be let into her life then let me know. I hung up. I'm in shock.

Do I deserve this? Hell no. Did I deserve it the last time? Hell no. Am I taking it personally? Again...hell no. I get it. We are all under some stress or another. We all have problems. Do we occasionally snap at one another because of it? Maybe.

Three weeks ago, I was in tears on the phone with her and telling her how much I needed my best friend now. She's called me once since then. To come over and have ME get HER pictures up on Craigslist to sell her daughter's camper. I hugged her and told her how much I appreciated her coming over. She's called me one time since and that was for a brief moody snappy talk.

Some of the things she said indicated to me some inferiority and jealousy. She's the type that cannot be wrong. I've challenged her on a couple of things lately and she can't deal with it. I've never done it before.

Of all the stupid idiotic things to break the bank. Effing flood insurance. She's an expert. Me, who has flooded twice from that damn creek, knows nothing. HER homeowner's policy covers floods. Period. It covered when there was too much rain and it LEAKED into her basement. I've spoken to everyone I can think of, half of Atlanta just went through this, it was on CNN...

THE ONLY TIME YOUR HOMEOWNER'S INSURANCE COVERS FLOODS IS IF YOU HAVE A SEPARATE POLICY. PERIOD. But not Rooster's. She won't let it go.

Straw that broke the camel's back.

I'm hurt. I'm mad. I won't be the one calling this time. This may not pass. I've been a wonderful friend to her. If she can do this to me when I'm at one of the lowest points in my life?

Then it's obvious. It's all about her. What goes around will come back and kick you in the ass.

No Visitors Under 18 Allowed...

Our local hospitals are starting a new policy tomorrow, October 1st.

NO VISITORS UNDER 18 ALLOWED.

The only exceptions are the Emergency Room and if you are visiting a dying relative.

My first thought was of enforcement and the hell it's going to bring on Public Safety....David. I talked to him last night and it sounds like it's going to be statewide. He's working at a smaller 50 bed hospital now, but had he been still working up here...1000 bed....it would have been worse.

Most of the hospitals in our state have gone to non-smoking campuses. I don't agree, and we have people smoking on the side of the road because of it, but regardless, the Public Safety officers are having to enforce the policy. There's not enough of them to maintain hospital security and the smoking. Which would you prefer as a patient or visitor? Your safety or a person smoking behind a tree 200 yards away? They have to respond to every call, and there are many. The first time there is a stolen baby or a fire alarm or a loon in the Emergency Room and an officer is not available because he is patrolling for hiding smokers...you can imagine.

Sorry, I got off on the beaten path here. Now, add the fact that they are going to have to deal with hundreds of angry people who can't take their kids into the hospital? I remember a time when I was young. You couldn't even go there unless you were over 12. Period. They also have Junior Volunteers. Are they suppose to quit?

Yes, this is due to H1N1 and I agree with it and think it's a good policy. I just hope all the health care workers will aid their local hospital's Public Safety in enforcing this policy.

One more thing. New York State is making it mandatory for flu shots...on the news. Protesters are angry. Our local NC hospitals, on their own, are making it mandatory also. Shots or job? You have a choice. David's been told.

Is it a pandemic? Who knows? Is it better to have your rights protected or have someone die under your care? Habitat For Humanity. I thank God every night that I have a roof over my head...among other things. We argue that health care is not a right, but dammit, everyone needs to be able to lay their head down at night SOMEWHERE and feel safe.

And then I opened an email and read this:

DOING SOMETHING GREAT

When was the last time you were challenged to do something really... well... great?

President Abraham Lincoln helped me to understand that there is a bit of greatness within all of us. It is said that he often slipped out of the White House on Wednesday evenings to listen to the sermons of Dr. Phineas Gurley at New York Avenue Presbyterian Church.

He generally preferred to come and go unnoticed, so when Dr. Gurley knew the president was coming, he left his study door open. On one of those occasions, the president quietly entered through a side door of the church, took his seat in the minister's study, located just off the sanctuary, and propped the door open just wide enough to hear the preacher.

