There's an elegant tablet on the boundary wall on the Mall featuring a cameo of the battleship dowager.

As for our transport gurus - to close both the Greenwich and Blackheath lines at the same time was just a real wizard idea on someone's part.

You know, here's one for the hunger folk ... there was a time when there was no such thing as weekend closures for engineering works. Not because the system was so squeaky new and clean but simply because maintenance of the lines went on all the time in the down hours, and not on the absurd ad hoc basis that is the norm these days.Latelygayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11489446489384100920noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3739003444076568330.post-38590481558807688292008-09-22T15:28:00.000+01:002008-09-22T15:28:00.000+01:00'friad I deserted Greenwich and south London and w...'friad I deserted Greenwich and south London and went all the way to Barkingside to the Dr.Barnado's site there - village, statue, etc etc. What was really interesting was the 'children's church' which is part of the site. There were various old banners hanging round the walls - two of them were from the 'Blackheath Young Helpers League' - one for the 'Jubilee' and one from the 1880s. Does anyone know anything about these? Is this 'our' Blackheath? - or what?Edithnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3739003444076568330.post-22262659634651769742008-09-22T13:16:00.000+01:002008-09-22T13:16:00.000+01:00We managed Trinity Buoy Wharf using the bus and fr...We managed Trinity Buoy Wharf using the bus and free ferry, back via a totally overcrowded DLR. But Sunday's free-cycle from the Tower, along the embankment, Traf square, the mall etc to the Serpentine was brilliant. Lots of families with little ones on bikes having a great day on the car free roads. Was a bit difficult getting the bikes onto the train home to New Cross though...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3739003444076568330.post-91564068476127435822008-09-22T13:12:00.000+01:002008-09-22T13:12:00.000+01:00I used the DLR and boat on Saturday - the transpor...I used the DLR and boat on Saturday - the transport didn't grind completely to a halt... At least Trinity Hospital was easy to get to, and I made the delightful trip to Trinity Buoy Wharf for their 10-year celebrations - art, jazz, boat races and beautiful sunshine, so that put me in a much better mood. I think we should commandeer it for Greenwich.Donovannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3739003444076568330.post-85160889354960894502008-09-22T12:16:00.000+01:002008-09-22T12:16:00.000+01:00Of course that should have said "why COULDN'T thes...Of course that should have said "why COULDN'T these two companies talk to each other...."The Greenwich Phantomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11446976345540500544noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3739003444076568330.post-19295288068586500762008-09-22T12:15:00.000+01:002008-09-22T12:15:00.000+01:00I found it staggering that they hadn't worked out ...I found it staggering that they hadn't worked out that shutting both the overground AND the Jubilee line was going to scupper huge amounts of people.

I realise work has to be done - but on the same day?
