I tried driving it straight through, and it was exhausting!Jeff Pidgeonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09480545918063778031noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37568007.post-47673222083599917992007-03-12T17:06:00.000-07:002007-03-12T17:06:00.000-07:00"The drive would've been a nightmare alone!"HEY! I..."The drive would've been a nightmare alone!"

HEY! I make that drive regularly now! As long as I stop for breaks (I get sleepy in the car), I can do it fairly well and clock in at just over 6 hours--it's the trip back HOME that kills me--regularly 8 or 9 hours, becuase I'm so tired, I have to keep stopping for naps :-(

As for the location of the Old Zoo? It's just down the road from the NEW Zoo! It's not in Glendale but, it's very NEAR Glendale!Anitahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01379812019432725685noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37568007.post-63378594015663566302007-03-09T22:43:00.000-08:002007-03-09T22:43:00.000-08:00It was a fun trip... we played baseball at the Fie...It was a fun trip... we played baseball at the Field of Dreams on the Fourth of July; saw Old Faithful go off under a full moon; experienced every possible weather combination from snow to rain to blistering heat over the course of one VERY weird day; chased prairie dogs at Devil's Tower; found the parking meter in Wagon Tire, Oregon; learned NEVER to eat at the Jerry's in Burns, Oregon; confirmed that Grippo's are still the best potato chip around, but some brand called Highland (? - can't remember exactly now) in Nebraska was quite close; is this hell? no, just Idaho...; broke even in Vegas; saw a UFO in New Mexico; discovered that Frank can rip the inside door handle off his own car if startled correctly; got a tour of the Babylon 5 sets; and swam in both the Pacific and Gulf of Mexico... and that's still not all... :)

I don't know if I'd ever have the free time for a trip like that again, what with convention commitments and film festivals taking up most of my vacation time these days - Robert's done it once since then with his wife & kids, so they could experience it... but I *really* recommend a trip like this for everybody, at least once, if you can manage it...John Hudgenshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11230329767854764705noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37568007.post-40434848996712188722007-03-09T17:08:00.000-08:002007-03-09T17:08:00.000-08:00I'm not sure I can describe where it is very well....I'm not sure I can describe where it is very well. There's this fairly big fountain in Glendale that's over by the 5 freeway - the old zoo site's near it.Jeff Pidgeonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09480545918063778031noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37568007.post-66452719223063739572007-03-09T16:58:00.000-08:002007-03-09T16:58:00.000-08:00Where exactly is the original site for the LA Zoo?...Where exactly is the original site for the LA Zoo???Skribblhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07985132183438922332noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37568007.post-79724177129589862032007-03-09T12:56:00.000-08:002007-03-09T12:56:00.000-08:00That does sound like fun!The problem I have is tha...That does sound like fun!

The problem I have is that I never have time for a road trip on a cool highway. I always wind up taking the boring, faster way so I can spend more time at my destination.

But it's true, I really appreciated Anita going with me. The drive would've been a nightmare alone!Jeff Pidgeonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09480545918063778031noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37568007.post-64036083408112926532007-03-09T08:41:00.000-08:002007-03-09T08:41:00.000-08:00At least you had someone to share it with - I can'...At least you had someone to share it with - I can't get Heather to go on out-of-town trips lately, so some of my recent long hauls (Knoxville to Cleveland - 8 hours!) have been *looooong* solo trips... I've found that taking along a bunch of old radio shows really helps pass the miles...

However, I do have to say that one of the best trips I ever took was a cross-country road trip with three good friends back in 1993. We went from Knoxville to California and back over nearly three weeks, taking almost all US and state highways - no interstates!John Hudgenshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11230329767854764705noreply@blogger.com