During the walk home one Wednesday evening, an aide asked Mr. Lincoln his appraisal of the sermon. The president thoughtfully replied, "The content was excellent... he delivered with
eloquence... he had put work into the message.."

"Then you thought it was an excellent sermon?" questioned the aide.

"No," Lincoln answered.

"But you said that the content was excellent, it was delivered with eloquence and it showed much work," the aide pressed.

"That's true," Lincoln said. "But Dr. Gurley forgot the most important ingredient. He forgot to ask us to do something great."

There is nothing wrong with average lives and average accomplishments. Most of the good of the world is built on the accumulated efforts of everyday people. But, as Lincoln seemed to know, a life should strive for some greatness.

Are you part of a relationship that, if given more effort, could be outstanding? Or do you volunteer for an organization which is truly doing something excellent? Have you joined a cause that is attempting something great? Or have you ever said to yourself concerning a beautiful dream, "I could never do that," while knowing that if you were to attempt it and succeed, you just might accomplish something significant?

If Abraham Lincoln is right, then every life should strive to reach a little further today than it did yesterday, for there is some greatness in each of us.

-- Steve Goodier

We ALL Could Use A Good Laugh!

Mental P Mama is having a book give away and I'll quote:

"How long has it been since you had a laugh that made you cry?"

"How long has it been since you had a stomach-gripping guffaw?"

Personally? Too damn long and well overdue. From the sounds on Facebook from friends, we all could use a good laugh. If Mama says it's funny, you can believe her. Right now, I'm sure she desperately needed one. Her two little babies just left for college and she's missing them terribly. We're all going through one thing or another and it's our unspoken blogger oath to try and keep each other sane!

I know I've been descending into looniness with my boy living down South. I'm reading about vampires and werewolves, talking to and NAMING the birds on my deck and trying not to disturb them. Worrying daily about job hunting and money problems. Watching too many weird shows on TV. I'm even talking to myself like I'm another person. Me AND Debbie.

Well, me and Debbie would love for you to just go over right now, not later, and visit the one and only MPM!! Nothing is exciting me and it feels more like a way of life than a passing phase. I'm turning into a recluse. I go to Facebook, but am not reading blogs, not writing, not caring, etc. I'm waiting to snap out of it. Slapping myself up side the head and telling myself to get with it, get over it. Trying to keep busy. Nada.

The summer was a flat out bust at the lake. Oh, I had a few good weekends with David. I love seeing him and we enjoy it, but as far as Rooster? We just couldn't get it together. She's changed and I don't know why. We're still working on it. She went off her hormones a couple years ago and has been changing since then. Whatever....My brother and Sharon came up once. Sharon came up one other time and we had a great time.

I've got my jet ski up for sale. I'll still have the other one to putter around on. It's not worth the monthly payment and insurance for a FEW times on the lake a year.

When I was married, we were camping fanatics and I guess I'm trying to relive that and it's not going to happen. It's just time to start facing facts here. David is out on his own and I need to change my entire way of living.

Yes, I've been cooped up in the house since March. I've been out doing yard work, which I don't mind. I know I need to get out and volunteer, join something. I KNOW all the things I need to do. It's the actual action that is eluding me. That kick in the ass to get me going.

I want an exciting job. Something I really like doing. Not just sitting at a desk. In all honesty, I really enjoyed that damn jail job. Just needed two different co-workers. I'll find it eventually. I tried today to sign up to volunteer to serve food at the Salvation Army and the damn website froze. WTH? I want to volunteer at Crisis Control Ministries too.

I've looked at every Craigslist post for a dog, every animal shelter photo. I want a dog. How long have I been talking about this? The perfect dog does not exist Debbie. Seriously, I look daily. If I sell the jet ski, I can afford it. The dog will need walks. Debbie needs to walk. Win. Win.

Then when I talk out loud, it will be to the dog and not myself. I'm annoying me. I'm getting on my nerves.

