The checkout lady asked if I was eating it that day and when I said the next day she said she would change it as its eat-by date was the same day. I said it was just at the right level of ripeness for me but it was quite a struggle to persuade her to let me buy it, rather than some rock-hard one from the shelves.
Clearly M&S is very picky about how we should eat our avacodos!
Then there is the 2-for-the-price-of-one fiasco which drives me mad - or at least keeps me shopping mostly at the greengrocers up the road.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3739003444076568330.post-27573674626307622202008-07-10T01:26:00.000+01:002008-07-10T01:26:00.000+01:00I don't agree with Lewisham market being a good pl...I don't agree with Lewisham market being a good place for veggies and fruits. I shop there and 30% of the times I buy something I end up throwing it away. They sell a lot of rotten produce, or bruised ones on the verge of becoming rotten and there's pretty much no way of telling, as there's a lot of people and everything is so quick. And the sellers aren't that nice, they tell you off for making a little mess when you touch the produce.

I'm thinking of exploring deptford market from now on.Allanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3739003444076568330.post-91484670725602395182008-07-09T15:59:00.000+01:002008-07-09T15:59:00.000+01:00Come to Deptford. We have avocados at whatever stage of ripeness you require, and they are all for sale!Deptford Damehttp://deptforddame.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3739003444076568330.post-13251888730113453482008-07-08T11:15:00.000+01:002008-07-08T11:15:00.000+01:00If people have the time go to a market e,g Lewisha...If people have the time go to a market e,g Lewisham, you will find that everything you buy will be a fraction of the price of M&S and you will get 5 times as much. Also most things are ripe, (in M&S fruit is thrown away even if perfect but past the sell by date), so you eat them on the same or next day and one other thing is that you are allowed to touch the fruit and veg. Also it is colourful and lively and with the money you save you can go to Gennaros delicatessen and treat yourself to something delicious.

AngieAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3739003444076568330.post-54421439900569515172008-07-08T09:28:00.000+01:002008-07-08T09:28:00.000+01:00I was refused Yorkshire Puddings at the till in M&...I was refused Yorkshire Puddings at the till in M&S Greenwich on Sunday - no explanation as to why, just "we can't sell these". They were not past their sell-by / use-by date and surely can't have been 'not ripe enough yet!' I made my own instead - they were much nicer!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