And TV is really pissing me off. Politics, reruns, commercials....all of it. I can't even find a Netflix movie to watch online that I like. Nothing is exciting. Oh, wait, I did drool over an old Kevin Costner movie the other night. God, what I would give.....

Okay, well I did it. I posted. I know....boring.

The Monkey Is Pissed...

Because he's been completely ignored for almost a month!

I am so thankful for everything I have and God's got my back...

But....

Dropped the jet ski trailer on my foot and broke my toe two weeks ago the ONE time I have been to the lake this summer. Hobbling around...

Still no job, but after FOUR months and an appeal I finally got unemployment. I will survive.

Still leery about spending ANY money so I'm driving around with no A/C in my truck. Windows work great though.

I'm having to mow back yard twice a week because of the excess water, BUT I have a rider and everyone is jealous it's so green. Well, they haven't said so, but I'm sure they are.

The ONE time I went to the lake, had to pay half of the annual rental.

Finally called and added the camper to my insurance this morning and also jet ski coverage. This should have been done last year. Someone might steal the jet ski's to show me that they are supposed to be moved more often and used more than the ONE time I've been to the lake.

Oh, I'm wrong. David and his friend went up one day. The weekend he told me had to work. They took BOTH ski's out. My new one without my permission. We're still going to have a talk about this later. I found this out and was angry the ONE weekend I went down there. Actually, my brother's girl friend went down with me and two friend's of David's. David had "attitude" the whole 24 hours he was there because he was tired. They left on Saturday after the guys got pissed because I wouldn't let them take both jet ski's out alone without David.

And to top it all. David is moving out this weekend to my ex's girlfriend's rental house. I'm very appreciative of this because he's getting a good deal and he'll be able to leave the place he's staying at with friends. Of course, Rooster is back and mentioned going to the lake. I want to go. I also want to be here when he hauls his bed out the door for the first time in his life.

I ALSO wanted to be on the other end when he puts his bed up somewhere else for the first time. BUT, he has told me no, because he's not sure who all is going to be there. Meaning his Dad and GF. His Dad and I have been apart for almost 9 years. I have no problem with it. Why does everyone else? She's met his FIRST wife, why not the SECOND? They are fixing it up really nice for him. Her daughter just moved out of it and got married and lives close by. They live close by to David. I live an hour and a half away. Mama Bear is sharpening her claws here. I have to keep my mouth shut for this momentous occasion and enjoy the moment with David. His first place. I'm excited for him. Seriously, I am. I just wish it was about an hour closer!

But....he did not join the Air Force. He is not in Korea or BF Egypt. I am thankful, truly thankful.

And this goes round and round in my head.....with background music..."I'll Be There"

UK Lottery Winner!

National Lottery Promo Office
Tel; +44-701-115-1309
Fax: +44-7006-062-478
Ref LSUK/2031/8161/05

Dear Winner,

We are pleased to inform you of the final announcement of Our On-line
Promo Programme held on wednesday 1st of April 2009.The draw was done
electronically with several email addresses provided to this office by
webmail providers to enhance the utilization of the internet.Your email
address attached to Reference Number UK/2031/8161/05 was picked as one
of the ten winning email addresses. There are none. That's why I haven't been blogging, reading, nadda, zip.

Little advice? If you have a job...keep it. There are none out there.

We had quite a storm yesterday. I've been involved in the process of what there plans are for my yard and across the street. They seem to feel if they purchase the vacant lot across the street where this flood zone goes, it will make it flow faster. I can't seem to convince them it's not THERE, the problem is too much water on THIS side trying to make it through the little culvert. They are looking at my side AFTER that. Doing work on personal property is the LAST thing they want to do. You can see the incoming from the right. Look at the left:

A culvert from the left and one coming down the middle. Two into one which merges with the other photo. The creek in this picture has eroded what was a basic 12" stream into a 4 foot deep gorge. And can I mow? Hell no. I'm trying to build a berm back there to stop water from my neighbors yard (railroad ties) We are going to end up digging a effin trench back there for the THIRD run off into the creek. The shed? This was the only dry spot in my yard when I got it.
Now it may have to be moved to the FRONT yard. Geesh. And to top it off, see the NEWLY landscaped red dirt and straw? Yes, he created even more run off. Don't disturb the ground people!! Please!

I'm becoming an expert. I am contacting the NC Soil & Environmental Crap because I heard they help people build rain gardens and wetland gardens. I think I have the perfect spot. The way I heard it, the story went like this:

Thanksgiving Day was near. The first grade teacher gave her class a fun assignment -- to draw a picture of something for which they were thankful.

Most of the class might be considered economically disadvantaged, but still many would celebrate the holiday with turkey and other traditional goodies of the season. These, the teacher thought, would be the subjects of most of her student's art. And they were.

But Douglas made a different kind of picture. Douglas was a different kind of boy. He was the teacher's true child of misery, frail and unhappy. As other children played at recess, Douglas was likely to stand close by her side. One could only guess at the pain Douglas felt
behind those sad eyes.

Yes, his picture was different. When asked to draw a picture of something for which he was thankful, he drew a hand. Nothing else. Just an empty hand.

His abstract image captured the imagination of his peers. Whose hand could it be? One child guessed it was the hand of a farmer, because farmers raise turkeys. Another suggested a police officer, because the police protect and care for people. Still others guessed it was the hand of God, for God feeds us. And so the discussion went -- until the teacher almost forgot the young artist himself.

When the children had gone on to other assignments, she paused at Douglas' desk, bent down, and asked him whose hand it was. The little boy looked away and murmured, "It's yours, teacher."

She recalled the times she had taken his hand and walked with him here or there, as she had the other students. How often had she said, "Take my hand, Douglas, we'll go outside." Or, "Let me show you how to hold your pencil." Or, "Let's do this together." Douglas was most thankful
for his teacher's hand.

Brushing aside a tear, she went on with her work.

The story speaks of more than thankfulness. It says something about teachers teaching and parents parenting and friends showing friendship, and how much it means to the Douglases of the world. They might not always say thanks. But they'll remember the hand that reaches out.

-- Steve Goodier

I always hesitate to ask when I need a hand. I can do it myself. My Mom was that way because she had to be. Eventually people quit asking because they think you are okay without one. That is not always the case. Keep asking. Anyone of your friends or family need a hand? Keep asking.

Blase...

Bored. Okay, this year I did NEED him to help me out with a few things as long as he was here. I needed the creek weed eated and a part of the gutter cleaned out. That's it. Oh and push the wheelbarrow I had just loaded full of dirt, out to the back 40. While we were in the garage discussing strategy, he asked me to go upstairs and stay for a minute. I did. He said "Keep your eyes closed". I did. (I had asked him the night before where my shells were from the beach. He said he didn't really get me any) The sweetie brings this up and tells me to open my eyes! Yes, he brought me the beach! I love it. Period. He did tell me not to try and walk on it though...yes, he knows his Mom!

Okay, you know I'm addicted to Farm Town. Knowing I would get "the look" from David. The one that says "I worry about you, Mom", I attempted to show him Farm Town on Saturday evening and explain it all and knowing how ridiculous it sounded...harvesting and planting corn, having animals and trees. He graciously stood there and listened like a good boy, nodding and trying to understand, trying not to laugh. I finished. Yes, I got it...the look. BUT, early Sunday morning... my Mother's Day card was sitting by the coffee pot and look! Closest thing to farming he could find. I know this means he waited until the last minute to get the card, but who cares?

We were hot, dirty & hungry after that <del>little bit</del> full afternoon of yard work so we decided to do Applebee's takeout. I had me some delicious riblets and David had steak. Delicious. He said he was going to lay down for a minute, so I took that opportunity to take my nap. I didn't want to miss out on a smidgen of time with him.

Then came the evening...time to go back.
